It is absolutely not helpful. My mother was all for body positivity and now she’s on oxygen, has diabetes, high blood pressure, heart and kidney failure and arthritis in her knees. She can’t go anywhere without her wheelchair.
I think we should be more accepting and supportive of fat people without putting all the blame on them. But I also think that "body positivity" can often have a negative impact. I think it certainly depends though on whether or not the people are healthy, trying to become healthier, or not trying at all
I think it is short sighted and unhelpful. What matters is finding out what you can change or not about yourself and your unique realities. Get your genome completely typed. This will tell you all sorts of things about diet and health that are pivotal. Optimize your health. Get together with a nutritionist and chef/baker to create ideal recipes that taste just right for you while also matching your health/nutrition needs. Find a hobby you love that has the happy side effect of keeping you fit. Men could chop wood, rock climb and hike instead of going to the gym. Women could dance, do yoga, hike, knead bread, swim and so on. I think most of us would stay fit more easily this way because gyms turn fitness into a chore. Overall this is about practical things and not mere mindset.
Extremes are bad, period. Too skinny is unhealthy and too fat is unhealthy. Too much sugar is bad, too much alcohol is bad, too much food is bad, too much Tiktok erases your brain cells, extremes are bad and that is it.
Instead of labeling things as body positivity, neutrality, whatever, people should just learn to exercise more kindness; to themselves and others. Kindness takes you a long way.

@modkip25 health at any size is a lie. We can love and accept fat people for who they are and think they are beautiful all we want but at the end of the day fat people are more likely to meet an early demise due to health complications relates to their size. It is sad, and unfair but it is true. Fat people are good people but they won't have the capacity to be good people if they are six feet under.
I went out with friends on a fast food restaurant and i ordered Caesar salad. Let me remind you that beside the chicken , lettuce, corn (probably all processed), such a salad has very caloric dressing, croutons, shredded cheese etc. It can be considered healthier but not necessarily being too low calorie. So my best friend asks me : why are you ordering salad ? Are you dieting? (I was dieting at the moment) It shocked me how , even tho i was eating fast food salad ,with all the things i listed previously, they thought that i was dieting , just because i didn't choose to eat a double cheeseburger for example.
I know! I suddenly have an eating disorder because lunch was a giant slice of sour dough, 1 cup cottage cheese and a nectarine instead of McDonald's Value Meal? I'm addicted to broccoli, cabbage and kale, not doughnuts, Oreos and Pringles, so I suddenly have ARFID? Like...WUT?!😢
People don’t understand that Body positivity isn’t being extremely obese and eating a copious amount of junk food just to call it “ self love”.Eating junk food is fine but if you can hardly breathe after standing up or saying a simple word..it says a lot. Body positivity is taking care of yourself, understanding that’s it’s ok to have a little bit more meat on your bones, and that it’s ok if your waist isn’t the size of a toothpick. That’s my understanding of it.
THIS. this is what i always thought it was. no one should be encouraging being obese and unhealthy, just accepting and being POSITIVE about people’s bodies because not everyone can have a bella hadid/bombshell body. some people naturally are bigger and have a healthy lifestyle. especially aging and how your body changed as you get old.
Body positivity isn't just about having some healthy fat and not minding it, but it's also about loving yourself even if you're obese while working to be healthier because instead of hating ourselves for letting ourselves down we should be happy we're making a change. The problem is some people told themselves it meant that you don't need to change to be healthier because they're scared they won't be able to do it.
Honestly I think that body positivity is being the healthiest version of yourself without comparing your physical body to others and accepting the fact that something’s are beyond your physical limits. Eg (bigger butt, boobs, smaller waist, thigh gaps ect.)
An it is also being in peace with your physical insecurities. It’s about loving yourself at your worst while working to be the better version of yourself. Fighting against toxic beauty standards and bullying.
Is this nuanced though? There are some salient points here but there is definitely a bias and an ulterior motive here-did you check her links to her workouts or her exercise clothes or the protein snacks all conveniently within the description box? It seems like an argument being made clearly in favor in one side, with historical, scientific and throwaway “but everyone is beautiful” comments to shield her from criticism.
@@Elirum She's arguing "in favour of one side" because the other side is literally absurd, fat acceptance is such a silly ideology that even a nuanced conversation like this can't really give much credence to their position. Any reasonable person would come to the same conclusions, whether they sell protein snacks or not.
As someone who is overweight. I think some people take body positivity too serious. We should always strive for self improvement. Our health should always be a priority over our looks.
I absolutely agree. I honestly feel quite attacked when people consider me eating a salad is me restricting myself. Sometimes I just want a glorious salad other days I want a burger and both those choices are fine as long as their balanced.
Agree. I’m naturally slim. Many people don’t believe me that I genuinely dislike cakes and ice creams. My mom is that way too. Some people are just genetically wired that way.
I'm naturally skinny but when I workout every single day and eat healthy most of the time (homemade foods, sometimes salads,no sugar),people assume that I want to lose weight when my main goal is to gain muscle to stay in shape
Truth is, people don’t want to accept that they do have control over how their body looks, because it’s easier to pretend that it all just happens to them.
To a point. A very little one. Education, financial means, country you live in, culture you grew up in, type of job or lack of job, mental health, housing situation, trauma, support network, cost of health care, means of transport available to you, urban planning of the city/country you live in, and probably others play a massive role in how easy or difficult it is to change your body composition.
