    To the guy who asked how to get a liberal arts education without going to college, here is a reading list compiled from my college syllabuses of my English degree (heavily England/France-centric, not comprehensive):
    Old English-Middle English texts: Beowulf, Dream of the Rood, Canterbury Tales, Julian of Norwich + Book of Margery Kempe (religious)
    Early Modern English-Modern English: The Faerie Queene, A lot of Shakespeare (Macbeth, Hamlet, Romeo and Juliet, Merchant of Venice, Othello, The Tempest, Twelfth Night + Sonnet 73 would be my recommendations).
    Modernity (1600-Present): Paradise Lost (Milton), Two Treatises on Government (Locke), Wealth of Nations (Smith), Critique of Practical Reason (Kant), Either/Or + The Concept of Anxiety (Kierkegaard), The Wasteland (Eliot), To the lighthouse (Woolf), The heart is a lonely hunter (McCullers), The Stranger + The Myth of Sisyphus (Camus), the Autobiography of Malcolm X, The Wretched of the Earth (Fanon), Notes of a Native Son (Baldwin), The Need for Roots (Weil), The World Doesn't End (Simic), Gender Trouble (Butler), Of Grammatology (Derrida, only if you hate yourself), The Second Sex (Beauvoir), Rerum Novarum + Laborem Exercens + Centesimus Annus (Vatican), A Secular Age (Taylor, only if you hate yourself)

    If LCS stopped getting ass chapped about not being good enough to beat the top 3 major regions and focused on a rivalry with LJL or even the PCS, the games will be more competitive and actually fun to watch.
    Kinda like how in international soccer (yeah it’s called football I know) we have crappy teams like the US and Mexico always qualify but never make it far, the matches still bring in thousands of fans in attendance just because of the common skill level and rivalry.
    If NA focused less on being the best major region and focused on its dominance as a minor region, at least in a fans perspective the outlook won’t be so damn pessimistic. Idk. But rinse and repeating getting swept in international best of 3s/5s is getting old.

      The issue is that everyone involved in the LCS will never be able to separate their expectations from reality due to the sheer amount of money being poured into the teams. They spend money as if they were a major region and therefore expect to be a major region despite the results saying otherwise.

    • @Thundawich
      @Thundawich 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If NA focused on being the best major region it would be fine, but they don't. None of the players/teams are trying to win worlds because they just expect to lose to the big 3.

    2:49:46 Great discussion there and on point. if someone wants to watch a nice video why modern RTS is in the state is in i'd recommend a video by GiantGrantGames called "The Next Major RTS Will Fail. This Is Why.
    " a few months back. he came to similar conclusion that one of the biggest reasons RTS were popular back in the day was user generated content. And nowadays they either dont have that at all or publishers make it so unappealing (cough W3 Reforged cough) that the people with creative ideas simply go to other games (such as Garry's Mod, Minecraft and especially Roblox) and create their stuff there.

    2:27:32 I don't agree to make discipline the opposite of work/life balance and mental health. You can be disciplined and still look out for yourself. Yes Michael Jordan was showing certain behaviour and was mad successful (with the Bulls mostly) and I am sure that everyone who wants to reach the top of the top or achieve a certain level above the limit have a drive and willingness to sacrifice (at least to a certain degree) but you can still be driven and not be an asshole. Those, in my opinion, are not mutually exclusive.

