The fronk opening wasn’t accidental. Target and ford are in kahoots- ford opens the trunk to remind you that you have so much space to buy target merchandise.
If those are the complaints, then it's been positive overall. That's good. I'm still not ready for an electric, but that's looks and price. There's plenty enough range for my driving, and lots of good features. This sounds like it was a good purchase.
I do find Ford not offering a heat pump bizarre. We have a Kia EV with the heat pump, and I haven’t noticed a big drop in range yet. Admittedly, we live in Atlanta, GA. However, I hear of owners in Scandinavia who have Kias and Hyundais with the heat pumps, and their range drop isn’t much in winter. All that said, I’m glad you’re enjoying the vehicle.
I recently test drove a Mach-E and was surprised with a lot of their choices. -The button and handle to get in is very awkward -The large inside screen is nice, but it needs to be turned so its horizontal. Stuff at the bottom of the screen feels like its on the floor -A button to "start" the vehicle is odd in an EV. There's no engine to start. So you can accidentally leave it running. -The odd little handle to pull to get out of the vehicle could have been integrated better. -No way to easily select where you want battery to stop charging without having to select location first. I really enjoyed how comfortable the driver seat was.
I've had my First Edition since March 2021 and other than a random bugaboo here and there (that frankly comes with all software-defined vehicles) and getting bit by the HBVC issue) we've had a great experience and I think it's the best car I've ever owned for all around fun, practicality, tech, looks, and comfort. It's every bit as fast, fun, and comfortable than the i-Pace I previously had, without the CONSTANT breaking down that came with the Jag. And it has so many useful features that the Model Y doesn't have (like 360 camera, rear cross traffic alerts, a gauge cluster, Android Auto/Apple CarPlay) it was a no brainier for us.
Thank you for your comments which I mostly agree to, however, your remark on the phone as a key is not what I experience. I doesn't matter whether my iPhone is active or on standby to open the car. It is dependent on the FordPass app to be running in the background. So do not completely close the FordPass app in order to allow keyless entry with the iPhone, even if it is in standby mode.
"Isn't an issue" = massive issue at -12, -15, -18, -20, -25 and more rarely -30 celsius here in Canada. The range reduction issue is a non-starter, every Canadian EV owner ends up in Regret City.
I've pretty much had all the same issues on my Mustang Mach-E (Rear wheel drive, standard range battery). I swear before a few updates ago those tiny locks on my Mach-E didn't work but they work pretty much everytime now. It's happened with less frequency now but my Mach-E didn't always connect to my phone and that wouldn't be so bad if it didn't default to playing AM radio (got annoying static) or Sirius XM. I'm with you on the range loss in winter. Not surprised and nothing to sell my car over. I've lost about 100 estimated miles on a full charge but thats mainly because i'm blasting the heat. Not having a heat pump was the one big thing ford missed on the Mach-E in my opinion. My Frunk never randomly popped up unless I didn't close it right. Phone as a Key has worked pretty well for me. I accidently left the house without my Key and drove a few miles to the bus stop (missed the bus v_v) and only after going back to my Mach-E did I realize I didn't have the FOB on me. Edit: Not loading driver profiles is annoying and seems to be a new issue. At least for me. But if you hold down on the volume (on the steering wheel) and hold down the skip forward button for about 5-10 seconds it'll reset the center console which has fixed the issue (for that drive). Cool thing about the reset is it doesn't stop the car from driving. Just resets the big screen. Overall very fair video.
@@MattMaranMotoring No problem! Be nice if Ford would fix it >_>. But your review was one of my favorite to watch while waiting the ~7 months it took my car to arrive.
