    I was struggling to decide what armour colour scheme to go for until I watched this video. I instantly knew this was the scheme to go for! Great video and even greater paint job

    Great job. I'm really liking these new Orcs (Orruks); they look a lot meaner and more brutish than some of the previous Orc miniatures which were starting to get a bit too comedic for me. Its interesting to see someone else using the technique of adding texture to areas with the paint since I haven't run into many other people who do but I find that, especially after a wash to help soften and blend the colors, it can really add a lot of visual interest to the miniature. The color combination you used for the armor reminded me almost of warpstone or some other type of rock/gem which was a very cool effect. All in all, he looks like he means to seriously ruin someone's day. Watching just this video convinced me to subscribe.

      Awesome thanks for subscribing and glad you enjoyed the tutorial. I generally add more texture where I can and like you say, adding the thin washes helps blend the tones together again. -Sam

    Great video! Been loving painting these guys and using your video for pointers. I did have a question though. Are you sure that's Death World Forest as the base? Looks much much brighter that death world forest (which is an olive drab). Could just be your light I suppose. Any way keep up the good work. Thanks!

    • @Metabreakers
      @Metabreakers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      It is a nice scheme, I opted for pure black for my own purely because of the speed of painting black and sponging the highlights on but this one is certainly unique and looks great (just takes a while longer with the highlighting step!) -Sam

      ok so bought the paints. Thinking I'll add some cool white tribal shapes to the armor as well. Hope to god I don't screw up the edge highlighting. Going to take a lot of time, but worth it.

    I FINALLY got around to painting my 'ardboys, and assembling the Brutes. Figured I'll do these guys first, then the Gore-gruntas (which are going to be tough x_x). I saw a good painting vid on common mistakes, one of which being not to go to crazy on units, and spend way to much time on them. Still want them to look decent, just dont go overboard, which has always been my problem as I'd burn myself out. Not going to make that mistake again, going to finish these guys!
    P.S...Jeez these things are tough to assemble!

    • @Metabreakers
      @Metabreakers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      They were a little awkward, the 'ardboys in particular are older models and I decided to make it more challenging by converting them with brute heads and arms to mix them up.... not recommended! The Brutes and Gore-gruntas however were great to build and really look amazing.
      I did a video on painting up my goregruntas on the website but it's premium only, I tried to keep the colour scheme as limited as possible. Doing all basecoats and then 1 wash which shaded all colours in one go and then highlighting afterwards really speeds things up. I also chose a black, battered armour rather than edge highlighting it all as it sped up the paint job again so it does help to really think about the painting process before starting it. ( I tend to spend way too much planning the scheme and should just get on with it however).
      Post up any progress on the facebook group when you get them done or email them over to me samwise@wargameronline.com would love to see more Orruks! -Sam

    This is one of the best tutorials i've seen. Alot of others skip parts that i think are really important, like they show you how they did the face and not the large flat(ish) muscled areas like the back and arms. Also love the scheme you used. I've done my ironjawz armour using stegadon green but the highlights are lighter blue instead if green. Great vid!

      Thanks for the comment and for watching. I try to include as much as possible in my tutorials as possible without making them too long and I'm glad it works for you. Stegadon green is really close to incubi, really nice colours mate :) -Sam

    Amazing work!
    I have a few questions, as someone looking to pick this hobby up again after 10 years. The list of paints is a bit daunting for my student wallet.
    Would it be possible to cut out maybe one of the greens and "wash" with just Athonian camoshade to cut down on painting expenses and still get a decent result? Also, for the classic Black Orc armor look (the metallic black) what paints would you suggest?
    Sorry if these are stupid questions but I'm clueless at this :/

    • @Metabreakers
      @Metabreakers  6 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      For any of the tutorials I do you could cut them down even more. A basecoat and a wash is more than enough to make a model look good and you could always go back and add additional layers or highlights as far as you wish. For the metallic black armour you could go with a silver base and then wash with blacks to get a dark silver look. The other option is to paint the armour black and then sponge silver on as damage - Sam

    • @Dasspapirfly
      @Dasspapirfly 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the reply, I guess it's a bad idea to aim for perfection from the start. I think I'll go ahead and get 3-4 paints and just experiment. That way I can get an idea if this is something I want to carry on doing and I can then scale it up at my own leisure.
      Cheers ;)

    • @Metabreakers
      @Metabreakers  7 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Tag us on twitter @aosmetabreakers with a picture and I'd be happy to help. Otherwise in general you could try a wash of a darker colour even something like nuln oil to take away too much blue saturation.

    This was great! One question tho, as you put the blood on here, do you not varnish them later? I don't really see the need to but everyone keeps telling me it's essential.

    • @Metabreakers
      @Metabreakers  7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I always varnish and then add blood effects later afterwards if the model will be used for gaming. Generally just get all your painting done and anything you want glossy leave until you have varnished and go back in. Slime, blood, glistening mouths etc or snow bases and ice. Hope that helps -Sam

    • @Metabreakers

      Cesar Rojas it's just a piece of cork, if you go to the basics playlist there is a video on pinning to cork that's worth watching. You can pick them up off eBay or a wine merchant fairly cheap, I pay about £5 for 20-50 and you want tapered ones if possible so they don't fall over -Sam

  • @davea.9927
    @davea.9927 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    So I just got the required paints, and a "Starting Ironjawz" box. My only concern is the flatter surfaces of the 'Ardboys, and that the mixture nuln oil+Angrax to darken the Stegadon Scale Green wont take. Have you had any problems with that?

    • @Metabreakers
      @Metabreakers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Mix lahmian medium into any washes and they flow much better over flatter surfaces, you also don't end up with the water marks when the washes dry like you do if not thinning the wash with medium. -Sam

    Are you using water to thin down your paints?

    • @Metabreakers
      @Metabreakers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      Albycad Gaming cheers! I use water or medium normally at a 1:1 mix but sometimes thinner if it's a thicker paint, lahmian medium helps keep the pigment in the paint but water is fine -Sam

  • @avoidconfusion
    @avoidconfusion 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    What kind of Brushes do you guys use?

    • @Metabreakers
      @Metabreakers  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      I use a mixture, mostly Games Workshop as they are cheaper and I tend to find the medium layer is amazing for most of the painting work.
      Broken Brushes is another excellent range and they work very well and at an affordable price.
      My favourite brush is still probably the GW Artificer brush, I haven't found anything better and although it is expensive, it is invaluable for edge highlighting.
      The range I have a few of are the Winsor & Newton Series 7, they are very high quality brushes at the highest price range but they are really really good. Don't get the 'miniature series 7' brushes as the body of the brush is too small for miniature painting but the standard set are very very good.
      Hope this helped -Sam

    can I just use nuln oil to go over the armour?

    • @Metabreakers
      @Metabreakers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A7X Disturbed if it's after you have highlighted I would add medium into nuln so it doesn't leave nasty marks and flows into the recesses better -Sam

    • @cDisturbed.
      @cDisturbed. 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      WargamerOnline so mix the two washes together? I'm new to warhammer and painting 😭

    • @Metabreakers
      @Metabreakers  7 ปีที่แล้ว

      A7X Disturbed mix lahmian medium and bulk oil 50/50 and try that. Medium is basically the stuff they put into paints to create a wash. It will thin the nuln oil and dilute it without changing the properties of the wash -Sam
