My cousin is a tour bus driver and knows a few people in the industry, including someone in Diddy’s crew (I think bodyguard). One day he was talking to the guy and Diddy FaceTimed him and my cousin got to say hey. After the call was done my cousin asked if his daughter, who’s a really good singer, could potentially meet Diddy so she could get her career started. The guy turned to him and with all the seriousness in the world said to never let his daughter near any man in the music industry, especially not Diddy. He took that advice
I’m a full time musician, and the abuse that crew members face today is still quite significant. I’ve been mistreated by many big artists because I was a worker.
@@lesteryaytrippy7282 it’s all power and exerting it. I’ve met some musicians in their early 20’s, signed to a major label, and with a fanbase that are completely detached from reality and exercise abuse to flex their power because of their insecurities *cough* Carson from the Callous Daoboys *cough*. I hope that a lot will change soon in the near future.
This happens in a lot of places. I had a friend that was a male model and he would take me to a lot of parties as his girlfriend. Some parties he would not take me and the reason he gave me was “There are people coming to this party that I won’t be able to protect you if they decide they want you.”
@rlizabethcastillo5541 man why does the male model work in that type of evil model industry. and why your friend is friends with him. they both know that the industry is fucked up and you are his friend. at least the male model can make an effort to expose the industry or at the very least not work in it. so please tell this to your friends and the model friend of yours.
I was in college and stopped having any contact with my friend for obvious reason. This goes deeper than you think. Years later he contacted me right before he died in mysterious circumstances. All models are subjected to prostitution he explained. If they talk they don’t work in the industry or worse. These are very wealthy people that have a lot of power and is best keep away from them.

The way you set up your talking points on “how and why” diddy was able to do what he wanted instead of just focusing on “what” happened, is a technique my English teacher taught me lmao. Critical analysis goes beyond just description of what happened, it goes into answering questions how, why, to what extent. Amazing video
Exactly shows how messed up society is, capitalistic mindset, ok with steeping on each as long as someone’s cleans up the mess behind them, this we’ll get all pinned on one man granted deserved but this took a multitude of people to do all this, from drugs, trafficking, and whatever else you can think of, they always use the figure heads like diddy who probably step out of line to much so they cut him loose
This video is on another level. 95% or more of other Diddy videos just are repeating the same thing over and over again, and it's only about what happened. This video however, more resembles a complete documentary and it's about the what and why. This takes a whole lot of research to make, and is much more informative and educational. My biggest respect to you sir, for making this documentary 👏
Not going to lie. I've been side eyeing Diddy ever since he made the band walk to get that cheesecake. I'm not even saying this to be funny, that was some bad energy.
growing up in miami in the 2000s/early 2010s my family and ppl in my neighborhood always told me stories about diddy since he frequently partied in the clubs out there and did a lot of business there so i always seen him as a weirdo from the shit i was told 😂
This was the perfect video to watch while I did my hair and make up for my 22nd birthday. THIS is the epitome of what TH-cam commentary/documentary should be, I learned so much. Thank you for the content !
Diddy had 4 rappers on Bad Boy so shook by what they saw, they all turned to all 3 Abrahamic religions. Mase/Craig Mack to Christianity, Loon to Islam, and Shyne to Judaism. Biggie dead, Black Rob dead, Kim Porter dead, Craig Mack also deceased. Diddler lore has been around in hip-hop forum spaces for 25yrs. But I'd also like for ppl do dig into Clive Davis and Arista and the music industry shennanigans as a whole.
As a former case worker, this video made me cry real bad. My soul will always be with survivors. Sending all my love to Cassie, Ms. Stephens, and the survivors whose names we do not know.
Your crying shows that you care so much and have a lot of empathy and understanding, which is beautiful and exactly what survivors need. But along with the tears remember to stay strong, bc survivors also need to be reminded that they ARE the strong and predators are the sad and broken. Thank you for all the people you’ve helped in your work. ❤️🩹💯
Superhead is a victim? The one who wrote a book and did the reality show circuit 15 years after said fame. BLAME MEN WOMEN CANT MAKE THEIR OWN DECISIONS 😂
This is the third video of yours I’ve watched. The fact that I’m watching these long videos until the end without getting bored is incredible. You’ve nailed how to deliver your content!
For people with children or who interact with younger people (your nephews/nieces, cousins, if you’re babysitting, mentoring, even if you know younger people on Internet forums, etc.), it’s really important to start teaching and protecting them when they’re young, now. Sometimes, the only light you can provide them before they go do their thing or reach adulthood is knowledge of how to keep themselves safe when you can’t be there. This includes telling guys it’s okay to tell someone they’re uncomfortable instead of needing to “man up” and telling girls it’s okay to fight back and give them hell instead of just “grin and bear it”. Bc this world is not going to have mercy on them.
Hijacking this top comment bc this dude just "muh capitalism bad" over and over while co.pletely ifnoring any good it has done and refusing to admit the alternatives are all even worse. Cringe video.
Been subbed for more than a year but this is my favorite video yet. I have seen celebrity character takedowns on TH-cam before but this one focuses more on the industry. When F.D Signifier talks about movies instead of music he seems out of his depth but he can really bring it with videos like this.
Crazy how he makes an almost 2 hour long video about the industry without calling out the biggest exploiters the record label owners. I think we all know very well that these people don’t call themselves white.. they’re j-wish, zi-nists or both. Why do you paint it as if white people are still exploiting black people? This is exactly how they play white and black against eachother, why don’t call them what these people are? Because if he did his video wouldn’t have this much traction and it probably wouldn’t even be up any more.
This is coming from someone who barely listens to rap and barely knows about it, but like..."Every breath you take" is about a stalker. And Diddy having been in every single interview with BIG, monitoring his every move and BIG mysteriously dying right when he wanted to leave Diddy, only for Diddy to present that "tribute"...I wanna scream.
@@nothingposted9056 Sting's intention: The song's writer, Sting, has stated that he was thinking about the concept of "Big Brother" when writing the lyrics, implying a sense of pervasive observation and control. Quoted from Google
Too white and nerdy to have observed this stuff despite being old enough to take note from the late 90s. First thing that made me squint at Diddy was finding out he was withholding earnings from BIG's mother. You made a fortune off him. He's an icon. He died young. He was your friend. Take care of his mother. (I don't know if she was overreaching but everything I know about record labels made me automatically assume she was right)
I mean Diddy is a billionaire so... You don't amass that much wealth without taking from several individuals, and Biggie was the biggest profit source of them all.
Don’t belittle white people cuz you couldn’t see someone for who they were. I was 8 years old when i first listened to Diddys music and thought it was weird that he was famous cuz he sucked at rapping, then as i grew older i saw him exploiting the fuck out of biggies death. Heard about the shooting with J Lo as a kid too and thought that was shady af. And im from a mostly white suburb in Illinois

