- Another class, another tier list. This time covering the Vanguards. Vanguards are fairly homogenous and don't have a whole lot differentiating them like some of the other classes, but this does mean that all of them are really strong. Some do stand out however in both good and bad ways.

Bediveres sprint often comes in a clutch when game puts a high-priority target far away. Totems, banshees, archers, whatever- Bedivere can get to them and start killin' waaay faster than other characters. As such it's a complete waste to build him as a trap guy. He really excels at rushing past everything Turn 1 and then just backstabbing enemy squishes as they slowly close in on the rest of the team.
I played it as an assassin in a game and I liked it, as you say, a few days ago after almost 1 year I haven't been playing, I started another game and now I cheated, and the truth is that if you know how to do it, it works very well
I've been using your advice in my first playthrough to give me a general idea of who to keep. I'm going Christian rightful and your vids have made it way easier to not worry about who to keep, who to boot and if I'm gonna regret it.
The first time I sorta have disagreed is with Sir Tegyr. I'm a major noob compared to you obviously but he has been like the lynchpin of my team so far. Maybe I just stumbled into building him really well (idk what Im really doin in terms of skill point allocation) but he legitimately one hits bosses sometimes. To be fair, I do have some gear or skill that's 10% to do 2×damage. But even when it doesn't proc he is a beast.
I realize youre playing on max difficulty and multiple times through, so you for sure know way more about the game and what's effective. Just had to go to bat for the homie, Ol' Teggy.
Tegyr is a vanguard and all the vanguards are crazy good damage dealers so you really can't go wrong with any of them. If you're going rightful christian then he'll be the best for you alignment wise. This tier list is more for general sense. He has the same skills as Balin so I put him in the same tier. Boudicea does the most damage out of all of them so I put her at the top. Tristan I put above him because he does similar but lower damage and has more utility. He just sucks until tier 3 lol
I had a good mileage out of Tristan during my old faith rightful playthrough. But yeah, often times, you wish his basic attack cost 3 ap. Until you access tier 3, which coincides with the time you get Boudicea.
Thx for all the tier list, real cool! Could you clear something up pls, does the trait while in duel on items apply during duel fights which are only in act 1 or everytime a character is alone against a monster ? thx
The duel term just refers to when your hero and the enemy are in a 1v1 situation. No other units are adjacent to either of them. It is not just during the duel events. Happy to help!
you can argue balin and tygir are te best one cause u can get the loyalty bonus quickly wich gives them 20% more damage than other vanguards and +1 ap, bodecia might have the best skillset but the difficulty of getting max loyalty is a mayor nerf. same with tristan and he doesnt get good until u get the -1ap cost for poison abilities
The extra 1 AP I've found isn't a big deal for vanguards and getting at least 10% on boudicea is extremely doable. At that point she still has higher damage than Balin or Tegyr due to the extra damage upgrade she has on her basic attack. And yea Tristan sucks real hard until you get to his tier 3, thats one of the main reasons hes A instead of S imo

Just played a little with Tristan, I think he may not be so good. He doesn't have access to vigor upgrade from assassination, so he has 1 less ap refund on kill. So he still cost 1 more ap on cleaning mobs and worse against tanks :( Also I've found the debuff resistance works on poison as well, so generally, the bosses and some mini-boss immune to his poison as he has 0 hex intensity.

Balin and Tegyr are the main carry. Boudicea for the lategame, should keep her and let to the sidemissions, till loyalty ~18. Tristan is a trash. Deadwaight at start, no assassination lategame = no ap reagain and no damage. And you put him higher than Balin? He is SS class, he can carry you 90% of the game, Tristan cannot. Balin will fuck your Black knight without the trash mobs!
S-tier: Sir bendivere(Old faith) - This character can set 2 bear trap+lightning trap+activate sprint is 10 movement ap which is teleport+hide in same turn. In essence, Sir bendivere can adapt to any fight. if enemy is far, you can sprint fully to assassinate. If the fight is close, he can peel for your team and still get same-levels of assassination. Its shame this character old faith locked.
A-tier: Tristan- Has strong debuffs, Gas trap in particular is very strong with sages because Alchemist reduces cost by -1 and Inspire reduces it by -2, so it costs 3 AP. Tristan single handlely makes marksman a more viable class. His lifesteal move with all upgrades is really strong for tanking hits and with relic that give regain armor on kill, he is arguably most powerful support off-tank tank in the game which is funny considering his class. He is worst early game vanguard so make sure to put him in training to unlock tier 3 as quickly as possible. By act 3. he is up there with best late game units when not fighting Lost. I would this guy S-tier if not for how bad he is at fighting Lost and how irrelevant his early game is. He can abuses AI really hard with his smokebomb.
B-tier: Balin - Very strong for his gold generation passive. 10% gold is very good. Plays like normal vanguard.
C-tier: Boudicea - Unyielding with flurry makes her 2nd durable vanguard however vanguard are not good at tanking on Very hard. Tristan gets away with it because of poison debuff & the AI abuse on smokebomb. Sir bendivere gets away with it because of his 25% dodge passive and shock application reduces number of attacked enemy hits you though beware of his durability when sprint is on cooldown. Neutral character, so loyalty is hard and overall the character does not offer anything unique that other vanguard do better or equally as good. Her pseudo inspire ability is a waste. your better off just picking a sage at this point. The only place where this character make sense is Christian/Tyrant runs due to loyalty boosting degree.
D-tier: Sir Tegyr - He has strong passive to synergy jousting for extra experience but overall, extra money that Balin provides is usually more useful then Tegyr's bonus. The only reason you will ever use him is because his loyalty is easy to max out.

