@@DawidDoesTechStuff can you do a comparison for us olds that explains what the different series cards is good for? I know you’re about games, but which are better for editing, for CAD, for VR, etc.. Your knowledge seems copious and I live for the metaphors
@@markfriesen1435 I will give you a (maybe not 100% exact) explanation. So the gt series was meant for games, but since most of them were released in 2009-2012 or so, they aren't keeping up well nowdays, even though they were good for their times. You can find them today in some older laptops/PCs but they are not worth buying anymore if you want to game. The GTX(maxwell/pascal arhitecture) lineup , is also meant for gaming, they also do well in video editing. These cards are still good today(except de GTX 1050 2gb, and the 1060 3gb, because they have vram limitations). If you want to play recent games the gtx 1070 and 1080 are gonna hold up well. The new turing gtx cards(1650,1660 are pretty good 1080p gaming cards too). The RTX(turing arhitecture) lineup ,along with the 20 and 30 series are really good for gaming and streaming because they have onboard encoders(the gtx ones also have them, but they are slightly weaker). The rtx lineup does really well in video editing too. The titan cards (gtx titan, rtx titan) were just as strong in gaming as the best card from each lineup(rtx 2080ti-rtx titan) because the only difference between them was that the titan had a lot of vram and a few more cores. So, the titan cards were specially made for heavy video editing and some 3d modeling (all sorts of content creation). The Quadro(Pascal/Turing arhitecture) lineup was meant for extremely heavy modelling, rendering, editing, and all other sorts of application that need a lot of Vram. These are more dedicated to those programs than the titan cards, the Quadros being the best for editing. The gtx/rtx for gaming/streaming. The titans for a mix between gaming/editing. The gts for very light gaming or web browsing. For VR the gtx and rtx cards will do their job really well.

I put a lower profile Noctua fan in in order for my 3080 to fit. It was in an older Aurora R7 which looks like it has a virtually identical intake fan set-up and clearance as this one.
If you actually wanted the 3070 in the Alienware case, you could probably fit a slim 15mm fan in the front. It won't move as much air, but it would definitely be better than nothing.

You should do a video about upgrading the CPU cooling on this to a corsair H60 (and maybe adding another ML120 Pro to that rad, connecting it to the mobo with a PWM y splitter). A LOT of people on r/buildapcsales just bought a ryzen package that doesn't have air cooling and I almost guarantee they'll be looking for a guide/before and after of adding that AIO, which is pretty much the only one that fits in a r10/r11. Great Video!
Dawid some info on the power connectors: GIGABYTE did the same power connector solution on their 3080s/3090s at launch and they have since revised it because a lot of people were having issues with the molex connectors physically disconnecting when plugging/unplugging the pcie cables, and if that happens to you have to dismantle the whole card to correct the issue. Interesting that Gigabyte has the same thing on the 3070 though I'm sure they already have 2nd revisions they're manufacturing for the 3070 too. I do know that Gigabyte's EU support was offering 2nd revision replacements for anyone who has these early gigabyte models at least for the 3080, so I imagine they would do the same for your 3070 if it ends up problematic.
I always use gigabyte gaming oc cards for all my gpu upgrades. They have had the best cooling out of the majority of other gpus with their windforce fan setup. They run quiet, cool and overclock really well. My gaming oc 2070 is over clocked to 2060mhz and stays around 60 degrees. Gigabyte is hands down the best bang for buck gpu and I will continue to use them in every build. I'm pretty sure they are usually the cheapest cards too compared to msi asus and others except evga. I have have never had an issue with any of my gigabyte cards, and they have been overclocked every day for years
Still going well with the R11 Andrew? I just pulled the trigger on a 10900k with 3080 and had concerns about temps. But your post is very reassuring! Doing any mining on the side with that beast?
This is close to what I did with a 3070 in my R7. I7 8700, previously replaced stock CPU fan with Corsair AIO. Front HD replaced with a Noctua NF-p12, under load CPU/GPU ~75 C, idle ~45 C. other add ones m.2 Samsung 970 pro, added 32 Gb different branded on top of the existing 16, PSU swapped for a Corsair 850w. And stacked like 4 ssd various older drives for a 1Tb of pooled storage and 7200 2tb disk storage. Not pretty to look at, odd memory config, but runs stable. Lots to to criticize there, starting with why not build from scratch lol
Air-cooling the CPU on the Ryzen AW machines is a joke. I got the 3900 (non-x) back in April 2020 and the configurator page made me think it would come with the AIO, but no...and the temps immediately spiked at 97c. I put a Corsair H60 in and now it runs in the 36c range at idle with all cores at 4000. (They changed the configurator page 2 weeks later to show that it was air-cooled with my options). Anyway, good to know that even the 3070 won't fit without mods. Thanks for putting this up!
Humming along with a off the shelf GIGABYTE RTX 3090 Turbo in my R11. Only 3090 I found that would fit. I had to change my front fan to a slim but that’s the only mod I had to do. Fan orientation is good as well. Exhaust points down instead of up towards the GPU.
Can you PLEASE do more of these?! We need to see more of these old parts & new parts miss-matches. What this showed me is, if you are doing a slow PC upgrade, you can temporarily put in a new GPU into current PC while slowly getting the other components. I've also been curious to see how old PC also handle newer 3200ghz Ram.
I believe your CPU temp is higher due to the new graphics card. Dell wants their graphics cards to expel heat from the system, with your new setup the GPU is sending warm air to the CPU.
I'm a bit late but wanted to make a suggestion. I don't own an R11 (still have my trusty R7), but from the video (7:36) it looks like there are vent holes on the bottom of the case. Why not mount the in-take fan there? Just a thought. Great vid by the way!
The problem with prebuilds is they tend to put the bare minimum in to meet the advertised spec, and the biggest saving they make is the PSU. I can't count the amount of times someone with a prebuild that's tried to upgrade and found it doesn't work, and when i've looked at it i've found the reason it isn't working is because the prebuild PSU is something like 200w and they're trying to add a modern GPU to it lol.
funny how I did the same thing putting a 4070Ti in Aurora R12, I had to take the bottom fan off to fit the GPU in, and the temp has never gone above 80C
Besides your great contents, I solely watch your videos because I love your sense of humor and I decided to subscribe to your channel only after 2 years. Keeping it coming mate lol 🥰
What about a 3080FE or Asus TUFF 3080. I've heard it should fit with a noctua fan. Is it easy to upgrade to upgrade the cpu aswell? This case isn't known for it's good airflow. Don't know where you got that idea? Pretty curious if it doesn't run to hot
I installed EVGA 3080 in the same case without the front fan. It runs Firestrike and Time Spy stress tests over and over again. Max GPU temp was 85C and passed the test every time. The power supply design is stupid. Had to remove the triangular brace to put the PSU back in place...
Good job Alienware you made something worth wild. Im waiting for the arrival of my Alienware with a rtx 3080. Pre built fitted with an i7 and you guessed it an rtx 3080 lol. Lets see if the temps will be horrible, they shouldn’t considering I only do casual animation and gaming.
you also didnt mention or notice when you put the gpu into the alienware build that the gpu was not hitting its full potention in games with the utilization only hitting between 50-70% instead of the usual 98% which would account for the performance drop in the fps and the thermals.
What the, so this compact Alienware has better thermals than a mesh case? That's pretty crazy. Btw, what happened to the gpu from the Alienware? Are you able to use that like any other gpu in another system or are there limitations?
It’s interesting that in a he US the 3070s hardly lasted at all, but in the UK, they lasted for around 5-7 hours. Well after the launch there were gigabyte cards on amazon, and the took a while to go out of stock of any card on the UK Newegg.
Dawid, thank you for the videos and great content. I love watching and learning a thing or two. I have a very strange question do you know if the CORSAIR DOMINATOR PLATINUM DDR4 RAM will fit in this case? I ordered this pc and wanted to upgrade the memory. Thank you in advance.