Went to high school with a girl whose dad was a bodyguard for Diddy. Pretty much said that if Diddy didn't want his crimes to be seen, he literally kept people away from certain situations. Made sure there were no witnesses that he didn't have power over. Smh, fucking real life super villain.
Apparently Diddy had like hundreds of bodyguards cause this comment section is filled with these claims. Diddy guilty, but ya'll didnt know any of his bodyguards either.
@uriustosh I didn't say I know one of his bodyguard personally, I went to high-school with his daughter. I have no reason lie about this. Just sharing because rumors of his crazy parties and his shady ways have been consistent from stuff you'd hear on the radio to the regular people around him. It's not really about knowing Diddy was always like this but the confirmation that not only are the rumors true but it's worse than ever really imagined. I'm not super deep into celeb culture outside of the music, so for me it went from, "Seems like Diddy is a shady business man who takes advantage of the people around him" to, "Oh wow. He's committed legitimate, serious crimes and abuse to so many people."
I've heard what you are talking about at 1:23:12 described as "homosociality" that men are looking to attract the admiration and respect of other men, and that is often used by dating women that they know *other men* in their circle desire but not necessarily who they are genuinely attracted to. And yeah you see this communities of all sizes and levels of power. It's the common trope that the popular group in any highschool are really incestuous, but it's also the alternative punks who all end up dating the same girl and girls who fit a very specific category. Great video!
Could this also be why Onlyfans/webcam girls gets popular? That the men aren't there for the girls per say, but rather compete for the girl, trying to be the one who pays the most, to earn the respect of the other men?
I knew there had to be a term for this but never knew the actual term, thank you! This is something as well that we can see was very big with Leo DeCaprio and his habit of leaving his partners for younger women when they hit a certain age. While it is undoubtedly sexist and gross in nature, it definitely came off like his decision stems equally if not more from the approval of other men than thinking women have an expiration date - to be blunt, being able to continue to pull younger and younger women even as you yourself age is seen as a major sign of a strong social status among men, especially the wealthy elite ones. Leo already being known for his looks and charm continuing to be able to have incredibly young women by his side whenever hed like is a major status symbol for him that also reflects a sense of power in a way - even with his age, hes still just as influential as when he was younger, and his age has not affected the status of his looks. Its also almost the same exact thing the song Little Girls by Oingo Boingo is about - older, wealthy men continuing to pine after younger and younger women as they age for the status they get, just with the hidden twist of how often the “younger an younger women” they end up being caught with are children
This is so funny cuz I didn't get to get around to this vid until now and I was thinking as I opened yt "oh FD just dropped an album, I gotta check that out....... wait, album??"
Biggie saying that Diddy was like Jesus to him is a wild thing to say…even three decades later. It’s sad how many people Diddy manipulated and took advantage of during his time in the spot light.
I agree. What was disturbing was how Diddy did not instantly react to such blasphemy - he said he believes in God, yet there was nothing but arrogance in his reaction. He didn't correct him. He probably agreed with Biggie! That's how breathtaking his ego is.
I wasn't looking for anything about P Diddy and that image caught my eye as I was scrolling through the tube. I clicked on it, opened another tab to look for something I might be more interested in. Last night a cold Friday night, I came back to it to give watching it a shot. Then I looked at the length of the documentary. I thought to myself, "2 hours?!!? Fine. I'll give it 5 & split,". Well, absolutely fascinating. And frankly, I don't listen to hip Hop at all. It's perfectly clear how much knowledge you have and how you put it together with others, images, videos, was a true pleasure to watch. Your work is top notch!
I actually think Weinstein is a great comparison point. His crimes were actually really well known, similar to Diddy, and gossiped about in the industry pretty much the entire time he had power. But the industry ignored it because he was great at distributing low cost movies from lower valued foreign markets and the indie scene to high profit. Similar to Diddy, he used his position of power to leverage attractive people in his industry into sexual roles that included parties he threw for industry players to gain further influence and control. The difference is the whole sex and cocaine parties part of Weinstein's story was largely swept under the rug after initial reports and the focus in prosecution solely became his crimes. Whereas with Diddy, I think it's notable that there's been a witch hunt to figure out who was involved in his parties and what did they do. But there was an entire sector of film that would have never hit the mainstream without Weinstein making the deals behind the scenes and identifying the movies that would actually sell to the public. Which is a lot like Sean Combs to me. And similar to Combs, Weinstein only got busted when he stopped making money for people and started costing them money.
Oh! The song (Every Breath You Take) probably made you feel icky because it was about Sting's...... either the fact of or his fear of his ex-wife stalking him. He said in an interview once that it felt weird to him for people to keep using it as a wedding song lol
