You are a life saver, I was convinced it was the strut. I took it apart like 4 times and replaced so many parts. This was the exact noise on my 2016 Corolla. Found 3 of the subframe bolts were loose and like magic the sound disappeared. I can’t thank you enough.

I wonder if that's the issue with my Sentra. 2013...new struts and lower control arms installed also rear stabilizer bars. I hear a creaking/vibration upon acceleration on my driver's side area. I started with rebranding the tires...no dice. I'll have my mechanic check the rear and sub frame bolts. The sound is like a loose something or other. Thanks for the video!

"Merci beaucoup" Same exact noise here! A very thorough video, like a feature film. These bolts were not tight, 14:55 is the solution everyone. Torque your bolts people!
It's amazing how a few loose bolts can cause so much of a headache. I had a similar loose bolt issue. Found it by getting under the car and (with someone inside at the wheel turning) placing my hand on various parts while she turned the wheel side to side. I have a QuickJack so this was much easier and safer. Turns out it was a loose cat exhaust mesh cover that came loose after she ran too fast through a large puddle. Snapped right back in place. Problem solved... and she got a lecture on driving thru standing water lol.
Was the car in with you under there? Because it must have been if the steering lock will click in when turning the steering wheel with the car off. So was the car in with you under there?
I really liked the thorough approach, your specific issue is probably not what causes the cracking noise that I hear in my car, yet that is not relevant. Great vid!
For checking balljoints on FWD/4x4 vehicles, i use a prybar under the tire, and visually check for play. The normal hand on 12oclock/6 oclock wiggle test only works on those cars if the balljoint is REALLY bad (shouldnt drive car until repaired), whereas the prybar will catch worn balljoints, thus giving you time to plan repair/order parts

What a fantastic video! I have a 2020 WRX that’s presenting the SAME problem, that I CANT find. I’ve changed the outter tie rod end bc it was stiff, but still the noise. So the car just came back from the body shop bc a tree limb fell in front of my car, causing $10 worth of damage when I launched over it doing 60 mph. One of the things they replaced was subframe cross member. I can’t wait to put it up and hit em with the old ugga dugga. It’s definitely the same sound so thanks for making my day!
Oddly enough, my 2022 Volvo xc60 also makes the same exact noise when i begin to accelerate a low speeds. Will have the have mechanic check on the subframe as well.@@basicdetail4512
So next time get yourself a stethoscope, you can get them for like 5 or 10 bucks, then have someone turn the wheel while you touch every joint and anything that moves. You will hear the difference when you find the source of the noise. In your case if the subframe was loose you would have heard a lot more noise when touching the stethoscope up against any metal part of the subframe compared to any other metal part you put the stethoscope on. The sound will travel pretty easily through any connected metal but any bushing or joint or rubber will stop it so it helps you isolate these noises.

Just use a meter of garden hose pipe. Put one end in your ear and the other end put near all the different components. Have a helper move the steering wheel to make the noise and the pipe will be your stethoscope.

I have the same problem with Alfa Romeo after I disengaged the clutch. I'm going to go to the mechanic. I hope I have the same problem.Thx for video man!
wow. Thanks for the video! you went through alot of troubleshooting to figure that out. I'm having the same issue on my Avalon. I checked the suspension and everything is good but I still hear a noise coming from the front end :(
I have exactly similar sound to yours, but it occur when I'm breaking on slow speed. The mechanic check and suggest to replace the steering rack! How is that? My personal anticipation is the suspension because such sound is like from steel bending or torsion.
I brought my car to more than 4 different mechanics and they still couldn’t detect exactly wherethe noise was coming from , but my noise was coming from the rear , hope this video helps , I’ll try it soon ✌🏼
I really hope IT Will help you ! M'y goal with this video was precisely to help figure where those kind of noise can come from ! Give me news if you find IT ! Good luck
I had same problem. Tak tak sound. Check drive shaft ok. Link kit ok. Ball joint ok. And im not change the engine. So maybe not from bolt subframe like you. Now im headache. Dont know whre the sound came from.
I'm having a very similar problem with a sonata 2006, I suspect that since I changed the lower control arms, I didn't torqued them enough. I will check it out. Thanks.
I had a Honda Accord which I just installed new rear springs and ended up with a creaking noise on the driver rear area. It turned out I had over tightened a few bolts back which caused the creak. I bought a new torque wrench and tightened all things back there to spec and no more noise.
