- If your car is making a clicking noise when you're turning and accelerating, the common cause is a CV joint. This video has great examples of a CV joint making a clicking noise when turning.

This is my exact issue on my 2008 Chevrolet Impala!
I literally had Belle Tire replace these parts on the passenger side that they said was worse than the driver side and the cracking coming from the passenger side was still there!
I'm going to do some testing to make sure that either the driver side now needs to be replaced as I was originally told, or if the passenger side is still bad after the $700 repair I paid for!
I now have a plan to have my CV Axle and Tie Rods redone at a completely different mechanic and Belle Tire has permanently lost my business!
Thank you for posting this video!!!!!

You're welcome 😊
Hey everyone! I have an update!
The cracking on the passenger side of my 2008 Chevrolet Impala came from me improperly torquing the bolts on the body support bar above the battery! My battery was so hard to remove that I took that bar off to replace my battery when it failed and I failed to torque the bolts properly when I reinstalled the body support bar which caused additional stress on the car body on the front passenger side!
I guesstimated the torque using a 3/8 ratcheting socket wrench and I reduced the cracking by at least 80%! One of the bolts is unfortunately too old to provide the proper torque and the body bar is a bit rusted which is why there is still some occasional cracking when I accelerate and decelerate. I'll get my local mechanic to install a new body support bar and new bolts with the proper torque!
I have a really smooth ride now, I have a plan to get my driver side CV Axle and Tie Rods replaced, and I learned the importance of using a torque wrench and placing the proper torque on bolts when performing your own car repairs!

My hyundai does a cracking sound when i turn the steering wheel completely to each side and drive. It does like crack crack crack with a metallic sound . Your sound is softer
Hi John, your CV joint may have more clearance inside the joint and have more damage, that's probably why the noise is more pronounced.
Yeah its def your cv joint OR your tie rod ends. Strangely enough i bought a new cv joint thinking mine was bad from clicking but when i replaced the tie rod it stopped clicking.....i still replaced the cv joint though. That sound is EXACTLY what i was hearing

Your video gave me possibiities. My 2002 Avalanche makes this clicking noise but so loudly that I think people nearby can hear it. It's loud when I slowly back up, turn the wheel in either direction, or make a left or right turn. Driving with speed is quiet and smooth. I had a mechanic listen with hood up while I turned wheel left and right. To me, sound comes from driver side of engine, but he heard it on passenger side. He had no idea what it could be. I describe the noise as a roulette wheel sound. Thanks. Wish you were here.
Hi Lew, If the car is not moving and you can hear the noise when turning the steering wheel you probably have either a damaged steering rack or a ball joint that's is lacking lubrication. Hope this helps.
my dads volvo has been doing this for months and hes been denying it so thank you i can now fix it
Hi Parker 😂 I'm glad you're stepping up to the plate to help your dad, some people would rather wait until it brakes before they fix it, but this could leave them stranded on the side of the road for hours, so good for you 👍

