I hope you did not get the studio, because it will smell like food all the time and your clothing will as well. Imagine if you try to make a grill food, all the smoke of oil will get stok and stink your bed. I lived 6 monts ago that situation, I was making my master degree. My best wishes to you Kiara, regards from México.
Oh yeah, I second this. And allow yourself extra time because odds are you'll get distracted by discovering items you hadn't seen in a while. I was at my previous place for 6 years and you realize how you end up with more stuff than you should have.
LOVE this video Kiara! ❤️I’m really hoping you choose the 1# one with the 2 bath and 2 bedroom that has the giant master bedroom. That was my fave, but whatever apartment you chose we will all love it!❤️
I think you're being insensitive by writing "master bedroom" you should think about the kind words you use for they could have a huge impact on people's feelings.
@@kenziebrownn Because of its connotation with the historical generational trauma of slavery just like you see CEO's of sports teams now no longer referring to themselves as "Owners" for the same reason.
Hey girl! I'm glad you feel good about the apt you're applying for! You and Doug have thought about a lot of little things I never would have thought of like how loud the ac/heat is, what it's like at night, etc; such good things to check out! I hope this place works out for you and you can make it your own!
Seeing your love for floor to ceiling windows and your Pinterest ideas, I guess unit 5. But whichever you choose I know the decoration would be so good. Love ya! ♥️
You could easily buy a tension rod and make a closet out of that built in desk area. Hampers/shoes/small dresser can fit under the desk and the rod can go as far above the desk as you can comfortably reach to hang your clothes
I also got a kitchen island from target and I absolutely love it, I would have no idea what I’d do without. My kitchen is about the size of all the ones your showed and I didn’t realize how much the extra storage in an island is so help full!! Especially for things like ziplocs, foil, etc!
I live in Portland. That's a super nice area or town. We looked over there because our lease is up in August but our bldg wooed us into staying another year with a super sweet deal 🙃..so we're staying in Laurelhurst for another year! You made the right choice! Good luck on your move!
Looking forward to watching another move in video from you!!! I'm moving into a new apartment soon so I def need some tips on how to get organized for the move.
You should also check the crime rate in that area since they are downsizing the police. Also, the renter turnover how long the tenants live there. Also how frequently do they raise the rent? And last but not least off-street parking.
I've been watching so many videos about small Japanese apartments and am impressed with how they manage to store stuff in creative yet visually appealing ways. If you're working with less storage space than would be ideal, I would be glad to recommend some videos and channels that feature such apartments. As for tips, have a bin with everything you will need the first day to two days bedding items and toilet paper for example). And pack an overnight bag as if you're going on a trip because trust me, something necessary will get lost and it will be late after moving and all you'll want is to get ready for bed. Take pictures before you move in and document any issues you discover so they can be repaired promptly. Although the units you saw look fairly new. Oh and I'm over here loving those big windows. Big windows are a must for me.
I've had some friends get really anxious about choosing the right apartment and I have too. The truth is that the lease usually only goes for a year, so unless there is something truly horrible about the unit, then you can decide if you want to continue living there or search for something else next year. Whenever you do decide to move again, it will be easier to look for apartments because you'll be closer and know the area better.
I’ve done this every time I’ve moved and it saves so much time: leave clothes on the hanger and tie a garbage bag around groups of 10-15 items (and save the garbage bags for later so they have two uses before they go to landfill)
A really great place I found in my apartment to store things was next to my washer and dryer! I have a stacked washer and dryer and skinny things like skis, broom, swifter ect. slide right next to it and has helped me out a lot since I don’t have a storage closet!
Ooo!! I am currently looking up apartments as well in Portland and I've been mainly looking at studios!! My guess for which unit you chose is unit 3 upper studio corner unit or unit 4 1 bed corner unit
Congrats on the new place! It is super overwhelming how many complexes there are here in PDX so when you finally narrow down to one you love in an area you'll like,, it's super rewarding. Spreadsheet is a strong move 🙌🏽🙌🏽
Thank you! I know it was never ending sorting through all the options! Everyone is moving here so I guess there are a ton of new buildings which is nice :)
Yay! Congrats on finding your apartment. I'm so excited for you and totally living vicariously through your moving journey while my life is on hold (tragic but we are all in this together!)