I gained a lot within one month. I had to buy one size bigger jeans to go to work. 😂I was like, okay, nothing changed in my life it's not good. Went to the doctor, and had ultrasounds and blood tests. Turned out my thyroid acted out it's a heritage from my mom’s mom 😅 The doctor put me on medication and extra vitamins. Also, we discussed how I can lose weight within 2-3 months with workout and calorie deficit 💪🏼 I am almost the same size after 1 month. I just have to listen to my doctor 🫡 More people should listen to them 🙈
@han nah one not everyone second people who make comment on people weight on the cover that "its for they health " are just fat phobic because all the scientific litterature tell people to stop doing that because it's just have negative impact and trigger ED.
lol you definitely have no idea about what hormonal imbalance looks like then. i'm so tired of people having 0 knowledge about health, psychology and how the body works saying whatever they want. there's also eating disorders, physical or mental traumas, and several others reasons/ illness that can make you too skinny or too fat. you don't know neither anything about the set point weight and how unconscious mental process establish how much you're supposed to weight. please educate yourself outside of TV or "regular" doctors that have no clue about nutrition or how the metabolism really works.
People are afraid of even the word "fat" 😢 because of the created culture of fat haters Everything is simple here, go to the doctor and consult about your weight and body condition, instead of listening to toxic tiktoks
I guarantee we’re not “afraid” of the word fat lol. I don’t get a panic attack seeing an overweight person. Overweight people need to stop projecting their own insecurities into other people & claiming the rest of the world has the problem because they themselves can’t admit that they’re the ones with the problem. The aggressiveness & delusion is off putting.
@@DeathnoteBB Problem is being overweight very often is a cause for a lot of health problems that seem unrelated. Also being overweight leads to more problems the older you get. No "If" someone gets complications but "when" and the earlier it´s fought the better.
just had a conversation with my dad about my body.. i gained like 5kg (im 63kg on 1,60m now) because im weightlifting and i want to be big and strong and he deadass told me that it doesnt look pretty anymore, that i look puffed up and that other girls in the gym work out too and "dont look like that". and not only because i do this so i feel comfortable but the way he said it made me tear up because i felt he was pushing his beautystandard on me while being so ignorant about me feelings/ goals etc.
That’s lame of him. Every woman (who’s able to) should strength train because of how good it is for you. And you are beautiful AND strong. My bf loves my strength training build. When I asked him more, he said he loves fit “jacked” looking girls. Keep doing what you’re doing!!❤
He is and he's wrong for that. He shouldn't be talking about how beautiful his daughter is to other girls especially because you are doing something to be fit and healthy. Keep doing what you're doing and don't listen to harmful people like that
Please don’t give your dad any power over your self esteem! His little opinion is irrelevant to your strength and YOUR opinion on yourself and what you want in life!! Being strong and building muscle as women is amazing and useful! I wish I were able to build muscle as fast as when I was younger.
He wasn't pushing anything on you, just saying his opinion. Not everyone is going to think you look good doing a particular thing. You can choose to accept that or move on. I don't find extremely buff, body building dudes attractive, it is what it is, doesn't mean I'm pushing something on them.
This is exactly why i quit TikTok. I've always been naturally quite slim and others have told me that but i compared myself to others to the point that i viewed myself as 'fat'. I have felt so much better since i deleted it and don't think ill return
body neutrality should be all about focusing more on the fact that you have a body and exercising to keep it healthy, because its the only body you've got. and not letting stupid Beauty standards get in the way of your mental health and physical well being
@@littlemeowmeow9947🤦🏽♀️🤦🏽♀️I swear I am idiot sometimes. I thought about buying weights from Facebook and eBay but not from the thrift store. Thanks for the indirect help!
It can be though, it can kind of depend on your location. Lots of places in the U.S are food deserts and a lot of the time unhealthy food is cheaper than healthier stuff in restaurants and stores because they can typically store the unhealthy food for longer without it going bad (I'm sure there are other underlying reasons for unhealthy food generally being cheaper but I bet you get the point)
But I also see some of what you're saying. Exercise certainly isn't expensive. But good exercise means nothing with a poor diet that you can hardly help
"My body is the least interesting thing about me" is what I keep telling myself and I think it's keeping me in a healthier mindset. I have ED history and I still do have bouts of restrictive eating which i'm working on. I think body neutrality is a lot more helpful to me because the more I focus on my body whether in a good or a bad way, the more opportunities I give my own mind to obsess over it and pick it apart. Everyone is different though, the main point is to look after yourself and keep everything in moderation. We only get one body!
In a moderate defense of the women on water tok, a lot of them have had bariatric surgery. Which is a weight loss surgery that drastically reduces the size of the stomach. For the next few weeks and months after the operation, you are restricted to an all liquid diet as your stomach adjusts. Especially since it can't hold almost any solid food. You have to consume around 50 oz of water a day, maybe more. So, in accordance with medical advice, you can add sweeteners and flavoring to the water in case you don't like plain water. Though it is true that some people are using it as like a diet "hack," and that's very unfortunate
Mmm idk, when my friends ask if I should be eating or drinking something that affects me because of my condition I appreciate it. I know it of course, but it’s nice that before I indulge someone asks me so I reevaluate that decision. It also shows care from my friends part.
I’ve also thought of doing the same by asking some questions on their conditions (because they look worse or like they’re getting to a serious condition) but I’m scared to drive them away, maybe they think I’m fat phobic or that I want to restrict everything from them. It’s sad
i feel like if you see one of your friends eating a large amount of food or gaining/losing a lot of weight you should say something. in a polite way check in on them.

there is losing weight the healthy way and there is doing it the wrong way (crash dieting , highly restrictive eating). IF you are already in the healthy range in weight, there is no reason to lose weight. Now, if you are obese, then yes , you most likely should lose weight. If you are losing weight, it needs to be done the healthy way ( proper diet and exercise) and you should not go overboard (becoming underweight). also, healthy weight loss takes time and should be gradual, if you are losing weight too fast, you are not doing it right

One thing, slightly of topic, is that I always found it weird that people who are too big to ride certain horses, say they are fat shamed when not being allowed to do so. As someone that owns horses, that seems to be a difficult discussion. Even though it is clearly about the safety and protection of the horse, somehow these topic are not supposed to be talked about. I would not say someone is fat or ugly when they are too heavy for my horse, my horse is just not strong enough (max 20% of his weight rule). Somehow people tend to think that people who set these boundaries are at fault. It's like weight is not allowed to be a factor, whether it is health or in this case the health of a horse. But I know I'm not truly on topic, it just was a thought I got while watching this video.