I'm about to find out if your tutorial would solve my issue as well. Replaced almost all lose parts in suspension but nothing works. Recently, a mechanic replaced the steering rack and had to loosen the crossmember and diff support during the installation. So this might possibly be the same issue that I'm encountering now. Question, do hear thumping noise on uneven roads? Thanks so much for sharing this video. I love the way you explained things in detail (speaks strong of your channel name). So you got another subscriber in me. 🤙
So, you change or replace maybe less than what I have done, and I still have the noise. It could be so many things that even mechanics don't want to find out, they just want to replace and charge things that is already new or replaced. Mine is Kia soul 2012. The wiper reservoir tank is leaking, so maybe is cracked that's why is making a creaking noise when taking a bump. I t could be any Plastic cover so is terrible difficult to diagnose these problems
At 8:57, would have been nice if you used a auto stethoscope (with rod probe ...about $25), and touched various components to listen for the noise. Is best way to pinpoint noise.
Or a screwdriver as a stethoscope I used a screwdriver to find out my fuel pressure sensor was tapping and not my whole head thank god🤣🤣cheap and cheerful
Bon travail pas toujours facile, j'ai un son similaire sur ma Audi Q5, j'espère trouvé, j'ai pas mal fait les même validation à l'exception des Link, se sera ma prochaine étape . . .
My advice in this situations as ı engineer replace all bushes, same with my jag s type ı buy 2 ball joint 2 arm bush 2 suspension bush 2 steering rack bush( insulator) with high quality parts meyle, borg becker etc because all front parts need to be replaced as a set ıf they are mid or bad condition
Avec l'état désastreux de nos routes au Québec , changer des pièces de direction/suspension c'est presqu'au même intervalle que les changements d'huile. Sauf que ça coûte crissement plus cher....😓
Quick safety tip, if you're working on a lifted car, drop it onto the jack stands first, don't just place the jack stands under it while leaving it hanging on the jack, it's quite unsafe
@@basicdetail4512 No, he's talking about 3:40 where you have the wheels off the ground. You need to put the weight of the car on the jack stands and off of the jack.
got same problem but rather like cluncking/cracking noise, 3 garages check and found nothing. Changed shocks/coil springs/strut mountings and strut bearing and it's even worst. Need to tell garage to check all bolts on subframe than
For 6 months my husband has been trying to find my creak he checked everything replaced things just in case greased where he could (i don't have refillable joints) it would lessen with silicone spray all over the joints but never go away. Before the noise started my cel and wrench popped on and got a transmission fault. He did a filter replace and fluid partial replacement (after 9 years having this car and not know when it was last done before me the did was pretty clean. Anyway he noticed the transmission mount had alot of degrading around the rubber of the mount (reason for slight clunk when shifting into reverse) he replaced that, it was about a 3 weeks later the squeak started and now I'm wondering if i may have this issue of improper torque on the when he was putting it all back together
So basically youre saying you have problem with a bolt on the transmission.i recently change the transmission kit assembly so they pulled it down.is it probably that there is the problem.
The noise sounds exactly like a strut cap. That is a McPherson design common problem. A lot of rust and corrison based on your video. The noise sounds in the shock 100%
Mine was only noisy when i am stationary and i turn the steering wheel. It sounds like grinding rubber and it really vibrate the entire car.It doesnt sound when it is lifted up it only sounds when the wheels were on the ground.
For those that might not have context to understand this videos value…he covered all the possible sources of noise. I just replaced the front lower control arms, sway bar end links, sway bar bushings on a 2017 Subaru Forester. After all that I’ve done…I’m dealing with hunting down a noise similar to whats in the video. It’s driving me crazy. 😁 I’m at the point where I’m removing and replacing (same part) the passenger lower control arm. I want to make sure the ball joint on the new part isn’t faulty. Next will be making sure the inner and outer tied rod is ok. Diagnosing this noise can be extremely frustrating. Everything you’ve changed has been straight forward and easy (for the most part), but you’re left with this clunking noise you can’t find. Two tips 1. Make sure to use a product like PB Blaster catalyst penetrating fluid on rusty bolts. Follow the directions on the can. I forgot to use it on the stuck, slightly rusty, control arm ball joint; I spent an hour with a pickle fork knocking that thing out. On the opposite side, I remembered the PB Blaster…knocked the ball joint out in three whacks. 2. Make sure you put weight on the bushings BEFORE you tighten them. If you tighten the control arm bushing while the wheels are off, the bushing will be pre-loaded when the proper weight is on the wheels. In other words, there will be tension on the bushing that shouldn’t be there. Thanks for this comprehensive video. It took a lot of effort to pit it together for us. Cheers 😎👍🇺🇸 Ps I don’t know what your native language is, but…your english was fantastic 👍
Hi , its was fairly easy .. i didnt get any proof of maintenance because i had the car only since 2 month ... the dealer ask me to pay the full service of every fluid to give me a "chance" to prouve hyundai canada my car was maintain

Thanks for sharing us this diagnose
I learned a lot 🎉😊
Thanks for your comment I appreciate brother
Ton anglais est bien au tant que ton investigation. Bon travail et merci!
