This is a clear and concise diagnostic video. I have a 2010 Audi A3 that had an incredibly irritating rattle that was getting louder. I tried to diagnose the problem several times. I could only re-create the noise if I pushed the car side to side very hard with the wheels straight. I visually inspected everything multiple times and grabbed the tie rod for the sway bar and tried to shake it but couldn’t find the problem. Because of this video I took the wheel off another time and checked all the nuts on the shock absorber to discover that the rattle was the upper tie rod nut being loose (even though it didn’t look or feel like it was). Thank you!

@@christopher-xi2ey If you just started hearing clunking noises on your Car, it's typically one of two things, either your sway bar end links are broken or your front shocks are worn out and need to be replaced.

Great video !!, for me it was the sway bar bushings and the sway bar links. The rubber covers on the links had tore. And the rubber bushing had wore down on the right side causing movement creating that clunking sound....no more noise, it cost around 350.00 to replace links and one set of two bushings for sway bar. Start there before you start replacing shocks and suspension parts...word to the wise. I hope this comment helps because mechanics want to sell struts and major suspension parts. Find someone who is honest and have a talk with them.

Many thanks for your video Gerard. I had to take my honda pilot to the dealer due to not being able to find the source of a rattle noise from the passenger side front. Dealer wanted to charge me $2100 to replace the sway bar links & bushings and compliance bushings. I took it home and replaced the sway bar links & bushings myself for about $120, but the sound was still there. Came across your video and the idea of pushing on the corner of the car to recreate the sound was the key. Wish I had thought about this myself. I was able to find the noise coming from a loose nut on the top strut mount that was causing the washer below it to rattle. Tightened it up and sound is gone. Not sure what the dealership did to diagnose the problem, but they weren't very thorough.

Nice vid. One thing I didn’t hear mentioned is control arm bushings. Those can also make a similar sound when going over uneven or bumpy terrain. If you have an early 2000s Infiniti G35 (and maybe Nissan 350z/370z) this is a very common issue. It happened to me. When I replaced the control arms I replaced the bushings with polyurethane bushings and it looked like they were going to hold up much better or even solve the issue. Unfortunately I totaled the car so now I’ll never know

My car suddenly started making this type of noise tonight and I didn’t feel safe driving it. My spouse made me feel so diminished because he was mad about not getting to the restaurant and stated it makes it because of the bumps and it was fine. Drove it back and I just went to the house while he went with our son in his car. He berated me for not caring enough to make an appointment (I need to get rotation and balance AND new set of tires), even though I had three daily alarms and called twice but the offices were closed. The rattling sound on my Nissan Pathfinder when suv is driving were the clamps on exhaust they rust and fall off and needed to be replaced. Check everything again, check your work to make sure all bolts are secure and torqued properly, if you have a front wheel drive vehicle and your problem is in the front then also check your cv axle for play and your subframe for loose bolts! Also, make sure it isn’t your wheel bearing or somehow your brakes. You can do simple tests to rule out each possibility till you find the culprit, best of luck!

Hello, In the new generation vehicles, the anti rolling bar rubber bushing and the iron bar are combined and welded. In my Renault Megane 4 vehicle, the anti-roll bar and the anti-roll bar bushing were welded together. In other words, if the bushing is broken, not only the rubber bushing is changed, but the complete anti rolling bar itself is changed. Is this true? While the bushing would be changed for 20-30 bucks, we would buy a anti rolling bar for a figure like 300 bucks. Can't this bushing pressed or welded on the iron be scraped off and replaced with a new bushing according to the diameter of the iron? Thanks advance

I've got a 72 reg golf and get a creaking noise when turning the steering at slow speed parking or maneuvering. Took it back to vw to fix on the warranty. They said it was something to do with the upper part of the front struts and used some grease. It's OK now but worried that this could return later on, has the car gets older.

my car makes similar sound, but higher pitch when I drive on a rough road. I don't hear it every time I drive on a rough road, but I definitely can hear it.
I checked my passenger side motor mount and inner rubber has some tears and the knob? attached to the mount is also half way torn.

I have exactly the same noise. I've checked all the suspension in the area and seems to be okay, can't find anything loose. Then after your video I did the bounce test, which couldn't replicate the noise. But when I grabbed the roof rails and pushed the car side to side I got the knock noise.
Would this be more likely the sway bar or anti roll bar? Bushings or nuts?
If that was the case, is that something you can replace without needing a bearing press and removal kit.
Does anyone in Ireland rent those for use?
    Great video for explanation btw