Love the tile in the kitchen and bathrooms of that building! hope you found the perfect choice for you 😍 really couldnt go too wrong (besides the closet space I felt that!!!)
Yeah! Congratulations!! 🙌🏻 I can't wait for the moving vlogs! I don't know how it is in the USA but in my country the guys from the moving company aren't always careful with your stuff, so if you have something fragile its best if you take it yourself (and obviously anything of value too). Also, write key words on the boxes so when you are unpacking you don't have to guess what each box has. Good luck with the move!! Stay safe! ❤
I feel the 2 bedroom may have been too expensive. The studios had no storage so I think they are out too. I reckon you went with a one bedroom in the end, that was a good compromise. As to which one I don't know :)
Yay I love apartment content. Just moved in June and one of the biggest helps was starting to pack very and not Taping boxes till night before! Also start saving boxes from online orders so you don’t have to buy as many
I'm moving into my first apartment this fall and it would be splendid if you made a video (or maybe you already did and I'm big dumb lol) about where to find the best furniture and tips and tricks for apartments in general!

Of course the first one looks amazing with the 2 bed/2 baths and huge kitchen which would be the winner for me... But out of the studios, i like Apartment 4... with the walk through bathroom and extra closet space👌.. BUT it all comes down to where you feel the safest. 💕
I’ve been watching your apartment videos for tips and tricks for apartment hunting. Some stuff I was unaware of, I’m learning as I go because moving is stressful but finding some place to move into is like juggling noodles. I’m a little over dramatic haha. If you search more places can you list the price please??? That would be helpful
I’m moving August 1 and looked at 2 apartments. The first one was old and gross. Second was clean and new and only rents to professionals as opposed to families or oil workers (I live in northern Alberta, Canada)
I personally like 3, 4 and 5! 3 is bigger than 2 and 1 I think is too much space- unless you used one of the rooms as an office 🤷♀️ but I like 5 the best because of love the angles and the views😍 it’s gorgeous! This is the first video I’ve seen of yours but I think you gained a new viewer❤️ I love moving vlogs and apartment/decor related videos! 🥰
I did look into that area and liked it a lot! There sadly just were not enough building options that checked all my boxes....I could totally see myself moving there in a few years though and working at OHSU...that would be my nursing dream 😂
My bf and I found you from your first apartment hunting video. We are/were also hoping to move to Portland. Your videos have been really helpful in that regard. I've heard that there is some unrest in Portland right now, and the cases of covid are much higher there than my home state. Do you feel safe there?
That’s so cool! I feel 100% safe but I also have not been doing a bunch of activities. I currently live in a different county that’s not the same as Portland and it has few cases, but of course a bigger county will have more cases! I think as long as you take precautions yourself and are smart about it then you will be okay 😊 best of luck with your decision, I hope you decide to make this beautiful city your home!
