    Just a note on the filter box breather hose , if I recall right pull out the right side radiator fan and you can get to the hose from underneath. It’s two 10 mm bolts is all . You may have access to the two radiator line going to the carb as well .

    Clifford...Just took apart my brothers 1988 Wing to replace the coils and sparkplug cables. This video is PERFECT for making sure all cables and hoses are CORRECTLY installed for the carburetors. Thanks so much for doing the great video and the instruction that were lacking in the service manual...keep up the great work!

    I got some long surgical forceps to reach the hoses. Thanks Cliff for making me look like a genius on my bike. You dare so easy to follow.

    Clifford, I cant tell you how much I appreciate the videos. My uncle gave me a 1993 Goldwing SE that had not ran in about 14 years I used both of your carb videos to aid me in getting it running like a top. I did find a better way to get the difficult hose on the bottom of the filter box, I used a pair of needle nose vice grips on the clamp and the long needle nose pliers you suggested to push the hose in place and then released the vice grips literally took less than a min. to get it on hope this helps in the future. 🙂

    Clifford, thanks for the great videos!!! I have used it to remove and replace my carbs on an 88 1500 wing. I wanted to say that I put on the radiator hoses before I pressed the carbs in place. I had plenty of room to get my hand and hose pliers in there to make sure the hoses were connected up and to the bend as you suggested. It was very simple and pretty much pain free, Now getting the push (lower cable) back on was a real pain. Seems that the adjusting screw has to be placed perfect and then you have to force it. Not as simple as your bike!! Thanks again, You saved me a bunch of money! I started doing the timing belts, no to difficult. You should make this video next! I owe you a beer!

    At 13:25 no need to prime carbs or crank and crank and crank until it picks up. Just get a small shop rag, soak it a little with gas and lay it over the throttle plates opening. It will crank up immediatly as you can position the rag around to get enough gas and air mixture. I have run quite a few engine's without carbs just by using a gas soaked rag and holding it to the side or above an inch or less or so. Amazing how an engine will run like that and us it to prime everything back up again.

    What about the Crankcase Breather Storage Tank? I have a '92 Aspencade and the Honda Service Manual says to remove the carbs to get to it. I just got it and it's got 135K miles and I'm concerned that it needs to be checked and cleaned. The reason I'm concerned is my 1st Wing was a '79 and it started running like crap suddenly and I found out it was the Storage Tank being completely full of crappy looking gunk. Cleaned it and the bike ran smooth again. My '92 seems to be running fine as it is, but I'm concerned about the same problem rearing it's ugly head, especially with this many miles. Thanks a LOT and keep up the good work!!!

    Hi Clifford, do you by chance have a video on changing the throttle cable on this bike ? I have a 1995 SE that I'm assuming would be the same set up as your bike, I put it away for the winter and noticed the throttle not returning back as it should, might just need lubed up but just trying to get a heads up on changing the cable out if needed

Gave you a thumbs up. Do you know of anyone that's bobbed a GL1500? If so, how do they get around all of the vacuume lines connected to the carbs? Shiney side up!

    Thanks for the video. I did this about 3 months before you posted the removal video, I'm sure it would have been an easier job if I would of had these videos to watch first. But I do have to do it again as it's still running a little rough. I'm guessing possible bad vacuum line.? One question is when you do the initial start to check for leaks do you need to let bike warm to operating temperature to get the coolant to flow or will it flow/leak as soon as started if its going to?
    Again thanks for the video. You got a new subscriber.

    • @CliffordRice
      @CliffordRice  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      awdeveau if your checking for leaks you can just run it for a few minutes, just enough to overlook and check that nothing is wrong with it.

    • @awdeveau
      @awdeveau 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Clifford Rice ok thanks for the quick response. I wasn't sure if I had to wait for thermostat to open up or something. It's an 89 that I've been riding for 20 years since I was 15 with a permit and have owned since 2001 when my grandfather passed. But I have let it sit for about 4 yrs and is the worst thing you can do for motorcycle, even in a garage. I'm getting ready to replace slave cylinder for clutch as it will no longer hold pressure even after bleeding it. Figure I'll do it all at once.

    The large hose under the air box..forward right corner...the really bad one to get on. Mine is drawing a wicked vacuum. Any idea where that comes from.....what it is....and why its drawing air out of the air box? The old school mechanic in me said.....plug that sucker.......but i know gl1500 use vac all over the place so i left it hooked up. I mean it was drawing massive amounts of air.....is that normal?

    • @CliffordRice
      @CliffordRice  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      That hose needs to hooked up. Its very important to running right. Yes it normal to be suck alot of air. I'm not sure off the bat where the hose connects too.

  • @pdunc1976
    @pdunc1976 5 ปีที่แล้ว

    just a thought,could you take an internal hose coupling add more hose to make the 2 radiator hoses longer and create a 360 loop so they do not kink.that way you can hook them up while the carbs are still not set down on to the boots.

  • @gw10758
    @gw10758 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    I need to know how to push the carbs down onto the boots.... the boots are very tough and I do not want to pound them down........

    • @94SexyStang
      @94SexyStang 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      little bit of oil around the boots.....block of wood on top of carbs, and hit with small sledge hammer......or get new boots.

  • @wayneharris795

    Hey Clifford. I need to replace one of the push pull throttle cables. From your carb vids I see where the ends connect to. I want to just do it but would feel better if I knew how to route the cable back to the grip. Please post where I can find your vid on that. Thanks. PS- Already have 2 new cables.

  • @JoMusicChannel01

    Hey! Could you possibly tell me some symptoms of bad vacuum lines. Would the bike stall or quit working after so many miles? I have found that the line going to the vacuum pump on the left side of the bike to be dry rotted, would this be the culprit? Too, ONE screw in the air tray is not coming out, I don't want to round it out any more than I think I have. I have used penetrating oil and so forth and no luck at all. What are some tips in addressing this and getting the box out. Sorry for a bunch of loaded questions. Thank you always for your help!

    • @CliffordRice
      @CliffordRice  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      it will run rough, or lack power to name of the few issue. Its possible it could stall out, I say that dry rotted line is definitely a problem. which screw are we talking about, the one that goes into the crab. or the top lid?

    • @JoMusicChannel01
      @JoMusicChannel01 6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The screw in the crab. I will change out the line I have and see how it runs.

    • @CliffordRice
      @CliffordRice  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      Joseph Mosley, yeah that's a hard one. It happens alot, and sometimes it's nearly impossible to get out. If the scerw hasn't been stripped out yet. what I would recommend maybe trying is a hammer and a screwdriver. Tap the screwdriver while trying to turn the screw. If it has been stripped out try cutting a slot into with a small die grinder and do the same thing but with a flathead. When you go to put it back on don't tighten them super tight. That's what happens when people tighten it up to much.

    • @mattsez2879

      If you own a honda.....buy an impact screw driver.....you hit it with a hammer.....its almost a must have