Hi Alex, Maybe, it is powertrain. You'll have to look at your coverage in the extended warranty paperwork or call your service department at the dealer you purchased it from.
Sorry if this comment is long, I am trying to describe my issue as detailed as possible. Anyway, I lost control of my rear wheel drive 2008 Infiniti G35 in the rain and drifted into a curb while my wheels were turned left. After the impact, my steering wheel got a little harder to turn. I have gone and replaced almost everything in my suspension on the front right side (strut assembly, steering knuckle/spindle assembly, lower control arm, the outer tie rod, and new set of rims). My steering wheel got slightly easier to steer after that, but still gets stiff at higher speeds (of course I still need to get my wheels properly aligned). What I haven't replaced is the inner tie rod or sway bar links. I am hearing the same sound as the car in this video while making sharp turns both left and right at low speeds. Also I hear this noise when I go over bumps, as well as when i press the breaks really hard and the weight of my car transfers to the front. In any situation, the sound is coming from only the front passenger side of the vehicle. Could the source of my issue be either related to the sway bar and link or the inner tie rod? Or could it be my power steering rack, since the tie rods are connected to the rack and pinion?
*And please, don't tell me to take my car to a mechanic. I already did and paid them $105, and they only told me that my strut and lower control arm is bent, which I already was aware of. They didn't mention anything about my tie rods, sway bar links, or steering rack and pinion. Waste of money.*
When you hit the curb most likely the rack was extended on that side and probably absorbed a lot of the impact, bending the rack shaft. The sway bar links may have been damaged but they are connected by small ball joints on each end and have some give during an impact like this. The CV joint may have been damaged internally, it's usually only small C-clips that hold the CV joint to the splines, and with an impact like this, it's very possible it was damaged as well. The alignment will reveal if there's anything bent so you may want to have an alignment done first just to check for any bent parts. I hope this helps, I know some mechanics don't like to dig too deep on problems like this, they pick the easy parts to replace first and then revisit the issues, costing you more money in the long run. Keep me posted on what you find and let me know if I can answer any other questions. Good details in the post 👍
Hey Eddie, thanks for the video! I finally found the noise I have been trying to describe for so long. I have the same issue except I've noticed this noise happens when I'm going at a low speed like curb side parking, while turning the wheel. It makes that rattling/clicking sound when I turn the wheel left and right. I also noticed that the noise comes when I go reverse at a slow speed while turning the steering wheel, and while on Park. Do you happen to know what might be causing this? Thank you so much!
Hi Roxana, if the car is making the noise when you're not moving and in park, and turning the steering wheel, most likely it's the steering rack. If the car is moving slowly and turning, it's most likely a CV joint. I have a comment from someone who found their aftermarket spoked rims were making the noise lol, so there are many possibilities. Can you make a video of the noise, upload it to TH-cam and send me the link?
My Toyota Corolla 2014 does that same thing .. when I turn my steering wheel slowly going left or right it does that.. and I just got the car.. help?

I had that happened to me replaced cv joints and also another part and still was doing it came to find out it was a gasket on a screw that holds the steering wheel together with the tire
Hello 10th Accord Sedan, auto trans, 4 cyl, 1k miles..I just picked this car up. When shifting into drive from park, and especially after backing up and then shifting from reverse to drive and start accelerating, I hear what sounds like a metallic clicking noise up front. It sounds like the transmission. Sometimes it is barely noticeable, other times it is pretty loud. It is simply a loud click(sometimes not so loud)and not a thunk. It only happens once after shifting and does not make any noise afterwards while driving. And also will not happen again unless I switched to R and start accelerating.
That's called pad shift, it's actually the brake pads shifting up and down in the caliper, it's a single click when changing direction, forward or reverse. Nothing to worry about, it's a very common noise for Honda.
Exactly same noise in my explorer 2022 platinum but a little less, any risks if i leave it without change the CV axial ?
Thanks in advance bro
My dodge dart is making a noise when I am trying to park it and I’m moving the wheels in the left. But when I’m driving normal, I can’t hear nothing. Do you think it’s a big deal?Thank you
Hi Leta, When the brake pads are getting low there is a little metal tab that will touch the rotor in those situations so if you haven't done a brake work in a while it may be a good time to have the brakes inspected just to be safe.
@@EddieCarrara1 I never change those thank you🙏
@@letaviola377 Yeah, If you haven't done brake work in a long time it might just be the wear indicator on the brake pad touching the rotor warning you that they are getting low. Let me know what you find, and let me know if you have any other questions.

