Here's an idea: why not just make Hector Hammond the main antagonist? It would've presented a "beginner villain" for Hal as a Green Lantern-in-training, gave time to explore Sinestro as a character and go into his relationship with Hal, saved Parallax for another movie, and possibly introduce the other Corps in the future.

The fact that Hal Jordan/Green Lantern is by far my favorite of DC's heroes caused way more fury for me than say, the CGI suit.
This movie's utter disrespect and disregard for what it means to be a Green Lantern, a superhero, or for the history is what caused me to skip the DC movies that came after entirely.
Now I know why Taika Waititi started going with Marvel after this film lol.
I think they mixed up Hal Jordan and Guy Gardner.
Also, look at Sinestro giving us all the finger at the end there. Makes a sensible coda for the film.
Parallax is EASILY my biggest problem with this film, not only for them changing his origin but because he wasn't even the one who killed Abin Sur in the comics. The one who murdered him was Atrocitus, the leader of the Red Lanterns.
I was more entertained by the green lantern cutscenes from Injustice 1 + 2. Better CGI too..

I saw this a long while back, but knew very little than what was seen in Justice League cartoons from the 70's/80's. I like Ryan Reynolds and his attitude of this movie in his comments in Deadpool. Deadpool was such a superior movie it gave me redemption for having to have starred in this sad sad movie. The CGI suit was also a really cheesy look for me, but then again, I haven't read the comics.
The CGI suit is the very least of this film’s problems. I liked the Lantern CGI planet, it was kind of fun to see all of these different aliens

I recently watched the _Superman: The Animated Series_ episode "In Brightest Day..." and they did the whole "give the villain the ring" thing much better. There, the ring Kyle Rayner gave Sinestro was just a fabrication of the actual ring. It was so much better because it demonstrated Rayner's quick thinking and how his imagination can utilise the ring.
I was always more of a Marvel fan than DC so I wasn't familiar with much of Green Lantern's lore. I really like your breakdown of what was changed from the comic, and I'm glad I skipped this one when it was in theaters. The original material is loved for a reason, and everytime I see another comic movie it's a reminder that the film makers think they can improve while being formula driven (see original attempt at the Phoenix Saga in X-Men: Last Stand, which... ugh...). Anyway, good review!
All right, you young whippersnapper.... Honestly, I agree with most of the points you made here. I really do feel the worst problem this movie had (the same with Universal's attempts at a 'Dark Universe;' Amazing Spider-man 2, and DC's later "Batman v Superman) was that they were all rushing to create a franchise, not make a good movie.
Having said that, I would like to remind you that Green Lantern has had about five different Canons, though some of them are very similar.
I started reading Green Lantern not long before it was cancelled, in 1972. Fortunately, he moved to a back up in one of my favorite comics at that time (The Flash), and GL ended up becoming one of my favorite heroes.
The real problem I had with this movie is not that they totally misused Parrallax, not that there was enough material here for three or four movies, and not that they rushed through the entire story with Sinestro. My story was that one of their main sources for the character was Emerald Dawn, from 89 and 90, when Hal was ret-conned from being a fearless fighter pilot to being a whinny drunk who spent part of that series serving time for drunk driving.
To make a long story short (I know - too late!), I do love the stuff that you seem to have grown up on. Geoff Johns did a great job ret-conning Hal Jordan back to life/GL, and introducing the other Lantern Corps. I've found the material since he left more hit or miss, but I really would have preferred to see a series of movies based on that material.
At least we're getting a new green lantern reboot

A) Ryan Reynolds (Hal Jordan) went on to become one of the best MARVEL superheroes after his portrayal of this DC superhero.
B) Taika Waititi went on to direct one of the funniest and action-packed MARVEL superhero movies (Thor Ragnarok) after his role as Hal Jordan's engineer friend.
Talk about MARVEL taking people from DC and actually using them better than DC did.

I'm tired of evil murder clouds for faceless enemies. Blade 1 learned that was a bad idea yet superhero films keep doing it.It leaves the audience with no connection to the villain.

