The ironic thing about the portrayal of the Native Americans in the 1953 film is that’s actually a step above how they were depicted in the original stage play and novelization. In the original story, they were pretty much regarded as dumb savages no different than the rest of the island’s wildlife, whereas in the animated film, they humanized them more (albeit stereotypically). You even have Micheal Darling spouting out some of that Edwardian racist rhetoric that he was likely taught, thinking he could see through their ambush, only to be proven wrong when the tribe catches them completely off guard. Seems like they were trying to subvert the trope.
From what I gathered, late animator Marc Davis said in an interview that the staff would’ve tried correcting their mistake had they known at the time that their portrayal of the Natives would’ve aged later on. The studio always strived for making their films as timeless as possible, but it’s kinda impossible to completely escape the zeightgeist of whatever era you’re in. Hindsight is always behind.
You should read the book

As a kid, I’ve never understood why other girls had crushes on Peter Pan because he’s so mean to Wendy?? Also poor Wendy has the worst time ever on Neverland. Tinkerbell tries to shoot her down, the mermaids try to drown her, the natives give her a bunch of chores to do during the party, and then she’s kidnapped by pirates. Like damn no wonder she wanted to go home

People really ain't getting the joke, are they. I got it. I think you're funny.
Unironically yes. I keep telling people that stealing is when you take something away from someone else. If they still have whatever-it-is, then you didn't steal it. At worst you borrowed it without asking.
That's why it is literally IMPOSSIBLE to steal an idea (at least without time travel or a memory-erasing device). You can use someone else's idea for your own benefit, but you can never take away the fact that they came up with it.
What you can steal is the CREDIT for an idea, or the opportunity to make a profit off of it.
I love how back in the day, Piracy was viewed as AS BAD if not WORSE than just straight up theft. Like this horrible crime. "You wouldn't download a car", The hell I would. If I lived in a society where having a car is a necessity, not a luxury and I literally cannot go to work without one and the company that makes cars is exploiting this market to charge people predatory prices while reserving ownership of their vehicle even while they're using it, I would 100% download a car.
So fun fact: In stage adaptations of Peter Pan, Captain Hook and the father Mr. Darling are usually played by the same actor. It’s a tradition that took place to save money but also because of them being antagonists and symbolic of each other. Hello.
I have some questions that I hope someone answers me:
1) Why was the movie "Home on the Range" (2004) a failure?
2) Was it really a bad movie, or was it just not appreciated as it deserved?
3) Was Disney to blame for the movie doing poorly?
4) If the film had done well at the box office and in critics, do you think it would have been possible for it to have a sequel?
5) What would this hypothetical sequel have been about?
6) What do you think of the movie "Home in the Range" (2004)?
Any Answer is Valid. As long as it is related to the question.
Greetings from Argentina🇦🇷
As someone who read the original Peter and Wendy novel, your theory of Neverland making it so it’s impossible for people to emotionally grow is VERY plausible.
Also, in the book and play, Peter is a child forever because he always forgets everything, that’s why he never grows up, further fueling the emotionally stunted theory. I chose to believe everyone forgets the adventure of the episode as soon as the credits roll.
And to answer your question in the finale, Peter gave Wendy an acorn necklace they call a “kiss” in the original book and play.
In Once Upon a Time, being on Neverland didn't directly make them quit aging, it allowed Peter (who had a whole ass kid) to revert to a younger age and stay that way.
@@vexywexypooAnd that kid was Mr. Gold!
@@mitchfletcher2386rumplestiltskin
@@mitchfletcher2386And Mr. Gold was Rumpelstiltskin and the beast from Beauty and the Beast.
Wait... I distinctly remember their "kiss" being a thimble?
19:24 Listen, this was a theme in the original book. Peter is actually the only child in Neverland who doesn't age. He lives forever but has a very short memory that prevents him from emotionally maturing or retaining any lasting trauma. These memories only show up for him in nightmares that he forgets about immediately after. In the book these nightmares are described as being about "the riddle of his existence."
cheezus dude. i thought it was just some fairy shit, why did it get deep
He also culls the lost boys when they start to get too old
@@kiv3745 Yeah that's just what the book is like, it's really sad.
@@KenikoB Yeah, it literally says that he "thins them out" it's like lord of the flies.
@@kiv3745 I mean, the whole book's like that. Why is Neverland a bunch of random unconnected 'Adventure Storybook' stuff? Because it's what kids like to make believe when they play pretend, and Neverland is where 'playing pretend' takes place. Peter is such an ass because he's like the concept of a child, come to life, unable to be anything but the concept of a child--he can't be anything other than a wild brat who only does what he wants and thinks violence is funny, he can't learn or grow because that would mean he's growing up and that's the opposite of 'being a child.' People die and come back to life because it's all make believe, except they really die and really come back to life. People get forgotten and it's the same as if they never existed. It all functions on kid logic ("pew pew, you're dead!" "no I'm not, I've got secret live-forever powers!") except that's really creepy if you actually think about it.