@lesteryaytrippy7282 I grew up listening to his music A LOT lol my mom had been a fan of The Police before I was born and when I was a baby, and she kept up with his solo work after The Police broke up (and I myself am also a fan lol,) I'm pretty sure she had the album that the original song was on (which was a Police album.) Fun fact, the bass (wait, I think it's a giant bass...... I'm not great with stringed instrument identification...... it's like the size of a cello but he's playing it with his hands) squeaks were originally going to be edited out (as was/is common practice,) but the song sounded weirdly flat without them so they left them in :)
You inspire me so much, I want to be able to communicate like you someday. Thank you for the video you made about the video essay format. I’ve been sending your work to all my friends. This video just showed me another path to what I aspire to accomplish during my life, and I truly appreciate you for your role in that.
That’s amazing. You’re very special too. Your path is yours only and you will do wonderful things. Keep your head up no matter how hard it gets. Enjoy when things are great and live in the moment. Thank you for showing much appreciation and support to creators who deserve it.
I totally get the inspiration. Legit the first video I watched of his, I said out loud: "damn, this guy talks like how I think but he does it so much better."
I don't think casual listeners really knew how bad it was. The other thing is that when you are enveloped in the world of poverty you are so accustomed to exploitation that most of it seems normal. I didn't know about Diddy's behavior before the lawsuit, but I believed her immediately. I'm not bragging and that isn't a flex. It scares me when I actually think about it because I have to actually deal with the fact that women are never going to be safe. All of those people were watching him abuse countless women and none of them cared until they got sued or their reputation was tarnished. Jay-Z literally didn't say a damn thing until now and we all know that at best he knew and didn't care. Women won't be free until people actually see us as people and that isn't going to happen any time soon.
In Diddy's case, it's more a class issue than a gender issue: man or woman, you were not safe around him if he had power over you. He had a lot of connections, police wouldn't do anything about him. Everyone in the industry looked at the other because he was extremely rich, well connected, and extremely violent when things didn't go his way.
There was a huge blind spot, that carried over from the rock band scene to all popular music, concerning groupies, which were basically the extreme of the objectification of women as sexual gratification aids. This obviously often led to the debasement of relations and treatment from man-to-woman within the industry ecosystem
It's not that people just turned a blind eye or that he didn't do it alone. He was real life a very scary person. People were genuinely afraid of him. And any time things didn't go his way or he didn't get what he wanted, you felt his wrath. There was no way anybody could fight that man. Not with the access and resources he had..
This is something I have been thinking about. Puff is just a tool that is no longer useful. He got too comfortable. There are definitely people above him that facilitate these things through out these different industries.
The wildest thing was, Hulu were making a documentary series on Diddy literally 12 months ago. Diddy wanted it to be the next "Meet the Kardashians", but production halted as soon as the first allegations came out end of November 2023. How do i know this? Someone i know very well was an editor for one of the episodes. Hulu had sunk well over a million into the project, including taking the Diddy family on a private boat holiday in the Carribbean.
Watch Drugs as a Weapon Against Us and The Beast of Jekyll Island… Music is just one of many industries that are being exploited amongst the masses, not limited to the food industry, pharmaceutical industry, clothing industry, television and film , construction, automotive, scientific, education, etc etc… If you leave out the testimony of Erika Musaka or Gabriel Estavao then you are not even close to understand how those documentaries hold the key to understanding the thesis of this one!
I hope against hope that they restart the production & recontextualize the series around what has become of him. It would be the funniest thing ever...
With all the Diddy stuff it reminds me of Denzel Washington being asked about going to hollywood parties, to paraphrase "I always leave before the devil shows up"
If he (or anyone with a normal moral compass) knows what's going on why don't they expose them? Can't they hire someone to investigate while remaining anonymous themselves? Or face the heat and put on a spy cam and just lay it all out.
@@DUNC8888people tried bro, people been saying it but i guess either nobody believed it or he had the money to hush it up. Why do you think so many people said they wouldnt go to his parties? They knew what was up
Content like this for free just proves even more why many of these streaming services are dying. I keep my Nebula for creators like this. HBO & Netflix take fkn notes.
Before you get too excited streaming services can be LEGALLY held accountable for spreading misinformation. With random youtubers it basically never happens. Anyone, youtuber or streaming platform, should have accountability for telling the truth only. TH-cam is full of witch doctors and fake gurus, TH-cam is still mostly garbage.
I’m genuinely surprised that Netflix hasnt caught onto the TH-camr wave by now. It’s been going on for years! If they start hosting vlogs and deep dives, video essays, etc they would make sooo much money. I prefer the creator-owned sites, but just from a business standpoint I’m shocked no tv streaming platform has done this yet
There ya go! This is a much bigger problem in this society, it extends across government, business, entertainment, and sports. This is the conversation that needs to be had.

