Thank you, Clifford Rice! Your video made my carb rebuild SO MUCH EASIER. I watched the video several times to make sure I did not forget anything. Thank you!
Thank you very much Cliff for all the details and your time. I finished my 88 GL 1500 today (a vacuum hose was broken)...carb removal, cleaning and reinstallation....two days!
Thank you very much. You are doing an honest job. God be with you. I just bought a 1996 Goldwing 1500 interstate from Germany and your video was a godsend for me. It only works with the shock pulled and rev variations. So I decided to remove the carburetor. I hope to put it back...........hahahaha. Greetings from Transylvania.🏍🏍🏆
Hi Clifford, great video. I own a 1989 Goldwing and your video has hit all cylinders my friend. I will tell others of the huge information you have provided in working on the older Goldwings. You were thorough and clear about what to do and though I have never delved this far in repairs, I feel with this video......I can do it. Thanks so much for sharing your knowledge on this type of repair. Oh, I like the music too. Great Video to watch and learn.....you da man.
Thank you so much for making this video. It helped me remove and clean my carbs. And not to forget, reinstall. I had forgotten where the idle adjustment knob went, now I know. I did modify my vent hoses. They still go to the same place, but they are easier, (at least to me), than the factory tee that was broken. I did not like that the hose would touch the throttle wheel. It now has plenty of clearance.
Clifford. Like all your videos they just get better and better. Loved the upbeat music and fast forwards of the slow stuff. And Star Wars !!! You tell it like it is. We all really appreciate it. When you were struggling with the Airfilter Box, I knew I could add some value to your work. Buy a high quality can of Silicone Spray. I recommend "KEL" brand and the Food Grade Pure Silicone. It will take 1/2 or less effort to put suborn hoses and lines back on. I always shoot some on the ID of the hose/tube and then the same on whatever I am trying to connect. It works so well you will never do it dry again plus it helps to preserve the hose/line from drying out and cracking. If you send me a P.O. Box address, I will send you a can.
Nine turns out on the boot clamps will loosen enough without the screw falling out. Thanks for making the video. I used it to pull the carb and rebuild the accelerator pump.
Hi your videos are awsome for figuring this stuff out thank you. Do u have any videos on changing the thermostat thermal sensor switch and the water pump
WOW! those cables were a trick, Clifford (as were those radiator hoses & air filter assembly too - dang); impressive, man. this is one helluva' compilation & after having watched it, thought better of tackling this on my own... too many 'booger-bears' for this Winger/ Subscriber!! nice work, C.R. - you got'cha some seriously mad skills ;-)
One other thing that I will mention if anyone cares, is the drain hoses for the carb bowls. There is ABSOLUTELY no way to reach the screw plugs in the float bowls in the first place. It is just one more hose that is not needed. I had one of the tees that go to the vents break, so I replaced the hoses with 1/4" brake line for the hose that is behind the throttle cable wheel. It cleaned up the area, and now the hose will not touch the throttle wheel. I did similar to the other vent pipe. I have tooling to bend brake line, but you could use copper tubing that is easy to bend instead of the steel brake line. I got a small "Dorman" vacuum fitting assortment that has adapters that go from 1/4" to 1/8" so that I could use the special place on the right side of the engine to route the hoses into their respective holders. It works awesome, and if I ever needed to remove the carbs at a later date, I just pulled the top section of the vent hoses with the carb.
Clifford those three drain hoses are the loose that goes all the way to the bottom of the bike frame? Maybe tie some rope or add a splice and pull the hoses up a little bit so you have more room to work then pull them down as you lower the drain trey?