So I’ve had my vehicle for almost 2 years. I was one of the first deliveries. I have about 22k miles on the vehicle. Here’s my issue with Ford at this point… the PaaK issues have been from day 1. Granted, it’s gotten a LITTLE bit better, but not much. Using the infotainment has always been abysmal (super slow as well), and somehow, the most recent software updates have made it worse. Profiles have always been glitchy, and mine also gets stuck in guest mode. Once they introduced dual phone mode, it broke CarPlay reliability (for me, wireless AND wired), as well as it just connects to whatever phone it wants and won’t let me switch. BlueCruise has been rather decent, but it likes to disengage without much warning or reason. And “cancels” in a spot where it doesn’t make sense to cancel. Here’s my thing… when you build a car around SOFTWARE, that software has to be damn snappy and RELIABLE. These issues shouldn’t take but a couple weeks to resolve via an OTA. Their OTA cadence is incredibly disappointing. I know you haven’t had the vehicle long, but coming from me who’s had it for nearly 2 years, what I’ve seen is unacceptable. Here’s to hoping the new interface that’s rolling out fixes these issues. If not, I will seriously consider replacing the car. I keep seeing people on the forums saying “just restart the head unit” (volume down and right track on steering wheel). Yeah, I get that it may resolve the issue. I’ve been forced to do it more times than I can count. However, I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO DO IT. I paid $63,000 for this car and it should work every damn time I get in the vehicle, no questions asked. Rant over.
I got 2023 RWD 91kw battery. I know this video was uploaded long ago, , Funny never had any issues after 3 months and 5k miles later with opening the doors. I never carry a key around anymore just like the Tesla. Might want to have them change those under warranty. I just use the walk away feature and works every time. I do have an iPhone Hopefully you got the latest software update but zero issues so far.
The Carplay issue is probably not a Mach-E issue but more likely an Apple issue. I've had my Mach-E for two years now and have never had Android Auto fail to connect.
A lot of people complain about the EV range, just like what you said, if your regular commute is less than 100 miles per day, there is no need to worry about the range, if doing a lot of road trips, EV is simply not for you, just buy a regular gas or hybrid, no need to complain. For me, I do 99.99% city driving, EV/hybrid fits me better than a traditional gas car, I currently drives a Honda Pilot, it’s not a fuel efficiency car, and I plan on switching to hybrid or EV in the future, Honda Prologue, ZDX, new Pilot(if the hybrid version comes out later), or next gen RDX(if it has hybrid or EV version), or MDX mid-cycle refresh with hybrid, these cars are on my shopping list.
Check and make sure you don't have phone as key set to require it be unlocked to work. Or just set the combination lock that way you don't need anything to get into the car if you are going back out to grab something.
As far as I am concerned, the majority of EV's on the market are too expensive, period. At least here in Canada they are. That's the single largest deterrent to buyers (even more than all of the unproven long-term reliability concerns that most folks have about them).
Thank you for the video. As someone who is waiting for delivery of his Mach-e, I find videos like this interesting, I would ask you to redo this after after the you installed the sync 4 update, since 3 of the issues(I am including the frunk issue) are sync 4 software related. I would be interested in comparing the results.
Wireless CarPlay for me is the only complaint I have. So I keep a lightning cable in the car. CarPlay doesn't really work too well in my Volvo either, and it's a wired connection. Profile is also a known issue, happens to me once in a while as well. As for winter range, yeah, no issue at all. Also, the range estimate calculation was updated recently (update 3.6.2) to make the estimates a bit less pessimistic. Awesome car in the winter.
i've had my premium since may '21...loving it...but i will say, i expected a more powerful audio system...sometimes i toy with the idea of installing my old powered subwoofer...but, i'm already nervous enough about issues popping up, and i don't want to give ford an excuse to claim that i invalidated the warrantee
Mach E GT Performance: phone asleep issue once (could not open the rear door with just the phone but I could open the drivers door then the rear opened). Glitch: This Trip does not always reset when the car is started. I have found a simple work around. Winter mileage: dropped from 260-270 to as low as 186. An update has raised it back above 220. Other glitch: I sometimes hear an alarm when I open the hatch. I cannot find a cause. Android Auto: the VPN on the phone blocks it. Turning it off (before I start the car) or plugging in (at any time) fixes that.