I feel like we need to bring back something like Behind the Music for Gen z. I don't know if it's the death of celebrity culture or its social media but I feel like people have forgotten that the music industry is maybe one of the most exploitative industries especially for black people despite the massive amounts of wealth that you can achieve. Like we need artists to have a socially acceptable venue for them to talk about getting screwed over on these contracts.
Gen z knows that musicians get exploited, a lot of people just don't care lol. They use it as part of their "stan" wars, laughing at people in 360 deals and such
I think people know about it now more than ever with social media, they just let themselves be distracted by omg kendrick called our drakes lovechild and omg did you see the new bts member dance and omg i hate ariana grande she licked a donut
JRE has had people on ( though it has been a few years) demonstrating this very topic. If you care about someone, you don't let them go into the music industry.
Yea I think they know but o ly thru the lens of memes and stan culture. there needs to be more awareness of investigative journalism and analysis surrounding the toxic industry in depth beyond just tweets or short form content
You make incredible content. You go beyond a conspiracy theory and allegations. I’ve never given money to a content creator before but humbly feel you deserve to be compensated for your work. I didn't know Diddy make "I'll be missing you", but the fact that the og song it's sampling is about a stalker who is possessive over a person that people mistake as romantic is sadly fitting for his character in hindsight
I honestly JUST put that together as I was watching the video and was like "oh DAMN" you know damn well Diddy did that ish intentionally. Without a doubt.
surprised FD didn’t dive a bit deeper into the catholic school Diddy attended & the 2 priests that were there for 12 years before they got arrested for child sex crimes a year after diddy graduated . seems he was taught the ropes young
Yep! Diddy served as an altar boy at Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx which is notorious for harbouring predators. He graduated in 87. The acting Principal archdiocese and Marist Brother were arrested, charged and sentenced in 88 SA but from what I read, the Catholic church continues to protect them. I don't even think they did real prison time.
probably not taught the ropes, but the mindset from them. youth in these hyper fundamentalist communities tend to be fed very convenient narratives about “jezebels” being “truly responsible” from community leaders.
I know Kim Hill, formerly of the Black Eyed Peas. I am no saying we are friends; I used to work with her sister-n-law and her brother used to invite me to speak at his church about education about 11 years ago. After I spoke, Kim said she was inspired to speak on the music industry. She started by saying, "A lot of people talk ask me how to get their children into the music industry," then went on to explain why she would not. She explained why she had to pull back from the music industry - and he reasons why it was hard for her to get opportunities in music. She wasn't selling out - she was not going to be hypersexual - and she was not going to be part of those things she saw going on in the industry. She talked about the things that went on behind the scenes.
I think a discussion about sexual abuse, pedophilia and 🍇 is necessary. The current events expose a widespread problem in this country. R Kelly,P Diddy and Bill Cosby is the tip of iceberg. I feel that this goes on in every community, race, socioeconomic level, profession, sexuality etc.
God, All About the Benjamins was basically playing 24/7 in the neighborhood. You could stick your head out the window and hear it at different distances depending on the hour of the day.
The way you've worded it as 'different distances depending on the hour of day' is messing with my head. Like we're talking about counting the delay between a lightning strike and thunder clap to measure distance. Did it basically track the sunset or something?
@@frankcooke1692 hilarious response but for real what I think OP is referring to is the daily schedules of people - back and forth for work and school. Weekends at night coming out of houses and clubs, and daytime driving up and down the streets.