But I loved the blood monster from Blade. I mean I was like 7 when it came out but I distinctly remember thinking it was the coolest thing ever. I should rewatch.

I feel like film makers don't believe we have the knowledge to follow a more intricate movie plot based of the comics. There is a reason why they're so successful ; they're good! I would love to see a full fledged movie that takes what we know and love, without having to add in some nonsense that doesn't add anything good to the plot.

Personally, I liked the movie but as much as I liked it I think if DC hadn't been in such a rush Ryan Wrenalds would have made a far better Guy Gardener... at least with how they wrote this "Hal" and probably wouldn't have shown up till a 3ed movie if they had gone in proper timeline.

This film is a perfect personification of what a lot of super hero films do, they want to make sure to use well known bad guys, so they choose somebody WAY to powerful for the first film, this then means they either need to nerf the hell out of them which annoys people who know the source material, or they end up having to use something less threatening for the next one. They just don't have faith that people would watch a story based on a comic book without well known characters, which makes it seem like they think it's shit, but people read comics so fuck it lets milk them of money if we can.
Any chance or reviewing newer superhero movies?

I cannot comprehend why that skript is the way it is. They did not have to write one, it was already there, in the comics. So why the extra effort leading to such a bad outcome?
Meik Vincenco If they had followed the story of the comic books, that would require creative writing to setup future plots and still have the film entertaining, the way they did it, is far easier because they don't need to plan for the future or take any kind of risk, which is DC in a nutshell.

Meik Vincenco Although I would say I heard rumors of idris elba playing a john Stewart version of green lantern which I would be eager to see but fool me once and all that so I'd be very hesitant.

This is really a nitpick, I'm not even disagreeing with you but the thing about "Clark's glasses" is that his whole demeanour changed too. But the Lantern goes from cocky jet pilot to cocky super hero. But yeah, obviously the same guy though, it's silly.
godzillaprime Superman Returns Jason the son of Lois easily saw with 1 look of both Superman and after talking to Clark that Clark Is Superman except other persons can't see Clark Kent is Superman is implausible.
It's implausible that Lois Lane a smart reporter and vast amounts of persons don't see Clark Kent is Superman except no problem for a kid is implausible.
It's unsurprising that a explanation which is plausible is Clark has a device on his glasses so he can alter vision what humans see when looking at Clark Kent.

This film was directed by the same guy that directed Casino Royale (the Daniel Craig version): Martin Campbell. I'm sure the fucking studio got in the way and made it into the cgi crapfest that we now know, as usual. Them studio suits never learn......
While I love Ryan Reynolds, I would have preferred to have Nathan Fillion in the role. Not only does he have the look, but I believe his natural personality and charisma better aligns with Hal Jordan's character.
Ryan Reynolds is more like guy Gardner than a Hal Jordan.

That would actually make sense, although, from a psychological point of view, we actually get a lot of our learning and understanding of languages by looking at someones mouth as they speak, so perhaps its converting that too, in order to facilitate greater understanding, I'm fairly certain this film wouldn't think of that though.

I was so mad after watching this movie it was so wrong it was so much crap I don't think the people who made this even glanced at the comics they just wanted to make a lot money and if they would have done it right from the beginning they could have made so much more cause if it was any good people would want to watch it over and over again plus watch the other movies that came after it just saying
The "Superman's glasses" bit feels off for one who claims to be a comic book fan... Especially when you're showing off Blackest Night, which had this exchange between Hal and Flash:

Flash: Clark slouches, drops his voice an octave, and wears suits two sizes too large.

As someone who grew up with DC characters in the 1960s, I found this movie incredibly disappointing. Acting and writing that seemed like it was borrowed from a TV sitcom-- it was universally bad IMHO...

Green lantern?! I can't wait to see this shit. This movie was actually Great, considering how much needed to be covered. There probably should have been 3 movies before this one was made. So, I basically don't understand the hate for this movie. And I loved Mark Strong as Sinestro, and wanted to see him, and Ryan Reynolds in the sequel.