Horse riding websites I've seen have a weight limit and it's completely understandable. I'm slightly over the limit and I'm not upset at all. They are respecting and looking out for their animals and nobody wants any injuries. Being a big person doesn't mean you should be bullied but it is going to have physical limitations just like being too tall or short does.
didn't watertok originate from someone who had to drink a lot of water after surgery and was struggling with it and then started mixing different flavours of water to help hit the amount of water she needed to drink after the surgery (+people who can't have solid food after a surgery/struggle to drink plain water due to sensory issues). I understand your approach about it being a way to undereat, etc but I don't think that is always the case
This makes me so glad I don’t have TikTok I get all social media is toxic but it’s one of the more well known now for stupid trends that are either deadly stupid illegal or something basic
The watertok trend was covered brilliantly by Tiffany Ferguson. Apparently a lot of the people into the trend have had bariatric surgery, which evidently can make plain water intolerable. It's not a snake oil for weight loss, but a niche product tailored to those who have already undergone the procedure.
Zoe, I'd love to thank you so much for helping me. I've been watching your videos for a while now, and you changed how I perceive myself so much. I've been struggling with anorexia / acne / weight gain+loss / depression since I was 10, and since I found your TH-cam channel, I've felt so much better about myself. You gave me so much motivation and self-confidence with how open and thoughtful you are. Seeing that you can get through things made me feel like I could, too. I'm 16 now, been watching your videos for a year, and I am the best I've ever been because of you. Really, thank you.
Not everyone cares about being healthy. Some people will choose not to be and that's something they should discuss with their doctors if they want to. People don't owe us health and they don't lose value for not being healthy. We should just all be more kind and have more compassion. Towards others and towards ourselves.
I feel like purposefully deciding to be unhealthy shouldn't be glorified. I'm not reslonsing to or referring to anything but your comment specifically, here. But I think it's weird to say that people can't dislike the choice to be unhealthy. It's the exact same thing as addiction. You can still respect the person. But you do not have to support their choices. And if you strongly disagree with them, that is your right.
If someone is purposefully unhealthy that says something about their character. And it’s a lifestyle not many people would want to be around. If my friend or family is doing something that is bad for them I’m gonna say something. It’s nice to say nobody should ever be judgmental but we are always judging ourselves and others. Impossible not to.
@Ray03595 Indeed, we are always judging each other. However, our judgments are just that. Judgments. We don't need to vocalise them all the time. Also, most people know what's healthy and what's not, so there's no point in saying anything.
If you have something you hate about yourself and have the ability to change it then change it. If you have something that you hate about yourself and can not change it then accept it. Simple. I don’t understand how people find that hard to understand.

@@YoongispawsI love myself nowadays, I honestly think I’m very blessed to have been born with such a functional and healthy body. However I don’t go around thinking I’m the bee’s knees and better than everyone. Loving yourself and being full of yourself are 2 different things. I still acknowledge I have areas I could improve in, both physically strength wise and personality wise in multiple ways, but I’m not gonna hate myself for not being perfect. I still strive to improve because it’ll make my quality of life better but that takes time and it’s okay to do things at my own pace, I’m still young so what’s the rush? To me, loving yourself is understanding your strengths and your weaknesses and being kind to yourself but also realistic with yourself. I think people often fall into the trap of thinking being realistic means being pessimistic and that’s why they don’t think you can love yourself without being delusional, but I believe that you can be realistic and an optimist. You’re still acknowledging reality just the difference is how you approach and deal with it.
i think that my issue with the topic is that fatphobia is so often disguised as caring for somebody's health. it's completely hypocritical!! i am sombody who is midsized but always thought of myself as fat because i was slighly larger than the people around me- that is just how my body is built. ive heard countless times that i should try losing weight, mostly from family, but guess what? i am healthy! everything is fine at checkups, i naturally eat less/have a smaller appetite than my skinnier friends, and i stay active relatively regularly. for all intents and purposes, i live a healthier lifestyle than many people i know. could i be even healthier? sure! but it's not anybody's business to judge my health based on what my body looks like. i would love it if people would stop pretending they gave a crap about people's health, because it truly isn't about that.
There are people who actually are just concerned about health. I'm happy for you that you are healthy rn and I have no clue what you mean by midsized, but since a lot of TikTokers claim obese weights to be midsized, I'll go with that definition. Obesity goes with an increased risk for just about any illness, for example heart disease. Idk whether that applies to you, but it's simply wrong to claim that obesity is healthy and people are allowed to voice concerns.
@nadiacreative9165 according to a quick google search, midsized is usually between size 8-14 (nowhere near obese). also, i think you misunderstood me. i never said that obesity is healthy, just that a lot of times people will shame bodies under the guise of "caring" about health. regardless of anybody's stance on obesity, it's never someone's place to comment on another person's body.
@@sarahf9655 I absolutely agree with you on almost all of your points, there are however people in the health at every size community who don't call size 14-18 midsized, but skinny or straight sized, hence my statement. The critics in my previous comment were not directed specifically towards you, but towards the fat acceptance community, I was mostly trying to add to your points. I apologize for any misunderstandings
Everyone is healthy until they aren’t. By staying obese you are taking years, potentially decades not just off your life but your life at a good standard of health. If someone starts smoking a pack a day for a couple of years but gets their lungs checked, bloods done and ‘everything is fine’, does that mean they should just keep smoking a pack a day? No. Of course not. No one would suggest that.
