  • 10 Reasons I get frustrated by my new 2021 Ford Mustang Mach E. Overall I still very much like the car and I prefer it over all my previous vehicles such as 2013 Chevy Camaro, a 2017 Chevy Colorado ZR2 and a 2015 Jeep 2-Door Willys Wheeler. But there are a few things that Ford could have made better!
If you enjoy this video please consider liking and subscribing for future content. In a couple weeks, I will be driving across country stealth camping and boon docking inside my 2021 Ford Mach E. I will be visiting National Parks and National Forests along the way. So please join me on this crazy adventure!

You most definitely can take the Mach-E to a car wash, but you have to be aware of the "Auto Hold" feature. If you have Auto Hold enabled, the car essentially applies the parking brake automatically whenever you stop. If you take your foot off the brake, the car does not move and when you press the accelerator, the brake is automatically released for you. When entering a car wash when your Mach-E has auto-hold enabled, you have to enter a "tow mode" to allow the rollers to pull your car forward. You Press the brake, put the car into Neutral, and then press "L" to enter a "tow mode". To get your car back into drive at the end of the wash, tap the brake and put it into "D". If you do not have auto-hold enabled, simply put your car into Neutral like any other vehicle.

We went to a car wash a couple months ago and the side brush of the car wash managed to hit the charge port door just right and popped it open. It then proceeded to smack the crap out of the door damaging it. It still closes (not flush) but now we have to put painters tape on it whenever we go back through the car wash to ensure it’s closed. Seems like a miss for Ford not to have a lock on the charge port door.

It's crazy to see other Mach E owners have different OTA updates. You haven't received the latest update. I can tell by where you volume range display come on. For heat, hit the hvac button, turn on eheat, recirculate on, turn the temperature to "hi", and change the fan to auto. For the pre-collision alerts, there is a setting where you can change it to minimal instead of normal.

I own a 2013 Gen 1 Volt I bought brand new. I still own it and just turn 100k miles. Great car. However, the one thing that is a royal PITA is the heater control. No knobs for temp or fan speed. Sometimes when you call for heat, it's buggy. The Volt does not have a heat pump and it's my understanding that the Mach E does not either, but uses resistive type heat which would definitely put a load on the battery when in use. I am reading a lot of negative reviews about the heating system in the Mach E. Real world experience reviews is always welcomed.

What battery loss can i expect per day if its not plugged in? And I will leave it outside around 80-90%. And it will be a cold start i guess everyday when we have winter. Will i loose alot of range everyday or is there a way for me to pre heat it without loosing so much range?

I just got my Mach E Premium this month and have taken through a car wash twice. It was an adventure at first but I discovered when you put it in neutral, there is an L in the middle of the gear knob. When you push it a message comes up on the screen in front of you. Hit ok and it will stay in neutral for 30 minutes or until you hit the brake when exiting the dryer. Also, make sure one pedal drive is off.

Looking forward to your cross country trip. We purchased our 2021 AWD Std Range on Saturday. The dealer was 200 miles away. The trip home was from Cape Girardeau, MO through St. Louis to Columbia. 4 out of 5 Fast Chargers didn't work or were not compatible. Ran out of charge on I70 - 0% charge. Was able to limp to the next charger 4-5 miles away at 15-20 mph. Roadside Assistance stayed on the phone until we were charging (good job!). Charges fine at home but I doubt I take it more than 50 miles away. Two surprises/lessons a) Fast chargers are not reliable yet b) cold weather range is not well communicated.

I have a Mach-E very similar to yours ('21 Premium AWD, black). You can absolutely use a car wash, but it needs to be one that moves around your car. But EVERY.SINGLE.ONE of your points is 100% correct! As soon as you started to mention each one, I was already agreeing, because I've complained about the same thing to my wife. We took mine into the Alleghenys at the end of January with -12°F average and had to leave it plugged into the condo 24/7 at 120v for three days. And overnight it was just maintaining the battery, not actively charging. Couldn't wait to get it back home in the garage with its 240v/40a 9.6KW charger.
Mine also has a driver door opening glitch, and the software got stuck trying to upgrade to 1.7.1. It's going into the shop on Monday for the panoramic roof and windshield recalls. I hope they can fix my software, too.
I hope your issues were resolved, but like you I'd still do it all over again. Glitches and issues aside, it's still an incredible machine!

Hey fellow Buffalonian - I agree with a number of things you had listed. I also find myself constantly playing with the heat & fan settings. Heating in the car is just truly horrible in my opinion. There's another TH-camr called "UpNorth Mike" who really dives deep into the heating issue. As for the car wash, I hadn't heard before that you can't take it through a track car wash...I've been taking mine through Delta Sonic since I bought it (4-6 times/month). I know Tesla's have a car wash mode to keep a car in neutral, but I've never had an issue with the Mach E set in neutral. Time will tell I suppose. All in all, the Mach E in winter sometimes gets me so aggravated that I want to trade it in, but then I remember how much I like it in the spring, summer, and fall.

