  • Dell, under the badge of Alienware, has created a bastardized mess of a 3090. Surprisingly, it performs rather well when it is allowed to breath. Today we are opening up this card and seeing what lengths Dell has gone through to keep this powerhouse cool. Then we slap an EKWB Waterblock on it and cross our fingers!!!

    Looks like EKWB has updated the card compatibility and the RE block is suggested for Alienware. This is nice because it also supports the active backplate. Thanks for the vid!

    do you have a link for this waterblock and backplate?

    Good work. Will there be follow up videos regarding installing 3090/Waterblock back into the R11/R12? Do you need to purchase an additional AIO/radiator for the waterblock?

      Also curious about this. I don’t really want to spend more money on a new case and additional components…

    I was on the fence on this Dell "Salvage" plan and you threw way our to the (correct) side!! :) :) Thanks Man!!! If you could, can you link the EK block?? I am bit confused here with Founder's edition vs Reference card fiasco. Thanks again a bunch!

  • @STARGAUD

    You put a reference water block or is it a founders edition waterblock? Isn’t there a difference? i have the dell 3090 as well and am looking to go water cooled.

    How do you change the lighting on the RTX logo?

    9:30 and 11:10, you keep saying this is a FE water block. That must be a mis-quote. FE block is a different design, shorter, with the water connectors on the end rather than the side. This must be a REF block that EKWB lists as compatible with the Dell/Alienware 3090?

    Hey Bartman. I have the same RTX 3090 from Alienware. I love the detail in your video, but I will not be doing the water cooling mod. Question: if I’m taking apart the piece you’re pulling off at 07:47 in your video and re-assembling it, do I need to redo the thermal pads or can I just keep the ones Dell provided? I’ve heard of people just reassembling their GPUs, but in your video it looks like half of the thermal pads were stuck to each other. They look torn. Also, in general, if you disassemble your GPU, do you always need to reinstall new pads? Or can you just throw it all back together?

    • @BartmansBits
      @BartmansBits  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The thermal pads are stick on type from Dell so they tear when removing. It’s best to clean off everything carefully and then replace them. Make sure you get the right thicknesses to maintain the correct pressure. Replacing them won’t have a major impact on cooling but reusing the torn ones might.

    I wish you could of shown the whole procedure of installing the water block, adding fluid and fitting it into the tower. I just bought an r10 with the Ryzen 5 5600x. and GTX 3090. I've always wanted to install a water block. Its for my son basically. But the cost of the water blocks are pretty crazy. And the guys putting them into ailenware computers and not huge on youtube. Anyway thanks for sharing this video, I subscribed today.

    good afternoon friend, I am going to buy a renamed rtx 3070 on Aliexpress but it is from the Dell OEM brand and I wanted to know if you think the construction is good? Does the board get too hot? Is its speed the same as other manufacturers?

    What as the memory temp? I dont go by the chip temp as the chip seems to be adequately cooled the big problem is the memory temps on the back.

    • @loveislife77
      @loveislife77 3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Memory temp on these are well over 100c, usually sitting around 108c

    All the 3090's get hot, when I bought my 3090 TUF GAMING OC it was running about 65c to about 75c coming from a 2080 Super it was a bit of a chance I was getting 45c to about 60c. I'm still getting great performance out of it even still I have noticed an thermal throttling from my 3090 tho I've had it for about 2 months going now. I also have it hooked up to a ASUS TUF GAMING B550 Pus motherboard and a 3950x. So all and all I think I've got a good system that is cooled well. These 3090's just get hot I guess.

      Question- what’s the number for the fans that is blowing up to cool the vram? I use msi/af for the fan control and I have it set to sync and would like to change to manually have that fan slightly higher to help the vram temp. I don’t get in the benchmark scores and I only play DCS and the R11 and it’s 3090 do a very good job at it. The vram usually plays at 92-96c and overall gpu temps at 72c not bad as I do not overclock the card it does very well stock for what I need it to do. I also don’t overclock the cpu I find this rig does just fine at 4.8-4.9ghz.. going above 5.0 GHz is unstable and throttles like all hell. I’m also using the offset thermals manually for the DCS and have no thermal issues. But yeah do you know what the 3090 fan numbers are so I can set that accordingly.
      Thanks !

    How do you control the speed on the GPU fans???

    • @BartmansBits
      @BartmansBits  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You can control them using MSI afterburner and creating a custom fan curve

    I've actually dell rtx 3090 , if i install a watercooling system on it the overclock it , will overclocking damage my gpu in the future even with water cooling? And thank you

    • @BartmansBits
      @BartmansBits  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Overclocking will not damage your GPU if you do it properly and watch your temps. Go for it!

  • @user-uz2wo5uf1z

    Are these Dell GPUs proprietary? I’ve heard some say you are unable to swap them over to a new build while others have claimed to do exactly that. I have a dell 6800xt and want to give it a new home but don’t want to waste money on a new mobo, case etc if it’s non compatible

    • @BartmansBits
      @BartmansBits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I currently have this 3090 on a completely new build with no components from the original Dell machine installed. It is just as compatible as any other card so go for it!

    Привет. Какая точная модель водяного блока?

  • @oscarasesyan9946
    @oscarasesyan9946 2 ปีที่แล้ว

    Does this fit directly in the Alienware case? Also, what is the vram temps?

    • @BartmansBits
      @BartmansBits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      It is possible to setup a water cooling loop in the Alienware case but it would take heavy modification and there isn’t a lot of room for radiator/reservoir. Best to shelve that case and get something more water cooling friendly.

    • @BartmansBits
      @BartmansBits  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      VRAM temps are nominal due to the large surface area of the metal backplate. It’s best to have airflow over the backplate to further aid in cooling

      @@BartmansBits Funny you used an FE waterblock. I just installed Reference design one and it was spot on on RAM and VRMs. Now waiting for another waterblock for my 3080 FE, will compare dimentions.

      It’s best if you check on EKWB site. They have a compatibility list. This video was before the 3080ti was released and I haven’t been back to check.
