I didn’t even know that companies were saying they didn’t include the charger in order to be green I always assumed that it was because of the obvious… they wanted more money from you after selling you their phone for $2000.
2k for a cell phone is a ridiculous price especially when the phone only costs 10 to 25 dollars to make. I just bout an Iphone 15 pro max 3 days ago. I would not recommend that phone people who have only used Iphones will never understand how much easier it is to use and android phone. At any rate i didn't get a charger in my new Iphone Box. Thought a mistake occurred they told me environment bla bla bla......... So not only does the phone not come with a charger of any type. I need to buy a special charger for an additional 50 to 130 dollars which will require a delivery truck to was fuel to send me a charger. Apple Iphon's keyboards sucks compaired to samsung, Iphone has no thumb print lock, no way download music to phone without buying a service. Cell phones are really starting to suck. I would much rather have a landline but to late for that as the land line it twice as expensive. At least back when landlines were reasonable i could buy a new phone or repair old one for less then 20 dollars. Now they giver you a phone after 12000 dollars with a card that is not compatible with any charger.
Well that's the problem if everyone could just figure that out we would be fine, but you need 5 minutes to get into it with a bunch of smooth brains and explain to them what's going on.
That's the truth. The gray man has to fight for the environment and sacrifice everything, and big corporations have changed something? Totally nothing!
@GreenJordan 30 greta is an emotional kid who jumps into arguments without even knowing the full picture, like when she took a cruise instead of an aircraft across atlantic to "save environment", but cruises take much more energy than jets per person considering that the cruises have to carry entire rooms, furniture and a million different things just to carry you compared to a jet which only carries a seat for you and some very light insulation and only the bare minimum. Data: An average cruise ship takes two weeks to cross atlantic, uses 150 tonnes of fuel per day = 2100 tonnes of fuel for the trip It carries about 3000 people = 0.7 tonnes of fuel per person boeing 747 uses approx 10 kg of fuel per kilometre and there are 9000 kilometres = 90 tonnes of fuel per jet It carries about 500 people = 0.18 tonnes per person Energy density of aviation fuel is only slightly higher than diesel.

I don’t disagree with anything he has said, I just think there’s a little bit of math he’s missing out on that we should all take into account. I don’t know exactly how to work it out into an equal but taking into account everything he has stated in this video about now actually having 3-4X extra waste and agreeing that it’s true, what’s the time span of which that ends up covering itself and then making up for itself? So right now we have 3-4X, but eventually there’s will come a time where that’s slowed down because people have bought their accessories and there are only so many people on earth at one time so there will come a time when people aren’t wasting 3-4X compared to now and are actually saving, when would that be and going past that time what are the positive and negative effects from what is happening now at that point. Honestly I question that I’ve been wanting answered because I think that would be the best way to find out
@@Tzankotz lol no alot don't because most smartphone brands would remove them from the early access invitation list whenever they release a new product
Remember when companies where trying to appeal to what customers wanted? Now its all about maximising profits. I think its got to a point where they are just seeing what they can remove and still get people to buy. (headphone jack, charger, headphones, ports, repairability) If they really cared about the environment they would let me repair a phone I purchased and not implement software on it that purposely blocks replacement parts from working correctly. People believe the newer the product the better, some just buy it for the fashion statement. Honesty I think everything is getting worse. Even after owning the S20, S21, iPhone 12 etc that I purchased for videos, I sell them and continue to use my 4 year old phone. Does everything I want and has all the features everyone else has got rid of, even still has a physical keyboard. :)

i feel like the easisest way to fix this would be making all the extra stuff optional. Like, when you buy the phone they just ask if you'd like an included charger/earphones/brick etc. Then they could add the carbon it saves to say no, but if you do need a charger you can still get it included, and you don't experience all the nock on effects.
Few things, one less options apparently mean more sales or so I hear. So not asking for it being an option is easier. 2 backlash. Granted 💩 is 💩 but they would have less standing to look good and not greedy if they went this route. Vs in the name of worldly / social justice.