@@letaviola377 Hi Leta, is the noise on the inside of the car or can you hear it outside the car?
My 06 VW Jetta makes a popping sound when turning and accelerating. I feel it crackling in the gas pedal on my foot. The weird thing is when parallel parking in grass after work it made a really loud pop noise when turning the steering wheel while it wasn’t moving..have driven it since as this just happened this night haha
You may have two different problems? A pop in the suspension is usually a loose or worn ball joint of some kind. I recommend you check them all, even the sway bar links, if all is good, check all subframe and suspension nuts and bolts for torque, something is moving and you just need to find out what?
Hi Eddie and thanks for a very informative video and for taking the time to answer our questions. I have owned a 1988 Honda Accord LX since 1997 and when I bought it, it had 130,000 miles on it. Recently it turned the dial at 200,000 so it is fairly low mileage. I was planning to replace the valve cover gasket soon because oil is leaking onto my engine and smoking quite a bit when it hits the exhaust manifold (and smelling nasty!) But just as I had nearly saved up enough money to fix THAT problem, my Honda began to make clicking noises EXACTLY like on your video and my first thought was: "CV axle." Now it appears I need to replace that, probably on the driver and passenger side, considering the car's age. :( :( Is this a common problem with Hondas? I see a number of folks posting on here that drive that make. I know when I first bought the car 24 years ago, I was told immediately by a mechanic that I needed to replace the boot. One other question!? Would a failing power steering pump make a similar noise? My reservoir needs topping off recently and the power steering belt makes a bad squealing sound for a minute after I start it. I had all belts replaced a couple years ago. THANKS for reading this long post! :)
Hi Rosy, you only drove 70 miles in 24 years lol, that's not a whole lot of driving lol. No it's not a common problem, it's just a wearable part that needs to be replaced over time, and you have certainly got your time out of it. If your mechanic warned you 24 years ago that you were going to need to replace a boot soon, that's probably the axle that is making noise. Most likely the boot ripped open years ago and is just starting to make noise. I recommend you have the axles checked first, maybe you'll only need to replace one. Keep me posted on what you find, thanks.
@@EddieCarrara1 Thanks for answering! Yeah 70,000 miles in 24 years is quite a small amount of driving for the Honda. :) I got that boot fixed back in 1997 as recommended and am now thinking it could be a power steering noise because the reservoir shows a slow leak (need to top it off every couple weeks) and the PS belt squeals for a minute or two at start-up. Anyhow, YourMechanic is sending a guy over this Thursday to replace the valve cover gasket and I will see what he thinks. Happy New Year!
@@rosybaldwin6624 The squeal is just the belt, they tend to stretch after a few hundred miles and if they are not completely taunt during installation they will start to squeak. The leak in the steering system shouldn't cause a clicking noise, maybe a moan or whine noise from the pump from the fluid being low. Let me know when they say, and if you have questions about their diagnosis I'll be right here 😊
@@EddieCarrara1 thanks. I got the driver's side front axle replaced and now no more clicks! :D

On my 2008 Nissan Altima it makes a clunky noise in front of vehicle when turning steering wheel either direction even while in parked and while driving, it gets pretty loud! I've changed many parts on front of car, both brand new strut assemblies, 2 sets of brand new CV joints so 4 total, both brand new sway bar links, both brand new disk with brand new brakes and on driver side brand new bearing assembly. Noise is till there and gets loud at times. I'm frustrated what can this noise be?? It's definitely in front when turning steering wheel either direction!
Hi Rob, maybe upper strut mounts, ball joints, or steering rack. Can you take a 1 min video of the noise, upload it to TH-cam and send me the link so I can hear it?
My car makes same noise when you go in corners and accelerate. But never while driving straight. It's not a lot of noise, if you take it slowly there is almost 0 noise. Is it ok to drive like this for a long period?
Hi Warrior, I always recommend you take it to your local reputable mechanic just so they can verify the noise and they can give you their opinion on how safe it is to drive. CV joints don't usually fail abruptly, they become noisier over time and eventually need to be replaced, but it's a good idea to have it checked just to be sure. Let me know what you decide to do, thanks.
@@EddieCarrara1 at the moment I'll let it like it is, it does that only if you go fast in corners of accelerate. I'll just take care of it and when I can afford a new cv joint I'll probably install it.

Hi Fika, Axles are not that bad to replace, usually a lower ball joint removal, turn the steering wheel to one side to give you slack and pop the inner CV joint out of the trans, don't forget to catch the transmission fluid on some vehicles.
Thanks Eddie. You’re the man!

Sorry so late Xavi, usually about $150 - $200 for parts and about 1.5 - 2.0 hours labor per axle in our New England area. Let me know how you make out.
I wonder what caused this? I will like to know so maybe I can avoid this to happen again to my car, I already bought the Axle shaft but I don't wanna damage that one if it is me that's causing it, or maybe it's just that it gets old? IDK if someone knows lmk pls. :)
Aging is one of the reason why it happens :)
Hi Yoan, Castle is correct, age is a factor and there is really no way to avoid the failure. The only way the driver can shorten the life of a CV joint is by side stepping the clutch, doing rollbacks (burnouts, teardrops), or being super abusive to the drivetrain. Drive your car normally and they will only fail because of normal wear and tear.
Oh okay thank you, well I drive my car normally so I guess it’s the age, thanks for the answer.
Great video! Thanks you. Question - what is the approx cost for replacing CV boot and / or Axle ? I have a 2013 Audi Q5
Hi Jay, it depends on if you use OEM or aftermarket parts. Labor is usually around 2 hours. Some OEM parts cost anywhere from $300 - $800. Hope this helps 🍺

