Also I think there should be a different option where you get the option where you pay around £20 less, this would make it more appealing to a consumer. I also think if you're ordering your phone there should be more configuration like laptops. For example, an extra case, an extra charger, an extra set of earphones or cable. This could mean that they could all be included meaning there is less trips to your house from amazon for example.
Considering chargers are getting faster and more expensive, it's a puzzling time to remove it from the packaging. Amazon companies will see a big spike in profit from it probably, which will be good for a lot of people given the current financial situations. I'm hoping OnePlus don't pull the plug on the packaging (literally 😂) but my 65w charger in my OnePlus 8t will last me for a bit.

I didn’t even know that companies were saying they didn’t include the charger in order to be green I always assumed that it was because of the obvious… they wanted more money from you after selling you their phone for $2000.

2k for a cell phone is a ridiculous price especially when the phone only costs 10 to 25 dollars to make. I just bout an Iphone 15 pro max 3 days ago. I would not recommend that phone people who have only used Iphones will never understand how much easier it is to use and android phone. At any rate i didn't get a charger in my new Iphone Box. Thought a mistake occurred they told me environment bla bla bla......... So not only does the phone not come with a charger of any type. I need to buy a special charger for an additional 50 to 130 dollars which will require a delivery truck to was fuel to send me a charger. Apple Iphon's keyboards sucks compaired to samsung, Iphone has no thumb print lock, no way download music to phone without buying a service. Cell phones are really starting to suck. I would much rather have a landline but to late for that as the land line it twice as expensive. At least back when landlines were reasonable i could buy a new phone or repair old one for less then 20 dollars. Now they giver you a phone after 12000 dollars with a card that is not compatible with any charger.

The mere fact that Apple, Samsung and the other vendors have managed to prevent legislation that aims to limit this is beyond depressing. The ridiculous amounts of metals and minerals that needed to provide consumers with new phones every 2-4 years, just because a screen cracks, a conductor fails or simply that the OS version is no longer supported and cant' be upgraded is unheard of.

You're completely right with the big picture, but the only reason they went for phones without chargers and called that move "green", is because with the now flatter box designs, they can load WAY more phones (around 40% if I recall) inside the planes, thus needing less planes to carry the phones around.
Not saying this is a valid reason, just that this is the one they used as an excuse.

I always had uses for my old chargers, infact I am constantly finding myself running out of USB chargers and have to buy more. As you said with my current S22 all my old chargers were not compatible as this phone uses USB C to USB C charging cables, where as all my old ones are USB C to USB A. Nor did they have the higher charging rates needed for features like fast charge.
Which just resulted in me to pay $30aud for a charger that before would have just come with the god damn phone before, which is why I think companies jumped onto this trend so quickly, it has nothing to do with the environment, rather now they can upcharge you for something that would have just been included in the first place. I'd also recommend people keep their old phones if they are still in good workable condition, they come in useful for many thing. Mainly because phone insurance is a scam and if your phone dies good luck getting a replacement in a timely or costly manner.
I switched to Apple a little over a year ago and it definitely would have been nice to at least have the option of getting a charger in the box with it!
You're forgetting the price of the phone remains the same but they sell you less. So they make more profit.

ahh this still holds up today even more so accurate today. in the past two years whenever a buy a cheap or pricy phone they almost always dont have cases amd chargers and I usually have to either order a charger and a case for the phone plus screen protectors. I only recently did not have to do this when I gave huawei a try again after a couple of years, they STILL have the fat boxes that come with chargers and a free case and I think that's very great, saved me the hassle of ordering a case and specific charger for the phone. I wish more companies did that lol but theyre too much of hypocrites to actually do that shit.

They did it for one reason - they want you to pay for a new one. It's like heated seats in cars becoming a subscription item rather than an included for the life of the car item.
DPD have started telling customers to get their deliveries dropped at their nearest store… that saves fuel because we don’t have to come to your house. But then the customer has to drive to and from the store. And DPD also don’t mention that 50% of their HGV trailers are completely empty at any given time, and that they also send HGV trucks without a trailer at all, on a 600 mile round trip for no reason due to logistics screwups that happen all the time.
The only thing "going green" are these companies' profit margins.