Called the Ford Consumer Relations line and they said that you could indeed take the car through an automatic car wash. I did, and no problems whatsoever. It has the same 5.7” ground clearance as the eco boost performance pack fastback I traded in (same car wash), and, again no issues going through with the MME! Thanks for the review. Great video and thanks for sharing. I have 8K miles on my GT. A few encouraging comments.
    1. Paak gets better with the software updates you will get at dealer. Will work with phone in your pocket with phone locked so long as the app is on.
    2. Find a touch less car wash where you pull in and the car is not on a conveyor. All EVs have some tricks to get neutral free-roll for a conveyor belt, depends on 1p driving etc. but touchless wash removes scratch risks and saves your paint.
Want to emphasize driving an EV is just sick fun, especially in a performance version. Insta torque and linear acceleration is addictive. Many question the pony badge but that was Fords call for marketing (it worked and they can’t make the MachE fast enough). Hoping someday they make a real mustang coupe EV but in the meantime MachE has earned being a well rated EV, especially for a first gen from Ford. I would still choose MachE over a Model Y/3 for my tastes.

@@Xonikz I was going to say exactly just that! Heat pumps work great and mild temperatures. 45° and above. Quite a bit more energy efficient to produce heat that way. But when the temperatures get around 20°, heat pump becomes irrelevant. Heat pumps work just like air conditioning but in reverse. When temperatures get below 30° it really starts to lose effectiveness, and becomes non-existent around 15 to 20°. That's when resistive heat kicks in. And some of the more expensive EVS they have both heat pumps and resistive heat. Unfortunately resistive heat just drains batteries.

The adaptive cruise control flashes at you when you manually go faster than the speed limit of the road. I find that totally annoying. I know I am passing other cars. I love my Explorer and it will tow 5,600 lbs. which to me is important due to my utility trailer. Love the B&O sound system, which pairs to my music on my phone. What I do at home is set the car for delayed charging (7am) and plug it in. That way charging happens during the coldest part of the night and, as you know, the process of charging also adds warmth to the battery. In addition, in the morning, before driving off, I'll remote start the car to pre-condition the battery before I unplug.

I have a 2021 Premium RWD ER. For setting temperature, instead of using the touchscreen, you can do it with Sync voice commands. Just press the voice button on the steering wheel and say "Set temperature 68" (or whatever temperature you want, or you can tell it to turn on/off as well). No need to fiddle with the touchscreen. Also, if yours has heated seats, the heated seats use less power and can help you stay warm without draining the battery as quickly. As far as car wash, I assume you're referring to the type of car wash that pulls the car through. I've used a touchless car wash where the car stays in one spot and isn't pulled through, and it works fine. My car came out clean. I've never used car washes with brushes (or "scratch and dent" car washes, as my grandpa called them). If you want to take it through a car wash that pulls you through, I believe all you have to do is put it in neutral and then press the L button on the gear selector. You may want to look that up to be sure, but I believe that's how it works. It's not a bunch of settings to change or any complicated procedure or process to go through.

Here's the deal with the Tesla car wash mode. There are some car washes that require you to get out of the car while it rides on a track thru the wash. I've seen them in California but never in New York. Anyway, if you put the Tesla in neutral and then get out, it will put itself into park automatically. When in car wash mode, it will stay in neutral even after you exit the vehicle. I have a model 3 and if I go through a normal type wash I just put in neutral and it's like any other car. I'm on this page because I'm looking into getting a Mach-E.

I have a mach-e to be build here in July. I may post a review for people that want a more extreme winter review. I'm in Alaska, and I haven't really seen any reviews testing here with occasional -63°F, wind, and lots of hills from mountain driving.

The range loss on cold days is due to Ford not using a heat pump? Therein lies the reason Tesla uses one. Ford claims the added weight would negate the benefits.

    • @MatthewManzella
      @MatthewManzella  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

Tesla designed there own heat pump which is probably 1/4 the size of the one Ford can make

    • @rkgsd
      @rkgsd 2 ปีที่แล้ว

@@MatthewManzella The engineering team must have a few disassembled Teslas, so seems to me they could reverse engineer it if they really wanted to as long as patents aren't in the way of matching the small size.

I can tell you 10 reasons i hate my 2016 ford fusion.
    #3 piston cracked.
    #3 piston cracked again.
    Transmission only goes in reverse.
something major breaks on it every year even when its well maintained.
Cheap cast pistons with a turbo.
i cant drive it because its always broken.
you need a backup car for when something breaks on it.
under body panels collect dirt like a bucket.
#3 piston will probably crack again.
the compass is wack and shows side directions wrong. for example when facing north reading it clockwise it shows NWSE instead of NESW
its suppose to read "Never Eat Shredded Wheat" not "Now We Special Education"

Then when we got in line the machine started yanking on the car's wheels, I was like oh boy, there is no way to back up, so what now. Then, after the attendant came and we tried all kind of whatever, the L button did the trick and it went through it with no issues.