Hi. I've taken my 1999 Lincoln Navigator into the mechanic twice, and spend thousands of dollars on suspention work, to have a LOUD "CLUNKING" noise repaired -- but the problem still remains.
The noise happens occasionally -- usually when I pull out of a parking spot.
When I turn the wheel right, and begin to move forward, It sounds like the front passenger side makes a HUGE, LOUD, "CLUNKING" noise, as thought I am rolling over a BOULDER, and the vehicle strains to accelerate forward.
What could the problem be?
Tirods or cv axles my guess
Maybe stab links

That's awesome Hfame, let me know if you have any questions 😊
What’s the problem with driving with this problem? Does it ruin the trans?
Nope, usually when they have had enough abuse the break and leave the driver stranded lol.
My 2013 Nissan Altima started doing this. However I heard that tapping/clicking sound as I was very slowing driving thru a parking lot. I was going straight, never turning the wheel. I thought maybe it was the shocks. When I got home, before pulling into my garage, I stopped and turned the wheel back and forth and it made sound then too and as I slowly turned in to the garage. What do you think? Cost to repair??
Not CV joints, more likely a suspension part like sway bar links, tie rods, steering rack, ball joints or upper strut mounts. I recommend you start by having the front end checked for any worn or damage parts before changing anything.
@@EddieCarrara1 yep you’re right. It was the stabilizer bar link and control arm. All good now.

Bro my car does this stationary. Like when im coming out a parking spot and turn the wheel left or right it makes the sound but not when im driving. What do i need to do? And how mucb would that cost me? Let me know
It's probably not cause by the CV joint, more likely a ball joint, upper strut, or steering rack. You'll need to have it diagnosed or try pinpointing the noise yourself. You could use a long screwdriver as a stethoscope or buy an automotive one from an auto parts store or Amazon, here is a link amzn.to/2K38F5r
If you buy through the link I make a small commission, I don't care about the commission I just know it's easier to point you to the right tool. By law I have to make that statement.
Have someone sit in the car and turn the wheel while you search for the noise with the screwdriver or stethoscope, once you pinpoint it, replace it or have it replaced. Let me know if this helps, thanks.
Yo mine does the exact same thinf did you ever get this fixed going to the shop tomorrow just curios?

Hi David, Take a quick peek and see if either of the outer joints are leaking or the boots are torn.
@Eddie Carrara had a look yesterday. The boots like fine. I think they're just worn internally.
At what point does it get risky/dangerous to drive with this sound?

I have a 2020 honda civic sport and it makes this same sound a bit louder even while stationary. Should i take it to the dealer?
Yes because if it's making this noise when you're not moving it's definitely not the CV joint or axle.
My VW started right after I installed new wheels at the shop. Could they have damaged it somehow?
Not usually installing wheels. Did they do any other repairs?
My car has a bad alignment that the car dealership said they fixed. Ever since then its been making these clicking noises whwn turning to the left.
What did they do for repairs besides the alignment?
My 2010 Corolla has been making a noise since I got it 2 years ago. Just a knock when turning to the right sharply sometimes. When I first got it would do the left too but that went away when I replaced the fender liner that was rubbing and flapping sometimes. The mechanic I had look at it said it was looking fine and they took a drive and couldn't reproduce the noise. What do you think hasn't got worse in 12000 miles?
Btw the sound is like tap tap tap tap when it does happen sometimes it will just do one quick tap but sometimes it will make 3 or 4 taps
Hi Evan, it's hard to say what is making the noise. A CV joint will usually be very consistent and the noise doesn't go away so you may have something else going on. I recommend you keep an ear on it and when or if it gets worse bring it to your mechanic so they can check it out.
@@EddieCarrara1thanks I've been keeping an ear on it hasn't seemed to change if I don't steer sharp it doesn't happen just have to take it easier

