Thanks Bo. Cranking isn’t too complicated. Most of the time we make it more complicated than it really is. Good luck and I hope your cranking adventure is 👍
Your video's are really great for people like me. I just got back into fishing and I fish Rayburn and Toledo. I find it really hard using these bait's in shallow water at Rayburn because of all of the grass. It seem's I'm spending so much time pulling grass off my line. I've got to get this figured out because buddies are fishing areas with these bait's catching fish. I really enjoy watching video's of yourself, Bradley, and Todd. Ya'll know your stuff and put out a lot of good content. Good luck on the tournament trail and keep on putting out these great video's.
@@AndrewUpshawFishing Having mentioned "specialty" rods, I've got to admit the importance of being able to feel what the bait is doing (collecting grass versus ticking the tops, for example). I'm an old-school student of David Fritts, who preached the importance of developing a "feel" that simply doesn't happen over night. (I wonder what ever became of my old half glass Fenwick Crankshaft rod).
I'm glad you ended up posting this video. Great in depth info for year round applications. Love to know favorite colors and nuances and how they relate to fishing. Keep it coming Thanks.
Great Squarebill breakdown video! I fish local ponds down here in South Georgia in my Mainstream Jon Buoy kayak with a Minn Kota 40lb thrust trolling motor. These ponds have been dug out years and years ago, anywhere from 3-15 feet deep and are on land that has been owned by local families for generations. That being said, the bottoms are primarily soft dirt/mud and there are no “man-made” structures. It’s all natural. Water clarity is mostly stained or muddy. I mostly use Squarebills that run 1-5 feet deep (if I know the depth and the layout of the bottom). I have never used electronics in these ponds. Not because I don’t like it, but because I don’t have it. 😁 So I pretty much know what’s on the bottom (fallen trees, tree limbs, etc) just from fishing these ponds for so long. I’ll use your info in this video next time I fish these ponds and I’m sure my luck will increase. Appreciate you uploading this video. 😎👍
Yep!!! Got 2 of those already in the Natural Bream and the Black Back/Chartreuse. Going to be getting 2 more in the Orange Belly Craw and the Chrome Sexy Shad. 👍👍
Thanks Andrew for the informative walk through on square bills. I am just this year getting into using crank baits and you did an excellent job breaking it down for the square bill.
Don’t be ashamed of what you throw. Strike King makes some good baits and at an affordable price in most cases. We all know that this sport can cost us a bunch if we let it. I love the “what’s in the box series” i would like to go through a few pros boats and see what they really carry.
You have some of the most in depth knowledge and detailed videos I've seen in the TubeVerse. I like how you simplify everything and show how you dont have a million colors, but a core selection. Keep up the great videos and good luck on the tournament trail! Rooting for ya man!
Totally agree Shawn Lai! One of Andrew's earlier videos turned me on to having just 3 main colors: Green Gizzard Shad, Blue back chartruese, and citrus shad. Other than a few red and a few chrome or gold, those are my colors.
I really interested in the tips videos you have been doing and thanks for some of the new colors I didn’t know about lol and who doesn’t like striking and by the way glad the TH-cam working out for you.
I agree with you, Andy. If anyone else could make a better squarebill, I'd fish it, too. Until then, I use Strike King's squarebills. River and creek fishing has led me to use the 1.5 and down in sizes. The big ones don't have a logical function to me yet. Those bigger square bills sure sound right for lake systems. You guys use a lot heavier line than I've seen in the Big Sky. Around here 12 pound test is pretty standard in what I've seen for the last 50 years. I buy an Ugly Stik at my sporting good store and strip them to the stick, rebuilding those 7' sticks into microwave guided rods that seem to come out with a medium/medium-fast kind of action. My square bill rods.
That’s an interesting take on rods. You never have to worry about them breaking either! I use a lot of bigger baits on larger bodies of water. If I was creek fishing I would use the 1.0 almost exclusively, where quantity is more fun than quality in that situation. Sounds like you have it down though!

Smh probably 😂
You know it kills me how people always bitch about pro’s talking about using there sponsors gear, well they are providing the baits and in doing that they deserve the promotion if people don’t like it watch something else! And Strike King is everywhere almost every store that sells bait sells Strike King hell most gas stations that sell bait sells Strike King they are great baits and easy for the general public to get there hands on. Unlike some brands that aren’t easy to get and extremely over priced not mentioning any names( Megabass)!
