Yep sounds like my problem on a 2013 Honda Odyssey. CV joint. Had the same issue on old Honda Accord. Never had this issue on any other make of vehicle I’ve owned.
Sounds exactly like what my passenger side 06 ford explorer is doing. Only video I found that showed an example of the noise I’m looking for, thank you.
My 2001 Lincoln Navigator periodically makes a "CLUNKING" noise when turning left or right (mostly right), usually when in 1st gear while pulling out of a parking spot, or when making a right turn onto a street from a Stop Sign. It can also barely accelerate when it happens, and we've had to have it towed. It feels like riding over a boulder! We've spent nearly $4000. on various repairs to try to fix the problem over the last year or so. The mechanic FINALLY exoerienced the "Clunking" situation for himself today, and said it was the Gear Box. What do you think?
After inspection, CV joint and axle showed no breakdown. With no acceleration or breaking It makes a noise on a slight steer to the right. Sounds like its from the passenger side...2011 Camry LE
Motor mounts? Pop the hood. Have some one hold the brake firmly. Switch gears from drive to reverse. Not to fast and do not hit the accelerate pedal. Watch the engine while shifting. See if the motor moves. It should stay pretty firm. If a mount is bad it should rock. Checking side mounts are a little harder to check but can usually be visually inspected. Good luck!!
@@ScottiesHobbies so the mechanic looked at the engine as I shifted with the brake on... he said the amount of engine movement was normal. "there has to be some movement." I mentioned that another mechanic said it could be the motor mount and he said maybe but it wouldn't cause the differential to be out of alignment.... He concluded that it was the differential. its a front wheel drive. He said that there is probably some erosion of the gears and at certain angles and speeds the increased amount of space between teeth causes the ratcheting sound. He said it wasnt the CV assembly. I looked online and saw quite a few people had problems with the transfer case. Basically it being too close to the exhaust dehydrates the grease in the transfer case and it becomes sludge... and or its not watertight and the gears rust... Those seemed to be mostly rear differential complaints. In nearly all the write ups it wasnt specified . But I looked at the transmission fluid and the mechanic did too. He said it was good and that there was no contaminants in it. No metallic pieces I suppose... This was after driving around for a while. Im hoping that I have a good differential and that maybe I can just have the fluid changed or something ... The mechanic said its a normal problem for my car and replacing the differential would be expensive... I may have it done anyway cuz I like the CX9.

That could be any bushing in the suspension or steering system. Someone needs to watch the location that is clunking. The bad bushing should move. Sometimes they are hart to find. Check the strut mounts too. Good luck and keep us posted.
Have you taken a look at your CV boots? When you get a chance take a look under the car on the inside of your drive wheels. It's. You should have some rubber accordion looking boots that seal the CV shaft bearings. If you see Greece leaking from those, you probably have the same issue as in the video.
I never put a new gease boot on. It's not worth improperly lubing and contamination in the bearing. In my opinion. If you are going to remove the cv shift, just put a new one back. Most come with a lifetime warranty and you don't have to worry about the mess and extra time of rebuilding your cv shift. If the boot rips again, go get a new one for free.
@Scotties Hobbies I guess if you mean solved by replace then sure. And I understand the TH-cam game of titles and etc... I am not a mechanic. But I do work on cars as a DIY person. Long story short, I got screwed over by a shop while in school. So... Here's a video of someone tearing it down. th-cam.com/video/QYi_zGcg7ME/w-d-xo.html It is not stated why, but my guess, once the housing and inner race got damaged, the bearings can no longer move freely. The ball bearings in this video was not damaged. That could be considered solve as it some what explain the actual cause of the clicking, clunking sound in details. OEM parts are 3 or 4 times more expensive than aftermarket parts. And while true that it is warranty, you hear some stories, of vibration and other problems. So yes you can always get replacements. Read on forums that some people had to swap out their axle 3x from certain aftermarket parts. Some oem website might still sell parts individually of the cv axle assembly. If you go the OEM route to ensure "problem free" installation gonna cost you. Or aftermarket and take a chance. Best case scenario, I also read in certain places they can rebuild your OEM axle. If it's only your out joints that cause the problem and it usually is the first to go. The shaft and inner cv joint are still good, why not recycle. I know maybe, your intended audience may not be someone who really want the "detail" explanation of things.
I've never seen one break... but... I had a view message me saying he broke and slapped around on the freeway causing major damage. So... I'd give it some attention sooner than later.
@@ScottiesHobbies thanks for the reply. I hit a small kerb when parking. Front left of the tire wall took the impact. I notice a squeaking noise later that day when braking but that went away. Now after 10 mins of driving or so there is now a small rattling noise under acceleration and at cruising speed and stops when i lift and slow down. If I drive slow I hear nothing but if I turn really fast to the right I can hear the rattle again. Sound is definitely coming from the front left where I hit. Could it be brake or cv, or?
Weird how it only happens after a few mins of driving. Thinking the rotor heats up and expands causing rubbing, honestly don't know if that's even a thing lol
Replaced my passenger axel and still have the noise now I cant afford to find the real problem. Also most of my components are new ( shocks/struts, tie rod ends, sway links, lower control arms etc) 04 rsx
Did you see any visible grease leaking from either of the boots on the CV shaft you replaced? Have you visually inspected the other side for boot damage? How about your strut mounts? Lastly... in the last month my friend had a odd sound like a clunk when he make a turn. Only one clunk per turn. We couldn't find anything. Come to find out he had 2 bad motor mounts. Replaced the motor mounts and sound went away. With all that said. Not all repairs needed are going to be the same every time. Sometimes its worth paying a little , like $90, on a diagnostic. Spend more now, save a ton in the long run. I'll cover this on a podcast this weekend. Check back or subscribe for a Hopefully more detailed response if there can be one.