I was wondering what would happen if 4 vanguards all in hide. Will the enemy just move toward them like not hidden? I tried to hide in duel, the enemy just know where him was.
Love your video. Didn't notice Tristan has less damage than other vanguard at tier 3 before. I checked the wiki, he doesn't have Assassin.
But I think it's worth it, as most of the common enemy would be slain before assassin kicking in.
While against bosses, the poison would be pretty good.
Last time I tested this, the game just doesn't let you put the fourth Vanguard into the hidden state. One of them has to remain visible. Yea, his damage does have a bit of a drop off, but like you said I don't think it's anything critical so taking him for the poison utility is definitely understandable. You may feel it a little more against Famorians in the endgame on Very Hard, but that's fairly narrow.

@@Jeremycook_ Yea, I've read into her story a little bit and I do think it's cool how she was actually real. That's why I wanted to know how her name was pronounced. Part of why at least. I've run into multiple versions including the way I pronounce it. She seemed like a badass.
At 07:04, you mentioned "...experienced enough with the events to know which heroes need to go on...", does it mean that it is not a guarantee that a particular knight will succeed in certain missions? In addition, the tome that you mentioned that will remove a negative trait for Boudicea, is there a way we can farm it/buy it, or it is completely RNG? Thank you!
Correct, not every knight will succeed on every event. As you get further into the game most of them will require specific types of heroes to succeed. It is usually class based and the text will give context clues as to what it will require. As for the tomes, they are rng. Once you reach the endgame the soul merchant sells one as well.

From what I've seen so far, most events that are particular about the knight you send require either a christian, old faith, "hunter" type (vanguard/marksman), "duelist" type (defender/champion), or "wise" type (arcanist/sage) knight to succeed. There's also at least a couple male/female events.

Idk, Balin is a beast. Boudicea trades his ap removing traps for her buff, but the buff is only local and at least for me she is not with the main party, shes in the enemy backline.
For me they at least should be both on top.
She has more damage baked into her kit. Her base damage is literally just mathematically higher because she has an extra damage upgrade. Given how mobile Vanguards can be, there are a lot of fights where they circle back around to helping the front line after taking out the back line in like one or two turns which makes her group buff very useful/viable imo. Balin has the exact same kit as Tegyr and I don't really agree with saying both belong in S next to Boudicea. The fact that she just has the highest damage output is probably the biggest reason she is in S.
That said, all Vanguards are kinda cracked so the difference isn't really that substantial. This is purely from a min/max sort of perspective if you care that much about having everything being "optimal".
I use tristan as a support mainly for smokebomb and perception. Played the game after the vanguard nerf but i think champions are so much better as your main dps because of 2h weapons with the "+8dmg per kill till end of encounter" which stacks. paired with icewall which counts as kill its ridiculous how much my champions outdamages my Boudicea/tristan. champions sage sage tristan was too easy on hardest diffculty and i did not even use the port trinket on my whiteknight since +x movementpoints per kill made him run around as much as he wanted.
Smokebomb into 2 rounds waiting into pretty much oneshotting all enemies in 1 round.
Smokebomb is a really strong way to set up some rounds of damage focus. I personally avoid ice wall kills, but it's really strong and a strong tool at your disposal.
Sir Balin A, Tristan B. Not the other way around. For simple reason you get them early, and 3 or 4 basic attack cost difference means everything.
There's that enemy type that can detect Vanguards from 4 squares away. Don't bring them against that enemy type imho. The devs like their hard counters.
I think bedivere by himself warrants a D class. Agree with all the other picks. May run Boudicea this time.

bruh i cant believe you put tristan in A tier, aside from his attack costing 4AP for half the game, he also doesnt get the perk on his basic attack that gives him an AP every kill, he is just straight up bad untill tier 3 and even then hes just ok, no way he is above balin
Yo Sir Tristian is an absolute beast at debuffing the enemy (if they're not immune to poison) together with the gas trap (another -33% damage) he can nerf a big boss or Fomorian to the ground! Love him, solid A But yeah Boudicea with her flurry backstab to 3 targets and assassination tree...she's nuts and i see people dismiss her for Balin...omg
I think people are just used to using Balin at that point and don't really bother to give her a close look because he's been performing so well so far.
I think the poison blade could do (20% + 10% + 10%) * 150% = 60% damage debuff :) Not sure if the game mechanic works this way. But 20% * 150% + 10 % + 10% = 50% should be ensured :) And... debuff resist should not work against poison.
@@BlastomNuke Yeah yeah neither physical or mental resistance have nothing to do, it's just if they're immune to poison. Also, he can apply it at range with his dagger throw and the range is pretty huge. Add that to the gas trap frielty or whatever is called and your Fomorian will hit like a wet noodle.
You sure about Sprint vs Jump? The ability to position yourself pretty much anywhere on the map, ignoring all overwatch, ready to delete 2-3 (i'm at act 3, does it get better?) targets in the next turn is OP. Bedivere is my bro. Also who the feck is Bowdessia? Its Boo-di-ka :P
I've looked up her pronounciation and there is literally no consistent official one cuz according to different "official" sites they say it differently lol. Also ignoring overwatch is so rare it just doesn't matter. Especially if you're just stealthed while moving. In most fights you can position yourself to kill enemies on the second turn without spring too but also potentially start getting damage in on turn 1. It's also just far more efficient for repositioning on a turn where you don't need to cross the entire map.
@@maxxalos1267 Having looked it up, there does indeed seem to be some debate over the spelling/pronunciation, since they've gone with Boudicea in this game then fair enough! From where she hails in Britain/Wales though it would be Boudica

I think Tristan in A tier is pretty fair, except when you are against lost. Then he is B tier if not C.
