    You nailed it again. Great tier list. Defender role really depends on your party setup. You could argue Mordred as S but I think A is right in most parties

      Thank you, I appreciate it. I think for me personally and how I generally like to play, Mordred is an S. Like you said though too, I don't think he fits great in every type of team comp so I couldn't put him in S.

    • @leoisacc4339
      @leoisacc4339 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Mordred is S tier for sure. Not only is he tanky as fuck, but he also dishes out insane amount of dmg. He has 2 strength passives on top of carrying excalibur. So 40% dmg increase for just that. Pair that with the chance to do double dmg, 10% weapon dmg potion, +1ap and he's a group wiper on his own

    • @maxxalos1267
      @maxxalos1267  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@leoisacc4339 Idk about that last part if you're playing on higher difficulties like Very Hard, but i do agree that he could be put in S tier. I just don't think he's as universally applicable to all team comps and maintaining the same level of contribution

    Giving a tank whose whole job is to take hits a trait that blocks him if he took too many hits was such a balsy choice.

    Sad to see my boy Pelleas in C tier he's been pretty good for me using defensive stance and guard which buffs up the armour of everyone nearby, giving him decent weapons and armour and his loyalty is good so he gets 20% extra attack too.

    Hey Maxxalos! thanks again for these great videos. I had a quick question and I figured Id ask on your latest video instead of an older one but do you recommend spending essence in the early game? Following your guide I placed Sir ector right away into the enchanted tower and I have racked up enough essence at the beginning of act 2 (on very hard) to purchase the odd relic. Is it worth buying lower level relics or do you recommend saving for the latter half of the game for the higher level ones?

    • @maxxalos1267
      @maxxalos1267  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Happy to provide :). When it comes to essences, it's kind of tough to decide who is "the one" to spend one. Ultimately it comes down to, do you think this is a hero ur going to be using in the long run so you continue to get use out of them having the essence. That is what is most important imo, if it's your first run though you don't know what every hero is like or who you may like playing more than another etc. So for now, if you really like them, it's probably a safe investment. If you come to replace them later, it'll kind of suck but it is not a big problem tbh. You don't NEED essences to win. As for relics, yea, I buy lower level relics in all of my runs because sometimes there are some really strong lower level relics that can really help carry a performance at that point in the game. Sometimes they're strong enough for me to still be using 10 levels later. Hope this helped, if you have some more questions on essences I do have a general guide for that that may be helpful too

    I really like Mordred and The Red Knight. Mordred is so tanky with decent gear he's able to (slowly) kill entire encounters on his own if there's a choke point.
    And The Red Knight is like you say, very versatile and can hit quite hard. I never worked out exactly how mock works though because it seemed that enemies would completely ignore it sometimes. 🤷‍♂

    I love Mordred, but I agree with your list. I would put the Red Knight as a must have because otherwise you have to do the mission to kill him, and that's even worse than the White Knight Mission. I think they have changed a few things since I have been noticing all the missions are much more difficult (as an example, my White Knight almost died in the first encounter, and I was doing everything to protect him, he also had no potions on him, weird).

    • @maxxalos1267
      @maxxalos1267  ปีที่แล้ว

      Certain missions are definitely tougher than other ones. The missions to go fight the red knight are certainly tougher than the missions to recruit him. The opposite however is true for the White Knight. His recruitment mission is really tough but they actually made it a little easier in the newest patch while the mission to go kill him if you're playing old faith isn't really that challenging by comparison.

    I'm going through this game on the Rightful-Old Faith track, and I've struggled every mission I didn't bring Mordred. I thought Percival looked really strong, but his loyalty was an issue, so I had to let him go. Every other defender the game gave me sucked horribly.
    Charge, Thunderbolt and Lightning are such good control, and I've had him stacked with reflect damage (which, obviously I could put on any Defender), so he is usually the biggest source of both damage and control; at least until I got Merlin.