I hope everyone in the this comment section is comfortable with their own body while they can also recognise where they can improve. May we all be able to forgive and forget about the mean comments people have told us about our bodies. Love yourselves.♥
I've been on some heavy anti-depressants for more than ten years now and up until like 2021 (when I finally reached my perfect dose) I kept on gaining weight. I am fat now and I have been for many years but I've also been more active and sportive in the last year than I have ever been before. Have I lost any weight? Hell nah. But does my body feel healthier than when I was 135 pounds? Hell yeah. There's sports' poses I can't physically do because of my big belly but it's just not something I can change unless I stop taking my meds. But I've always thought: I'd rather be fat than dead. So, I'll keep on taking my meds, being fat and still being more active than I was since my childhood.
Watertok emerged from bariatric patients due to the volume of water needed to consume in a day, and issues with some patients have with how flavors are perceived post surgery. While related to the general discussion on weight, it would have been nice if that had been mentioned because bariatric patients aren’t drinking all that water to replace meals. It’s an important piece of context.
There’s few inaccuracies with this, the first being that the reason why fat acceptance was pushed in the first place. There were men who were bullied because of their love of big women so that is why that original organization was created. Also, someone doesn’t have to break the bank on healthy food. You can eat in a healthy manner without overdoing it. So many people are dying from obesity while a very small percentage are dying from restrictive eating disorders but we still keep hearing so so much about restrictive disorders. As someone who lost 65 lbs with hypothyroidism, I can tell you that it’s a matter of tracking what you’re eating and being HONEST with yourself. Sadly, a lot of people are buying into things about diet and exercise that just aren’t true.
The fat side of body positivity means only them 😭 bc the second a girly loses weight all hell breaks loose. Or they have no shame being hateful towards thin girls. All they have to do is love themselves, be kind to others, & take care of your health (being extremely thin or extremely overweight is unhealthy)

It all depends on how you curate your algorithm (although twitter is a mess right now so you cant do that). Most of the drama on tik tok escapes me because I curated it to show me cute animal videos instead. All social media can be horrible because humans are the one controlling them. Your personal experience on these apps depends on what you choose to engage with.
Being content means being grounded in the present. I actually think we severely underestimate the level of skill and discipline required in this practice, even though it can often take decades to master. We want the feeling of being content that comes with the training of a monk, without any of the training and wonder why were left unsatisfied
Body positivity for me was dealing with all the scars on my body from previous mental health issues and also my scar and body shape from my back surgery. The people that took it and made it about fat people… pls. You can be fat and beautiful but don’t shit on smaller people for not being insecure. If you’re gonna post pictures of your fat body good for you, but stop calling it healthy when it’s not. Visceral fat can kill you
as someone who has arfid myself u mentioning how debilitating and serious it actually is means a lot. whenever i tell people i have this disorder they just believe it me giving an excuse for not wanting to explore new foods. like i can’t even have foods touching for me to eat them. it’s debilitating to have to make sure the texture of a food is ok or ill have reluctance even eating my safe foods. not only that but going out to eat is always a struggle, i never know if a restaurant will have one of my safe foods available and not ordering something draws attention to me it’s terrifying. and it’s not like i can even change this i’ve tried even when i was a little kid like 4 i would only eat like 2 foods. it’s effected my health so much and is always brushed aside. people worried im not eating because i think im better then them when that’s not the case. family dinner is horrible because everyone thinks i refuse to eat what everyone else is having because of bad body image when that’s not it, being told im beautiful the way i am and to eat more and different foods doesn’t help it just pushes me away. the topic in the video so nuanced, and i appreciate u bring all points across and completely agree with everything u said
Obesity can increase your health risks by 33% That means 67% of overweight people won't be additionally affected and will live to old age just fine. I know skinny people that eat fast food everyday and drink excessive alcohol and play video games all weekend and overweight people that go biking and play soccer every week and love salads for lunch. Health isn't always reflected by your pants size. People don't need to be bullied for not being a size 6. There are so many factors: genetics, income, mental health, diseases, addiction, hormones, pregnancy, stress, disability, time, education, allergies, injury, upbringing, habits, medications, etc. that contribute to temporary and permanent weight gain. Food is an easy and affordable comfort, especially in these times. I can't hop on a plane to Hawaii or cure my mom's addiction but I can make a grilled cheese on garlic toast and have a mango popsicle for lunch.
Body positivity should be about defending people being mistreated because they don't fit the standards, if you take care of yourself and don't get the "perfect body" that should be defended
I agree with you on ALL points! You're right! People make a choice to be fat and they make a choice to eat garbage food and NOT exercise! You look great. We need more posts like yours. People lie when they say they are happy being fat. You want to be fit and fabulous and these people are so lazy. Look at the disgusting foods these people eat. I feel nothing for them. It's their fault!
my self love is so much better when i eat healthy, lots vegetables, salad, protein, some carbs, exercise, just the necessarity amount to get to my goal (thats is enough food, really!!), while eating dessert in the amount that will make me happy and still not affect my goals! the balance is the key
This video made me think about eating disorders and how they are always associated with losing weight and trying to look skinnier. Now I wonder if there are ones that are focused on gaining weight? Or is it called binge eating? Well, that's a new topic to research, I guess...
I think some with an over eating disorder should definitely speak on this! Maybe the more its talked about the more people understand that both ends are bad and nothing is 100% good or evil
I dont know about that. But something I have noticed is that fat people are considered to eat a lot more than other person when that isnt true most of the times. They are most likely fat for staying still and not moving enough. And there is also a debate about if there is posible to be fat because of genetycs, I wont say it works "father and his family fat = fat kid" but I would say it affects genetycs to some point
Binge eating disorder would make you gain weight. Certain types of AFRID would make you gain weight (most think of eating overly healthy but it could also be eating only junk; like man who only eats fries) Not really in the DSM (might qualify for EDNOS) but there are gym bros who focus on getting gains to the point that its an eating disorder.
