    HOW TO PAINT IRONJAWZ
    ------------------------------------------
    The fifth episode in an ongoing series where I paint all the warbands for Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire.
    In this episode I paint the Orruk Ironjawz warband "Ironskullz Boyz" in their distinctive Yellow Armour.

    ------------------------------------------
    I reference "Armour Wash" a lot in this series of videos. This is just a mix of GW washes that I have mixed up in a spare pot. the recipe for making your own is below. You can if you want just use Nuln Oil and I won't judge.
    3xNuln Oil
    2xAgrax Earthshade
    1xDrakenhoff Nightshade

    Using the preshading technique in this video on my Ironjawz army got me started on painting full units to a higher standard than I ever had. Then I got the motivation to add extra details like freehand and weathering/rust since I had put more effort into the base coats. I ended up winning best painted out of 35 armies at my first major gaming tournament thanks to the improvements to my painting that began with this video. Thank you.

    Very smart to add water to the model before you shade it so it goes strait to the recesses 👌

      If you don’t mind a glossier finish (or you plan to use matte varnish) Pledge Finish floor polish will take away the chance of white spots that you can get from using water and shade together.

    Hey Rob I have a question.
    Want to paint purple armor on my Orrucks. Can i make it more vibrant and popping by going the other way arround then in your tutorial here: base yellow and build purple up from it?
    Great vids all around, tested out the skin tones on my Reavers and waiting for the tutorials for the Dwarves and Skaven. Hoping that they are out of the ordinary. Planning to paint my own Skaven as Roman Legionaries.
    Thanks!!

    Im by no means an expert painter, shit I havent painted a figure in damn near three years. Even when I was at my best I still considered myself a novice (cause I really was). Ive watched countless videos on how to paint and what not so eventhough I might not know how to apply the techniques I atleast know of them. So as I was watching your video I was judging like crazy. I was all like why would he do that? That seems like a waste of paint! But then I saw the final product and I remembered that I needed to stfu and learn. Awesome work dude.

  • @visuellegedanken

    I see you often use the Shade as the last “layer” which is in contrast to what Games Workshop is advertising but I will try that out. If you have more thoughts/tips on this I’m very interested to hear. Thanks for the awesome tutorial.

    • @RobPaintsModels
      @RobPaintsModels  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      GW assumes you will slap the shade on with a giant brush in an uncontrolled way that leaves huge pools of it all over the model. I don't do that. I apply shades carefully with a relatively small brush and make sure to clean up any areas of pooling before they become a problem. When done this way shades work really well to create blend one colour into another so why would I want to ruin that with another layer of paint over the top?

  • @Joybz
    @Joybz 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    I'm wanting to do a smiliar effect but using orange rather than yellow.. What should I use for the shadows? You have used pink and mentioned it is used because its opposite yellow on a colour wheel but I've checked a few and it doesn't seem to be opposite which is throwing off the choice for me using orange. Would you go with purple or blue?

  • @MSU117MAD

    Is the lamenters yellow base necessary for the orc skin to achieve final color or merely over spray from fast airbrush for other areas. If i were painting savage orcs with little to no armor would you base coat yellow before doing your base green layer Catellian and gradual mix of Cadian Fleshtone? I realize it is fairly easy to just say no you can just start from green but i am genuinely curious is the yellow has an affect or is the Catellian so opaque after 2 layers it would be negligible to start with yellow?

    • @RobPaintsModels
      @RobPaintsModels  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      The yellow has no effect as you want a completely opaque green base.

    how or what made you do the pink before the yellow? what do i need to study to learn this to adapt to the colours i will be using ( deathguard ) am i correct in thinking its the opposites on the colour wheel ?

    • @RobPaintsModels
      @RobPaintsModels  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's roughly the theory. Exact opposite would be purple (the shade colour) and would lead to shadows that are more neutral in tone. I went with a magenta which is a warmer hue and therefore gives warmer shadows.