Hey M. It can get expensive, an aftermarket axle is about $150 -$200 plus about 2 hours labor.
Clicking/clunking noise update, I've isolated the noise to be coming from the intermediate steering shaft, and as of lately, my Nitro doesn't have to be in motion to get that sound. Maybe the mechanics will hear it now, they tried sending me to a transmission mechanic because it's a rear wheel drive, I had a talk with the mechanics there and of course the rear differential wouldn't have anything to do with the steering shaft. Does that sound about right?
What does it mean when the steering wheel itself is whats making a clicking noise, mine only clicks once or twice when I turn, especially on a slow turn. 06 Buick Lacrosse with brand new struts, brakes, and front lower control arms. I do have a very slight power steering leak but the levels are fine. Will be replacing the leak (and a couple other things at the same time) when I got money for it. (M
Hi Mariscion. I recommend you check all the nuts a bolts on the components that were replaced, something may not be torqued properly. Did the noise start after the parts were replaced?
should I be changing the cv axle on both front left and front right or is it fine to just replace front left?
Hi Evan, I always replace just the one that is making noise, there's no need to spend money for nothing. Cheers🍻
I have 2015 Honda Civic and I have this exact noise when reversing and turning my steering wheel. The noise is coming from under the car . I just got my cv axle replaced but my car makes this exact noise
Every so often . Any thoughts ??
Hi Bobby Jackie, If the mechanic used remanufactured axles it's possible one may be faulty and was not rebuilt properly. I highly recommend you bring it back to the mechanic so they can check it out. Aftermarket axles usually have a 90 day or 12 month warranty. Let me know what you decide to do, thanks.
Hey Eddie! Thanks so much for the informative video. I just had my CV axle replaced in my Honda Ridgeline after it was making this same kind of sound. Even after the repair, it still seems to make a similar noise every now and then, but only when turning really sharp and slow, such as when leaving a parkade. Any idea why it could still be lingering? Thanks in advance!
Hi Jackson, it's possible another CV joint is on it way out too. If you paid to have the repair done I recommend you bring it back in so they can inspect their work. Sometime new parts can be defective too. I recommend you bring the mechanic for a ride so you can point out your concern and they know exactly what noise you're talking about.