Cassie saw Kim get abused. She was the side chick. Kim was the side chick to Misa. She was Misa get abused. They knew what they were getting themselves into.
@@charissa6648 It’s not my quote, according to the video it’s from Bell Hooks I think. I thought the same thing at first until I thought deeper because of Cassie as he pointed out. It’s not meant to be taken literally. It’s about the people who enforce the patriarchy unknowingly or because they’re being controlled. It’s kind of like a mirror of the theme of the video. Men/Diddy can be a focal point but there’s more to the problem.
I remember hiding to watch BET UNCUT! As a journalist, thank you for the time you take to unpack this heavy topic and provide a different, deeper view of the truth around us.
FD, thank you so much for the caring, nuanced, thoughtful takes you have on topics like this. As an SA survivor, I rarely find creators in the mainstream media or otherwise who treat these horrible situations with the care you do. It really does mean a lot.

I think he was more involved in production than Khaled is. It sounds like it was pretty common for him to pick the records he wanted to sample, and he was good at curating a sound/vibe for albums. A lot of Khaled’s albums just sound like compilations of random songs. Diddy is definitely overrated as a producer, because it was usually just The Hitmen actually making the beats (or Easy Mo Bee early on), but he had a good ear and knew how to play to an artist’s strengths. His name is all over Mary J Blige’s first two albums - you don’t ever see people soliciting help from Khaled.
I'm a 50yr old white dude, born in 74, my music tastes were pretty widespread in the 80s , 90s and to this day. This tutorial about hip-hop / rap and Diddy's history is explained absolutely incredible !! This kind of detailed journalism is bringing out some of the brightest talents of those lesser known in the field of history and judicial writing along with excellent TH-cam presentations !! Thanks for sharing your talents and bringing back some memories of what the rap scene was back then and what it's turned into !! Again- excellent work !
Bro even with almost a million subscribers, I still think you are massively underrated. Your content is top tier and one of the reasons I love platforms like TH-cam.
i understand that jokes are a normal response to trauma and serious things, but it never felt like people were making those jokes with any thought to the people he hurt, you know? like who is having diddy-themed parties why would you want to imitate a rapist?? (agreeing with you)
no because my entire friend group began joking about it and i mentioned i was like uncomfortable with it and was like hey isnt this like.. disturbing and a horrible thing to instantly make a joke out of?? then they acted like i was the crazy one for thinking and feeling that way. im not friends with those people anymore but it just felt weird being in the middle of it and seeing how desensitized people are to all of this. they, as in people in general, dont even think twice before making the jokes. its weird looking in comment sections now too. like are we forgetting the weight of the topic ur tossing around like a fun game of ball..?
Agreed. Last I checked, the majority are on Depp's side to this day post-Depp v Heard and that's their prerogative (I believe Amber personally) & even though people aren't defending Diddy the same way they did Depp, I can't be the only one seeing disturbing, disheartening parallels with the memes and jokes about a r*pe/IPV case....right?? I also find it kind of odd that those same people want Diddy's trial televised too, especially since Cassie herself has spoken about being hurt by the jokes I mentioned above (not to mention the alleged survivors who wanted to stay anonymous but had to identify themselves to move forward). Idk, sorry for the stream of consciousness but I'm just praying history doesn't keep repeating itself, and that Cassie's bravery bringing about this domino effect will also lead to a better understanding of why victims/survivors don't 'JuSt LeAvE' etc 🙏

Its vulnerable, raw, and tells you the good, bad, and ugly of such an industry and as someone who did do Adult work for awhile to make money to feed me and my minor brother, Elizabeth (Karrine) really opened my eyes and made me reflect on so much
you didnt read the book and it shows. The book was a testomy and she literally said in the book that its meant for those women who are looking into entering that industry to think twice and at most be careful if doing so. She literally expressed the horrors of being within that space and how detrimental it can be. It was so much more than who she slept with, FD literally stated this in the video Maybe if you picked up the book, asusming if you ever do pick up books, you wouldnt sum it up as "groupie nonsense", so you can hop out my comments now, with your negative ahh ❤ And also, domt put words in people mouths, its not cute and i like to curse people out who do @@Ekleaz
Intelexual Media has a great video about video vixens and that book. I hadn't heard of the book before, so it was very interesting (and depressing) to learn what an impact it had.
45:43 in case anyone else couldn’t hear Lil Kim’s line F.D is referencing here: “Wanna bumble with the bee, huh?/ Bzz, throw a hex on the whole family”
Not only was it rapping over already successful old school jams, but a lot of the younger population buying up those sample based rap songs at the time had no idea those were old school jam samples, and actually believed those jams were created by the rappers themselves. As someone who grew up loving music in the 70s and 80s, that's what broke my heart the most.
Another great video! One thing about sexual liberation that sometimes seems to be forgotten is that it hasn’t happened yet. As long as women are seen as lesser when they are openly sexual it’s still a struggle for it, not a victory lap. There has been a shift in perspective to an extent but let’s not pretend that (religious) conservatism and the same abusive practices as ever in adult entertainment aren’t a thing. (This isn’t meant as a „correction“ of the video, just my thoughts on the issue. I’m sure that Fiq knows a whole lot more than me.)
I think a lot of what they thought was sexual liberation back in the 60s and 70s WAS liberation from old fashioned religious prudish morality. But, it actually was opening up a different kind of over sexualised oppression.
I think it needed a separate video for many reasons. One, the kind of credit card swiping "disrespect" was not as big a part of NY hip hop music. Perhaps bc mob image was so big in NY hip hop, rappers were far more money, power, respect than pimps and hos. Run down the list of NY rappers it's hard to find one focused on explicitly sexual lyrics. So I found myself wondering how we got to Nelly from Diddy, from art to reality
The only people who feel liberated have the privilege to enjoy the progress that's been made, and ironically privilege filters your voice to the top, so we don't really get to hear how it is for the majority unless we seek it actively, and even then it's a struggle.
I appreciate the well thought out format and learning about the history the music industry of hip-hop. It is good to see communities like yours break through the "glass ceiling". Heartfelt best wishes to all your positive endeavor and for making a difference in people's lives and their well-being.
I wrote a paper on this for school and was blown away with my teachers response..."it's just another example of celebrity taking advantage of someone because of their status." No dude, thats only the beginning if you paid attention even in the slightest...which is why I wrote the paper on it
That response suggests that teacher wasn’t mentally capable of coping with the subject matter, they were trying to dismiss some points and discuss others to hopefully distract you
Naah, it's happening from when civilisation arised. Now are influencers, some years ago was celebrities, then scientists, then priests, then kings, imperators etc... High class was and is exploiting everyone around just to feel powerful... So yeah, it's just another example of celebrity taking advantage of someone because of their status... Wake up
I just find it weird that these things only happen to powerful black men in America. But as far as I can tell, you guys have no problem with that.btw A white man accused of the same crimes can become president, but there is still not a single proven evidence against Diddy.🤔 But social media has made up its mind as always. I miss the times when there was no internet. This place is complete garbage.
In a way he was right I'm not sure what you put in the paper so there can be more to it. But it's not the first or last time. He's probably heard about these things since young. I think for older generations they feel like it's not something they can't control but have been hearing for years and years. New generations are more ready for change and fights to control their future.