The thing is, nothing is gonna change. You can make videos or protest as much as you want. Nothing is gonna change. Everyone can be atacking apple, they wont change. Why ? One of the most important videos posted in the history of TH-cam. No exaggeration. When you think about the ripple effect to other devices and other industries, the narrative of corporations doing things in the name of "going green" is, flatly, a lie in order to reduce production costs on the primary item and, simultaneously, to sell more "accessories" that used to be included, to increase overall revenue and actually do more harm to the environment, all while making many consumers "feel" like they are doing something positive to save the planet.
It's time more people play out the "if - then" cause and effect chain of events for not only their buying habits (talking to you EV shoppers) but also the production decisions of corporations and hold corporations (and government officials) to account for decisions allegedly done for the betterment of the environment that actually pad the portfolios of "green" investors while doing net harm to the environment.
Another purchase option: “Would you like a charger/headphone?” at purchase time would be a wonderful step. The dead space in the box when one says “no” is a lot less than than the third party packaging options you went over.

This is also something that bothered me a lot. I don't switch or buy phones a lot, basically only when I need to when it's broken, but I also kinda refuse to buy the newer ones because I'm a bit picky when it comes to phones. Not because of brands or something but the specific things they take away. I don't want to buy a phone and have to switch everything up because I could use everything I bought before with my phone, so I don't want to buy a new charger, headphones and so on. I'm a person that can't sleep when it's to quite, so I watch a couple videos before it knocks me out.
Although it's not the best, I know, I also do that while having one wired earphone in, which helps when I fall asleep, because the other side is heavy enough to pull it out of my ear and away from me that I don't roll on it the whole night and dig it into me, which I wouldn't be able to do with a wireless one, I tried that before. But while on this topic, I'm also not a fan of them taking out the headphone jack in general. Wired headphones are still more reliable than wireless ones and if you forgot to charge them or you didn't notice them running out of juice, you're shit out of luck. Plus, if you find a pair that sounds good to you, but they are wired, you're also shit out of luck because if you buy a new phone you can't use the damn things anymore.
Of course, you also have the points that you are making in the video, of having to get packages 3 times the size for something that could've been in the phone package in the first place. It's not them going green, because for the sake of the environment, it's them saving money so you have to spend more to buy their new charger and ridiculously high priced ear buds, because yours are not compatible anymore.
As fun as having a new phone is, I dread the day my A70 dies, because of this. And I know I can still use my old charger, but that's not the point. The point is, that they loopholed necessary items for your phone, that should be included to use it properly, to shove it back in our faces, having to spend more money, so they can pretend that did something good for the environment, while actually making you the a**hole now, because you have to order those things, instead of them including them.
Let's be honest to ourselves here, the only "green" that these companies actually care about are the dollar signs

There is another thing that you have missed. If for whatever reason your phone goes wrong then the first thing Apple will do is blame you for using the wrong charger. Handy.
New wall outlets and power boards often include a USB type A socket which require only a cable with a USB A plug on one end and a USB B micro , USB C or Lightning plug on the other not a charger. Power outlets with both USB A and USB C sockets are starting to appear.

I use charger that i got with my first smartphone in 2012. It does some clicking sounds sometimes when no devices plugged in, but it does not affect it efficiency. 500 mA is enough for me, time is not a problem for me and battery lives longer. Sony doing things in terms of hardware quality.

Our local logistics suppliers have sealable plastic bags, where you just have to bubble wrap your product, put it in the bag and seal it. Because it's a fully pliable bag, a lot of such bags could be packed into a small space, and each bag will tightly fit around the product it contains, taking up as little space as possible. This seems better than using hard cardboard boxes that take up much more space. I wonder why Amazon doesn't try this.
They did briefly, I'm sure the reason they stopped is that paper bags and boxes are cheaper.