Is it safe to drive?
Hi Da Kie, I always recommend having a mechanic at least do a visual and give your their advice. I can't see, feel, hear, look or drive your vehicle so I can't tell you if your car is safe or not.
Hi Eddie I have a 2013 ford fiesta and it makes the same noise I just wanted to say this video is the only one that shows the same noise that"and I apricots that" mine makes any chance it the same problem?
Hi Maya, yes, it's very possible your vehicle has the same issue. CV joints don't last a life time and sometimes wear prematurely. I recommend you have a seasoned mechanic test drive it with you so you can point out the noise and they can give you their opinion. Let me know what you find, thanks.
I have exactly the same car (odyssey) and same exact problem. It only happens when i do a left turn. Where is the best place to have it repaired? And how much do you think it will cost? Thanks for the video.
Got mine replaced today after watching the video for $1145. Both left and right were broken. $450 each + labor.
Hey GCO, so the noise is gone? The price sounds about right👍
@@EddieCarrara1 yes noise is gone, and the steering became smoother as well.
@@geeseeoh ouch! You can get both sides online for under two hundred total and they aren't that hard to replace in your drive way.
Hi good day eddie. I have the same problem with my crv2010. However, i only hear those sound when im stepping on my brakes? Without stepping the brakes, everything’s fine. I hope you notice my comment. Thanks! Greetings from malasia!
CV axle makes noise when decelerating. Could still be the CV axle. Also could be an issue with the brakes.
Hi Mary, CV joints don't usually make noise when braking. Sometimes brake calipers will creak when slowing down. Is there any way you could take a 1 min video of the noise and post it here on TH-cam, then send me the link? I love it that we can communicate from such far away places 😊 I'm in
New Hampshire USA.
What was your issue sir? This is EXACTLY what happens to my vehicle at the moment and I’m trying to figure it but for the life of me I can’t
Hi Oscar, both of the outer CV joints were internally damaged on this ride.
My 05 lancer is doing this and it's loud even when I'm going straight but before it got bad less than a day before I only noticed it when turning
Hi Mario, when the make noise going straight they are extremely worn lol, but it does happen.
What was your cost to replace the axel? Thanks
If you go aftermarket, the cost of the axle is between $100 and $160, the labor is about 2 hours times the labor rate.
I have an 05 Camry and when I first purchased the vehicle in February I noticed the noise - clicking only for the front left. I brought it in, they replaced the axel. Now months later- November the noise has reemerged on the same front left. Brought it so my mechanic and they said that I need a wheel bearing replacement in the front left. I wonder what’s going on.
Hi Emma, Wheel bearings don't make a clicking sound, they make a humming sound over 20 mph. Hope this helps. Keep me posted on what happens.
At the beginning of the video you mentioned CV joint or CV axle so if I’m having this exact same problem, should I look into the CV joints and axles or just replace the axle itself?
It's much easier to replace the complete axle, the CV joints usually are only OEM so you'll actually save money replacing the complete axle.
Mine its very very light and makes a slight bump almost not noticeable when turning wither way... maybe I should check
I just spent thousands of dollars on suspension work, and my vehicle NOW makes this same noise AFTER I had all the work done.
We have reason to believe the mechanic was not dealing honestly with us.
What can I do?
Who can I contact?
How can I find out if the parts I paid for have actually been put on the car.
Each time we brought the vehicle in, we've spent thousands on a repair, and the original problem has still not been fixed.
Now we have this new problem/noise too.
Who can we contact for help?
My Husband is Disabled, and I feel he's been taken advantage of.
The mechanic lied to me about a matter, and he contorted the billing charges to save on taxes, and he got my Husband to pay a fee that wasn't his responsibility.
He also charged us the wrong tax amount.
What can we do?
How can we find an HONEST mechanic?
Hi Call Girl. There are so many things that can caused noises like this. Is there any way you can make a video of the noise, upload it to TH-cam and send me the link so I can hear it, I don't have to see it, just hear it. If you can get it to make the noise a handful of time that would be very helpful. Have you tried taking it to a Ford dealer? Let me know, thanks.
I know this video is 2 years old but my toyota started to do this noise 2 days ago and it's getting louder and more worrisome. My mechanic is coming over like in a week because he's busy. He thinks it the axel just by listening to the noise. He's gonna ck it then but my question is can I still drive it like this for a few days? The noise is annoying and scary and pretty loud.
Hi Maria, CV joints don't typically fail completely quickly unless there is severe damage. I recommend you call your mechanic and ask them if it's safe to drive for a few days because he is more familiar with the condition of your vehicle. Hope this helps.
So my car has been making that noise for a couple years now, only when I turn sharp! Can I just leave it or will this break or something while im on the freeway? Thanks
Two years is a long time to ignore a problem lol. I can't say what will happen but can recommend you have your local mechanic give you their opinion.
If you don’t change it will it be a problem I’m short on money atm
When you say aftermarket im assuming that's used parts? Don't garages use new parts? What's the point of buying used?
Hi Sonny, no, aftermarket are parts bought at the auto parts store instead of the dealer, non OEM. ACDELCO, Raybesto, and federated are aftermarket parts.
My 2007 Dodge Caliber makes the same noise not sure what the issue is
Most likely its a CV joint Isaiah but I recommend having it diagnosed before replacing the part so you don't spend money for nothing.
it makes that sound om my peugeot 2008 everytime i turn full lock to the right at slowerspeed at example a parkinglot
Hi Cheikh, if the car is moving when you hear the noise it's most likely the CV joint.
I've been searching for a while, and finally found the right nosie your describing! But I found I don't have to be necessarily turning, but I can just be a Low speeds and this happened, but goes away at higher speeds! Any thoughts!??
Thanks heaps!
Hi Rylosaunders, Does the noise get more pronounced when turning? Do you hear it when you're only driving straight? Can you make a 1 minute video, post it to TH-cam and send me the link so I can listen to it?
@@EddieCarrara1 Hi Eddie . Same thing is happening with rylosaunders is happening with me . When I’m driving straight I can hear the noise I was hearing in your video . And yes not when turning . And I’ve taken it to couple inspections and they can’t figure it out . But I think I’ll just have to replace both axels and see what happens .
@@investor2.031 there a couple of possibilities, if the axle nut is not torqued to spec sometimes they can make noise. Something else to check is a caliper creak, when calipers are not lubricated enough the can creak at low speeds. Let me know if this helps.
@@investor2.031 at what speeds do you hear the noise? Describe when you hear, what speed and anything else you can think of to add.