Hi Cliff I want to thank you for sharing your knowledge and time creating a video. Just great I have a 94 wing se with leahman trike kit. I has been sitting for 3 years do to health problems. It was running ruff last time I rode it and now it only runs & start whith choke on but the minute I throtle it it kills even when warmed up. So I think I need to get carbs out, I think maybe from no lead gas and not running. Question Do you think the gentlmen that went through your carberators would be interested in doing my carbs. I could ship them. and I think I heard you say he synconize the carbs also. thanks much, AEB
Great video Clifford. Question, I just bought a 1995 goldwing. The guy who had it before me rebuilt the carbrators. The engine is hard to start cold and pulses at idle. The tailpipe on the left side is starting to turn dark and you can smell un-burnt fuel. No fuel is dumping out the bottom. I think that I have a bad vacuum line or cracked intake boot. Your thoughts would be greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave
Hi Clifford. Could you make a video of how to change the main coolant temperature sensor? The one on the right side of the engine that plugs into the intake manifold. It sounds like a lot of people are having trouble with surging idle and that this frequently is the fix. The little bit that I can find online, and I do mean little, says that you can do it by removing the lower fairing and the cooling fan. How the heck do you get the cooling fan and it shroud out of there so that you can get to the sensor? Thanks
Hey Cliff, I was wondering if you have ever got into replacing the coolant overflow tank. I believe mine is leaking and for the life of me can't find any videos out there. Was hoping to find something before I dig into it. Love your stuff so was hoping you had some knowledge on it. Thanks in advance.
Did you ever figure out if the bolt that holds the top of the engine guard (yours has your highway bars bolted to the guard) goes all the way thru or is one on each side and just screws into a mount. Right now I can grab my guard and just rotate them down due to no bolt in the top of them. cant see very well in there until the lower fairings are removed. I am curious. Thanks Clifford. can you send your email again.
I am halfway theru removing carbs but thewre are sooooooooo many vacuum hosaes! Is there a reference of some sort showing me how to reconnect them all?
This reply is 11 months old, but just incase others wonder the same thing, I marked all of the hoses, cables, etc, with paint markers. I had yellow, blue, red, and black. I also marked with said paint markers lines that I could line up so the the angle of the bends is correct.
@@Goldwing1500rider That would work for the connections, but that wouldn't work for the orientation. The orientation clues helped me a lot more than I thought it would. I got the carbs all cleaned out and the bike ran great. I then sold it, because I just did not ride it much any more.
Great video. My husband is doing this now and it has helped a lot. Thank you. Could you give me the contact info for your carb guy? I would like to have ours done.
Can you tell us how you have rebuild the carb. I found a guy on eBay in Wisconsin that will rebuild and ship the carb back for 200$. If you can pass along a name or website for him that’s be HUGE!! I’ll pay good 💰💰💰
I got soooooo irritated putting that front right hose on that I took off the right side fan and cut that bloody hose in half and spliced it back together after I was done. The fan is a pain too, but it is doable, at least it was for me and my huge hands.
I just stopped right at this point in the tear down on my 97. Screws are loose and everything. I knew once I got that front right hose and clamp off that breather, I was at the point of no return. That was three days ago. Afraid to go back. Now that you said that, I know my hands are in for a hell of a beating.
@@chrisa9373 After you get the carb assy off and over to the bench, take lots of pictures. Every angle of the carb assy. I got mine all cleaned and reassembled. It ran fine. I then sold it!!! I never rode it any more, so it was just costing me money just sitting there. Do NOT use that damn ethanol gas in your machine after you get it all back together. I do still ride my XT600, and I use ethanol free fuel in it. I use ethanol free fuel in ALL of my small engines. (lawn mowers, chain saws, etc.)
Just wanted to drop a big THANK YOU for the encouragement. Between your videos and th-cam.com/video/tjSPKY1sHM0/w-d-xo.html, I was able to remove my carbs, separate them and clean out the jets and circuits. She's idling without the choke now. Can't wait to see how she rides.

Ha Just noticed all the RA magnets on your cabinet. That's a lot of orders! I have a wall myself ;-)

Hemistats work great on those throttle cables !
Awesome video, appreciate you for all your time and efforts in putting these videos together, so helpful!. Thankyou.
Ok this is making me change my mind about buying an old goldwing, you have to remove most of the bike to do anything
Buy one not a big deal after you remove the first time. They are beautiful bikes.