Hi Kiara! Just started watching your videos! I was wondering if you could speak on the protests currently happening in Portland in one of your videos. Spreading awareness about the occupation of feds in Portland is so important and I think you could do so much with your platform. Thank you! I’ve enjoyed your moving vlogs a lot 🤗
Being a property management professional in Pdx I can not stress enough this fact when it comes to reviews. Think of the majority of tenants or maybe even yourself how often are going to go out of your way to leave a good review about great service you get at your apt community. The minute they piss you off you will go out of your way to report them to every social media outlet you find to make sure everyone is as issued as you. In all my years of doing this I would say 9 out of 10 are just people pissed and wanting to vent, when it was something that they could’ve themselves fixed because they caused the issue or something they could have cleaned as a normal housekeeping routine, but they want someone to blame and management is always there to be the soundboard. My suggestion is to ask an unsolicited resident their opinion on how it is to live their. If the building you’re moving into has a coffee shop below it go in there and ask the workers how do the people who come in here feel about living in the apartments above they’ll tell you what residence are bitching about mostly. Also go to yelp to get reviews because they ask you days after you visited how do you feel about it and if people favorably reply to it that means that apartment community is so fresh in their head and some thing that is worth looking at. My main tip about any apartment community is this, how is the staff treating you during your tour and while you are searching out information about the community. if you walk in and the Leasing Agent is eating a sandwich or talking/ texting on phone and telling you to wait this is the service you’re going to get while living there for your lease term that you signed up for. If you have an intensive, engaging, genuine Leasing Agent 70% of the time you’re going to get good service while you’re there also just because they’re one of the big leasing companies does not mean they’re the best most cases they are not!! Mom and pop and smaller organizations are usually the best they have more time to spend on the residence.
Thank you so much for this helpful comment Mark! I definitely took some of these reviews with a grain of salt, because you can truly tell by the tone of someone's review what their intention was. We asked a few people who were walking around the building what their experience was, and you're right, their reviews were much more pure and generally positive. Thanks again for taking the time to right your suggestion out, I hope people take your advice 👍
I love you tip for me rent a U-Haul no matter how much stuff you have you will always need one like even if you have just like something you will always. Realize that you have more stuff than you thought that you had to pack so make sure to rent a big U-Haul because it’s 1,000,000% worth it I moved out of a tiny tiny living space and I rented a U-Haul and literally it changed the move experience it just made it 1 million times easier and also make sure to have some people helping you pack no matter how much stuff you have because it is always good to have a little help those are just my tips :)
It can be expensive....I was looking at newer buildings in some good areas, but I would say usually anywhere from $1,500-1,800 for a true one bedroom one bath in a nice spot :)
Kiara are u renting or buying? I’d really stay away from a studio unless it’s all u can afford. They are not good value for money and not the best investment
Oh my gosh, this literally made my day!! You are such an inspiration and I am so excited to see your new journey begin. Let the apartment designing begin!!!
I’m so glad you wore your mask in the video bc I feel like so many influencers don’t wear masks then try to claim they just took it off for the video/pic which defeats the point of the mask!!
I feel like you probably went for one of the 1 bedroom options lol those studios were pretty tight. I think it was smart that you ended up going for a building without amenities like a gym and lounge and all that. I live in a building like that right now and all the amenities are shut down because of Corona and I feel like I wasted a bunch of money. Plus when they were open there were always people who didn't respect the facilites and it was very annoying and management was always sending emails about people not following rules. That's just what my experience has been but yeah I think its better to not run the risk. Oops this comment was longer than intended but yeah. Very excited for you!! Good luck with your moving process ❤
That's such a good point! Plus in college I never really went to the gym bc I preferred taking actual classes that pushed me....probs won't do that for a LONG time anyways so I might as well not let that be the decision maker. Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
I’ve had to move a lot over the past year. I always hate having to pay for new boxes which I just end up recycling. I always waste so much money. I’ve started going to gas stations and restaurants that have the big cardboard recycle dumpsters and collecting boxes from there. The stores are always happy to donate the boxes. I was a little nervous doing that when I moved two weeks ago due to covid, but I just made sure to use a lot of hand sanitizer and let the boxes sit for two days before packing. The upside here are that it’s cheap, the boxes are smaller so they’re easy to carry, and the varying sizes make it easy to divide up your stuff.