Just my left side clicks but should I change both?
Hi Jamie,
I always recommend replacing the one that is making noise, no sense in replacing a good part that could last for years. you would be needlessly spending money. Let me know how you make out, thanks.
When making a u turn, at a certain point the car jolts as if going over something… it’s very confusing, any insight?
Is the vehicle all wheel drive or 4WD?
I have a 2006 cls500 mercedes rear wheel drive just replaced my passenger side lower control arm and my airmatic strut now my drivers side is making this sound when turning left it doesn’t make any noise when turning right just left at a slower speed like when im turning into a parking spot or pullin in one what could it be? My bushings?
Hi Hollywood, Most likely it's a CV joint making the noise but because you just had some work done on the vehicle you may want to return to your mechanic and have them check their work. Sometimes when the axle nut is not torqued to spec the axle splines make this noise, sometimes it helps to lube the CV joint splines that go into the hub and torque the axle nut to spec. If none of this fixes the noise you may need a CV joint or axle replacement. Let me know what happens, thanks.
I don’t know if you gonna see this comment but hope you do ... I car making the same sound but do you think it could cause the care to Shake ?
Hi Broke boy, not usually. I recommend you check the tire balance first for any shakes. When do you feel the shake??? What speed? When you're turning? Is it when you're accelerating??? Let me know, thanks.
Ball joints??
Nope, ball joints could make a clunk, cause tire wear, and make your steering feel sloppy, but not a clicking sound.
I Have spent alot of money on the co drivers side and its killing me . I got a solution. I wanted to ask a quick question. Is it dangerous?
It's best to have someone look at it to make that assessment, I can't see it, hear it or inspect it so I can only suggest you have someone look at it just to be safe.
I ran over a pot hole and my 2022 Elantra is doing the same thing not as bad is it the same problem also when accelerating or breaking. Is it the same thing?
Not usually when braking DFC, usually only when turning and accelerating from a stop.
My 2016 mustang started to make a similar sound if not exact sound when i reverse out of my driveway
Hey Vihsionzz TV, if the noise is coming from under the center of the car it's possible you have a worn u-joint that's making noise so I recommend you check those first. Let me know what you find, thanks.
My mustang does this as well! Did you figure out what it was?
Hi, how's your aftermarket axle? are they making any vibration while accelerating? Do you have any issues with them? I'm a bit hesitant to replace mine with an aftermarket.
Hi John, it is possible to get an aftermarket axle that is damaged but we have good luck with the ones we install, you'll have different manufacturer options so try to go with a mid grade and not economy.
hi my 2011 hyundai sonata does this mostly when i back up in reverse and the wheel is turned all the way, usually i’m just using the brakes. it’s a just a sharp clicking noise
Sounds like a CV joint to me notme 😊
I don’t know what my car is doing but the steering wheel itself makes a clicking noise when I turn sometimes, yesterday I turned and it was getting stuck at low speeds and clicked until I turned farther I’m struggling to figure out what it is exactly
Hi Nick, is the noise inside or outside the vehicle?
I have a brand new CRV with less than 1000 miles on it that is making this same noise, it’s not as frequent but sounds exactly the same. Is it possible that my CV joint has already gone bad?
Hi Ethan, It's highly unlikely but it is possible. I recommend you take your vehicle to any Honda Dealer and ask to bring a technician for a road test to point out the noise, be persistent to road test with a technician because most techs will not take the time to listen for the noise. Keep me posted on what you find, I'm very curious, thanks.
what if there is just a single click/pop noise when accelerating in reverse or forward with the steering wheel turned?
it also doesn't happen with regular driving.
Hi VR, it could be your brake pads shifting in the front caliper. Pad shift is when you hear one single click when going from drive to reverse or vice versa.
@@EddieCarrara1
thank you.
I've read that it could be the pads shifting, but it doesn't make sense. I installed new pads, rotors and calipers and still had the issue after. This definitely wouldn't be something by design.
Your video demonstrates to me that it's probably not the CV joint either, because it doesn't do it while driving and there is no evidence for any damage.
If it was the strut mount it would making the clunking noise while driving on bumps as well which is not the case.
I'm actually thinking the issue is more towards the transmission mount.
As there is sometimes a slight vibration on idle (ticking noise) and I think it's somehow related to the clunk as the power is transferred over.
Hi i just have a question my car is making popping noise and cracking noise and I don’t really know what it is but sometimes when I’m driving I get scared because something is going to happen like the wheel falling off or something.
It's rare that a wheel will fall off but It would be a good idea to have it checked just to be sure it's safe to drive. As much as I would like to I can't diagnose your car with a description. Let me know what they find.
The same thing was happening to my car and I ordered the whole axle piece. Today it was not making the sound and I'm so pissed off because it completely went away didn't click the whole day and my axle arrives tomorrow. So I will wait till it starts clicking again and then have someone replace the axle. It is such an annoying sound..
Hi Largon, What is the year make and model of your vehicle? CV joint noise very consistent and usually never stops until you replace the axle.
largon 03 how much did it cost?
@@masudahmed5386 Axle replacement cost can vary a lot, on this Honda Odyssey the repair cost parts and labor were $450
@@EddieCarrara1 hello. I have 2014 rr sport. a few days later after I got the axle the clicking sound came back but after I took it for service and they checked the air pressure it completely went away. I think the issue was the tire pressure they all had different amount of air and I think the front right side tire had the least amount of air and it was taking a beating but it is definitely not the axel I've been driving ever sense with no problem and that was probably 2 months ago that it happened. I am even selling the axle I purchased for $260.