Merci mon cher j'apprécie ! Très gentil d'avoir pris le temps de m'écrire
I had exactly the same noise. Found out that it was the suspension strut mount bearing. Sprayed with some WD40. Problem solved.
Nice! cheap fix
Thanks for your time making this video
Thanks m'y friend your welcome 😊
Check the bolts on your SUBFRAME. I had the same issue, and after replacing the whole suspension, the issue continued. I found a bolt that was loose on the subframe and fixed the issue.
Yeap at the end of the video I find it and just like you it was the subframe
Merci Mon frere, been looking just like you for the same issue. My santa fe engine is original, but will look at the subframe hardware as well!
You have helped me on other issues with my santa Fe.
Also, your English is very good.
Thanks m'y friend !! I really appreciate your comment ... Sometimes im busy and i hesitate to take the Time to make a video but comment like this remind me That IT worth IT And Makes a difference AT the END of the days!
Thanks a lot
Just use a meter of garden hose pipe. Put one end in your ear and the other end put near all the different components. Have a helper move the steering wheel to make the noise and the pipe will be your stethoscope.
Merci, tellement.. c'etait exactement le video que je cherchait.. santa fe aussi merci
Si tu savais comme ça me fait plaisir de lire ton commentaire ! Merci à toi et bonne recherche
Thank you for the video I’m going to use this for checking my car
Good luck m'y friend
Great video, i have volvo xc90 with the same noise.. i have replaced the strut kit ,the low arms ,sway bar link, joint ball 😢, still there that f.. noise. all the 5 motor mount too
Thanks m'y friend ! Wow this is heavy brother ! Hope for you you gonna find it
I have the same problem with Alfa Romeo after I disengaged the clutch. I'm going to go to the mechanic. I hope I have the same problem.Thx for video man!
I hope to for you !!! thanks for your comment brother
wow. Thanks for the video! you went through alot of troubleshooting to figure that out. I'm having the same issue on my Avalon. I checked the suspension and everything is good but I still hear a noise coming from the front end :(
Thanks brothers i appreciate a lot
This is an amazingly thorough video! Wonderfully made!
Thanks m'y friend I appreciate
wait, so it was just a bolt on the subframe??? Dang this is good info cause I think I got the same issue.
I swear for you ITs just That !! Give me news if Its that
Thank you for your persistence !
Thanks !
Good luck
Did you find out what was the problem?
I had same problem. Tak tak sound. Check drive shaft ok. Link kit ok. Ball joint ok. And im not change the engine. So maybe not from bolt subframe like you. Now im headache. Dont know whre the sound came from.
Do you find something finaly?
@@basicdetail4512 yeahh. the stabilizer link.
@@sedydaud Nice not too mutch Expensive
@@basicdetail4512 ya bro.
I'm having a very similar problem with a sonata 2006, I suspect that since I changed the lower control arms, I didn't torqued them enough. I will check it out. Thanks.
I hope for you this is just that ! Thanks for watching
To check for lower ball joint play, the jack needs to be under the lower control arm.
Yea i should mention IT Thanks
I had a Honda Accord which I just installed new rear springs and ended up with a creaking noise on the driver rear area. It turned out I had over tightened a few bolts back which caused the creak. I bought a new torque wrench and tightened all things back there to spec and no more noise.
Thanks for sharing that ! Very interesting how mutch torque specs can make the difference! Thanks for watching too
Very informative vid .. well done 🚙
Thanks m'y friend I appreciate
Great video! Can you tell me where the sub frame bolts are located on my 2002 Toyota Highlander?
Thanks Victor im sorry i cant Tell you exactly where they are but on Google you can See the Sub frame alone si you can figure where they are good luck
Im sorry for your question i cant remember , but thanks for your comment i appreciate your share
@@basicdetail4512 no worries. keep up the good work
So, you change or replace maybe less than what I have done, and I still have the noise.
Sounds just like my car. Thanks!
Your welcome m'y friend good luck
At 8:57, would have been nice if you used a auto stethoscope (with rod probe ...about $25), and touched various components to listen for the noise. Is best way to pinpoint noise.
Yea for sure ! M'y main concerne ITs That i was Alone during the process but Great Idea for others people are in investigation
I strongly agree
Or a screwdriver as a stethoscope I used a screwdriver to find out my fuel pressure sensor was tapping and not my whole head thank god🤣🤣cheap and cheerful
Bon travail pas toujours facile, j'ai un son similaire sur ma Audi Q5, j'espère trouvé, j'ai pas mal fait les même validation à l'exception des Link, se sera ma prochaine étape . . .
Merci et bonne chance !