Because there is enought dumb people who just buy this crap and dont give a shit. Even if they know the truth, they still buy it.
Don't forget the fact that Apple didn't just remove the charger and earphones, they also didn't adjust the prices of all the older products that used to come with them, both increasing the profit margins on those products and getting users to purchase them separately for a higher price.
How do you know they didn't adjust the price? You can't know that because Apple adjusts the price based on the fluctuation of the dollar and every year there is a different price for the iPhone. You can't know that.
@@Shakazuloeman I can. At one point, the iPhone SE was 399 dollars. The next day, they removed the charger and headphone and the price has stayed 399. Since then, it has continued to stay at 399. That inflation excuse is plain bullshit.

Three years later, things got even worse; virtually all phone producers aligned to this trend. And lots and lots and lots of extra chargers were sold, and lots of extra packaging were thrown away due to this stupid decision. And nobody wants to admit it was an insulting decision toward the end user !! Not to mention that the phone is not cheaper due to this move ! Not even by a few cents.
Yeah, it's a pain. Whenever I resell my phone the dude picking it up wants the charger and cable 😑 Plus I went to go buy a Samsung charger the other day and was sold a counterfeit one that didn't even work. My bad, but another hassle identifying legitimate chargers. Good point on Lightening Cable too, it's horrible for consumers. Anyway, now I have to go back to Al Hafeez Centre, Lahore, to get a new charger.
Also removing the headphone jack added one more piece usb c to 3.5 and that's again more plastic and rubber for the environment. Companies are just trying to do stuff that's convenient for them and yes convenient for their pockets and not for the environment.
Nobody talks about wireless headphones you have to throw away once battery don’t hold charge no more. Where as a wired lasted as long as u looked after well and didn’t lose it.
Apple uses some of the dirtiest and greediest business tactics but hides behind a veil of looking out for the consumer. I really hope people come around to this and realize what they're actually supporting instead of taking what Apple says at face value.
They also make phones that last (and are actually used) for years longer than the competition. And it’s been shown cheaper third party repairs tend to break down or cause other issues far too often thus nullifying their benefits, whereas when you pay a little extra for an apple repair/replacement you actually extend the life of your device as intended.
I'm sorry to say, but from my experience as a phone user that doesn't buy a new flagship phone each year. My phone lasts until it dies or gets so slow that it actually becomes unusable. Same goes for the accessories that go with it. While I did have to purchase a new charger recently, the old one still charges my phone overnight or charges any of my other USB devices.
The going green tagline is killing 3 birds with one stone... 1) Get Paid the same for no charger 2) Sell extra charger 3) Place yourself as eco conscious.
Even so it's still better for the environment. Who says you can't save money AND be better for the environment? Also Apple was chosen by Greenpeace as the most environmentally friendly company...

It's not about the environment, that's just a feel-good corporate talking point. The companies are simply trying to cut production costs so they can increase their profit margin.
@@acupanraphaelgio7925 Unfortunately, if the companies doing it are increasing their profit margins then the ones not copying would have to start copying them because of the competitive pressure otherwise they could go bust or lose market share. It's Capitalism.
greenwashing is very real. if corporations were really caring about the environment, they would reduce the amount of releases they do and keep certain components that they already have instead of tossing them all for a newer "aesthetic" iteration
I will just use my charger from my previous phone. So I don’t really care yeah it’s cheap on the company and that’s why they’re doing it not for the environment but I don’t bother me much
The other thing that is kind of ridiculous about this so-called green approach is that not including those items in the box doesn't save the customer any money as the companies still charge the exact same amount for their phones that came with the charging brick and headphones.
that's more reason why you should be happy that their giving you a better, faster, bigger battery capacity phone for the same price without accessories you have already. would you prefer the same phone with the same hardware and feature for the same price with a wire earphone and 5w brick? do you think a 2022 toyota camry cost the same as a 2021 camry? its $800 more with some plastic things that hard shape differently but all the engine/transmission and other performance hardwear is the same.
@@18magicMARKer oh fuck off, many of these phones come with a "faster charge" feature thus forcing you to buy the "faster charger" separately and thus increase shipping, increasing packaging so it is not "green" at all

@@18magicMARKer This is a horrible argument, it is expected that a new generation of phone would be an all around upgrade to the last one. Car generations are much longer lived than that of smartphones and absolutely do go through major changes when a new generation comes out. We shouldn't have to be proud of a company for making incremental improvements, that should be the bare minimum expected from a new phone. Your statement mirrors the exact mindset these companies want you in, removing the charger and headphones isn't what allows the phone to stay at the same price, it's the fact that the company is making nearly 1000$ more than it cost them to make each phone.