I have exact same noise in a Pontiac Montana SV6 on right turns only... it sounds the same as your sound, but this sound was present before and after the both CV axles were replaced, so I'm really stuck.... all the other joints feel solid, so I'm really confused what is doing it as a medium speed turns to the right only - no noise when stationary...
Hi Ping Pong, is there any way you could take a video of the noise, upload it to TH-cam and send me the link?
I literally just bought a 2020 mustang gt and it starting to make a loud pop when I turn, think it’s the same issue? It only has 800 miles on it
Ice_wallow_come 69 I’m not sure if that would be your problem. On front wheel drive cars the CV joints are extended when driving around corners your CV joints pretty much stay straight. I guess it all depends on where the noises coming from, the front of the car or rear?
A v8 mustang doesn't have CV joints bro only fwd cars.
My Saturn v6 started doing the exact noise when turning and stepping on breaks and take off but also did my suspension where make sure your car is in good condition to drive and had work done to it 2-3 weeks later now this noise
Hi Val Tina, try to figure out what side the noise is coming from and look at the outer CV boot on that side, see if they damaged the boot and if it's leaking grease?
My 2019 honda civic makes a similar sound(click) but i only hear it when i take a tight left turn. Dosent make any noise until the steering wheel is all the way to the left. Do you think this is a similar issue or something else?
Hi Daniel, if the noise sounds like the video I would say yes. if you're hearing a single click or creaking, it might be something different. Let me know if I can answer any other questions, thanks.
If I can’t get it done right away how long can I drive on it
Hi Danny, check with your mechanic, I can't say without looking at it.
Hey mines mostly makes that noise but mostly when I exit a parking spot on reverse but driving normal doesn't make noise when I turn can this still be the same issue here on the video
If you havn’t changed that yet you might want to asap, I was driving and the whole thing snapped and popped out so my tire was completely perpendicular with the car, luckily I was in a parking lot so I was doing 5 mph rather than 50 mph :O
Hi Nestor. If you're hearing the clicking in reverse only, the CV joint may only be in the beginning stages of going bad. Usually you can hearth clicking on sharp turns while accelerating in either direction (forward or reverse) and it will also depend on which way your turning the steering wheel (left or right). I recommend you try accelerating in all combinations to see where it makes the most noise. Let me know what you find, thanks.
I have a 2019 Nissan Rogue, and making this clicking sound. At first it was only when I turn right, now doing it when turning left. Sounds like it is coming from passenger wheel. I took it in for services, and they claim they did not hear it, but change the bumper assembly and nuts. Still doing it. Maybe its the CV joint?
Hi Charlotte, The CV joint will only click on acceleration and usually when turning (sometimes when accelerating going straight on an extremely worn CV joint) and the clicking is rhythmic with the rotation of the wheels. Is this what you're hearing? You could test drive with the mechanic to point out the noise, this is the most effective way to share your concerns with the mechanic.
Eddie Carrara my car is a 2009 ford fusion and we just replace the left axle like a year ago it looks good but we have the same noise it sounds more like rubbing bushing just like your video could thy have mad a bad axle we treat are car right never abuse it

Got the same noise coming from my 2011 alfa romeo giulietta making alot of noise when turning and also when going over speed bumps noise seems like its coming from the hub area so assume its the outer cv joint thats worn bought a driveshaft today as cant get hold of a cv joint hopefully changing that resolves the issue 👊🏽👊🏽

@@EddieCarrara1 it happens when turning at low speeds and driving over uneven roads or speed bumps, changed the driveshaft and noise still there maybe it could be a droplink?
@@KuZ1008 Yes, it's possible the sway br links and bushings are causing the noise. If you replace the sway bar links, replace the hold down bushings as well ( bushings that attach the sway bar to the body or frame of the vehicle) they are super cheap and you'll kill two birds with one stone 👍 A CV joint will not make noise over uneven road surfaces FYI.
