This made my Wednesday morning, I'm so glad you guys are back to these 20+ min long in depth videos. I understand not everything takes that long to talk about but I absolutely love these! One of my local lakes just opened up this week, I was able to get out after work yesterday and catch a couple on a blade bait. Cait wait for spring

Everybody is in such a rush today, nobody watches the previews on a DVD anymore, everybody just skips to the first scene. Everybody wants fast info, can't watch a video that's 20 minutes long. Myself I like the longer videos because it goes in depth not just a broad stroke over the category in 2 minutes. I pick up alot of stuff from the in between talk. Probably more so then the actual good stuff. They are constantly coming up with new ways and changing there game.

Good stuff. I use a razor blade to slightly scratch in the running max depth into the clear bill. This remains on much longer

@Stoney Lonsome Thank you for the tips sir. They'll definitely be utilized. I've avoided crankbaits for a while now because I know I'm going to lose a lot of money hanging them up on the bottom. But it is what it is.

It be awesome to see some seminars on pond fishing for spring time. I don't how many guys out there are pond fisherman like my self but in the pond I go to there are some monster largemouth and pickerel. I hooked on to one last summer and it had to be at least 12lb but unfortunately it shook the hook about 3ft from the bank. I've been trying to get that bass ever since.

You and Matt both have taught me so much much about baits and fishing over the last few years! So I'm gonna give yall a recommendation to try in the square bill world. I live on Guntersville and I have done really really well on the Berkley pitbull squarebill. It's nothing special like 6th sense when it comes to colors but the action is different than most squarebills. AND IT GETS BIT! Love the channel guys! Keep it up and thank yall!

Hey Timbo-I was actually upgrading hooks on some new hardbaits while watching this vid.Being an unsponsored "shorebound" angler,I go with the Fletcher Shryock 2x ewg trebles by eagle claw. However I did save up n get the Ike Delay 6'6"rod paired up with the Revo x-w(5:4.1)for my squarebill set up.I'm experimenting with braid to mono leader, but it takes some getting used to.The LC 1.5 was my most productive lure last year. The BX Brat is a gr8 bait,too...

  • @mayze09

Tim, just thought I would throw something out there. I crank like denny Brauer flips (meaning you have to pry the cranking rod out of my hand). All my rods are glass. I use the St. Croix legend glass rods. To your point about fishing isolated grass patches etc., two rods were recently added to the legend glass lineup, a 6'10" MH and a 7'2" H. I found the 7'2" to be a very niche rod serving the exact scenario you covered. Yes it is still glass and very parabolic, but because it is a short rod with a heavy build, it really allows you to have that more precise control over the crank.... now spool it up with braid to leader and you get even more control... on top of that, the short rod gives you that pinpoint accuracy on casts for hitting those small isolated targets.... all the while giving you the control and forgiveness of glass once the fish is pinned. Just thought I would throw that out there.... there is no wrong way to fish as long as the bass ends up in the livewell... Last thing, I would like to piggy back on Justin Shedaker's comment.... you guys do an unreal job of relaying in depth info without sounding like a brand specific billboard. Great stuff, keep it coming.

I have been watching your and Matt's videos scence last year. I fish all my life and the last few years I started casting crankbaits. I might use one for awhile and give up on crankbaits and use something else. I never had any good luck on crankbaits in river currents. I live in Fredericton New Brunswick Canada. Fredericton has two rivers, one is the Saint John river flow through the city and the Nashwaak river flows into the Saint John river inside the city limits.

I caught at least 20+ smallies out of a spillway in a local river this last fall on the little jon. Temps dropped, river flooded, and they were stacked up in that incoming water, every cast they were inhaling it. That was the day I realized squarebills were essential to the tackle box

I was just watching my bait swim at the end of a retrieve and a 5+ came up through the hyrdilla and unloaded on my hud 2 feet from the boat. almost fell out of the boat lol.

Try out a red triple grip on the front and a round bend on the back on crankbaits. My hookup ratio went way up since I started this and you dont need to switch out hooks all the time. Best of both worlds. Usually if they slap at it they get the back hook anyways

Very informative video. This season I am putting in more time into crankbaits, particularly squarebills. One question though: what is your thoughts on snaps, like the VMC Crankbait Snap?
I always tie direct to my lures, however I came across others who suggest, for crankbaits, using snaps instead of the split rings. Particularly for changing baits more quickly and easily.
Right now I only have one dedicated rod setup for crankbaits, 7' MH/Fast composite rod w/5.6:1 ratio reel, 12lb mono (only cause that's all I had at the time, will be switching flouro). I'm certain, just like the rest of my rod and reel arsenal, I will end up with other combinations as I hone my skillset.
    What's your opinions?
Thank you for the time and effort you put into the information you put out. Much appreciated.

I don't think it should be rattling and silent I think it should be loud and not so loud because even a silent crankbait makes a lot of noise with the hooks and split Rings rattling around and bouncing off the body of the bait

Is brand truly a factor when it comes to your “run of the mill” 1.5 or 2.5 squarebills? For instance, does a Lucky Strike RC2 run any different than a Lucky Craft 1.5 or a 6th Sense Crush 50?

    • @LeatherNeck1833

I'd like to hear your thoughts on swapping out treble hooks for single in line hooks like the saltwater guys. I mainly sport fish, catch and release. I want to do as little damage as possible. I haven't had an issue the last few years, but would like to hear another opinion. Seems like the guys that switch out treble hooks, still don't do it on topwater baits. Which baits would you swap, and to which hooks and rings?

  • @CBALLZ666

When fishing squarebills do you guys just cruise down the bank and cast shallow??? Or do you find a spot that's shallow and park the boat and fish??? Crankbait shallow or deep have always been a tough bait for me to wrap my brain around. I have tons of deep cranks and squarebills but they don't get used often.

    Now
Maybe I missed it but I have “ seen/ studied “ most of your square bill/ crank bait/lipless videos and have not seen how you guys recommend how to connect the line to lure?
I use a snap but see that some tie directly to split ring. But I fear the end of the wire in the ring will weaken the line and fail. Do you guys upgrade to the oval rings and tie to that and what knot do you use . Thanks Don

Great question Don! We tie straight to the split ring.

Why wouldn't companies put a max depth on the bait already? It just makes sense...right?

Does Squarebill size make a big difference?!

    • @LeatherNeck1833
      @LeatherNeck1833 4 ปีที่แล้ว +3

Yes, match the hatch. If the baitfish are 2" on average, use a 2.0 or smaller. If the baitfish are larger and bass are feeding on them, go bigger on your lure.