Okay but hear me out!
About the whole "jake doesnt fly after he saves neverland" thing, if my memory is correct they actually explain it in the episode, Peter Pan says "you can either come with me and be able to fly, or you can stay with your friends" implying that staying = no flight, which lets be honest is an even bigger dick move on top of not even allowing his friends to join in the first place
Yes. Exactly 💯
@@lilyyoung1002 Oh and I realized that the entire time they were tryin to make jake just *leave his crew* think about it, not just the first time I said, the second time hes given the power to fly, its when he becomes captain, now think about the show for a moment, name one other (RECURRING AND GOOD, so dont say hook or red because hook is evil and red disappeared) captain who has anybody with them in a crew, if you cant think of any, then you can see where I'm going with this, once again, both peter (and I guess the tree since it gave him the sword to find the colossus???) want Jake to abandon his crew (or maybe his worldly desires, if we were to make the avatar comparison) and then for the final one, only HE gets the super power of no-pixie-dust flight and for all we know, if he tried leaving with the power, maybe he wouldve kept it? All im saying is, SHADY AS HELL BRO
@@thesingingsirenz4714 well remember Peter Pan is also a pixie prankster prince that sometimes plays pirate because he gets bored of being the pixie prankster sometimes.
I think Peter as sassy as he is might have been trying to show Jake that being a pixie/fairy is a better course of action in Neverland than being a buckaneer.
@@timepilotcluefinder94 on one hand, that's a very good point, but on the other that doesn't change the fact he actively highlighted the fact Jake had to abandon his friends he's know for... who knows how long? And you can't just say Peter is a lone wolf trying to make jake take that same route either, he has his shadow, tinkerbell, and Jake himself technically if he actually agreed to the flight terms and conditions, so still kind of a rude thing to do

The whole acorn necklace being a kiss thing is a nod to the actual play btw.

I genuinely HATE any media that centers around sharing as its main moral because they never take the time to tell you that sometimes it's okay to say NO!
Sometimes its okay to not want to share an item, and it's not okay to bully or guilt trip somebody into sharing. Especially if it's a sentimental item (Glares at Elmo in Grouchland)
It's an especially important lesson to learn in this day and age to learn that its okay to not share FOOD! Because of how common and well known food allergies are, its okay to not share a food that might have an allergen, or a food only you can eat if you have a lot of allergies that severely limit what you can eat.
I dont expect nuanced morals in a show made for drooling babies but the whole "sharing is caring" thing needs to be expanded on in kid's media because Im tired of seeing main characters or even side characters being guilted into sharing
That’s… actually very valid. Would you say JatNP is that kinda show? Chase I remember them saying no

Like Jake letting Hook throw a fit and then rewarding him for it and even sharing his bday wish with him… at some point it’s time to say no
@@faithgaudi6191 also very true. I didn’t really catch onto this when I was younger, so now that I’m older, this event bothers me, and now I don’t enjoy the show as much anymore, which sucks
I feel like kids media should have the message "it's good to share but if you don't feel comfortable doing so you have the right to say no" hell that could have been a great message for the Hook birthday episode and have it be Jake placing boundaries and later have Hook respect said boundaries
Fun Fact: They totally could have done a crossover of Jake and Sofia the First, especially since Marina the Mermaid is voiced by Ariel Winter who voiced Sofia and they never recasted her and Marina and Jake were always teased as a couple, so they could have done a crossover where Marina and Sofia fought over Jake and Izzy taught them to not care about boys and be independent women, but really it’s just an excuse so she can have Jake all to herself in their hideout. Love the idea that Hook's crew just autobalances the server whenever the odds are uneven lolol
I always had this theory that Jake, Cubby and Izzy used to be members of the Lost Boys, and they got interested in the idea of becoming good pirates, which didn't appeal to the other lost boys, which was understandable regarding their experiences with pirates. So they were kicked out of the group, and Peter Pan decided to have them live somewhere safe so Captain Hook wouldn't find and potentially kill them in a defenceless state. He enlisted the fairies to help the three learn to fend for themselves gave them those things to do to strengthen them. Obviously, Captain Hook learned about their whereabouts at one point and the series events play out.
Pirates actually had surprisingly thorough rules per ship, so It's not much of a stretch that a group of pirates that stay around the same cove/island would get together to make a set of shared rules in addition to their ship's own rules.
If I remember correctly, the general rules for Pirates were:
A captain doesn’t make any serious decisions without first asking for the crews vote
Everyone is paid what they have earned(the captain WOULD get a higher amount but only by a small amount)
No Racism
No women(usually)
No staying up too late(unless you had night shift)
No gambling(on ship)
No stealing(on ship)
No heavy drinking(on ship)
Bathe when you can(mostly optional)

