I couldn't agree more. I'm also apartment shopping in Portland, Oregon and its been so difficult to find a pretty apartment in a good location. I just don't understand why NEW complexes are still putting carpet in, wire shelving, gray walls / doors, weird textured walls etc. I know that I'm more picky than the average person but all of these things make units look very dated and old. @@KiaraMadisen Tell me about after my last roommates situation almost two years ago, I promised myself never to live with roommates again, I lived in the house with like 6 roommates, but one of the roommate was an alcoholic so...., that house was sold and then I moved back to my Mom, and few months later, I moved where I am now by myself
I live in a great apartment complex in Portland that I was so lucky to not only get in but be able to stay in! It's a tight knit community that's kind of tucked away not on the best side of town. I absolutely love it! When it's right, it's right. You'll just know 💕
in unit washer/dryer was a huge one when I was apartment hunting with my husband...after having to haul my laundry to the dorm/old apartment laundry rooms, I was like nope! no more!
I love apartment shopping videos! I liked both of the apartment buildings you show in this video but I could definitely understand where you were coming from with lots of the pros and cons. Can’t wait to see what you decided!
Having lived in a very similar building in Hillsboro (Orenco) - I recognize the builder. One thing I caution you on (or rather to make you aware) is that every year your rent will increase by $100-$200. These are the nicer apartments in the area that typically get you in with lower-prices (relatively speaking) and then wham...once you're all comfy, when the lease is about up, you'll find out they're raising the lease rate. It's disappointing especially when you find an apartment you really like. Just beware!
To me the most important things are location (quiet, clean part of the city), with good public transport connections (I live in Europe), not so much away from the city center/work, with some greenery in the neighbourhood. This is Portland OR, so I think having a lot of green is probably the only achievable item on your list. Portland sucks I cannot wait to move away from here. I’ve had large rocks thrown in my car by crazy naked people in the middle of the day, plus catalytic converters stolen. Getting rid of my newer car because gas station attendants tell me I look like “the enemy” when I drive our Mercedes. Public transport is really just the buses or MAX, but I would rather avoid the public of Portland it’s different here than Europe sadly. Sensible layouts are difficult to come by here for some reason. Even a lot of homes to purchase are built like bowling alleys, so long and narrow.

And omg I can't get over that penthouse!!!! I'm currently living in a 204 square foot studio apartment with one window so that is like the absolute dream!! Apartment compromising stinks. Especially when you realize it's not possible budget-wise to get an apartment with everything you need/want. For me, I gave up the in-unit washer/dryer and I believe that's why I am not fully happy with the apartment I'm living in currently.
It is SO hard because every place is so different. And a washer dryer compromise is hard…hopefully you can keep your eye out for a place that fits your needs more and move in time!
If you don’t mind me asking but what was the price for the one bedrooms for apartment 1 and 2! In unit washer and dryer is an absolute must for me! Tbh when I used to live in the college dorms for 2 years, even though the laundry was on the same floor as my room was, it’s just the whole idea of being kind of inconvenienced while having to wash close! I had to put my clothes in the washer, set a timer, rush to go get them out, so as for no one to throw my clothes onto of the washer or on the gross floor. 😭 laundry I feel like is just much much easier when it is your own apartment, you can switch clothes to each machine whenever you feel like. I’ve also never been a huge balcony person, it’s not something I ever care about having, especially if they charge you extra for it! It did crazy seeing these prices for a one bedroom in Portland, because in tucson, AZ the pretty nice one bedrooms (NOT LUXURY) are only about 1499/month! Although I love the modern look of these places! I also hate wire shelves in my closets! They look so cheap and they’re hard to move clothes back and forth on the racks
Ahhhhhhh! This is exciting! Can’t wait to see more units with you, Kiara. I would say non-negotiable items for me are balcony, washer/dryer, good lighting, not near a highway!
I was apartment shopping in Portland two weeks ago, I finally decided to rent a room in a house. It ended up costing half of what I would have paid for a one bedroom. One bedroom units were going for 1500$+ and my room costs 700$ with utilities included.
Hey Lucie! Would you be willing to chat about which apartment complexes you looked at? I’m going apartment hunting in Portland the week after Thanksgiving!

We viewed 6 units in the same building, and ended up being accepted for one. The problem was we didn't know which one until the day we moved in! We were the first tenants in that apartment which was a real blessing, but it also had a number of issues the first year we lived there. We were there for 3 years though!

I’m trying to find a place I’m really happy with so I don’t have to move as much because I’m so tired of it and moving is so expensive!!
