I think it's a bit disingenuous to say that the source of the 30% drop in watch rate in western viewers is from the format or having 35 ping to accommodate RNG. I think the biggest reason to explain the drop in viewers is the fact that it's held in S. Korea, and not iceland. When matches start at 3AM+, you're going to lose a lot of vierwership from the Americas and Europe.
The viewership number includes both eastern and western viewers excluding China. While you lose western viewers, you gain eastern viewers. And LCK spring 2022 got the highest peak viewers! So I doubt the timezone is the main issue here.
@@rocketpower3957 Eastern viewers is LJL, LCK, SEA (garena servers) and LCO. From the perusing that I've done, the player base overall is much much smaller in total from these servers than in EU and Turkey (who usually watch the first half of the day), the players from servers in the Americas (who can catch the tail end of the games) assuming said people are following a reasonable sleep schedule. You're cutting the viewership in half from a massive part of the total player base sans China. Hence the 30% decrease in part makes sense. As a footnote, we're still only 1 week into the event, so it's too early to tell how the viewership will pan out at the end.
With regards to the ping issue, did it also affect the fog? One thing you notice with ping is that when you uncover fog, stuff in the fog doesn't appear instantly. Yeah, I would've preferred 100T or TL at this tournament... Inspired (and Impact to a lesser degree) carried the shit out of EG in the LCS playoffs. I could give excuses for 100T, but in the end, the EU MVP dragged his team kicking and screaming to MSI, and now EG as a whole have been massively exposed.
Major Server Issues is an annual tournament put on by Tencent through Riot Games. It’s most well known for robbing fans of great match ups and having every group end with a perfect record team.
I think one thing we always forget when it comes to match format is the time restrains. All international teams are allowed to be in the country around 3 weeks to 1 month max (and they have to rush back to prepare for summer splits). That's why I think, though it's unfair to do BO1 when you have strong teams playing against each other, it unfortunately the only thing RIOT can do within the limited time range
CSGO and Dota matches are a similar length to LoL and they manage better formats on LAN. It's not like Riot are the only company that have to operate within these constraints, there are options available they just don't want to do them.
The funny thing is in league of legends the best player of all time actually has been overrated. For years it didn't matter what he played like, which players looked like they were in better form than him. Faker would be 1-5 on every list of top players leading into worlds.
Is there any reason why we don't have WIldcards (in true sense of that word) , I remamber that In Starcraft 2 there were spots for in some tournaments where Just random players could compete for these and you had some , that came out of of these pre-games to make deep runs into the real tournament. Majority of these games weren't shown , if any were shown... but that was so good for story purposes. I Imagine Kcorp , taking on g2 and actually taking off games of them. Or T1 academy or something like that
MonteCristo should have asked me... I watched this shitshow... for exactly the right reasons: I wanted to see, how the minor regions are developing. Now these results were still rather disturbing, since all the minor regions (Including EG, compared to G2) took major steps backwards compared to last seasons, where DFM really looked competitive... But yeah, the question, whether the 2nd VCS Team can beat NAs first seed, is all there is left in this tournament... Just for comparison: Last year around this time, C9 after the first round robin had to beat Damwon and hope for DFM to lose to Infinty, to avoid tiebreakers... and we all know, how well NA does in Tiebreakers... The only team, that went 8-0, was RNG. No team won 0 games... Riot expected more of this. No one expected the gap to widen as much, as it did. The minor regions have to figure out, how and why this happened... Or as another example: Last year, Istanbul Wildcards beat Mad Lions... this year, they didn't come close to challenging PSG.
Why did they get rid of the Battle of the Atlantic again? I feel like a lot of league consumers would watch something similar these days. Could do the same with China vs Korea. That must generate a lot of viewership, no?
Iirc, Battle of the Atlantic was during offseason between Worlds and Spring, so teams probably didn't want to go and I'm pretty sure it didn't last beyond 1 event. Rift Rivals was canceled because NA and EU fans/players complained and weren't interested, despite KR and CN being balls to the wall all-in on winning their Rift Rival event (And Flash Wolves would carry LMS as far as they could lol.)
So... I def understand Thorin's point about the 20-0 run but I dont think he watched a lot of those series. They were literally experimenting w drafts, loss a game and then absolutely stomp the next game. Like sub-25 min stomp. And as good as those teams G2 beat... they would get smoked by GenG and DwG. The only legit single game losses were Canyon and Chovy super carries. And those 2 r goats.
3:08:15 For those who are curious as to why brazillians equate the number 24 to being gay, it's because in Brazil there's a illegal gambling game which is played with numbers from 01 to 25, and each of those numbers is represented by an animal. The animal that represents 24 is a "deer" or in portuguese "veado" which has been used historically as an homophobic slur, even tho not to the same degree of severity as the "F word" is used in the US. PS: To be fair tho, "veado" is also often used as an endearing term among friends, so yeah.