I don’t disagree with anything he has said, I just think there’s a little bit of math he’s missing out on that we should all take into account. I don’t know exactly how to work it out into an equal but taking into account everything he has stated in this video about now actually having 3-4X extra waste and agreeing that it’s true, what’s the time span of which that ends up covering itself and then making up for itself? So right now we have 3-4X, but eventually there’s will come a time where that’s slowed down because people have bought their accessories and there are only so many people on earth at one time so there will come a time when people aren’t wasting 3-4X compared to now and are actually saving, when would that be and going past that time what are the positive and negative effects from what is happening now at that point. Honestly I question that I’ve been wanting answered because I think that would be the best way to find out

The point of the outer packaging from Amazon is quite important. Often they use boxes that are much larger than the product. I purchased wiper blades for my car. As is common now days, the driver side and passenger side were of different lengths and had to be purchased separately. Each arrived separately (about a week apart) in huge boxes that could have fit 20 blades each.
You may have a legal case against companys that are selling unusable products.
Apple says it wants to be environmently friendly but still makes it as hard as possible to reapair any of their devices.

Apple uses some of the dirtiest and greediest business tactics but hides behind a veil of looking out for the consumer. I really hope people come around to this and realize what they're actually supporting instead of taking what Apple says at face value.
They also make phones that last (and are actually used) for years longer than the competition. And it’s been shown cheaper third party repairs tend to break down or cause other issues far too often thus nullifying their benefits, whereas when you pay a little extra for an apple repair/replacement you actually extend the life of your device as intended.

And one point: My old iPhone X has a charging cable with USB-A to plug it in the standard 11W Apple charger. Newer iPhones have a USB-C cable included, so I need a new USB-C charger/cable (Apple, Anker etc.), and using a addapter USB-A to USB-C is no option for me. And next iPhones will have (I assume) USB-C only (in EU) (cable and port on iPhone). So, the old Lightning cable is needless after switching to the upcoming iPhone generations.
Companies don't care about environment, it's about making money. As simple as that.

It carries about 3000 people = 0.7 tonnes of fuel per person
boeing 747 uses approx 10 kg of fuel per kilometre and there are 9000 kilometres = 90 tonnes of fuel per jet
It carries about 500 people = 0.18 tonnes per person
Energy density of aviation fuel is only slightly higher than diesel.

Normally I'm with you, however on this issue there where some oversights, for example I bought a big charger with several outputs that charges all of my devices. It was a quality charger and I've had it for 3 years now. In those three years I changed my phone 4 time changed from IPad to S8 Ultra of 2 MacBooks yet I did not purchase any other chargers. I am assuming the Macbooks came with a charger however I haven't even opened it yet and the first MacBook already brome. I assumed the phones came with a charger but I never looked... So if there are more people like me then people who buy a charger for every single device they have then this is definitely better for the environment. You even said it yourself in the video 'Apple doesn't really care about their chargers...' However if there is a growing market for USB-C chargers then companies who only produced charger will have a bigger budget and incentive a charger that can last longer and handle more so we can use it for much longer then the 4 years I've had mine
Furthermore Apple didn't want to switch from magsafe because it's a popular system, hence the return of magsafe.
A company's reason for existing is to make profit, It's us Humans that need to take care of the Environment (and yes the CEOs and the company employees count as part of this category) since we are the ones who have to live in it...
Answer is greed, they know that someone who is stupid enough to pay over 1000 for a phone won't mind buying a charger separate. The cheap budget phones usually all come with a cable and a charger.

Don't forget the fact that Apple didn't just remove the charger and earphones, they also didn't adjust the prices of all the older products that used to come with them, both increasing the profit margins on those products and getting users to purchase them separately for a higher price.