  • @seamonster175
    @seamonster175 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    The solution to the major minor region thing is so simple to me and riot already does it for msi.
    Tier 1: LCK, LPL, LEC
    Tier 2: LCS, VCS, PCS
    Tier 3 and 4: everyone else
    Tiering can be based on last 4 International performances or last 2 years so regions can move up and down.
    Tier 1 teams: 2 import slots from any tier
    Tier 2 teams: 2 import slots from any tier and 1 import slot from Tier 2 and below
    Etc etc.
    Yes there is a world where a teams like 100t construct a roster that is legal one year but then not the next. Only change the tierings between seasons, teams know ahead of time to start making roster decisions based on what Tier they are. 100t is the first team to not change a single member between seasons in a long time

    I just wanna appreciate Monte asking interesting questions to Nelson. Really fun episode, especially Nelson flaming western toplaners but don't forget Western junglers, are getting gapped just as hard internationally. What Oner did to Jankos...was nsfw. I think I didn't even see Jankos in that T1 vs G2 semis, Jankos was ready to go home as Oner/Zeus wrecked G2. Not even T1 fan, but Oner is on his second year (just like Canyon won Worlds on his 2nd year), has higher potential/way scarier than Jankos who people consider best jungler in the West. G2 is a good LEC team, but not Worlds winner potential. G2 2022 is just slightly better version of G2 2016-2018, with one superstar carry threat.

    • @zurashubitidze4765
      @zurashubitidze4765 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Top gapp has always been the biggest historically. Jankos isn't as good as Oner maybe, but he was also playing with significantly worse Top/Bot so that does make the game much harder for Jungler

    • @triplea3005
      @triplea3005 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I understand that oner looked way better then jankos but jankos is a dog jungler which mean if his laners does bad he will look way worse then normal he will give everything up for his laners to have better lanning phases and that why I love him as a jungler but it’s has it downside where if ur laner can’t do anything u look like a ant

    • @davidsato7898
      @davidsato7898 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I see jungling since S10 in Pro Play as an additional support most of the time, of course there are some carries that see play, but most of the time their role is supporting the lanes and giving vision, also almost always they stop farming after 15 min to give more resources to their laners, so I cant blame Jankos given the massive gap that existed in top and bot.

    Man its so stressful to watch Nelson trying to imply that "LEC players are so under-practiced against good opponents therefore they suck" while trying to be not so straightforward as to not attract too much drama.
    Get rid of the BO1 format, double the games played each season, get more scrims with LPL and LCK, and introduce double elimination into the playoffs. Thats how you produce battle-hardened players who can actually compete on Worlds.

    Art is subjective, no matter what aspect you try to objectively quantify or judge, you end up with opinion or an arbitrary standard. Arbitrary in this context means the choice of it is subjective. Bad writing in the artistic aspect is to you, writing that you do not like. We humans tend to like similar things but that doesn’t make the preference not arbitrary and subjective. It just is.

  • @rowan2828
    @rowan2828 2 ปีที่แล้ว +5

    I think the LCS's main problem is that there has been very little caster/talent turnover and it has led to the entire broadcast team being over 30 but then they are still trying to copy the LEC's content. The LEC content is more interesting because these are generally younger, more creative, more interesting talent that is given more creative freedom to actually make good content. LCS feels like some old monopoly man is shouting orders from a throne and a bunch of 30-40 year old run around saying this is what the yutes want to see no cap on god, im str8 bussin out here. As much as I miss deficio, Joe miller and Deman them leaving lead to other people coming in like Krepo, Caedrel, Drakos, Medi, Vedi - which may have never happened if all the old guard just stayed with their comfortable jobs and did LEC for 10 years like what has happened in LCS. I'm just not interested in watching Phreak and Azael cast another game personally, I'd rather watch Sneaky and Meteos or someone who's not a boomer get a chance to cast/analyze LCS - but instead they just ban costreamers and don't integrate the talent who actually had a growing audience.

    • @Sawyer300100

      This man says he wants Sneaky/Meteos on an official broadcast over Phreak Azael. BAD take jesus fucking christ man.
      Yeah the LCS has had the same casters for years, they've sprinkled people in here and there. They don't have 10 other english broadcast to pull from. LEC has pulled from LPL and all of their Minor leagues.
      NA Academy has like 5? Casters. 2-3 are good enough for broadcast and should get a shot, but then they have nobody to cast those games man.

