I’m not a baked chicken fan but my wife is so I’ll be sure to make this for her this week. Ugh....need to get the roasting rack for mine. Did you consider brining the chicken before to make sure it stays juicy? Yep the smile when you take that initial bite tells the whole story! Can’t wait to make it. So I don't have a Ninja Foodi Grill, but this recipe looked to good not to try. I'm in the processing of proving that although I love my convection oven it does not work as well as the grill. So I followed the recipe exact (including the Applewood from McCormick - totally loved that) and the only place I screwed up is I put on the BBQ sauce before I checked the internal temperature. So by the time the chicken was done the outside was just a hint darker (ok almost black) than I would have preferred. For about the same size bird it took a little over an hour. The important part was despite the challenges the chicken tasted AWESOME, and I will definitely bd making this again. So Ninja Foodi Grill - 1 / Convection Oven - 0...Stay tuned! ;>)!

    I made this today with a 7 pound bird. Well, that’s what the package said. Anyway, just for a bit of extra room in the air crisper basket I removed the wings. Obviously it had to cook longer than 45-50 minutes.
    Bottom line, I used only butter under the skin and garlic pepper seasoning and oil on the skin. I think it took about 60-70 minutes. Absolutely fantastic. I’ve cooked many rotisserie and roasted chickens and never have had the breast meat be as tender and juicy as the dark meat.
    Thanks for another great recipe Lisa, wonderful job. Very nice work.

    Got my Ninja Grill yesterday and made a whole chicken, right away!
    Flattening it out, by removing the spine is such a neat trick. That and the butter. It was done, exactly when expected and even the breast meat was very moist and tender.
    I omitted the barbecue sauce and should have cranked the heat up a little more towards the end, I think, the skin could have been just a tad crispier...but compared to cooking in an oven, this is so much easier 👍

    What is the difference of why you air crisp as opposed to bake? Broil would probably cook to fast. I have to try this again, since the dark meat was cooked, but not the white meat to temperature. It seemed uneven cooking. Another point, the functions are all from the top, so the only thing different among them is the default temperature settings.

    • @nowakezoneforever6021
      @nowakezoneforever6021 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I thought the same about the functions until I checked each function. Besides the default time differences, each function has a different temperature range with some overlap. The biggest difference is fan speed. The grill function is the highest, air crisp and roast are the same and slower than the grill, and the bake fan speed is slower yet.

    'Do you want to make this, in your Ninja Foodie Grill?'
    'Oh YES, yes I do!' 😄
    But seriously, though...I was just looking to buy some airfryer type like appliance, because I have to make do with a tiny appartement kitchenette for the next year...then someone recommended the Ninja Airfryer over the Phillips one...and here we are!
    So, this thing can do everything, an Airfryer can, plus steaming and such? It's true 'double duty', not a compromise? Because if so, I'm sold. That chicken looks absolutely mouthwatering!
    Edit: oh, now I see, that's a different gadget again. I came from a different video, where you used the multi purpose one, to make a steak.
    Guess, I'll have to look for a direct comparison video, to clear up my confusion!

      Thanks! I just watched a couple more videos of yours and I've already placed an order for the ninja foodi grill 😀
      I used to have a Phillips Airfryer a while ago and kinda liked it...but it didn't quite satisfy me enough, to replace it, when it broke. This one has all the features, that are missing in the Airfryer: higher temperature, splatter protection and a proper grill plate.
      I like a good roast, but most of the time, I just cook for myself...so the idea of being able, to grill steak and burgers and such 'to perfection', without all the splatter and persistent smell associated with panfrying, has me sold!

    Being a fan of sous vide cooking, do you think the the skin would crisp up comparably if you sous vide the whole thing to 130 degrees and cranked the grill on high for 10 minutes to finish the last 35 degrees to 165? I’ve seen recipes for doing turkeys which call for slow cooking at low temp and cranking it up for the last 20 minutes. I could never make that work. Dried that turkey out like a cotton ball. Pressure cooking the turkey I never perfected either. Maybe should try it once at low pressure. I end up sous vide the turkey parts and brown them with a propane torch. It shouldn’t take that much effort, but it sure tasted right.
    I hope Aunt Ruth got her disco ball back up after you left. You know John Travolta is single again.

    • @pressurecrisp

      Hmmm.....It may dry out the. breast meat-it takes a bit to crips up. the chciken skin and may overcook. it. Not. sure if you could. refrigerate it then crank Grill and crisp it up-not sure if it would heat. the entire chicken. yeah I like the ....searzal - I think that it is what it is called to finish a steak after sous vide.
      I just read your comment. again-sorry getting tired. It may work like you said if you sous vide to. 130F then crisp up in the Grill. This may be something we have to try. and I. wonder if you could brine the chicken first then sous vide and finish on the Grill. Long process but may be worth it.

      @@pressurecrisp I think it’s very cool how active you are in addition to working, taking care of your family, and producing a TH-cam channel.
      The spatchcocked 7lb chicken fit into the air crisper pan with no problem. I ended up cutting off the wings to make a bit more room. I have to say the legs are touching the sides. I’m confident they will cook just fine, maybe not be as crispy at those spots. Plenty of room above it. Really looking forward to cooking it this evening.

    Girl, that chicken was picture perfect !! I have made Spatchcocked chicken in the NFG, but I like the seasoned butter trick was awesome !! I have cooked more chicken in the NFG than anything, it is perfect for skin on !
    Thanks for the video ! PS. I didn't notice your hair because I think it always looks good - I did notice that the canner magnet is still missing.....

      Hehehe.... canning season to start in August so it you may see it soon-lol. Tomatoes and salsa very soon and beef stew! Yeah I. tried it. plain but not as good mix. it with butter very. good.
      I love this without BBQ sauce as well but I usually do chicken thighs-so, so good! Think its my favorite to do in the Grill! Skin so crispy!
      Awwww thanks about my hair. and you watched the whole video-thanks! felt so good to get the hair done and so much quicker-lol.

    I did notice your hair Lisa it looks lovely and you can sing too LOL!! See I did watch right to the end LOL. You certainly made Mr chicken very colorful he looked gorgeous but can you tell me does a chicken not fit in the Ninja Foodi Grill with the lid down then, do you have to cut him about like that and flatten him to get an average chicken in Lisa?

    • @pressurecrisp
      @pressurecrisp  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi David! lol Yay you watched to. the end but I think you watch all of them to. the end. Thank. you! I either whistle or sing and always have to edit these parts out lol. I did a video on a whole chicken in the Grill-you have to purchase a smaller chicken. 4 pounds/1.78KG or smaller and you would start them breast side down then flip after. 30 minutes and it should be done in another 30 minutes-give or take a few minutes. I usually spatchcock a chicken to cook on the outside BBQ grill- I put large skewers through he bird to be able. to turn the bird. lol.
      Oh. my -my hair was awful-lol. I wasn't able to get it done until. the other day-lol. Places were closed and then when they reopened I was in Vegas and I called. to make appt from Vegas-this was as soon as I could get in. Not. to. sound vain-lol.:)
      And enjoying myself in the kitchen! Now I have toted to the backyard-lol and pick some-well cut some rosemary and thyme for a brined chicken-doing that one tomorrow.
      Already sent a txt out to people who want free food Lol.
      Thanks David!