Issue #5: And now you know why only 147 EV's of all brands were sold in North Dakota for MY 2022 (frankly, I'm surprised it was that many). FYI, it's currently the high temp here for today: -10F.
That can be worked around but the Dakota's have about the least electric infrastructure in North America so once y'all fix that it will be fine. Most families that live with seasons will still have one gas car for a number of years yet. We do, because no EV can get to all the places we vacation at. Well you can maybe get there, you just can't get back.
Thanks Matt. Ironically all the issues you mention are mostly all technology related and its an EV....they are not alone VW having ridiculous tech issues wit the ID4....
Heat is absolutely free in a gas car. Dialling the heat on doesn't _create_ heat-- the climate control merely _redirects_ heat that was already there into the cabin rather than have it dumped overboard via the radiator. An electric vehicle has to use power to either scavenge heat from the outside, or generate that heat outright. And idling for warm-up is a lifestyle choice-- some folks climb into a cold car and drive slowly until the oil warms up so they get actual mileage out of that fuel.
This comment is probably past relevancy but to lock the car you can also hold 9/0 and 7/8 on the combination lock on the driver door for a couple seconds.
You can just set the car to lock and unlock as you walk away or get near the car, I have never once needed to use the option on the actual door. If you have issues with your phone connecting for android auto or Apple CarPlay just turn off the wi-fi and Bluetooth on your phone and turn them back on. This usually fixes it for me. I unfortunately have to put mine in the shop January 3rd for a failed from camera that is disabling my blue cruise, front collision detection, and cruise control. Seems to be really really common unfortunately
I am sure Ford will fix all the software glitches eventually. But that front end I just don't like, I but i do like the GT front end much nicer, I wonder if you could exchange with that. And yes most people don't need over 200 miles per day, but it's nice to have 300 mile range, especially if you live in cold climates, for that exact reason that range is drops so much, and sometimes it may come up that you may need to drive unexpectedly farther than normal, 300 is the golden spot for all electric cars
I’m confused by your lock and unlock experience. I have a 2023 premium and it locks automatically when I walk away from the vehicle Acer unlocks when I approach the car with either my phone or the key fob.
I am so torn between the Mach-E and the Genesis EV60. You have driven both, so as a family of 3 (11 year old daughter), which is the better family car? Obviously we are past strollers and and all the baby gear we need to haul around. In all honestly it will mainly be me and my daughter driving around on the weekends we use my husbands truck.
I'm glad to hear that overall the Mach E is working well for your family. Thanks to your review I'm now interested in the 2023 Prius Prime. However it seems like it will be hard to find.
I have a 2021 Mach E⁴ Select. Love it. But when it's cold, it drains the battery like no other- and I'm sure it's like that w/ other EV's. To counter this, I use adaptive cruise control w/ 70 mph being my max (in winter only) (also maybe considering doing this in summer as well...)
Funny review! Even with reading glasses, I never had issue pressing the open and the lock buttons! Wireless connection a mobile fails mostly due to other interfering signals or mobiles own issue, when the mobile has paired with other devices like ear phone! Not sure about the back seat, never sat in the back seat, thus cannot comment, however Ford gives most accurate range compared to any auto maker!
Yeah, efficiency is lower, but since it’s so cheap to charge at home anyway, I haven’t even noticed a difference in our power bill, especially since we don’t drive a ton.
Can you leave the car charging, turn the car on and warm up the interior while charging to lessen the mileage hit? My understanding is that warming the interior is the big drain in the winter. If you can do the initial warming while it’s plugged in, that should improve the range some.