Not to pile on or anything but I haven't watched the games and I'm not even watching the CSGO Major yet either. The fact it's a shit format now featuring shit latency and only a couple teams worth watching... I don't even know what the point of this is. I mean, can someone explain it to me like I'm five years old? Why would you host an international tournament with almost nothing worth watching? Make it 2 NA teams, 2 EU teams, 3 or 4 LCK and 3 or 4 LPL teams in a good format and at least it wouldn't feel like a waste of time. We'd get a bigger sample size of matches between regions and narratives could carry over to Worlds. As is, this is a complete miss.
All this talk about ping has been really interesting. I'd already heard people say things like "its illegal to play leesin on more than 20 ping" and being from a city that has 65 ping to my server, its actually so disheartening to think one of the steps towards competing at the highest level would be to move closer to the server.

I don’t necessarily agree with the “this is not a sport, it’s a marketing venture.” Well I agree with that, but I feel like the comparison to real sports is being made as if League is different from real sports in this aspect. Every professional sport is money/viewership first. A few years ago Dortmund’s team bus was blown up by bomber and a few players were injured while traveling to a game. They were told they had to play the game that was canceled the next day because of money. Christian Eriksen went into cardiac arrest during a game. The game was suspended/paused. The players on his team were told they either replay the game within the next 24 hours, or they forfeit. Because of money…

My dude check how many matches have been played in the PGL Major that's going on right now, and the timeframe.
Or T1 academy or something like that
Spotifiy please lads
Lemony snicket taught me denouement
Omg thorin mentioning this being on brand for american sponsors reminded me of the cnn ukraine applebees meme so bad rofl

@@andrewhibbard7406 Thank you brother
As a Brazilian, I can say you are 100% right on what you guys said. Well done! lol
Would be interesting to see what Faker’s dmg/gold looks like
Daaaaamn ya boy Thorin is looking slick as fuck!!!!! 🔥
I think mid-season invitational is so prestigious
EUW Berlin is at max 20 not 35 unless your home connection sucks
Hey Monte & Thorin team, cannot find this episode on Google Podcast. Please help :)
Correct.

Bags of frozen mixed veg usually retain more nutrients than fresh supermarket veg, if you cook it with extra virgin olive oil & seasoning it's delicious.
... cheap yet healthy food made delicious.
nice haircut thorin
1:29:09 well after this mornings skt vs eg game this didn't age well. Guess the argument could be inferred that Monte is saying skt isn't a good team? 🤔
Its sad that escore esports will rip it off your content in to their shitty videos, because its really good. Btw is there a dota 2 thorin or something? Since lol is business not a sport, would like to start following dota2 instead of lol. Lol could be such an awesome esport if done right.
Why not call MSI the Tournament of Champions?
I’m glad to know that even thorin is enjoying the jankos and plumy clips over msi itself lmao 😂
Monte talking about his blacklist reminds me of what happened in Pokemon. The Pokemon Company has shut me out because I *checks notes* proved Tournament Officials were covering up 90% of tournament finalists cheating. Meanwhile people disparaging the developers, pirating the game, and hacking the games receive care packages.
Sorry this happened to you!

I play with 9 to 15 ping on euw and stuck in dia 4 kekw
Video on Spotify. Bye YT
All this talk about ping has been really interesting. I'd already heard people say things like "its illegal to play leesin on more than 20 ping" and being from a city that has 65 ping to my server, its actually so disheartening to think one of the steps towards competing at the highest level would be to move closer to the server.
How did the betting sites that sponsor you handle the RNG replayed games ?
MSI is so bad it’s going to make T1 worse. We might see an RNG-esque slump at the beginning of summer after practicing against shitters for a whole month
I'd watch a cooking show with Monte for sure.
Thorin hair 😍
Ok as a Brazilian, I'm shocked Thorin knows about the number 24 bs hahahaha Though I haven't heard people take that seriously since I was in high school, which makes me wonder how old and how fragile those men are
2:00:15 Regi is actually Gaunter O'Dimm, technically he just bends the rules to his will
youtube full of adds now time to change again.
Let’s Goat
TL was easily the biggest failure in LCS history and no one is even talking about it. Bjergsen fan girls are too strong lol
"I think the local fans want to see that" well, to be completely honest, I'm not a fan of seeing RED just get absolutely blasted by RNG, and three times at that. I'd rather see them play more games against other minor regions so that we can shit talk the turkish or the boludos next door for a few months before the next int championship (or have them shit talk us, Idc, it's fun). Having major regions play against every single minor region is just disheartening
boludo here, agree with you.
btw LLA is a fucking fiasco lmfao I swear it was better when it was LAS vs LAN. We could have a local-international BR vs LAS tourney or sth. instead of MSI and it'd be better.
Side note: ITS FUCKING MORONIC THAT MAO'KAI ISNT PLAYED. LITERALLY EVERY ABILITY HE HAS IS A FORM OF CC. Q,W,R ALL DISPLACE/ROOT AND THE E SLOWS. IT MAKES NO SENSE TEAMS ARE NOT PLAYING THIS CHAMP. CC WINS GAMES.