Mase came to the church I was going to and talked about this and what goes on in the industry. Church wasn’t having it. People didn’t believe him. Some members were mad af. The irony.
That’s why organized religion is dangerous. Gather with friends and family to study the Bible….have a wise older man to help guide the teachings (grandpa or dad). Church has sadly become a place where people have become lovers of themselves instead of God. Very terrestrial (worldly)…now people are gossiping and competing for status instead of worshipping God.
@@jnnx Can we also talk about the fact that he made the whole track without Sting's permission? Sting got the royalties and they made things look nice for the public, but Sting was 1000% within his rights to crush Diddy with an army of lawyers.
For people arguing with the "oldest profession" comment, its important to remember that the notion of a profession requires an organized community in which people provide services for compensation (barter or currency). To have a community like this, you need a reliable food source and to have a reliable food source requires farming. There were almost definitely specific social roles people may have had before the agricultural revolution (midwife, sex worker, bodyguard) but until they do it for compensation it's not a profession. I would guess this is the basis of her argument
nice analysis, my biggest prob w FD is his oversimplification of issues and hence furthering polarization in a 2hr video essay the root cause to almost every problem is greed via financial and opportunity inequality power struggle is enabled by it
Extremely pedantic addition that there are some cultures in human history that have developed complex communities with what could be called professions without agriculture. Now mind you you still need that reliable food source so the alternative in these situations is aquaculture, though I guess you could call some of these people who cultivate clams or something clam farmers. Either way it's interesting that these things can happen with aquaculture at all, if anyone's curious about learning more about one of these aquaculture based cultures the indigenous people of the Pacific Northwest are a fascinating example where they had complex social structures of inequality (which is part of developing professions like this) with widespread slavery but with aquaculture not agriculture.
@@eugenelee533 from my understanding complex societal structures and societal inequality (which go hand in hand) arise when there is an excess of food, that is, there is more food being generated than can be eaten, this means that there's also more labour that can be generated than is needed which frees up time for other projects (such as large construction projects) as well as allowing that excess food and labour to be controlled by an elite class, hence the inequality. Based on my knowledge hunting is too time intensive compared to the food it generates to be able to create enough excess food for this and I've only heard of it happening from agriculture and aquaculture but humans and earth's environments are very diverse so it's possible it's happened somewhere but I've not heard of it.
@@eugenelee533not hunt, but some native american cultures instead of having full-on farms would nurture plants out in nature and go around collecting them. still agriculture but a bit different (not the best explanation)