The only thing I really hated about them making this movie and like with Zack Snyder's Justice League or whatever they didn't have the Green Lantern in it and I don't know about y'all but I'mma Justice League fan and every time you think of the Justice League who do you think the members are one of them being a Green Lantern

How the hell was this shitty script approved ? And who the hell did the design for this shitfest ? Everything from the lantern uniforms, to the lantern planet, the Guardians and Paralax looks like shit.

I must say, I quite like your reviews. I find you well spoken, funny, and at times even thought-provoking. But there is just one thing I just can not, for the life of me, understand, and that is... What the hell is up with that opening song? It's like seeing Oz behind the curtain. I just cannot fully agree with someone on a fundamental level that likes such horrendous music. I swear in one of your reviews you said Evanesense is one of your favorite bands. I mean, really? How can someone who has such good taste in movies have such poor taste in music? It just makes no sense. I've thought about this way more than I should.

even though DC suck at movies they're killing it with animation. the shows and animated movies are beautifully done. i wish they would incorporate that writing into movies. no more Zack Snyder garbage.
I actually liked this movie, granted I had no expectations of it nor had ever really been a D. C comic reader....but I think I liked it because of Ryan Reynolds more than the anything; he's better as Mr. Pool.....I liked it, granted it wan't one of the better D. C. movies like Wonder Woman.....and well, that might be the only one.....but it certainly wasn't that abomination badly made absinthe of a piece of crap the 2015 Fantastic Four....just saying....I do hope if they make another Green Lantern, it's better I grant you that.

Deusdaecon Reviews They did have a great Wonder Woman movie, and they made Aquaman badass so I'm optimistic it can be good or great.
Also the mask resembles face paint a lameass cheap awful mask.
I saw the concept for new Green Lantern costume it would be mostly armor style for the green part it looks great.

Me and my wife watched this in a 3d theater and trust me when I say we almost enjoyed it, the headaches we have after removing those pesky 3d glasses were so evident to the usherette that she has to assist my wife in walking to the exit. I was already disappointed midway the movie because of how wasted every character portrayed. I miss Michael Clark Duncan's voice and I am glad Taika Waititi and Ryan Reynolds got better in their Marvel projects.
You've done worse movies. I'm not sold on you totally hating this movie. I quite like it for what it is. The new Romero flicks are not even cohesive. This at least follows a formula. I dunno. I think it's ok.

Honestly for as awful as the movie is, the Guardians being such self sabotaging assholes becomes more darkly amusing when later on in the comics it's revealed that the Guardians are a bunch of Emotionless control freaks who can be blamed for nearly everything that went wrong.

When this movie first came out, I used to say "This is why Marvel movies are better". But now they clearly care more about establishing their own worlds instead of sticking to the comics so...yeah fuck comic movies.
You commenting on Sinestro's appearance with his mustache and pointy ears is shitty because that's how he looks in the comics and DC continuity. It's kinda shitty because you talked about how this film (right off the bat) didn't follow the comics, makes me feel like you shit on Mark Strong's character which as much as I love Ryan Reynolds outshines his acting here. This movie was garbage but the whole idea of Sinestro being a obvious bad guy wasn't on the film but DC comics which isn't a criticism of the film but it's source material. And it was never fully realized because this film wasn't successful.

I truly Enjoyed this movie. I thought it was a good super hero movie. I don't think it should have even had a second movie because well I just liked this movie as a standalone. I don't hate the movie or think it's lame or whatever people call it. Winter Soldier is really stupid, I don't love or enjoy that movie at all. I hate that movie. I got bored. Green Lantern Is 100% BETTER Than Winter Soldier.

still a more interesting story than man of steel. Yes, i must be a marvel fanboy. That's why i compare these new DC films to older DC films that were superior. I'd put this green lantern above every zack snyder film and suicide squad. Way inferior to the Nolan and the Tim Burton films, but at least it had fucking things happening in service of an over-arching plot.