Getting only 25% less mileage range in the Mach e in winter months compared to summer months isn't bad at all, 147 miles range in winter at 90% charge is decent, I certainly would keep the car very be respectable range an would do my full 20 mile a day work commute 6 days a week with left over miles in range 👌👌👍🏴
Your auto profiles will probably work better if you don't carry both your fob and your phone (if your phone is set up as Paak). I've found that if I have both my fob and my key on me, it will mistakenly pick my wife's profile instead of mine (it gets confused). Seems like a software update could/should fix that. 🙂 Just posting in case it helps!
Interesting issues! Winter range loss applies to all vehicles for sure...our Toyota Rav4 loses about 25% mileage right now. Our Kona EV is a bit more but no big deal! How do you own a vehicle for this long and only put on 2600 miles? 🤣 We have had our Kona EV for 4 months and have 20,000km (13,000+ miles). Merry Christmas Mike 🇨🇦
Hey Matt we just got a Mach E GT and one thing I was wondering you’re having trouble getting in and it locking in the setting you can set it up where it’ll unlock and lock when you walk up or walk away we turned off the unlock but the lock when you walk away works way better than pressing the button we did just get it in December so I’m not sure if it’s something that only late 22 early 23 model year but definitely worth looking at
Congrats on your new GT! Yeah we have that feature as well but honestly it has annoyed me in past press cars that had that, and I don't always trust it either, so for me I'd rather have the bother of hitting it a few times but at least knowing it worked and only locked/unlocked when I wanted it to. I'm probably weird to want that though lol.
Glad you overall are happy with the Mach E. It still feels like it has too many compromises to be considered, not to mention maybe being still bitter about using the Mustang name...And the heat pump is mind boggling. Even my Cooper SE has that!
Well I'd say eliminating door handles makes more sense than the yoke. Door handles reduce aerodynamic efficiency which is why most EVs either try to get rid of them or have power-recessing mechanisms instead. I think Ford opted for the buttons because they'll hold up better over time than a fancy power-operated handle.
Can anyone tell me how to delete the "FORD MOTOR COMPANY" program from my car memory. This automatically send my charging bill to Ford. I do not have an option when I plug in to charge my Mach -E.
I don't think your issues with the Galax-E is "nitpicky" these are real problems, why all this electronic nonsense that could be solved with a simple non touch sensitive buttons and levers. Side note; won't load driver profiles? What is this a PlayStation? What are we doing 🤣
Ford putting a mustang badge on that, all joking aside, makes me lose faith in every product they sell. I don’t trust they can attach the wheel’s correctly to a f150 if they’re willing to risk the legacy of one of the worlds oldest and longest running models
Paying so much for these electric cars and to have to live with quirks and poor quality isn’t worth it, in my opinion. I’ll probably get the new Prius and wait until all the quirks have been ironed out in EVs before dropping that much money into one.
The EV cold weather range is a given. That’s why I cannot buy one is because they don’t work for my commute. But the first few things you listed have a common trend; technology. And with that being the hot thing manufacturers are cramming into new cars, it makes you wonder how many issues we will have in the future. It’s kinda silly to need your phone awake for the key to work. Wasn’t the point of a phone as a key so you didn’t have to take your keys out of your pocket? Not a deal breaker for me but I could see theses as valid nuisances for some people.
So a paltry 200 mile range on a single charge range and over 50k plus new? Not justifiable money well spent vs an eco boost 2.0 litre gas engine that does well on mpgs between fill ups. Two, just over technologized AND will be costly to repair once that factory warranty expires. Jeez what are the modern cars coming too?
I don't understand the range obsession unless you do a ton of daily driving. If you drive 200+ miles a day then yes, absolutely a gas engine is the better choice for that person.
Trips. Overlay -20 celsius on top of that Xmas trip to go visit the in-laws here in Canada, and the range penalty becomes ridiculous. You lost 25%, folks here lose up to 35%. 640-650 km range on my G in the Summer, 580-590 km in the cold Winters we get North of the 48th.
