How to synchronize the carbs on a 97 GL1500 Honda Goldwing

- Make sure the engine is up to operating temperature before syncing the carbs. The Clymer manual says the gauge readings should be within 40mm (1.6 in HG) or less. If not, then adjustment is required. It will take some time to get it perfect. Adjust a little, blip the throttle a couple of times and let it stabilize, repeat if necessary. You will probably be adjusting the idle during this procedure. Clymer manual states the idle rpm should be 800rpm plus or minus 80rpm. This is great, awesome video for sure. i didn't have one of those back in the day (early 90's) even though I had been riding all through the 80's i was just a kid. but i got a xs850 Midnight special to replace my sadness with something to ride after I sold my Suzuki EZ 1000 , on both of those bakes, even way back then, it was costly to get the carbs synced. My xs850 is still with me! I think I might put that little guy back on the road. . regardless though, just looked the simple to use unit you have there up and it;s only around 100 bucks! Cost me more than that on each of those occasions I was just talking about. the 850's fun but it is nothing like the EZ. those are old now and hard to find. I gotta find some guy that is way too scared of his Hyabussa maybe and see what i can pick one up for. :0) but also, it would be cool to know the GL1500 is all synced up, it does seem to be using a lot of gas and could be a little more Zippy. my Shinkos are on the way! I am going to bolt down the tire machine to the slab out back tomorrow and get those old tires off. I went ahead and ordered the shinko combo from Chapparal tired of trying to mess around with those people at cycle gear and the rebate forms. Grrrr
Yeah chapmoto seems to be pretty decent on prices and not too bad on newer tires ( year or less ) I think my Morgan carbtune paid for itself the first time I used it and every time since has been free of charge. The funny thing is, carb sync is simple to do and very satisfying to get it right. No technician cares about your bike being right more than you do, so in most cases it will be more precise when you do it yourself.

Hi there , just so you know on your cooling fan housing there is a little rubber piece that can be removed so you can reach the vacuum adjustment screw easier, the same thing on The other side for adjusting the cable for the cruise actuator ,its so hard to see in there but if you have a lift it makes it easier to view the adjustment cable.

Hello Sez, you are right, it is a pita to locate and keep the screwdriver on the screw but once you get it set you shouldn't have to mess with it again for quite a while. Nothing worthwhile is easy, so they say, ha ha
their is only one adjuster screw that does both carbs ?
Yes sir, what you are trying to do is move the setting on one carb to the fixed setting on the other carb. That way they both will open and close at exactly the same time