Idk why I can send a picture bit you said you never seen a CV axle snap before but my 2000 Acura tl had one of its axles snap into 2 right in the middle. Driving no more then 20 mph amd it skipped like my tires bounced on the road I let go of the gas and slowly pushed it again and it snapped in 2 lol.
that is crazy! Does it have any symptoms before it snapped or did it just catastrophically fail?
@@ScottiesHobbies no just failed for now reason. Thought I share some info about it
Hi there I have kind of same noise when I turn left but very very tiny. The vehicle was sitting for a while with the previous owner. Do u think lubrication will take it away ?
Please reply. Thanks again for your time
Its worth a try. Have you looked to see if you have a torn grease boot on your cv?
@@ScottiesHobbies no I didn't try to see. But can u uncover the boot to see that ?
It also make tick noise when I take off at gas.
@@ashrafsiddiquee3190 if you look at the back of your rim, you should be able to see your outer cv boot. It'll look like a black accordion. See if those are broken and grease slung out of it. Check both sides.
@@ScottiesHobbies thank you for your time and reply. I'm acctueally replacing both CV axles right now. Waiting for my macanic to finish up and call me to pick up the vehicle. Let's see how it is. Hopefully problem should be solved .
I'll let you know after I drive the vehicle.
Thanks again for the reply
This definitely sounds like what I'm hearing from my honda oddessey
My car clunks on turning right and left ive changed ball joints track rod ends wishbones suspension top mounts drop links anti roll bar bushes but not changed inner cv joints , will inner cv joints cause clunking around corners i dont have any clunking whilst driving in a straight line only on corners any ideas?
Motor or trans mounts? Sometimes you can check them by watching the engine while switching from reverse to drive.. not too fast.. the engine might move a lot.. if it does, the mounts are probably bad.
Will that make it clunk around corners?
@@jamiewilliams1287 it is possible. I actually just had a friend with the same problem as you. It was a mid 20 teens civic. You could hear the clunk a lot in parking lots. One or two clunks when he would turn... if you have a continuous clunk while turning, I doubt the mount is the issue.
@@ScottiesHobbies yea my cars a lupo gti im thinking its either the mounts inside drive shafts or the diff.. what was his problem mine knocks about twice 3 times
I have the same car same noise I replaced it myself still make the same noise I think it’s something else plz help
Did you check both sides?
Well did you?
Ok i have a 2010 jeep grand cherokee and its making this exact noise . i distinctly remember hitting a bump and hearing something kind of 'pop' then it made this exact noise . could this be the only cause of this exact sound ?
No unless your jeep is all wheel drive?
Thanks for this video 📹 🙌
My pleasure 😊
What about a wub wub sounds when turning right. It sounds like it's coming from the driver side rear
Probably bearing in the wheel is shot sounds like an airplane while driving I bet
So my 2014 Honda Civic has a clacking sound when I turn the steering wheel with the turn signal on it’s not the turn signal sound it’s a clacking sound I did go to a shop I had a bad left cv joint and axle got it replaced steering is more smooth but still get the clacking with turn signal on when turning anyone have the same issue or knows what issue might be maybe I need a new turn signal stock? I’m at around 85k mileage for anyone wondering
I have a very similar sound - replaced CV axles and bearings, and I still have the same sound under the same turning situation. Any ideas?
Did you ever figure this out?! I can’t find anything and we’ve replaced both as well
2001 Honda Accord Coupe.... Thanks 🙏🏽
My car clunks hard when I’m parked and turn the wheel to full lock what can it be? I have a 2011 rwd Chrysler 300
That could be any bushing in the suspension or steering system. Someone needs to watch the location that is clunking. The bad bushing should move. Sometimes they are hart to find. Check the strut mounts too.
Good luck and keep us posted.
@@ScottiesHobbies just traded the car in for a Q50 redsport thanks ❤️
My boot isn't broken but I'm getting a clicking sound turning
I'm hearing same sound now after 290 000km. It does exactly same sound but after like 10-20km driving it's disappearing. 🤔
Have you taken a look at your CV boots? When you get a chance take a look under the car on the inside of your drive wheels. It's. You should have some rubber accordion looking boots that seal the CV shaft bearings. If you see Greece leaking from those, you probably have the same issue as in the video.
I just had the CV axle and control arms replaced. And it still makes the noise
When does it make the sound?
Brakes maybe?
Not solved.
If that is the case a regreased and new boots should work base on your diagnostics.
So what is the actual cause?
Hmmm.... solved this car.
Did you see the 'clunking' video?
What do you think caused the sound?
So...
Here's a video of someone tearing it down.
th-cam.com/video/QYi_zGcg7ME/w-d-xo.html
It is not stated why, but my guess, once the housing and inner race got damaged, the bearings can no longer move freely.
@@ScottiesHobbies and here is a more detail tear down of the outer cv joint.
th-cam.com/video/3-R11jtnyV8/w-d-xo.html
What if you never replace it? What would happen
@@ScottiesHobbies all work has been done by mechanics I've thrown so much money at it and the problem persists. Theres no more money now. Also motor mounts were the first thing I had replaced
@@chadwolf790 holy cow! I'd be frustrated. Do you get 'road noise' when driving?
@@ScottiesHobbies I wouldnt hear over music/ wind
@@chadwolf790 i would say no in that case. But I was thinking, bearing? But you'd hear like a constant rubbing sound. Sounds like the plastic underbody panels hanging down... but in the car more than the outside.
Will this make the car drive like a truck ?
Thanks so much my man