almost any time a company says "we're doing this for the environment" what they really mean is "we're doing this for our wallet" like when all the shops said "no more plastic bags. for the environment" and in the same week run a promotion where you can collect tiny plastic toys
Yes, but in fairness, that was a govt mandate, at least where I'm from, Western Australia. They had to stop giving away free plastic bags, it forced us to bring in our own, better, reusable bags. It was/is a good move, but there should be penalties for the plastic toy trinkets - they're far worse, basically never break down (versus the thin, grey plastic bags that were designed to eventually break down). I used to work at a supermarket when they did those promo toys, you would not believe how many we'd go through, 2--3 pallets in a day when and we sold out early... That's like 2-3 whole cars worth of plastic toys per day. Insane.
@@skullsaintdead just a friendly reminder that those "eco" bags break down to microplastics (basically plastic dust), which pollute the environment all the same. Double yay? Like, really those shits are the worst, literally anything is better than them. Lol, even worse than Apple wannabes' "courage". :)
apple tries to push customers to buy new devices instead of repairing them by both dodgy sales pitch and incredibly overpriced repair prices. at the same time, apple also goes out of their way to make third party repair as difficult as possible (many of the methods they use even cost them extra, showing you just how important it is to them that less devices get repaired). apple is far from eco friendly, and their privacy record is also purely for image. just as you would expect for a large tech company.
It was so funny when Apple was like "we're saving the environment by not giving you a charger" and then they went on to promote "wireless" charging. Wireless charging is known for it's HUGE waste of electricity
But electricity doesn’t need to come from charcoal. Brazilian electricity comes from its water falls and some of American electricity comes from nuclear reactors
@@icarofilho6524 it doesn't have to but majority of the world's electricity still come from fossil fuels. It will take more than a few years for the world to fully rely on sustainable energy. So till then, it is still a waste of natural resources.

The lack of a charger with my new Samsung phone this year really irritated me. No matter which USB I plugged into I could not get fast charging. It was taking almost 24 hours just to get 80% charge in the phone. So I ordered a charger off Ebay and now I get the fast charging and the phone will charge from 10% to 100% in less than 2 hours. I sometimes wonders if these manufacturers even have any brains left in their R&D departments.
The charging standard is usually written on the transformer. I don't think you needed to spend all that time randomly plugging in to things. If your phone offers a charging standard that wasn't available one year ago, it's fairly obvious that you'll need a new charger for that. At least it seems to be.
Samsung phones work with any USB charger, not just one specially for that model. I have S6 Edge charge with salvaged Sony charger and aliexpress noname charger with no problems whatsoever. I don't get why one needs new charger with new phone._
What matters most is the Voltage. Just ensure that voltage is supported by the phone. How fast or slow a device charge is dependent on the maximum current that can be delivered by the power brick. So basically, one can get a supercharged high power usb-c charger - eg: 150W. For as long the voltage is the same as the phone's specified charging voltage.
Buying a charger and earpods separately requires another 2 boxes, we still pay the same price for just the phone. It is more like how can the companies make more money and have more convenience in shipping, under the cover of "protecting the environment".
I’m glad companies are making money protecting the environment so they will keep doing it, all solutions for our problems must be part of the capitalism society otherwise people will have no reason to participate in it

Cables might be easily breakable but i have never ever seen someone who broke their power brick.
i get what your sayin and you do have a point but what it actually boils down to is: how many people need the charger and how many dont. In order to make a qualitative Assessment if the change is beneficial for the Environment
Very simple they think ECO because they don't want people to buy 100 phone with plastic bag but they just want you to buy their stuff with recycled bag
Why don’t they ask the question; “would you like the charger/earphones/cable in the box?” When the phones get packaged just leave out what has been requested. Another way to reduce the wast would be to ask for the old equipment that is left laying around the house. Then give you a discount if you recycle it.
The point of the outer packaging from Amazon is quite important. Often they use boxes that are much larger than the product. I purchased wiper blades for my car. As is common now days, the driver side and passenger side were of different lengths and had to be purchased separately. Each arrived separately (about a week apart) in huge boxes that could have fit 20 blades each.
Over time Xiaomi got an option on their website that allows you to choose if you get a charger in a box when you by a phone, the only right way to do it. Also good video, fair points made
@Xqwzts true that. All that said, i just got the fold 3 and im in love with the phone, just the lack of additional hardware for the 1800 behemoth is a little sad
That's not true for Samsung though. They did lower the price of the S21 because they cut costs by removing the headphone jack, not including headphones or a charger, took out the SD card slot, and even lowered the screen resolution from 1440p back down to 1080p. This allowed the price to be lowered to $799 for the base model. But it came at quite a cost, feature wise.
@@MrDestroyedSoulx i think he meant that because there is no charger or headphones, they should lower the price because of that what you described to me sounds like how every phone company makes a mid ranged phone: take the flagship then remove some features that aren't very important, but important enough so that people would buy the actual flagship for them