Hey Kiera! So....the Penthouse unit at THE RODNEY is one I looked at that is also right on the 405 and I TOO FELL IN L❤️❤️❤️VE with it!! I'm looking specifically in the Pearl. Non negotiables are washer dryer being at least on-site, and no stall showers! It’s gotta be a bathtub or at least as big as a bathtub, or I get claustrophobic haha
The penthouse was a dream 😍🥺 But honestly, even if I had the money, do I really wanna spend that much on a living space when I can invest the same amount of money in other things, like traveling, unique furniture, food 😄 ?! I think lightening is a must, the kitchen/living space and a washing machine are key elements for my future apartment. But it's different in Germany, as many apartments only have space to put your own washing machine and in older apartments you even have to have your own kitchen 😅 I think it's because of the risk of possible damage that the landlord/lady would need to pay for 🤷🏼♀️
Welcome to Portland OR , and yeah looking for apartment is not easy and so stressful, I finally was able to move by myself and rent my own apartment last year, my rent is less than $1000, but it is low income, in December is going to be 1 years living in this apartments.
Location is the most important or the first thing I look up to. Is it near my family, some friends or is it near my school, work and supermarket. I can live without a lot of amenities. I'm happy with the basics and a chill Location without noise, that's perfect
How far away is Portland from where you live now? And does Oregon have travel restrictions? I'm moving out of my flat that's 2hrs away from my parent's home as it's likely I won't be able to travel over Christmas because of covid travel restrictions
for me location is the most important. all the apartments look amazing, i love how the kitchen is placed. i can’t wait to see more about your apartment shopping journey!!
hey Kiara! Could you please share the name of this building ? I am moving to pdx in April and I absolutely loved some of these units ( mainly cause of the closet spaces 😂)
I am looking for an apartment right now too and it has to have in unit washer and dryer and parking since I am buying a car too. Since I moved to a lower cost of living city this apartment can be bigger and I will be getting a two bed this time instead of a studio so I can have a proper office since I will be working from home so much.
Is having an in-unit washer-dryer system a common thing in America? In my apartment building, there is a communal laundromat in my building, and the machines cost money to use, so I find myself just doing laundry at either my mom or dad's house every couple of weeks. When I move out in the future, having an in-unit washer-dryer will definitely become a non-negotiable because the next time I move will be when I leave to go to the big city, so that will definitely be a must-have for me!
It is very very commune to have in unit washer and dryers! Except less common in New York or old buildings! But it is totally a game changer to have one to yourself that’s “free” beside the water and power that’s just added onto your utility bill!
@@KiaraMadisen I am so jealous! I bet my parents would be so grateful if I had my own washer and dryer. I'm really lucky because both my water and power are included in my rent, which is something that even they don't have, and it would be a huge load off their shoulders if I had a washer and dryer in my own apartment instead of constantly using theirs LOL
This is so exciting! I love flowing your journey 🤩 something I would not compromise on when I had to move was parking! Where I live there are parking spots for some apartment buildings, but in the city’s you often have to park on the side of the road and I just stresses me out living on a road where I don’t know if there is any parking when I come home 🚙 and I really wanted a dishwasher and balcony and I’m so lucky I got all of those things 🤩 the only thing I’m missing is my own washer and dryer (we have one of each we share in the basement) and heating in the bathroom floor - the floor is SO cold and it’s not even winter yet 😅 good luck finding your new home 🥰
I know! So expensive but very fun to see! I think it would be hard to go back…especially because my unit was the best in my opinion and someone else lives in that unit…but I will say that place was nicer and a better deal than I thought 😂
Practice in the mirror alone before and actually speak out loud so you can get all the word stumbling out of the way! And then it’s harder said then done, but remaining as calm before as you can and trying to Distract yourself so you’re not a spiraling case of nerves in front of everyone. I also always mess myself up when I doubt myself up there, so trust your preparation and celebrate when it’s all over!! You got this!
Storage space is huge and that would be my biggest complaint about my husband and I's current apartment. We have plenty of it but at the same time not enough especially in one of the cabinets in our bathroom. I feel like the cabinet could have at least one or two more shelves.
I was really hoping to see you buy or rent to own a house next. I can totally relate to being drawn to a fancy new property…been there. Just know after the first year or two they will jump the prices up and you might find yourself moving again. Something to think about.
So true! I’m not ready to live in a house nor do I have a down payment…I’ll live here for a bit and see where life takes me and hopefully the housing market can chill in the mean time too!
Thanks girl!! For doing the apt hunting for me 🤣 social anxiety is so real for me and these little interactions require so much energy !! Lol lots of love going ur way

Location is the most important or the first thing I look up to. Is it near my family, some friends or is it near my school, work and supermarket.
I can live without a lot of amenities. I'm happy with the basics and a chill Location without noise, that's perfect
I will begin hunting next Feb in Portland as I know a lot of new built apartments around
You look stunning 😍 Can’t wait to see the final place!
Me too!
I’m in the search as well but I’m having to do it virtually across the country. It’s overwhelming!
I loved this video , your sweater looks so aesthetic ✨
Aww thanks girlie!! Hope you have an amazing day ❤️
@@KiaraMadisen yes, love the video and sweater! Where is it from?