      @Sawyer300100 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Original_Taylor Phreak has been mentioned on this show and in many other places as being difficult to work with. So not shocked there isn't much talent to pull from. LCS viewership continues to spiral while sticking with shit content and same old boring casters. So based on everything you said I guess everyone should give up and move on

    • @rowan2828
      @rowan2828 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@Original_Taylor Didn't say they would be immediately better, but why not try and integrate former pro players who have a natural talent for being on camera or have a good brand/personality?
      It's wild that Dom had to go to China to get a casting opportunity when LCS could have easily had him work for them. LCS could easily pull casters from ERL's, LPL or any other broadcast if they want, or they could use their existing pro players/talent.
      Look at Caedrel and Broxah who are currently working with LEC. Also LEC usually brings on pro players a lot more to share their insight. It's not all about talent, it's about how it's used and the LCS production team has failed time after time to properly use their talent. The numbers don't lie, the LCS is dying because they have failed to recruit young talent, showcase their players and league and create an entertaining broadcast.
      I would rather watch the LEC analyst desk than most LCS games to be honest and I used to watch LCS way more than EU LCS back in the day. Nobody wants to watch Letigress play beer pong and chat awkwardly with a bunch of kids who've probably never been to a party or played beer pong in their lives.

    I disagree with the idea that the best sports franchises are the ones that can detach themselves and make upgrades even if they win the world championship. Short term, I think there are merits to the idea. Long term, being able to present yourself as an org that will provide job security as long as you can put up the results they are looking for is better imo. You can bring imports and other players that will give their all so they can keep their jobs, rather than being worried that an "upgrade" import becomes available despite giving your all to win.
    Jensen this year is a good example. Do you think Jensen would ever consider or recommend going to TL to anyone after how he performed well at worlds and then got dropped like a brick? Compare that to even Huhi, who probably won't be cut until after playoffs at least despite maybe being the right choice, because 100T wants to see if they can get it together again and get the results they've gotten twice now. I'd bet a fair amount Huhi is far more likely to recommend 100T despite being cut from the team before.
    I'd rather sign 100T. Any sane person would, especially a sane NA RESIDENT who is worried about international names taking their job no matter how well they play because of those perceived "international upgrades" that come over and shit on NA for a split before becoming NA themselves.
    You can say they did the same thing with Abbe, but it was pretty obvious by that point that they gave Ryoma way too many chances (using their academy pipeline btw) and that things were so obviously not working, so the comparison isn't fair.

      The idea was that if a player thats giving it his all isnt as good as you need him to be you are wiling to change him even if he is a loyal player that has been whit the team for a long time. Also even if you win a tornament whit some one, that person might have not contributed as much as he had to and you shoud not be afraid to replace him.

      100thieves Darshan, 100thieves Kaori if minor regions come in, abbe is good enough for NA, just that other Eu mids beat him.

    Why does every podcast say “everyone wants NA talent”? Nobody cares where they’re from as long as they’re winning! Stop talking about NA talent, nobody cares!

    36:30 Am I missing something? Why would other regions accept that NA want to arbitralry prompt themselves up? Why does NA has a right to decide on a whim how the scene should look like? Are other regions allowed to change the global rules towards their needs?
    Also, I know Monte and Thorin don't really care about the competition between regions, they just want to watch good league of legends. Regardless of that though, the competitive scene from the beginning was built upon the narrative of inter-regional rivalry. So how would that hold any significance if NA could potentially get all their talent outside of the region. I don't know how you could possibly call that region "NA" at that point. That's just ridiculous.
    Oh, and spare me those excuses of "protecting the investment"; american owners just incorrectly gauged the NA scene and the long-term interest of fans, so of course they should lose their money. Maybe then the self-centered NA finally end as a irrelevant region as they should be.

    • @SemmmmProductions
      @SemmmmProductions 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It’s the ambiguity of it ofcourse. Because it’s ‘open to all regions’ nobody technically gets an unfair advantage although we all know that the only major region that would want to field a full import roster would be NA