    Can’t believe I didn’t notice until now but after a bit of digging, noticed that Arcanists and Defenders share something in common…they each have an alignment or religion where none of the heroes are that alignment or religion. What do I mean, you ask? None of the Arcanists are Rightful aligned which isn’t the end of the world, but with Defenders it’s more noticeable…there are no Old Faith Defenders (Mordred and Gawain are Neutral, with Galahad and Percival being Christian, Pelleas being Rightful and the Red Knight pure Tyrant).
    So question…if I’m running two Defenders on a Rightful/Old Faith run, who’s better as the second Defender alongside Mordred…Pelleas or Gawain? I suppose Pelleas has the advantage of being Rightful but you did rank Gawain higher. Who would you pick out of the two?

    • @maxxalos1267
      @maxxalos1267  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      If you're running two defenders, I think Gawain is the better option if you remove his negative trait "Conservative" cuz that thing is a pain in the ass. If you're only ever planning to use mordred for story missions and then resort to only having one defender for everything else, then probably pelleas. He doesn't have that annoying conservative trait and is the more defensive option of the two with the guard skill.

    • @Edball980
      @Edball980 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@maxxalos1267 I generally use Mordred for most missions anyway as well as the story ones because between himself and Pelleas, he has load more use especially if positioned right to make up for his lack of a taunt skill. But yeah if I can find a tome to remove a negative trait between now and actually picking up Gawain then I’ll go for him, if not I may as well just stick with Pelleas

    This game is great unfortunately it is very unbalanced. Vanguards and Merlin just cut through swaths of enemies while a champion struggles to move 2 tiles and still have AP to do a basic attack. And don't get me started on rangers, uselessness incarnate. I played a mission where Balin killed like 40 mobs while my champion had one good earthshaker that damaged 3 guys, while dindraine kinda just stood there and Percival tanked. Imo each class except vanguard needs to be buffed and the difficulty risen so that a vanguard is not a must have in every single mission.

    • @maxxalos1267
      @maxxalos1267  2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Champions definitely don't need a buff right now and actually have the highest damage ceiling out of any class. This is an extreme example, but on one fight I was able to break 12k damage in one hit lol. Sounds like you may just be struggling with how to play them. If you are curious I do have videos on this lol. A marksman buff is coming, but they can actually be really strong, they just require a very specific build and are super gear dependent. The other classes I personally think are fine and not intended to be the main damage dealers like vanguards or champions. Defenders are your tanks, they support the party and eat hits. Sages buff the party and arcanists debuff enemies while weakening targets so your main damage dealer can go in and sweep up the enemies. I never run Vanguard personally because I just don't think they're that fun.

    • @TK-zd7ym
      @TK-zd7ym 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      At least for me, Champions shine when you give them Teleport Ring, but if they don't have that, they really have a slow build up through the fight, eventually saving up the AP to wreak havoc, but yes, usually by that time Sir Balin has murdered the entire group of enemies with Surprise attacks and Backstabs.

    It's sad both S tier defenders are in the same alignment, you either get both or none of them 😑

    • @kingbirdIII
      @kingbirdIII 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      It makes sense though because you could argue the best arcanists or elemental damage dealers are old faith. Christian alignment in the lore is more centered around knights in heavy armor. Games about choices

    • @maxxalos1267
      @maxxalos1267  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I have conflicted feelings. I would like to see more of the classes more even spread out just so there are more options in general, but at the same time I do like how the current version puts emphasis on different styles of gameplay though hero selection options which gives different playthroughs more distinct identities and feelings of being noticeably different and not samey.

    • @spitz-mv6zb
      @spitz-mv6zb 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@kingbirdIII that's fair, now I think about it arcanist and sages are worse, they don't have neutral options and almost half of them are locked away in alignment specific missions

      @@maxxalos1267 yeah I think it's fine for people who are gonna play through the game multiple times. But if you are only playing it through once, you are missing a lot.

    • @maxxalos1267
      @maxxalos1267  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@spitz-mv6zb Yea and that just comes into a common conflict of game design. They want the game to be replayable and lots of players are going to replay it, so they want a good and varied experience for that. Meanwhile other players will only play it once and then don't get as much out of it. Whereas the other approach makes a single playthrough better but then worse on replays, it's a tough call.