That corner unit❤️ it seemed like it had a fair amount of storage too!! I am living vicariously through you! I got married at 23 so I was never on my own and I never went off to college so I never had that experience either. ❤️ My mom begged me to stay home and since I’m a sucker for my fam I went to college and lived at home. Anyways, I can’t wait for the videos to come!❤️
well I low key which I was married and knew I had a stable guy in my life 😂 We always want what we can't have lol. I'm super happy because this apartment is really close to my parents which is awesome too :)
Kiara Madisen Girl, I don’t know people survive off 1 income. We wouldn’t be able to do it. And that’s is so very true that we always want what we can’t have. I’m very grateful things turned out like they did. If I would have went off I wouldn’t of had the relationship I have with my family because I wanted to go to Auburn University and that is 4 hours from where I was raised. It all worked out though 😊
I think you are going to end up moving into the last apartment you showed with the corner view. I hope that when you move in to whatever apartment you choose it goes smoothly!!
Which apartment do you think I got.... 😏
Love the shape of that corner one bed one bath hope that was the winner! So happy for you girl!
I think you went with nr. 5 🖐 Because good lighting and big windows, a lot of storage and separate bedroom 🌻 But who knows 😅
I hope you did not get the studio, because it will smell like food all the time and your clothing will as well. Imagine if you try to make a grill food, all the smoke of oil will get stok and stink your bed. I lived 6 monts ago that situation, I was making my master degree. one of the one bedroom apartments. The studios just did not have the storage.
I’m so excited about the moving vlogs!

I would really recommend a declutter session because let me tell you the first apartment i moved into i had way too much junk.
so true...I will 100% be doing this.
Oh yeah, I second this. And allow yourself extra time because odds are you'll get distracted by discovering items you hadn't seen in a while. I was at my previous place for 6 years and you realize how you end up with more stuff than you should have.

Wrap your brakeables it your towels
Love that idea!!
Okay but where are your high waisted jean shorts from??
Princess Polly :)
That’s such a good point! Thanks for the advice 🥰

Kiara Madisen AWESOME! So excited! 💜
You should update the Q&A section of your description box to University of Oregon Grad instead of senior!
omg yes I must 😂
how much is the average 1bedroom rent in portland?
It can be expensive....I was looking at newer buildings in some good areas, but I would say usually anywhere from $1,500-1,800 for a true one bedroom one bath in a nice spot :)
I think you picked 4 or 5 :-) I would have picked one of those too.
Those were amazing 😍
FAV PAIR EVERRRR ❤️❤️❤️😊
Love ya!
apartment hunting is so so fun!! It's pretty time consuming but it's so worth it at the end!
So true!! So glad I found the one 😍
Congratulations 🎉
Thank you!! 💕
Kiara are u renting or buying? I’d really stay away from a studio unless it’s all u can afford. They are not good value for money and not the best investment
I’m renting :)
I love Doug!!! hahaha

Portland is The Fastest Growing areas in Oregon
Oh my gosh, this literally made my day!! You are such an inspiration and I am so excited to see your new journey begin. Let the apartment designing begin!!!
Aww yay!! Thank you so much for
Watching! 💗
I’m so glad you wore your mask in the video bc I feel like so many influencers don’t wear masks then try to claim they just took it off for the video/pic which defeats the point of the mask!!
I agree! honestly wearing the mask is really not that bad...plus now that I went mask shopping it's kinda fun....now you don't see my ugly chin 😂
Thanks so much for watching and commenting!
please kiara ❤️no change be like that you the best girl in america i hope 🤞 see you from noura in kuwait 🇰🇼 live

Aritzia :)
Wow! Saw my house in a shot 😂
Aww that’s so cool!!
I have a Dad Named Doug.
That’s a resourceful idea!! I’ve been saving a ton of my plastic bins and boxes so hopefully I have enough 😂
I am SO HYPED for this video!!!
me too! Hope you liked to 😊
same!!🌞
kiara, you're so pretty!
I love your editing style and your videos are so refreshing!
Aww thanks so much for watching! 💗
I love looking at apartments.com, zillow rentals, or rent.com. I have used apartment list before and I do like how they notify you of price drops.
Those are some great suggestions!
That one was super pretty 😍
@@KiaraMadisen I just watched your apartment tour + moving prep and I guessed it right!!