@@user-qb3gm4pu2mNope. Weight is mostly to do with food consumption. Being sedentary while eating healthy will only make you slightly bigger than someone with your same lifestyle who works out. A lot of fat people think they don’t eat that much, but in reality they drink a lot of their calories or eat a lot of calories separated into two meals or snacks. Data supports thisz
I thinks it's good to have different bodies on media. I was a fat kid, not obese but fat. I always grew up feeling I never feel "normal" because i only saw thin women on media. I felt i don't deserve to be happy or confident until i become thin. And i did i became very thin for some yrs with restricted eating. It didn't make me as happy and confident as i expected... I was still me in a thinner body. The first non thin main character i saw on screen, i was amazed that this girl, being bigger than me has confidence, love, happiness and a thriving life. It's good to have different types of bodies in screen. I don't mean obese bodies but just bodies that are healthy but not like super thin... The middle ground that most of us are in.
Once upon a time a little girl (me 🙋) that was hating her body. Whenever she would look at the mirror she would literally burst into tears. One day a person thought her "if you don't like your body I can love it for you 😊" she cried immediately after. These two friends promessed to each other to always to love the "bad aspects"of the one if it's too hard for the other to do. What I'm tryna say is that if it's too hard for you to love yourself find someone to love until you can do it yourself. Don't worry if you can't find that person I deeply believe that everybody has that person and they're destined to be with each other. Just believe in destiny 😉 I wanna deeply thank that person for helping me through my hard times. Because of her now I can proudly say that I ACCEPT my body.😌And maybe one day I will love it. Who knows?😏😊 Hope y'all have a great day 😊🥰🥰
It's my general take that the best kind of body to have is a healthy body. As long as you're taking care of yourself to the best of your ability (which is different for everyone) them that's the most important thing.
I have sex dysphoria so I’ll never “love” my body, but I honestly don’t care how it looks except for how other people (men) treat me. I like to remain covered, but I don’t think about it when I’m just living my life usually. I use my body for stuff I enjoy and try to remain healthy.I don’t judge others bodies. I think that’s a pretty ok place to be in terms of body neutrality
Recently I’ve started to love my body. It’s not perfect, never could be, and I strive to be a healthier, stronger version of myself, for my mental and physical health 😊
in my opinion self acceptance is loving ur body no matter what state it is in but you should use self love to help ur body to be healthy and take care of it. These two components have to work together.
Humans aren't built to be content. It's an evolution thing. The best you can do (in my opinion) is to accept yourself as you are and continuously try to improve.
People should love themselves however they look, just don't go dellusional thinking that there are no consequences inheretly associated to our actions.
Obesity is probably never going to be "in," but I think the average person likes to see regularly-sized people living life. Reality shows, ironically, often have more normal-sized people in the cast. Still pretty, but not so skinny.
I have bad acid reflux, so i have to be "restrictive" to a degree, and people always think i diet because i want to loose weight even if i try to explain to them, they dont believe me, and just say 'you dont need to diet, you look perfect like this", its so annoying
I completely agree with everything you said… I hate that they’re pushing people to “accept” every single flaw in their bodies even if it maybe is something that can be changed in a healthy way.
I’m currently working on my self I work out one to two days a week but it feels like when I started changing what I wanted to lose weight for I started losing it a lot easier. in the past I wanted to lose weight because I thought I looked terrible and now I exercise because I want to be healthier and stronger but of course I don’t have the best self esteem I’m still trying to find things that make me more comfortable in myself and I don’t think I’m ever gonna be 100% happy with myself I’m just proud of myself for trying to be I want to be.😊also HAPPY PRIDE MONTH EVERYONE!!!🏳️🌈
I think working on yourself for health rather than looks is proven to better improve self esteem and even results unironically! I've started doing small things like stretching, walking everyday and hopefully getting into skating not because of looks but to make me happy and I truly do feel happier. Before I struggled staying on one routine because I didn't get results. I think once you start doing it for you your brain wants to do it more!
As someone who genuinely suffers from ARFID, it’s not “restriction” in the sense of a diet. Certain foods/textures make me puke. So I avoid them. It’s horrible as I lack so much protein due to this, but I a ti idly work each day to try more foods. Seeing it boiled down to someone trying to eat healthier makes me so angry because most of my life I was made fun of for being so picky - to the point where I don’t even eat in social settings.
I used to be an extremely picky eater, and still sometimes struggle with it. IDK if I would have qualified for AFRID during my height of pickiness, but to me, I could only 'safe' foods which mostly weren't all that healthy. It had a lot to do with textures, not feeling safe consuming food made by other ppl like at restaurants because I didn't know every texture or taste that was going to be in it unless it was an extremely simple meal. So I was more likely to be the one eating simple carbs and unhealthy fats or sugar for all meals. It wasn't good. My body would feel sick from it. Being able to eat healthy, and learning to appreciate more foods and enjoy actually healthy foods is the opposite of restrictive eating to me because it means that I can enjoy a wider arrange of things now and do not have to stick with foods that I deemed safe a long time ago that weren't good for me. Yes, I still eat sweets and unhealthy things and there are still foods I haven't been brave enough to try, but man, I just can't understand the mindset of calling healthy eating restrictive. Like there are restrictive diets that are like pure salad, but arguably those aren't all that healthy either because they're missing many key nutrients. We're supposed to eat a wide array of things. And most of those things should be on healthier side, but there's so many good food to enjoy that is good for you!!