@@stgeorgee At -20 celsius any battery will get cold. If you're actually garaging an EV that comes home full of salt and dripping water... hmmm I don't know... congrats on the daily cleanups?? Hopefully it doesn't bring that humidity to a sports car that coexists in the garage lol.
Yes, the true and tried eco boost 4 popper, 2.0 litre engine and a more simple designed interior without all the gimmicky do dads that will not hold up over time and will lead to very costly repairs once the warranty goes. Maybe better to lease and upgrade considering reliability issues will arise down the road. Design language is ok, but no where near the Mustang heritage, just styling cues to look like a Stang.
It's funny that you blame the car because your phone doesn't work with it, the fault could be in your phone. Second, you've bought yourself an electric car, but it's the car's fault that you haven't checked its range first. It's not the car's fault if you're not familiar with what you're buying. Do you lock the door when leaving the car? I don't lock myself because I always carry the keys with me. Our insurance company does not cover theft if the keys are not presented when the car is stolen. The video is pretty much a forced attempt to make faults that are 90% caused by the user and not the car..

Goodness I hate these things. But I’m a GT350 owner so I guess I take this vehicle personally
TBH I think the door lock thing is the whole platform because my escape does similar things with the key...
Sounds like it needs software updates.
i use the smart key to unlock my lexus but i always use the fob to lock. standing at the door for 2 sec is time i dont have haha
My sister is in the market for one, I totally missed your July announcement! Just forwarded the vid to her, thanks for posting.
Thanks for sharing it! I appreciate it!
Same here :(. Also we don’t have a heat pump so more drastic decrease in range compared to others
Funny review! Even with reading glasses, I never had issue pressing the open and the lock buttons! Wireless connection a mobile fails mostly due to other interfering signals or mobiles own issue, when the mobile has paired with other devices like ear phone! Not sure about the back seat, never sat in the back seat, thus cannot comment, however Ford gives most accurate range compared to any auto maker!
if you lose range in the cold weather, doesn't that mean you are now spending more money to charge it?
yes
Just posting in case it helps!
Interesting issues!
Winter range loss applies to all vehicles for sure...our Toyota Rav4 loses about 25% mileage right now. Our Kona EV is a bit more but no big deal!
How do you own a vehicle for this long and only put on 2600 miles? 🤣
We have had our Kona EV for 4 months and have 20,000km (13,000+ miles).
Merry Christmas
Mike 🇨🇦
This car's design is awesome... definitely a competitor to Tesla Y
I suspect a heat pump would reduce the effect of the cold weather.
Glad you overall are happy with the Mach E. It still feels like it has too many compromises to be considered, not to mention maybe being still bitter about using the Mustang name...And the heat pump is mind boggling. Even my Cooper SE has that!
Sounds like common Ford quality issues
Its actually the perfect car for me, but I just can’t get over the no door handles…kind of like the damn yoke on the new Teslas. It’s like why?
Well I'd say eliminating door handles makes more sense than the yoke. Door handles reduce aerodynamic efficiency which is why most EVs either try to get rid of them or have power-recessing mechanisms instead. I think Ford opted for the buttons because they'll hold up better over time than a fancy power-operated handle.
@@MattMaranMotoring I hope so. That being said two of my doors have presenter issues T_T.
I could argue the phone needing to be unlocked to open the car, could be by design. I'd actually prefer that for security reasons.
You should've had Beth do this video with you!
Should we charge to 80 or 90%…!?! I’ve always heard 80 was the mark…!?!
do you feel cold air coming from the glassroof? I have experience with that from other cars and I am bit afraid.
I don't think I ever have honestly.
I find it appalling that you have not tested whether or not the frunk is good for chicken wings
Rented one for my honeymoon and the wireless CarPlay was TERRIBLE. Switched to the cable.
Ford putting a mustang badge on that, all joking aside, makes me lose faith in every product they sell. I don’t trust they can attach the wheel’s correctly to a f150 if they’re willing to risk the legacy of one of the worlds oldest and longest running models
Very helpful video!