In all honesty I was going to put this on the back burner as I wasn’t sure if I could handle two hours of hearing/watching another op-ed video about Sean Combs. Most of them are low-tier TMZ styled clickbait cash grabs. I’m glad I decided to give you a chance despite my initial hesitation. I used to be part of the club scene in the late 90s into early 2000s. I first started partying at 14 and by 16 I was hanging out with promoters, club owners, DJs, etc. I was extremely lucky that I had a lot of people looking out for me as if I was their little sister or daughter because goodness knows the amount of underage teens in VIP or guarded, enclosed areas was wild. I remember having VIP access at one large event (I used to help with sound and rented out equipment) and opened a small room to see one of the biggest promoters in our city sitting at a table, pants unzipped, and snorting a substance beside other underage teens, one of which went to my high school. They immediately freaked out and screamed for me to get lost. I said, “Gladly! Bye!” There’s plenty of other stories I could tell, but they’re all fairly similar. Atypical stories of people in power grooming and taking advantage of others for various means and using a wall of goons (from lawyers, personal security, family members, etc) as a means to continue their own Caligula-esque pleasure bubble. I honestly hope the victims get their due justice. I really am appalled that the statute of limitations protects so many perps, but that’s a whole other two hour subject in itself. Take care y’all. ✌🏼
I love how people dismiss stuff like pizzagate, illuminati, and qanon as wild conspiracy theories but yet stuff like what you described is actually happening and p.diddy / r. kelly antics are so common in the industry. Sure, there might not be cannibalism (that we know of), but there's clearly exploitation and noncery going on.
Never heard of your channel before today. Great video. I love your research and analysis. I'm a new fan and subscribed because of this video. Keep up the fantastic work. I'll binge your content now.
This one is so good. It really does zoom out way farther than just what Diddy was up to. It uses Diddy as a teaching vessel for a way of understanding the nuances of power and abuse.
Millennial black women and men were heavily influenced by the vixen era because we were coming of age and that era left an imprint that we’re still trying to overcome for healthy relationships today. As an older millennial woman of 38 I remember this era had me very insecure about my body and skin tone.
Same. I remember reading Confessions of a Video Vixen, recognizing that the women in music videos didn't look like me. We were definitely conditioned to accept certain ways of being
I feel like we’ve known forever that Diddy was bad news. I remember a friend of mine whose father knew Diddy personally, and all he said was “that man is a monster. A psychopath”
yeah its what makes all the people that came out of the woodwork to defend him so laughable/gross. im a white middle class suburban dumbass who happens to have had a longtime passing interest in hiphop, ive known diddy was a monster for a decade+, learned when i was a kid.

Yeah. The entertainment industry is a dark place with a lot of abusers. It's not pretty.

This happens in a lot of places. I had a friend that was a male model and he would take me to a lot of parties as his girlfriend. Some parties he would not take me and the reason he gave me was “There are people coming to this party that I won’t be able to protect you if they decide they want you.”
Holy shit, that’s a bone-chilling line

I was in college and stopped having any contact with my friend for obvious reason. This goes deeper than you think. Years later he contacted me right before he died in mysterious circumstances.

Thank you ❤Father. You want us to know how to pray 🙏. Are we up to it? Oh, we stretched!

Biggie seemed like he was on a substance in that video with the diddler.
why are we assuming Biggie had no idea what kind of person Sean Combs is/was???
If you guys think J.Lo knew, then Biggie knew too.
“Training a younger generation to behave in a certain manner” The most insightful and important that I myself have been saying not as eloquently.
The misogynistic behavior was at an all time and the struggle for respect was real a a darker skinned sista especially.
You are taking a simple statement as a mantra.

😂 yeah for real I was little when these songs keep having reruns in the 2000s. It wasn't when I looked up the lyrics that it revealed how creepy it is
That's like people using Billy Idol's White Wedding to get married. Like...did you hear the lyrics at all?
And that song was used for a diddy song called I’ll be missing you. Ooofffff.
@lesteryaytrippy7282 I grew up listening to his music A LOT lol my mom had been a fan of The Police before I was born and when I was a baby, and she kept up with his solo work after The Police broke up (and I myself am also a fan lol,) I'm pretty sure she had the album that the original song was on (which was a Police album.)
Fun fact, the bass (wait, I think it's a giant bass...... I'm not great with stringed instrument identification...... it's like the size of a cello but he's playing it with his hands) squeaks were originally going to be edited out (as was/is common practice,) but the song sounded weirdly flat without them so they left them in :)

You said it sis.
Yeah for real. Now Jay-Z is front and center in this, which is long overdue in my opinion
This obviously often led to the debasement of relations and treatment from man-to-woman within the industry ecosystem
i agree with your overall comment until the last piece. women will be free and idgaf if they “don’t see as people” we are and we will make them see.
THANK YOU. I hate how narrow the coverage is on this because one man didn’t accomplish such evil alone.
Diddy pissed off some powerful people. If he had stayed in pocket, he would have ridden off into the sunset
And the black man is never Really in charge..........
Never believed he accomplished this on his own but took it further and further.
Doesn’t surprise me in the least. I’m glad Hulu lost all that money
Watch Drugs as a Weapon Against Us and The Beast of Jekyll Island… Music is just one of many industries that are being exploited amongst the masses, not limited to the food industry, pharmaceutical industry, clothing industry, television and film , construction, automotive, scientific, education, etc etc…
If you leave out the testimony of Erika Musaka or Gabriel Estavao then you are not even close to understand how those documentaries hold the key to understanding the thesis of this one!
Yikes.
I hope against hope that they restart the production & recontextualize the series around what has become of him. It would be the funniest thing ever...

You just summed up my philosophy on the current media landscape in 3 sentences
Before you get too excited streaming services can be LEGALLY held accountable for spreading misinformation. With random youtubers it basically never happens.
Anyone, youtuber or streaming platform, should have accountability for telling the truth only. TH-cam is full of witch doctors and fake gurus, TH-cam is still mostly garbage.
It's the ads. These youtube ads are the reason streaming will never die.
How come you don't get a membership if you keep nebula? Members get their comments posted at the top of the thread with stars.