Very nice👍.. Watched from India occupied Kashmir
Thank you sajad have a Nice day
My advice in this situations as ı engineer replace all bushes, same with my jag s type ı buy 2 ball joint 2 arm bush 2 suspension bush 2 steering rack bush( insulator) with high quality parts meyle, borg becker etc because all front parts need to be replaced as a set ıf they are mid or bad condition
Quick safety tip, if you're working on a lifted car, drop it onto the jack stands first, don't just place the jack stands under it while leaving it hanging on the jack, it's quite unsafe
Dont worry i place tires under the floor .. but great advice
@@basicdetail4512 No, he's talking about 3:40 where you have the wheels off the ground. You need to put the weight of the car on the jack stands and off of the jack.
greetings for you from Iraq
Thanks m'y friend 😊
got same problem but rather like cluncking/cracking noise, 3 garages check and found nothing. Changed shocks/coil springs/strut mountings and strut bearing and it's even worst. Need to tell garage to check all bolts on subframe than
This is a nightmare ! Hope for you that is the bolt too
Soak Everything with wd-40, air up tires, and make sure per.steering fluid is full.
Thanks for sharing! I hope that you will find it 🙏
This is literally my problem I replaced the axles inner tie rods the putter were still good but it’s still the same exact noise idk what it is
Great video and explaination
Thanks 🙏 i appreciate
do they allow you to work on car on the apartments parking lot? Lucky you!
Yeap ! Im always There to help so m'y neighborhood and they let me do my things
I have the same problem on my e87 - it's driving me crazy for a year, I replaced a lot of parts and cannot find it yet.
Good luck my friend
Hello,
nice video.
I was just wondering what typ of anti Rost U used on your car.
I'm. Planning to treat my Rost this summer..
Thanks ! :) I recommend you fluid film That does an excellent job
@@basicdetail4512 ok
Was this happening while holding break during turns?
Great video, thanks.
Your welcome thanks for your comment
When it comes to checking for bad tie rods, is the tire suppose to move inward at the 3 o'clock position? Is everything stops to stay stiff?
So basically youre saying you have problem with a bolt on the transmission.i recently change the transmission kit assembly so they pulled it down.is it probably that there is the problem.
The noise sounds exactly like a strut cap. That is a McPherson design common problem. A lot of rust and corrison based on your video. The noise sounds in the shock 100%
That wasnt the strut :)
Mine was only noisy when i am stationary and i turn the steering wheel. It sounds like grinding rubber and it really vibrate the entire car.It doesnt sound when it is lifted up it only sounds when the wheels were on the ground.
Seems to me like a control arm bushing
th-cam.com/video/H1fd4N7HLh0/w-d-xo.html
Thank you so much!
Happy to read that ! Thanks for comment its my pay
I’m at the point where I’m removing and replacing (same part) the passenger lower control arm.
Two tips
Cheers 😎👍🇺🇸
Ps I don’t know what your native language is, but…your english was fantastic 👍
Wow thanks so mutch my friend ! I really enjoy your comment ... my first native language is french . Have a good day and thanks again
@@basicdetail4512 You’re welcome. I had a feeling it was French 👍😎
My 1.8 honda noise like this , i used to changing my sturt mount but still noise, and problem was fixed it was a bolt on lower arm😮
i had the exact same noise, sounds like it could be bad strut mount too with cracking sound
How easy or hard was it to get Hyundai to agree to an engine replacement? Can you walk me thru the process involved to get that done? Thanks.
Hi , its was fairly easy .. i didnt get any proof of maintenance because i had the car only since 2 month ... the dealer ask me to pay the full service of every fluid to give me a "chance" to prouve hyundai canada my car was maintain
how would you describe the sound made at 3:10 on the "lower control arm ball joint test"? I find it hard to describe
You mean the sound of the tire against the pry bar?
@@basicdetail4512 it was the tire rubbing with the pry bar? totally missed that, I thought it was something else! but yes, the sound that is heard each time the pry bar is lowered... what word would you use to describe the sound?
@@clavarojwt Thats hard to describe the sound , m'y first Language is french so im far to be the best person to help you on That ... But im Curious why you want to Know how to describe that
@@basicdetail4512 because my first language is not English, and I'm trying to figure out how to describe the symptoms my car has so I may research it further. Basically, there's a creaking/squeaking sound that I've managed to reliably reproduce if I turn the wheels to either side, and then rock the car by pushing it sideways (not vertically), engine off or on, brakes on or off, doesn't matter.
Good shit man!
Thanks
I have a very similar noise on my Hyundai although only when stationary and seems to get worse as the heat increases, was this similar to what you experienced? Thanks for the video
Hope you gonna find IT , maybe this video Will help you ...this Time IT was m'y control arm bushing