Paying so much for these electric cars and to have to live with quirks and poor quality isn’t worth it, in my opinion. I’ll probably get the new Prius and wait until all the quirks have been ironed out in EVs before dropping that much money into one.
Thanks for not calling it a Mustang
I never do haha, always Mach-E. I still don’t like the name either.
Can’t wait for the ZDX Type S, the spy shot just out today.
Why would anyone spend 50k-70k for a Mach E if you're just driving 10-20 miles. So many better options.
Because everyone likes different things and what’s better for you and your lifestyle may not be better for everyone else and their lifestyle.
@@MattMaranMotoring I agree and respect that answer. You're also right about doing your research before buying an EV.
jesus
imagine every single time you get in or out of your brand new car youre reminded how much u hate the fkn car
Keep walk away lock on or u can press 7/9 on the door pad to lock
putting a hate video so close to christmas, somebody is on the naughty list lol
40 miles is a giant change ohmahgahd lol
Great vid
Good car, terrible phone😢
So basically you just need a golf cart most of the time. 🙂
Why not just do the walk away auto lock instead of pressing the button
Don’t trust it. And there’s times where I’m only walking away for a minute and don’t want it to lock.
@@MattMaranMotoring I use the walkaway lock and it works every time
The EV cold weather range is a given.
Sounds like a lot of phone issues.
The Mach E is honestly a terrible option. The Model Y is so much better in almost every criteria.
I like the 1968 real Mustang much better.
@@jacquesc3166 that only applies to a cold battery.
@@jacquesc3166 tell me you don’t know what you are talking about, without telling me you don’t know what you are talking about.
No car is perfect. Glad there is nothing major you don't like.
I agree!
I’ll consider this vehicle when they put a gas engine in it
It's called an explorer
…….Gas engines are a dead dinosaur.
@@eddieg6436 Gas powered cars are never going away. There’s not enough lithium and nickel to supply millions to ev’s a year
Yes, the true and tried eco boost 4 popper, 2.0 litre engine and a more simple designed interior without all the gimmicky do dads that will not hold up over time and will lead to very costly repairs once the warranty goes. Maybe better to lease and upgrade considering reliability issues will arise down the road. Design language is ok, but no where near the Mustang heritage, just styling cues to look like a Stang.
@@bradenmchenry995 you’re assuming that battery technology will never evolve past those chemicals
🔥🔥🔥
It's funny that you blame the car because your phone doesn't work with it, the fault could be in your phone. Second, you've bought yourself an electric car, but it's the car's fault that you haven't checked its range first. It's not the car's fault if you're not familiar with what you're buying. Do you lock the door when leaving the car? I don't lock myself because I always carry the keys with me. Our insurance company does not cover theft if the keys are not presented when the car is stolen. The video is pretty much a forced attempt to make faults that are 90% caused by the user and not the car..
My 5 things:
1. It's a Ford.
2. Ford made it.
3. it's a car made by Ford.
4. the design and assembly were completed by Ford.
5. It's a Ford.
Should of brought an U.S. built Tesla instead of a Mexico built Ford Mach E! Tesla is $7.5K off too!
Junk electric
How picky can you possibly be…..
Really only two things I hate. #1 it’s not a mustang. #2 it sounds gai. 😁
The entire thing is a crime.
This is why I hate Ford.
Dude! This is standard issue Ford. Always issues
1. Not a mustang
2. Not a mustang

Sheesh Mary, can you speak without the constant hand motion? I got motion sickenss watching 2 minutes of this before I quit watching.
Why buy a new car if your going to never drive it?
Because we still need transportation…?
Tesla is just generations better. You are in denial to say they are not. Better price better charging station and just better overall
Lol wannabe mustang
its a ford dude. not sure what you expect.
Matt, you're a grown man with an iPhone? Unsubscribed. I used to think you were a decent person