i was never the person that like burritos, hamburgers, or hotdogs...even donuts are to much for me most of the time...but i LOVE fruit it tastes like candy to me and fresh vegetables are soooo good!! especially cucumbers!! but people i know want me to eat mcdonald's because they think im restricting myself..no...i just don't like it (but yess i do love ice cream and things like that) i just don't understand how people "care" about what im eating vs what im eating that is actually good for me...i get it ok most people don't enjoy foods i do but that's me and i really just want to eat the way i want without being told im "fat phobic" :/
self-acceptance and self-improvement do not contradict each other - the former, when combined with self-love, leads to the latter. in accepting your current state, you're put in a better position to improve yourself. self-acceptance does NOT mean that you think you're perfect just the way you are and should never change. rather, it's about accepting who you fundamentally are (your strengths and weaknesses, good points and flaws, and the types of behavior/thinking you tend towards) and seeing that as the starting point of your journey towards who you want to be. effective self-improvement is a matter of utilizing your natural tendencies to help build the habits needed to get you where you want to be. the idea that trying to change means that you don't love yourself is completely wrong. loving yourself means doing what is good for you, and if that requires change, then you should make an effort to change. for example, when it comes to food, just letting yourself indulge in massive quantities of junk food on a daily basis is not an act of self-love. oftentimes, when people feel the need to eat more food than they actually need (ie. continue to eat even though they are full), it's an attempt to cover up for a psychological issue. they may not even like the actual food that much or how they feel after eating so much.
I think that it is most important to be healthy, and if you are actively working on being healthy by exercising and eating well, then your body will look amazing even if you are naturally on the bigger side.
On one hand it’s good to embrace where your body is at, because it takes time and effort to make one’s body healthy and hating oneself is not a great motivator. On the other, we must also embrace life habits that are good for us if we want to feel good… I guarantee that if we are eating very unhealthy foods all day that we won’t feel very good. And doing appropriate exercises that are low impact for a body can feel really nice. Losing the weight can feel so much better, movement and daily chores become easier too. It takes so much time though that we can’t be in a place of negativity or we will lose all motivation quickly.
Why every time when it comes to body positivity we talk solely about weight issue? What about other things like acne, thin hair or just facial features that don't meet the beauty standarts at all and are considered "unattractive". I'm not overweight but have so many bad thoughts about me face... All these plus size models do meet ALL THE FUCKING STANDARD exept weight
Watertock is popular with people that have gone through gastric bypass. Youre usually quite good about research but I feel you missed the ball with this one
It should be applicable to people who have had the surgery. Not the masses which is what has happened. That’s the issue that I think she hits because the folks that have had the surgery aren’t who she is critiquing
A few things I need to say as a plus size person. First, as far as the fat people making unhealthy choices are concerned, it's obvious it isn't healthy. We know it, they know it. Though I do understand the reasoning behind what they are doing, whether or not it is actually effective. Thin people make unhealthy choices all the time and they are seen as down to earth and relatable, But the second a fat person eats something unhealthy, all hell breaks loose and suddenly everyone has an opinion on what they should be eating. Those people are essentially protesting the double standard. If people are either going to criticize unhealthy eating or just let people be, the same energy should be held no matter what your size. And for those of you who want to make a health argument anyway, people of any size can have damaging bodily effects from unhealthy living, and let's be honest. Chances are that you don't know the people you are judging or how healthy they actually are or aren't because you are not their doctor. Second, we definitely all need to learn what a healthy amount of food looks like. I'm not saying all those influencers are actually undereating, but some of them are, and them marketing it as healthy can be damaging to their followers. And to be fair, we can learn what overeating is, though honestly with the scrutiny we face as fat people, the general public probably already have a good idea of what that looks like. Third, for a lot of us, we have trauma due to diet culture, and it can be hard to heal from that if we don't have the right support. And due to our experiences, diet culture and healthy living feel very connected. As such, it can be hard to commit to being a bit healthier without falling into toxic eating patterns. For example, I am on a diet right now and due to this diet, I need to count my carbs and sugar, which is triggering to me since I was made to count calories and fat at a young age, and I worry that when I'm done with the diet, I'll find it difficult to transition back to a healthy and regular amount of carbs. And I'm walking a tightrope with learning to be healthy and one wrong move could send me into a cesspool of self-hatred. And finally, and I know this might get me some hate, I don't want to say that you don't have a voice in this discussion as someone who struggles with body image, but you are straight size and as far as I know, you have always been straight size, so coming from you, your criticism can come off as judgment from someone who doesn't actually know what it's like. As such, this discussion should be led by the people who actually deal with fat prejudice, especially the people who make healthy choices without the intention to lose weight. And I hope that with this discussion, you're willing to listen to our experiences and viewpoints.
as someone who experienced ED in a tweenage i 100% agree with you. i don't get it when people fighting with a "promoting obesity/body positivity" when it's all just accepting of fat people's existence? and also you all are not doctors to tell someone to loose weight bc you're worried for their health. it's not working like that
Fat is definitely unhealthy but it isn't always related to lazyness. For example, I was skinny before giving birth and then I gained an absurd amount of weight without changing my previous lifestyle. Turns out, my hormones got very messed up and the only way to fix them and get skinny again is to take birth control hormonal pills. However, those are extremely dangerous after 30 and may cause cancer. Basically, I prefer to be fat than get cancer.
do you think body positivity is healthy or helpful?
yeah sometimes, really depends on the context and situation
I love your video essays

(I was dieting at the moment)
It shocked me how , even tho i was eating fast food salad ,with all the things i listed previously, they thought that i was dieting , just because i didn't choose to eat a double cheeseburger for example.
Crazy junk food should be banned full stop I think if people want to eat it they should only be allowed to make it themselves 😂
Fighting against toxic beauty standards and bullying.
loving yourself but also staying between 18-25 bmi.
