I feel like they’re doing great for Japanese manufacturer that has to cope with Japanese market (which has long been different from American market until very recently). Samsung and other cool Chinese brands finally started to take over the android market in Japan, so I hope they’ll find some ways to focus on it better in near future. Though honestly I feel like they’re going to sell Xperia brand like they did for their PC brand (Vaio) instead of investing more.

I've been using Sony smartphones for the last 14 years! I love Sony. My pc screen is Sony, my ereader is Sony and I just bought a Sony 7ii 24-70 camera. I cannot afford that phone right now, but it seems a real PRO! Thanks for making this video.

I doubt there are many streamers that need 4k feeds and are big enough to justify that price tag. But yeah, maybe more than 30 then.

Honestly, this is a fucking terrible external monitor. You can get really good, professional-grade 7 inch monitor from SmallHD with SDI instead of micro-HDMI for $900, and there are plenty of other options for far less money. This is only good for streaming.

I think they are on the right path, with just a few features here and there (especially around the camera & the defiantly the touch screen when it is attached) and that demographic might be a lot larger than you think
ive had a xperia xz1 compact since 2017 and it hasnt age a day, it still works perfectly
Marques or anyone who may need to hear this: go into the camera’s menu, go to HDMI settings, then switch “display hdmi info” to off. This will put the phone into full screen mode, and it will turn your camera’s screen back on. You’ll have those touch screen controls back. At least this is how it works on my A7iii and external monitor!
Also you could try pressing the "display" button on the camera to cycle through various overlay options. On certain cameras this will make the monitor feed full screen.

Honestly, the reason I am considering an Xperia is because I dont do photography, I dont watch movies on it, but I am always listening to music on it. Sony has been some of the best in the business when it comes to audiophile equipment and they probably have the best digital audio converters it the smartphone world. I prefer wired headphones just because blutooth can lose some fidelity because the blutooth headphones have the DAC in them, but wired headphones can use the DAC the phone came with. Apple is pretty good, most android is a little worse, but Sony has made a reputation with quality DACs. I want to see if their phones are good for music lovers but nobody talks about that :(
I think that’s a little overboard to buy this phone for marginally better audio possibly. If you don’t have a Sony camera idk why you would get this phone.
You have a great style to you. Very easy to listen to.
The only reason I would still want one is the fact that it is a flagship ruggedized device. I wish more companies would design elegant rugged smartphones with flagship specs.

@@Phoenix-King-ozai yeah in that way they could also justify the joint venture, not like Lamborghini themed phones, McLaren themed phones, Porsche themed phones(maybe, a little bit), these phones are just a way to jack up the price, G Shock theme would actually make sense and the companies, could like, make a really rugged phone, military drop testing, maybe even 5 atm water resistance and the capability to shoot in deep ocean, screen with extra strength, or maybe even a watch which is always on, even when the phone dies, that way they could kind of justify that G-Shock joint venture
I can see a lot of professional ENG videographers would be using this to send news items to their network ,having just a small setup instead of needing a whole truck or special backpack to send out the feed.

I loved it, I still have it and it still holds battery pretty well and in good shape for a 9 year old phone.
I bought the Xperia Z ultra. 7 inch screen, 2013.still flawless. Kids use it.

Loved my sony phones since the collab with walkman with cingular. Favorite smartphone they did was the Xperia Ion, and now I'm in love with my Xperia 1. Only complaint is I didn't get my phone in purple.
I really really like the material choice and the chassis of this phone. It would really feel great in the hand and definitely looks durable.

@@toonlad4091 That's true. Cases do provide a lot of choice. But if the manufacturers integrated some more ruggedness into the phone itself, it would not need a case. It could probably be made thinner and to look better, compared to a phone with a case. Very rarely do I see a phone where its esthetics are improved with the addition of a case.

Been using the xz2 compact for 3 years. Abuse the hell out of it every day. It's been in the ocean, the pool, dropped a thousand times and I'm a welder by trade. I'm considering buying another since they're 150 used. I don't see another compact this cheap with similar specs at that price

unless it's PS4 Pro, but Sony certainly turned it around with their recent audio stuff and phones. Now if they would only put a marketing budget behind it all.

This damn phone just won my heart... There price made me cry inside though.
I had the sony experia Arc back in the day.... it also had HDMI wich was great for having a the latest movies downloaded and being able to play them at friends TVs... Back then few of my friends had their computers hooked up to the tv and netflix and other streaming sites didn't exist...

I love that Sony is willing to make crazy phones like this. They knew this would be a niche device that won't sell a ton of units, but they still put in the time and money to make it anyway. I think that's what I love most about Sony's mobile division: they make dope tech for the sake of making dope tech, they don't care if anyone buys it.

And that is why their mobile division will go burst soon. Zero marketing/hype, overly niche devices.....in the end, all these corporations are out to make money and eventually shutdown when the money stops coming in. It is so sad coz I love their phones....if only they'd be smarter and create mass appeal devices alongside their niche ones. I'd me more than happy to support them with my wallet.

@@lolpartyparrot exactly.. Imo, this Pro is very niche, the 1ii, not so. It's like every other smartphone except has a good camera app. Most people I know don't go to Sony due to age old complaints that don't even apply to the 1 or 1ii.
Besides that, glass back? Sony had it since Xperia Z, people hated it, but soon others adopted and now everyone else loved it. High MP camera's? 'high MP doesn't do Jack shit', until other companies followed and now, only 12mp? Ewww.. Side mounted fingerprint sensor? Soooooo many people dissed the Z3 until XZ phones. Then now, every companies are trying out side mounted fingerprint sensor in one way or another..

I always thought Sony should've done this years ago. They have the phone tech, they have the camera/lense tech. Why not just buy the phone, buy an add on that connects to it, connect lenses and use a phone as essentially a DSLR. You get the benefits of all the hardware and software and storage of a phone, easily charged and you can connect through wifi or 4g with it. I thought that would be a great idea. Well now they're almost there. I wasn't thinking $2500 price tag though haha

I have never liked Sony, but at the moment, they’re really growing on me, Imagine if they ditched google and either adopted Linux across their entire range, or developed their own OS... they would kill it...
I love them. Their Xperias have great features, finally coming from Alpha cameras. But then it is this noodle design which is 50% of the time only black screen. I don't want that. I have problem with a notch! Why would I want 30% of my phone black glass? Even the "camera" material finish on thisone looks great. It's just the noodle and counterintuitivity of some of their apps. Everyone is like "I do ZEISS" optics... man if this has some cool camera software like Lightroom and enabled RAW, bam! Sold.

I think that this phone make me feel more exited than the very year iPhone launches. I really like that we don't need a case for this one
LG should be thinking along the same lines. The 3.5mm audio jack can be there sweet spot. Music sounds really good on anything you plug it into. Doesn't have to be extreme just improve sound quality as much as possible for the audiophile

@@MAR-gq9wt yes they can, there are softwares that are built for that and they don’t need any additional port. iOS, Android all have them. And just name one streaming service that you have watched a 4K stream from.