I just bought a new Honor 90 here in the UK and it didn't come with the 66 watt charger for some reason but I did get the free Honor tab x8 🤗 however the Honor 70 I bought prior came with the 66 watt charger.......
I have many opinions on this maybe it does keep the cost down so we get better spec phones for a lower price maybe it does save on the e waste issue as I have literally as a tech freak a box of about 20 brand new Samsung charging bricks still sealed as I have used the same on throughout the new devices I bought.
however today new devices are getting faster charging 'requiring the manufactures own dedcated charger specific for their device like higher watts' people could use the old chargers and cables (I still do) but most will have to buy newer USB C chargers if they want the faster charging a fine example is Samsungs as they only give you a USB C to USB C cable in the box today.......cough cough.....this will only fit a few of the charging bricks I have
the fast impressive charging from the likes of Honor ,OPPO, xiomai etc that charge up like filling a kettle ;) will only do this with their supplied cable and charger my new Honor 90 will only charge super fast with their 66 watt charger (not in box) luckily I have 2 new ones from my 2 previous Honor 70 devices! the magic 5 lite has 22 watt fast charging so I used the 66 watt charger from my Honor 70 to charge it up faster as that did not come bundled with a charger either !
I don't think its 100% caring for the environment maybe 30% and 20% to get our devices cheaper and 50% is for profit at the end of the day without a fast charger in the box people will have to buy a new charger
with new phones being released supporting this feature most won't buy it from the manufacture as they will be expensive (probably why the won't supply one in the box...) 90% of people will just buy a cheaper alternative and this will be no doubt be some dodgy cheap one that won't last a week and end up on a land fill anyway plus most the cheap stuff is ewaste out of the box.
in my opinion they should leave the charger in the box and remove the 100 paper booklets that's included I swear the amount of plastic coated paper small pamphlets that come with phones today the instructions ,regulations etc etc get thrown away ideally should be electronic built on the device it wouldn't take much storage space the bloatware installed takes up much much more! (plus some of it is printed on the back of the device 😁😆) the user could then delete the instruction/tip information once they have read it or go online and download the PDF electronically it might be a pain but its no different than going on line to buy a charger!

In certain countries, Brazil I think, selling something without a charger is illegal. Something needs to have everything in it to work.
I think it is logistics, they can use same packages everywhere instead of making half a dozen different boxes with different chargers.

Samsung phones work with any USB charger, not just one specially for that model. I have S6 Edge charge with salvaged Sony charger and aliexpress noname charger with no problems whatsoever. I don't get why one needs new charger with new phone._
When I got my phone, I had a cable and plenty of charging options. I was never going to use ear buts, but I can, as I already have those too. And I was always going to buy a special protective case that is different from the one it might have come with. What bugs me is that when I complained to Samsung that the battery wasn't lasting long enough, the rep said the charger I was using wasn't fast enough. Which is completely irrational. That's not how batteries work and a massive cop out because they didn't give me the charger they said I should be using. I'm just waiting for the class action.

@@FNJ720 Wireless charging is very inefficient. The video itself goes into further detail - how it has to travel through layers of metal and releases a lot of heat as a byproduct, basically losing energy.

Yes, but in fairness, that was a govt mandate, at least where I'm from, Western Australia. They had to stop giving away free plastic bags, it forced us to bring in our own, better, reusable bags. It was/is a good move, but there should be penalties for the plastic toy trinkets - they're far worse, basically never break down (versus the thin, grey plastic bags that were designed to eventually break down). I used to work at a supermarket when they did those promo toys, you would not believe how many we'd go through, 2--3 pallets in a day when and we sold out early... That's like 2-3 whole cars worth of plastic toys per day. Insane.

apple tries to push customers to buy new devices instead of repairing them by both dodgy sales pitch and incredibly overpriced repair prices. at the same time, apple also goes out of their way to make third party repair as difficult as possible (many of the methods they use even cost them extra, showing you just how important it is to them that less devices get repaired).
apple is far from eco friendly, and their privacy record is also purely for image.

greenwashing is very real. if corporations were really caring about the environment, they would reduce the amount of releases they do and keep certain components that they already have instead of tossing them all for a newer "aesthetic" iteration

Most people already have a bunch of chargers in their home. I don't pass my phone to someone else, it goes in a drawer never to be seen again or I recycle it. I usually keep the charger and USB cord for backups. I also can charge my phone with the USB connection on my computer. I can buy car jumpers with USB charging inputs, I can but electric outlet boxes with USB charging inputs, the list goes on and on. Smart phones usually charge very fast, I know mine does, so a faster charger is not needed. New cars have USB charging 12v plugs already built in their cars also. So that's why phone companies stopped supplying them.