This is the nuanced conversation we all need to hear and be a part of.
She just parrots other people
@@Elirum She's arguing "in favour of one side" because the other side is literally absurd, fat acceptance is such a silly ideology that even a nuanced conversation like this can't really give much credence to their position.

I think we need to stop commenting on people’s bodies unless asked.
It’s sad

I love how whenever she talks about controversial topics I'm never mad or frustrated ~♡
It's not
"I hate how I look. I'm ugly, everyone thinks I am. I have to lose weight."
It's
"I should feel confident about being in my own skin so I can change myself for the better. I'm doing it because I love myself, I want to be healthy"
I'm trying to feel confident about myself .
Well said 💗
What you say is superficial
I 100 hundred percent agree, we should always respect our selfs and emproove no matter what
losing weight doesn't mean good health, neither does having fat mean you're unhealthy, that is what people don't want to understand.
@@modkip25 Good point!
I lost 18kilos. My period stopped. My gynecologist says it is very dangerous for me to stay in this weight. But every b**tard around me congratulates me, trying to reassure me that I must have become healthier, because fat is unhealthy. Well, I was not even overweight. 😂 It just makes me mad when I say smth like "I should gain 2-4 kilos" and hear: "Guuurl WhyYYy Don't DO tHaat! fAt Is SsoOOOo UnheALthYyy!" - everybody just think that losing weight is always good and always means self-improvement...
It is very hard to stop restricting, while it is seen as ultimate good by the people around you.
My poor baby sister is underweight and I'm encouraging her to gain maybe 10-15 lbs just to get her to the lowest healthy requirement of the BMI
I FEEL THAT Queen💁♀️
I girlbossed too close to the sun and now I can’t maintain a healthy weight without eating ALL THE FOOD😔
Also people always assume that all the kilos you haveonly arethrough fat? Like bro, gaining weight could also mean gianing muacle. Weight gain aint always bad just like weight loss aint always good.
For example, in currently loosing fat and gaining muacle and my weight barely disappears due to muscle weighing more than fat
there is losing weight the healthy way and there is doing it the wrong way (crash dieting , highly restrictive eating). IF you are already in the healthy range in weight, there is no reason to lose weight. Now, if you are obese, then yes , you most likely should lose weight. If you are losing weight, it needs to be done the healthy way ( proper diet and exercise) and you should not go overboard (becoming underweight). also, healthy weight loss takes time and should be gradual, if you are losing weight too fast, you are not doing it right
@@supererikman5331 mom constantly brags to me she lost 8 kg in 1 month and puts me on no-carb and low-cal diets. But i still somehow often have binge attacks (I have binge eating sisorder) because i just feel ao fucking hungry all the time. Any tips what to do, because my mom keeps calling me fat and makes me feel bad, and i stress-eat and then get fatter.
It’s nice to see that people care about the horse‘s health
didn't watertok originate from someone who had to drink a lot of water after surgery and was struggling with it and then started mixing different flavours of water to help hit the amount of water she needed to drink after the surgery (+people who can't have solid food after a surgery/struggle to drink plain water due to sensory issues). I understand your approach about it being a way to undereat, etc but I don't think that is always the case
This makes me so glad I don’t have TikTok I get all social media is toxic but it’s one of the more well known now for stupid trends that are either deadly stupid illegal or something basic
I truly believe you can love your body where it's at rn and still wanna improve yourself. Self love is wanting to improve yourself. IMO
I have quite a severe eating disorder and this video helped me understand what I am doing to my body so thank so much
The watertok trend was covered brilliantly by Tiffany Ferguson. Apparently a lot of the people into the trend have had bariatric surgery, which evidently can make plain water intolerable. It's not a snake oil for weight loss, but a niche product tailored to those who have already undergone the procedure.
How can it make it intolerable? I’ve never heard that, I’m interested to know how it works!
Only valid opinion in this whole comment section
I feel like purposefully deciding to be unhealthy shouldn't be glorified.
I'm not reslonsing to or referring to anything but your comment specifically, here. But I think it's weird to say that people can't dislike the choice to be unhealthy.
It's the exact same thing as addiction. You can still respect the person. But you do not have to support their choices. And if you strongly disagree with them, that is your right.
@Been Classified If you dislike that choice, then don't choose it for your life. It's pretty simple 🤷♀️
Self-Love and Self-care isn't the same as Self-indulgent
If you have something you hate about yourself and have the ability to change it then change it. If you have something that you hate about yourself and can not change it then accept it.
Simple. I don’t understand how people find that hard to understand.
It's easier said than done
@@Yoongispaws True, but if people loved themselves enough as they claim to do then they would do the absolute best for themselves.
@@Rose-pk6ss genuinely asking but have you ever met someone that loves themselves truly? Someone that never nags about anything on their body or their personality ? Those people don't exist except for the ones that suffer from narcissism
@@Yoongispaws Hate to break it to you, but there are plenty of people out there content with themselves (you wouldn’t find them on social media).
Fat phobia isn't real sis. Wake up
Everyone is healthy until they aren’t.
I loved that you gave a nuanced and non-judgmental take on this.
I love how you made a video on this, it needed to be said
Your videos make me feel better about myself ❤love you zoe
So, I'll keep on taking my meds, being fat and still being more active than I was since my childhood.
have you tried changing meds? ive been on zoloft for almost 7 years and never had an issue.
