    The real tragedy of this MSI will be when EG gets absolutely shit on, and 100T/TL fans flame Jojo and the rest of the team for “being useless”, pretending that it would be any different if their team had won LCS instead.

    While I agree with the sentiment about NA talent, one thing I feel like has become a talking point between the podcasts this week is that EG is pushing this narrative about NA talent. I felt like it is more the on air broadcasting and community that are forcing it more then the org itself. Yes they have to respond to it, but I don't feel like they've been making the choice to push it themselves as much as it seems.

    Your discussion about the importance of broadcasters are so true, I feel like they are actually legitimizing the game as an e-sport. A good shoutcaster can make any game intresting to watch. Riot should pay their peoples that are in the forefront of their e-sport scene and stop skimping out on streamers, shoutcasters, play-by-play and analysts. Also I feel like you can really see why big companies virtue signal only when it benefits them to follow trends and garner good boy points but as soon as it starts cutting into their profit they pull out instantly. They are not doing that out of kindness. So always question when a big corporations all of a sudden start campaigning for some cause or only sometimes actually enforce their own rules. It just suits them then.

    Playing for your country is viewed differently based on where you live and how important is that sport. In football (real one 😀), international events always have priority over leagues. Especially when they happen once very 4 years. It's somewhat hard for Americans to understand that maybe it's not everything about money.

    • @themgo35
      @themgo35 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      International events in football are a lot about money as well. Players get a shit ton of sponsoring deals and just exposure because of those events. Playing a good world cup is the best self-promotion you can do for your playing career. There are enough events in international football no one really cares about like Nations League, Confederation cup or football Olympics.

    10 years of Lcs is 2023 not 2022. First ever NALCS/EULCS season was spring 2013
    Edit: So that my wording is clear. Yes this is, technically speaking, the 10th year of competition BUT not even LCK celebrated it. LCK celebrated the anniversary year, because OGN Champions started in 2012 so, technically speaking, they're in their 11th year of competition. It's just must better for all involved to celebrate the anniversary because it's an easier sell and there would be 0 confusion about the wording because I guarantee people would be confused of a 10 year celebration happening on the mathematical 9th year.

      Cringe. We need the major region champions (4 teams) seeded into round 2 and then have a 2nd seed from the major regions who can play in group 1 with all the lower leagues and fight for the 4 spots remaining, 8 teams overall in round 2. Let them play vs the major regions but let them outperform the major regions 2nd best to have a shot at the prime part of the tourney.

      @@emceemikey Danny/Vulcan have lost lane to other worse bot lanes. Every international bot including VCS/PCS will hard gap them. They are very bad at laning in general. EG nacro is not good at all. It's that no one in NA can play properly. TL can't even snowball their large leads because Bwipo is running it or Bjergsen is too busy playing KDA. I think individually EGs roster will level up a ton before msi because na teams usually do. Impact is still one of the best top laners in the world and always does well in international games. @@emceemikey T1 isn’t the only threat. If you want international success losing lane every game in bot is a huge liability for EG. And the games EG played against TL were not stomps. Game 1 and 2 were really close and could have gone both ways even with the draft edge EG had both games. Danny and vulcan have to step up during laning phase. Their teammates wont be able to help them as much as they did in LCS against the major league teams. T1 RNG G2 all have a rly strong topside and solid laners. I believe that at the highest level of play, laning is more important than teamfighting thats why i have more hope for jojo than EG botlane for msi. Jojo showed really good laning and looked like the best laner in LCS. It doesn’t matter how good you are at teamfighting if your adc is 2k gold behind after laning phase you’re going to lose the fights against top teams. I believe that EG performance at MSI will heavily depend on their botlane’s laning phase.

Seems weirdly coincidental he'd value that stuff over LCS finals with the Upset thing going on, maybe that's a convenient excuse, maybe he's too stupid to even come up with that and I'm giving him too much slack. In trying to compare eSport and motivating Riot to treat LOL like normal sports, you have also completely lost sight of the same flaws in the sports you mention. For example, in the NHL, one could argue that by demanding players stay with Franchises, you are essentially saying Money is more important than the sport. Which you just happened to rail against in the discussion about the LPL, China and MSI. This is the inherent flaw in ALL sports. Money is more important than sport. Be that the Olympics (the corrupt IOC), Football (FIFA, UEFA and the super clubs), NFL (Owners moving franchises), NBA (being beholden to China)...all flawed because of money.

    The NHL is a really bad example, because... well... they are the American League, that is doing the worst... why? Well... maybe, because they ruin their big, free promotional event by not sending their best players.
    For context: Here in Europe, there was one major event, that kick-started the growth of Basketball: The Dreamteam playing in the Olympics in Barcelona in 92. Many of the European Stars of the 00er years like Nowitzki and the Gasol brothers always mention this event.
    And the NBA started their 2021 season really early, so their Finals would be done before the Olympics, because they could send their best players... and, of course, you don't want to compete with the biggest sports event in the World for viewership.
    We, as an esports community, should be excited, that League of Legends is considered an Olympic sport event by the Asian Olympic Committee. In Germany, we are still years away from that acceptance. Getting it would be huge.
    And since Monte and Thorin talk about this "they should treat it like real sport" thing: here is some breaking news: Every sport league except the NHL plans in free time for big national team competition. (Oh and the NFL, but that sport might be too complex for national teams...) Now club managers in Soccer complain about it, but that is just, because they are too ignorant to acknowledge, what a big part the World Cup played in growing the sport to its enormous status in the world...

Namei was better than him D) He was never propped as the best adc player in his rookie years because he power ints, His always being played around playstyle was seen as a negative. E) they only changed they opinion on UZi after proving that he doesn't choke teamfights. Danny played teamfights well, hes clearly good but he's power inting lane which Uzi was criticized for as well (terrible positioning in team fights). Unless Danny polishes his Laning phase then he isn't the best player at all in his team. IMPACT and Inspired held on every single time to get to team fights, Similarly Xiaohu had the same reputation in UZis earlier days, Xiaohu is the spring split tiger. Casuals don't remember how good Xiaohu is as Perkz clapped him but he was never Chinas mid table mids, he's always elite level because he knows how to play around UZI. UZi was also the clear cut best ADC in the league in every aspect unless he limit tests, Danny is not head and shoulders above Hans sama which Uzi was to everyone. People also learned from UZi, about 60% of Chinese Adcs are Uzi subs, Danny will take a bit more to reach that stature.

    About RNG playing on higher ping. I believe RNG has shown intention to skip MSI, and Riot decided to work with RNG instead of finding replacement like how they did it in S10 for Vietnamese team. I mean the way they represented the situation in this video is EXTREMELY disingenuous... DL said on his podcast the memes were funny, that's it. Then Upset's wife felt the need to finally come clean about it (not quite sure why the off-handed remark of "those memes are funny" was what finally prompted it; but that's neither here nor there) - at which point DL said "she's just butthurt" (regarding her twitter responses). He later clarified that he didn't read her twitter correctly (which you can take that as you will) when he first made the follow up comments, then said specifically that now that the reason behind the scenario is known the memes are no longer funny. You can't retroactively say "Ah yes, DL didn't know the situation but him saying funny memes means he was laughing at the abuse" .