How far away is Portland from where you live now? And does Oregon have travel restrictions? I'm moving out of my flat that's 2hrs away from my parent's home as it's likely I won't be able to travel over Christmas because of covid travel restrictions
my apartment dealbreaker is for sure a washer and dryer!!!
Must haves in the room for me are large living room, windows, decent size kitchen and closet space
Yes yes yes 🤩 these are all big musts!
Next video idea: Kiara and Katie take Doug New York apartment shopping!
BRB we got to go book our flights 😂
@@KiaraMadisen do it! 😂😂
for me location is the most important. all the apartments look amazing, i love how the kitchen is placed. i can’t wait to see more about your apartment shopping journey!!
I agree location is such a big deal! Thanks so much for watching & following along!
Ahh that is exciting! Apartment hunting is so much fun but also stressful coz all the comparing all the apartments to make a choice!
Exactly!! It’s a love hate relationship for sure.
Which building was that penthouse in? so gorgeous!
The Rodney!
hey Kiara! Could you please share the name of this building ? I am moving to pdx in April and I absolutely loved some of these units ( mainly cause of the closet spaces 😂)
First ones were the Dylan and the second building is the Rodney! Good luck on your move!
Was not expecting this already and girl that orange turtleneck suits you so well 😍😍
I am looking for an apartment right now too and it has to have in unit washer and dryer and parking since I am buying a car too. Since I moved to a lower cost of living city this apartment can be bigger and I will be getting a two bed this time instead of a studio so I can have a proper office since I will be working from home so much.
I think the last and most affordable one was nice.
Yes!! Love the video!!
I’m so glad! Thanks for watching!
Aaaaaaah, how am I so excited to see somebodys elses life unfold🥺❤❤
Haha I always am too!
NOT THE CLIFFHANGER
You trained me well ;)
OMG we’re moving into that penthouse one day. manifesting it now
Is having an in-unit washer-dryer system a common thing in America?
Pets allowed, store in walking distance are things I need in a house/ apartment
Yep and washer/dryer in unit
Can I ask you what apartments you went to!? I def want the walk in closet!! Lol
Both buildings are great too bad the penthouse was about twice the rent ..so nice! Would you ever consider going back to the one you just left?
I know! So expensive but very fun to see! I think it would be hard to go back…especially because my unit was the best in my opinion and someone else lives in that unit…but I will say that place was nicer and a better deal than I thought 😂
Hi Kiara. Do you have any advice on public speaking and presenting a project in class?
Practice in the mirror alone before and actually speak out loud so you can get all the word stumbling out of the way! And then it’s harder said then done, but remaining as calm before as you can and trying to
Distract yourself so you’re not a spiraling case of nerves in front of everyone. I also always mess myself up when I doubt myself up there, so trust your preparation and celebrate when it’s all over!! You got this!
Yaaay for New adventures
Oh yea!! Excited to see where I end up!!
Storage space is huge and that would be my biggest complaint about my husband and I's current apartment. We have plenty of it but at the same time not enough especially in one of the cabinets in our bathroom. I feel like the cabinet could have at least one or two more shelves.
Omg this is so exciting - love a good car chat
The tea is always spilt in the car 😉
Yayy for new beginnings 💃
Hoping for a new year and a new apartment!!
Love Kiara👹
Thanks for watching!! ❤️
Great apartment shopping and happy November, Kiara!❤️❤️❤️❤️
Thanks so much for watching!!
For me it's definitely washer and dryer!! I do not have time to spend hours at a laundromat.
SAME. I do not have time for that especially with how much I wash my scrubs!
Thanks girl!! For doing the apt hunting for me 🤣 social anxiety is so real for me and these little interactions require so much energy !! Lol lots of love going ur way
Haha I feel! It’s so much work to go on the hunt but I’m glad I could share it with you to save you some time and energy!! Hood you’re having a good Tuesday, thank you for watching ❤️
seeing the view of portland from the penthouse lowkey kinda made me tear up a bit haha, i haven't been back since july this year. i'm so excited for you!!!
Ugh I know I was like THIS is Portland and why I love it so much. Insane views. Can’t wait for you to come home to hopefully some good snow this winter!
I divorced Portland in 2016. If I didn't leave, after my rent went up and up, but not my pay, I would have been a full-time working homeless person. Eff you, Portland!
I feel the same way in my state 😢
You always pick the cutest outfits. 🤍 I love your hair too.
Aww thanks…I was about to take fam pics hence the outfit 😅
I live near there! You can see the OHSU tram
omg this is so cool, i just found your channel and i live in portland lol!
So cool! Love meeting more cool Portlanders!
Wait but now I need a video of Doug reacting to NYC micro apartment tour videos 😂😂
Omg. He’s be like “see these people live in no space why dont I build you something like this in the backyard and you can live in it” 😂
All of the apartment looks amazing! You look so beautiful in this video! 💗💯
Thank you so much!
@@KiaraMadisen you’re welcome!
I love 2 and 3 and 4
My fav youtuber 😍😍😍