Thank you for talking about ARFID! been a struggle all my life, but no one knows about it
Stay strong! You are not alone
The fat side of body positivity means only them 😭 bc the second a girly loses weight all hell breaks loose. Or they have no shame being hateful towards thin girls. All they have to do is love themselves, be kind to others, & take care of your health (being extremely thin or extremely overweight is unhealthy)
THIS VIDEO IS SO ON POINT! A friend calls me a pick me girl because I do workout and watch my nutrition intake. I wanted to defend but don't know how😭Next time I'm going to slap this video on her face.
tell her to learn what pick me actually means first ✌️✌️✌️
“Pick me” has been so overused that it’s lost all meaning. How TF does you working out mean you’ve got internalised misogyny?
Well. If she‘s u healthy then propose to work out and eat healthy with her. I‘m sure that it will be helpful.
Your friend is ridiculous.
@@Kate-n2310 I assume its being used in a sense of, working out is only to keep your body at a size that is appealing to the male gaze. But it’s a reach for sure😂

Your outfit is beautiful! Dang!
ARFID is not like other ED’s. I got it from accidentally eating spoiled food. My fears are not with food, but with expiration dates and/or seeing food be made in front of me. It’s a mind thing. It has nothing to do with wanting to be skinny.
So glad I dont have tiktok never will. Twitter and tiktok sound like hell.
It all depends on how you curate your algorithm (although twitter is a mess right now so you cant do that). Most of the drama on tik tok escapes me because I curated it to show me cute animal videos instead. All social media can be horrible because humans are the one controlling them. Your personal experience on these apps depends on what you choose to engage with.
too much anything and everything is bad
Always love watching your videos. You always talk on hard topics!
Being content means being grounded in the present. I actually think we severely underestimate the level of skill and discipline required in this practice, even though it can often take decades to master. We want the feeling of being content that comes with the training of a monk, without any of the training and wonder why were left unsatisfied
I am so glad I deleted TikTok in late 2019 (I was 13 at the time) and missed all the “fun stuff”. I probably saved my mental health and body image
i feel like there is absolutely no need to go into extremes in any direction. ofc depends also on ur metabolism etc to adjust ur needs
Visceral fat can kill you
there is an entire middle ground, and that’s what’s healthy. not being overly restrictive and not gorging, either.
as someone who has arfid myself u mentioning how debilitating and serious it actually is means a lot. whenever i tell people i have this disorder they just believe it me giving an excuse for not wanting to explore new foods. like i can’t even have foods touching for me to eat them. it’s debilitating to have to make sure the texture of a food is ok or ill have reluctance even eating my safe foods. not only that but going out to eat is always a struggle, i never know if a restaurant will have one of my safe foods available and not ordering something draws attention to me it’s terrifying. and it’s not like i can even change this i’ve tried even when i was a little kid like 4 i would only eat like 2 foods. it’s effected my health so much and is always brushed aside. people worried im not eating because i think im better then them when that’s not the case. family dinner is horrible because everyone thinks i refuse to eat what everyone else is having because of bad body image when that’s not it, being told im beautiful the way i am and to eat more and different foods doesn’t help it just pushes me away. the topic in the video so nuanced, and i appreciate u bring all points across and completely agree with everything u said
Obesity can increase your health risks by 33% That means 67% of overweight people won't be additionally affected and will live to old age just fine.
Honestly everyone has a social media addiction we all know how hurtful it is but we still use it in the daily
"self improvement or self acceptance"
both
both is good

Just believe in destiny 😉
I wanna deeply thank that person for helping me through my hard times. Because of her now I can proudly say that I ACCEPT my body.😌And maybe one day I will love it. Who knows?😏😊
Hope y'all have a great day 😊🥰🥰
That’s really sweet :)
And most of those things should be on healthier side, but there's so many good food to enjoy that is good for you!!
congrats for 1 million subscribers
i was never the person that like burritos, hamburgers, or hotdogs...even donuts are to much for me most of the time...but i LOVE fruit it tastes like candy to me and fresh vegetables are soooo good!! especially cucumbers!! but people i know want me to eat mcdonald's because they think im restricting myself..no...i just don't like it (but yess i do love ice cream and things like that) i just don't understand how people "care" about what im eating vs what im eating that is actually good for me...i get it ok most people don't enjoy foods i do but that's me and i really just want to eat the way i want without being told im "fat phobic" :/
@Shalom yeah!!! and broccoli is sooo good!!!!
Congrats, you have a normal taste unlike people who prefer processed junk with zero nutritional value. It seems we forgot what normal food really is
Tysm zoe for helping me, 🥺🥺❤
self-acceptance and self-improvement do not contradict each other - the former, when combined with self-love, leads to the latter. in accepting your current state, you're put in a better position to improve yourself. self-acceptance does NOT mean that you think you're perfect just the way you are and should never change. rather, it's about accepting who you fundamentally are (your strengths and weaknesses, good points and flaws, and the types of behavior/thinking you tend towards) and seeing that as the starting point of your journey towards who you want to be. effective self-improvement is a matter of utilizing your natural tendencies to help build the habits needed to get you where you want to be.
the idea that trying to change means that you don't love yourself is completely wrong. loving yourself means doing what is good for you, and if that requires change, then you should make an effort to change. for example, when it comes to food, just letting yourself indulge in massive quantities of junk food on a daily basis is not an act of self-love. oftentimes, when people feel the need to eat more food than they actually need (ie. continue to eat even though they are full), it's an attempt to cover up for a psychological issue. they may not even like the actual food that much or how they feel after eating so much.
Congratulations on 1 million subscribers!! 🥳🥳
It takes so much time though that we can’t be in a place of negativity or we will
lose all motivation quickly.
Why every time when it comes to body positivity we talk solely about weight issue? What about other things like acne, thin hair or just facial features that don't meet the beauty standarts at all and are considered "unattractive". I'm not overweight but have so many bad thoughts about me face... All these plus size models do meet ALL THE FUCKING STANDARD exept weight
denial only makes the emotion stronger is such a good line in general tho
everyone needs to learn to Leave OTHER ppl's body alone