I don't know if it's the death of celebrity culture or its social media but I feel like people have forgotten that the music industry is maybe one of the most exploitative industries especially for black people despite the massive amounts of wealth that you can achieve. Like we need artists to have a socially acceptable venue for them to talk about getting screwed over on these contracts.

oh WOW
That’s a good point
That explains a lot.
probably not taught the ropes, but the mindset from them. youth in these hyper fundamentalist communities tend to be fed very convenient narratives about “jezebels” being “truly responsible” from community leaders.

Crazy how he makes an almost 2 hour long video about the industry without calling out the biggest exploiters the record label owners. I think we all know very well that these people don’t call themselves white.. they’re j-wish, zi-nists or both. Why do you paint it as if white people are still exploiting black people? This is exactly how they play white and black against eachother, why don’t call them what these people are? love the DJ Khaled comparison making him seem like a kinder figure for sparing us from his solo tracks
Fr tho. I always thought of them both as the worst kind of cancerous, talentless hacks the music industry has ever spawned.

The only people who feel liberated have the privilege to enjoy the progress that's been made, and ironically privilege filters your voice to the top, so we don't really get to hear how it is for the majority unless we seek it actively, and even then it's a struggle.
great comment.

High class was and is exploiting everyone around just to feel powerful... So yeah, it's just another example of celebrity taking advantage of someone because of their status... Wake up
I just find it weird that these things only happen to powerful black men in America. But as far as I can tell, you guys have no problem with that.btw A white man accused of the same crimes can become president, but there is still not a single proven evidence against Diddy.🤔
But social media has made up its mind as always.
New generations are more ready for change and fights to control their future.
keep up the good work brodie! i been watching ur videos and yu are lowkey sayin what i have been thinking for years but never had the words or information to articulate. you are doing god’s work w these 🙏 just make sure u dont get a big head and keep keeping it real

@@greattribulation3759organized religion is on the same exploitative shift so…
your storytelling, tone of voice, pace, language all on point!! thanks
Sampling Every Breath You Take is especially fitting because that song is creepy as hell when you listen closer
It’s also incredibly lazy, and disrespectful to any producer who does proper flips.
@@jnnx Can we also talk about the fact that he made the whole track without Sting's permission?
Sting got the royalties and they made things look nice for the public, but Sting was 1000% within his rights to crush Diddy with an army of lawyers.
yeah lots of people don’t realize it actually is a song about stalking
@@eden822it’s not creepy, one of my favourite songs
@@douBBle0306 i mean, it’s a great song, but Sting has literally said Every Breath You Take is about stalking
I would guess this is the basis of her argument
nice analysis, my biggest prob w FD is his oversimplification of issues and hence furthering polarization in a 2hr video essay
the root cause to almost every problem is greed via financial and opportunity inequality
power struggle is enabled by it
Extremely pedantic addition that there are some cultures in human history that have developed complex communities with what could be called professions without agriculture.
@@dayalasingh5853can a community hunt for food instead of employing agriculture or aquaculture?
Production value is crazy, thank you FDS!

F.D. strategically bringing up Snoop and Pharrell whenever possible when their names are plastered all over the guest list in the court proceedings is diabolical work
Snoop himself has been cool with Diddy since at least 99/2000. Yet I dont see anyone going after him, like they're going after Jay.
Kinda explains why Pharrell wants to make a kids movie to look better...just sayin'.
Diddy was a guest performer as a friend of Pharrell at Pharrell’s festival here in VA.
@@eyecontrol4900Jay is more independent and more of a threat to be controlled or taken out. By way of Roc Nation, Beyoncé, and his partnership with the NFL. Snoop gets a lot of endorsements but he doesn’t own things to the level that Jay does.
You also gotta ask which of these people stay friendly with him just so they don't have him as an enemy.
What I like about your channel is the full-on University Thesis level analysis of the time and the culture, and not just the headlines. You are the only dude making 2-3 hour long videos which leave me wanting more every time. Nobody else on this platform is able to do that for me. Thank you.
I come for your deep cut analysis... i stay for the way you phrase things and the way you expose things.

7:25 not only did that rapper go to jail but got deported and never really made it again in music.
Shyne is the son of the former Prime Minister of Belize and is currently the leader of one of the two political parties
Shyne has a documentary on Hulu. It's interesting and well made.
Shyne was busting in the club too though
U don’t know who Shyne is???
Wait don’t sleep on godfather burried alive. I bought it on cd
Bye!”
There’s plenty of other stories I could tell, but they’re all fairly similar.
Agreed! His video on puff is by far my fav.

Insecurities are not from other women (vixens) they solely are from you.
Those glassy eyes 😖
yeah its what makes all the people that came out of the woodwork to defend him so laughable/gross. im a white middle class suburban dumbass who happens to have had a longtime passing interest in hiphop, ive known diddy was a monster for a decade+, learned when i was a kid.