However, the overall effect of that is pretty small from an environmental standpoint. Using eric's numbers (referenced in the video here), and assuming you run your phone down to 0% every day before charging, the loss due to that inefficiency is only about 2.5 kWh yearly. If we use the average mix of electric generation source across the US, that's 1.04 kg of greenhouse gas emissions added (0.417 kg per kWh). That's the equivalent of driving a car 2.5 extra miles per year, or the equivalent of reducing the weight of you suitcase by 375 grams on a one-way NYC -> London flight. Coincidentally, the average adult bladder is a bit more than 375mL; you could offset the greenhouse effects of that inefficiency by emptying your bladder before boarding one transantlantic flight.
Just a shame he's misinforming millions of people about the rest of the tech. Both the tech, capacity and efficiency of the wireless charging implementation in their latest phones, is about as outdated as a 90's diesel engine, compared to other solutionsbot just in development, but already deployed by other device manufacturers.
I like how you danced around the fact that this all was most likely to increase their profit line. If I take this $1 charger out the box I save $1 but I then turn around and sell it back to you for $30 that’s pure genius

Companies don't care about environment, it's about making money. As simple as that.
Data:
An average cruise ship takes two weeks to cross atlantic, uses 150 tonnes of fuel per day = 2100 tonnes of fuel for the trip
It carries about 3000 people = 0.7 tonnes of fuel per person
boeing 747 uses approx 10 kg of fuel per kilometre and there are 9000 kilometres = 90 tonnes of fuel per jet
It carries about 500 people = 0.18 tonnes per person
Energy density of aviation fuel is only slightly higher than diesel.

They also make phones that last (and are actually used) for years longer than the competition. I genuinely felt offended when Apple came out saying they are not including a charging brick citing environmental benefits. They are doing it to save their own logistics and shipping costs. Save costs but charge customers more. Business tip; dont treat your customers like they are dumb.

At least it seems to be.
if the point is " you have your old charger" then i would rather continue using my old phone than buying the new one
Let's just buy the last newest wired charging phone.
@Dan Trebune yes then you have to update your phone and buy headphones and charger separately. more updates more money

@@icarofilho6524 your charger is getting outdated and just breaking is a thing so you are going to buy a new one separately which results in more packaging and is worse for the environment. It could work if they didn't put charger in, but at the same time improved the quality of the charger and the cable, so that it wouldn't die in 3 years and had higher energy transfer efficiency. Why don’t they ask the question; “would you like the charger/earphones/cable in the box?” When the phones get packaged just leave out what has been requested. Another way to reduce the wast would be to ask for the old equipment that is left laying around the house. Then give you a discount if you recycle it.
This is a great idea!! :):)

Not forgetting, they haven't reduced the price of the phone by the cost of the things they no longer supply with it!
@@MrDestroyedSoulx i think he meant that because there is no charger or headphones, they should lower the price because of that
what you described to me sounds like how every phone company makes a mid ranged phone: take the flagship then remove some features that aren't very important, but important enough so that people would buy the actual flagship for them

Someone finally talking about the wireless charging inefficiency
Yeah wireless charging is overrated
Lol no, it was talked a lot. You just didn't care before.
This is so fucking important.
They don't give you a charger, but want $60 for a new one that will charge your phone
I like how you danced around the fact that this all was most likely to increase their profit line. If I take this $1 charger out the box I save $1 but I then turn around and sell it back to you for $30 that’s pure genius
Not to mention shipping costs , box is half the size so half price shipping
