    All very interesting and the usage / payment / contract etc is a bit of a minefield especially deciding how much payment and how the images will be used. I've had to negotiate fees and contract / usage and it leaves you in a spot of not wanting to lose the prestige of the published work but also be treated fairly. I liked the more reflective Bob looking out the window but I suspect he prefers to maintain the upbeat joker image. Another thing is the images being altered / cut-out / tinted etc is this generally tolerated with submitted images.

    Lovely! Great picture (a book I have), and good advice about usage. You did well to get any extra payment out of the publisher. I was wondering if, when selling an image for a book cover or album cover if you can arrange a speculative contract based on sales - the equivalent of a royalty payment - that would counter any need to chance your arm (in this case successfully) by retroactively going back to the client for more dosh? Also, did you get a picture credit when they published the paperback or on subsequent reprints?

  • @iNerdier
    @iNerdier 4 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Holy cow, they paid the extra 2k? I'm really surprised they didn't just tell you to get lost. Is it not something you would stipulate a % and a named credit in or am I being hopelessly naïve to think so?

    • @fredandharryborden

    Gone Fishing probably saved a lot of people's sanity with its kind-hearted banter. I started as a photographer but retrained as a lawyer. I approve of the way you handled the fee for the book cover. Being reasonable beats litigation every time; that's why they paid you extra. If you had sued them, they would have refused and you would have had three years of grief with your solicitors.

    Hi Harry and Fred (as it will be from now on and should always of been). When you spoke about the lighting creating a sinister effect on Mogg. I couldn't help thinking of, Arnold Newman's, portrait of, Alfred Krupp, in a factory doing the same, although he did it deliberately after initially refusing the assignment. Are there or have there been people you wouldn't photograph (no names needed) for moral or ethical reasons? Have a good start to the week.

    Of course a scanned negative or slide film picture is just a digital picture. And on any digital picture you can change any pixel. But: To edit a picture taken with a digital camera so is it 100% like taken on film is not only extremely time consuming, it is next to impossible. And therefore it is not only neither cheaper nor time efficient to mimick a film look with digital -- you simply don't get the same results. Even Fujifilm, who should know their film stock best, cannot really manage to give us the look of their silde films in their digital camaeras. But on the other hand people seem to have gotten used to the clinical, sterile look of digital pictures. Therefore film photography will always be something special, like a real piano over a digital one.

And, like you, he was an outsider who came to London which gives photographers and other creators a certain mindset, determination, and belief in themselves. Would make a make a wonderful diptych next to the picture of you, in a blue top against a grey background with an injured leg, we saw saw in this video. Your idea is a good conduit for people to talk about their images or others images they have in their home. liked the colour images with burnt paint backdrop. Funnily enough it was one of the things our college tutor, who worked with Harry in IPG, mentioned-his uncanny ability to find great backdrops. I always liked the b+w Blur image with the pole dividing it. Much harder to manage group dynamics than with an individual. Has Harry ever had a shoot where a celeb walked off after two frames or something, or maybe refused completely to be photographed? Keep em comin' as always, cheers from Ireland.