What causes these to break? It seems like my 2018 Jeep Compass cv shaft just broke at only 45,000 miles. I do Uber and Lyft. That’s why all the miles in just 1 year. But, still never had this issue on any of my other cars. What gives?
Inclined road parking and bumps
Mine makes a noise that's high pitched similar to this but it's in my wheel when I'm in drive or reverse when I turn hard right I'm hearing some kind of clicking in the same area of this video I've replaced alot of stuff so I'm hoping this video helps
I switched my axels still does the same moise
could be a motor or trans mount.....
thanks for the help. my car exactly.

My wife's vehicle has more of a 'clunk' than a 'click' sound. But I'm going to check this out when she gets home. Thanks for the vid. BTW, is this something that's difficult to replace? Is there special parts required? Should I take it in to a mechanic or can I handle this one?
Did you ever get this solved? I’m having the same issue. More of a clunk than a click.
@@JayAlstonArt me also, i get like a tock tock slow pace sound when turning, ever figured out?

What can cause a clunking noise when turning the steering wheel to the right when in reverse in a Honda civic 2012
Any update on yours? I’m having the same problem with my 12 civic I’m thinking it’s either this or a tire rod issue.
Probably tie rod too you can check by lifting the tire that has the issue and checking 12 an 6 and and 3 and 9 for play
Sounds exactly like my range right now
My car is making the same noise but the boot on the CV joint is good and not torn. Can it still be the cv joint?
jack the two front up in the air.
turn your wheels while turning.
also check your sway bar links by grabbing & turning.
@@angelisone thank you!. I found out it is the CV axel the boot did tear just wasn't where I could see untill I lifted it
@@OGGamingJedi If you have not replaced them, do replaced the lower ball joints also.
and check for inner and outer tie rods.
@@angelisone I think the ball joints are good. It wasn't having a issue untill the cv axel boot ripped now when I turn it clicks alot. When I replace the cv axel it should be good after that but if it still feels wierd or clicks after I replace the axel then I will do those next I'm tight on money rn so I'm going to fix 1 thing at a time lol
@@OGGamingJedi What year, brand, model & mileages?
The axle's nut is on very tight.
1. Make sure you straighten the axle's dented lip to round & reuse it. A new axle has nut
2. Loosen that nut with wheel on the ground or re bar to lock rotor from spinning.
3. If you can't take out the axle assy out, then turn the wheel (N) ever 11 degrees
4. If you remove part of the lower or top joint, check with 3 fingers = move means replace
5. Check lower control arm /or top control arm
6. Once the axle is out do check the inner and outer tie rods = hold it horizontal & let up
All those mentioned above should not move easily
When you buy the cv axle, make sure you buy transmission seal (cv axle to transmission)
Thank you !
SMH I'm afraid this is the symptom my car is having. I had right one done about 3years ago and now the left is clicking