I have have never had an issue with any of my gigabyte cards, and they have been overclocked every day for years
Got an R11 myself with an I9-10900k and 3090 and my GPU doesn’t go above 70 at full load and CPU hovers around 65
I've also been curious to see how old PC also handle newer 3200ghz Ram.
can it fit in a RTX 3080? The RTX 3080 is 42mm larger then the 3070
I believe your CPU temp is higher due to the new graphics card.
Finally got one! Not bothered about watching the video, just wanted to say well done!
funny how I did the same thing putting a 4070Ti in Aurora R12, I had to take the bottom fan off to fit the GPU in, and the temp has never gone above 80C
Besides your great contents, I solely watch your videos because I love your sense of humor and I decided to subscribe to your channel only after 2 years. Keeping it coming mate lol
🥰
use the bottom slot for the GPU. it fits internally better and you can get a slim fan to support putting the side panel back on.
the bottom slot only runs at 8x or 4x pci-e not 16x
Love the vids could watch this man for hours
What about a 3080FE or Asus TUFF 3080. I've heard it should fit with a noctua fan.
Is it easy to upgrade to upgrade the cpu aswell?
This case isn't known for it's good airflow. Don't know where you got that idea? Pretty curious if it doesn't run to hot
I installed EVGA 3080 in the same case without the front fan. It runs Firestrike and Time Spy stress tests over and over again. Max GPU temp was 85C and passed the test every time. The power supply design is stupid. Had to remove the triangular brace to put the PSU back in place...
2 weeks later, still can't buy any New GFx cards including this one. 😭😖
I'm sure there's some thin fan that you can purchase to replace the previous one.
Let’s go my mans Finally is getting some recognition
I really like the aesthetic of that alien ware case.
How’s the temps ?
@@walterwhite9442 i have water cooling and max ive gotten out of it was like 78 to 80 no higher than 80
@@TheGameBest7 bro. I’m thinking of buying alienware aurora with i9 rtx 3060 so I can play fortnite. Is it worth ?
@@walterwhite9442 i mean yea but those specs may be a bit over kill for fortnite lol but its ur choice not mine
you also didnt mention or notice when you put the gpu into the alienware build that the gpu was not hitting its full potention in games with the utilization only hitting between 50-70% instead of the usual 98% which would account for the performance drop in the fps and the thermals.
It's just not the same without Dawid getting tazed at every mishap.
Sept 2021, supply still hasn't stabilized....
This market blows...