Edit: they need to be able to age otherwise Tiger lily would still be a fetus in her mother’s womb
I wonder if the neverland-borns age in the normal earth?
Neverland's rules are "you only age if you want to" otherwise you don't. It's very much "Imagination Island".
This is why i don't get people complaining about Disney Fairies. That was consistent, its characterization of Tink made sense because the first half of the franchise (timeline-wise, not release order) takes place before she meets Peter and the other half after he gets bored and ditches her (something in character for him), and most of what it added to the lore was from Barrie, like fairy talents and Captain Hook's purple blood.
In contrast, Jake and the Never Land Pirates makes *no* canonical sense, and the one thing everyone memes on is one of the few things that does ("good pirates" are kids playing around, in contrast with "bad pirates" who are actually pirates).
You might wanna consider making a part 2 to this video. The pilot was just leaked and there is A LOT you can go into. Just to name a few, Izzy's name was gonna be Ready (terrible name imo), Bucky had a FACE and could TALK, and there was a FOURTH pirate in Jake's crew. Definitely worth checking out.

I heard a theory from Isaac Carlson that Peter Pan and Jake both had to give up part of their soul to restore the Ever Tree, which explains why Peter’s shadow can detach itself.
It also explains why Peter had Jake go through the ritual, instead of doing it again. Peter presumably can’t afford to give up more soul, meanwhile Jake has plenty of soul to spare.

Yeah... I think you're missing out on a few key things by not reading the original book and/or play by J. M. Barrie. A lot of things you wonder about is pretty explicitly covered there... especially the acorn neclace/kiss. I notice other commenters have explained it, but just to be clear...
in the original play/book, when Wendy first sews Peter's shadow back on, she says she'll give him a kiss if he likes.
Peter doesn't know what a kiss is, so he holds out his hand, expecting a present. Wendy feels bad about confusing him, so she gives him a thimble from her sewing kit. (Later, when she actually kisses him, she calls that "giving him a thimble" to avoid confusing him.)
Later in the conversation, Peter says he'll give HER a kiss, which he now takes to mean "a small object." He gives her an acorn, which she decides to wear on a string around her neck.
This decision saves her life. Remember Tinker Bell tricking the Lost Boys to shoot at Wendy? Yeah, in the book/play, they HIT her. With a sharp arrow. But the arrow turns out to have hit the acorn neckace, so Wendy survives.
Course, this bit never made it into the Disney version, but it's iconic in all non-Disney versions of Peter Pan, which is probably why it was referenced here.
By the way, if you want a non-traditional rendition of the original Peter Pan play, I can recommend "Peter Pan Goes Wrong." It's about an incompetent amateur theatrical group who try to put on the Peter Pan play and absolutely EVERYTHING goes wrong. Actors miss their cues and forget their lines, every flying scene end in crash and disaster and/or the actors getting stripped to their underwear because their clothes fly off but they don't, music and sound effects going wrong, and several scenes where someone gets knocked unconscious and someone else has to take over the role... Peter Pan goes through three actors in the same show, leading to a bizarre twist where the crocodile ends up being the hero of the day. It's hilarious. ^_^
I’d love to cover more Peter Pan but I just figured since this is a Disney show I’d get the context I need through how Disney built up the world. Had no idea that they would have Easter eggs to things not within their own animated canon! Hahaha excited to cover tinkerbell and pixie hollows stand alone movies and I’ll try to go even deeper with those! Thanks for the comment!
@@AthenaPOfficial No prob. ^_^ It's also kind of interesting that you drew a number of conclusions about things that are almost directly spelled out in the book.
Like how not growing up means no emotional growth? Yeah, that's a pretty big part of Peter in the book. He never learns and never grows emotionally, because that would mean growing up on some level, and that's what Peter absolutely refuses to do.
There's this entire bit in the book where Hook tricks Peter with a pretty obvious ploy/lie, and Peter falls for it because he's a little kid and it doesn't even OCCUR to him that Hook wouldn't play fair. The narrative steps in to say that this isn't the first time he's been tricked like that and won't be the last time, because he always forgets it afterwards. Remembering would mean learning from his mistakes and growing up, and so he just DOESN'T.
It actually goes further; in the original story Peter actually kills Hook at the end. When he visits Wendy in London a year later, he doesn't even remember who Captain Hook is and is actually completely callous about it: "I forget them as soon as I kill them." Again, remembering and living with having killed someone would mean growing up on some level, so Peter just forgets in order to never grow up. Even more tragically, Tinker Bell is implied to have died as well, and Peter doesn't remember her either.
The original Peter Pan is really a very tragic character, but Disney toned him down a LOT. (Disney also made the decision to have Hook survive because Walt correctly surmised that the audience would finds him entertaining and not want to see him die.)
Finally, it's revealed in the book that Neverland doesn't actually stop you from growing up; it IS possible to grow up there... it's briefly mentioned that if a Lost Boy starts growing up, Peter will either kill or banish him. The details aren't really revealed until in the sequel "Peter Pan in Scarlet" (written by Geraldine McCaughrean for the Great Ormond Street Hospital to make sure they kept the copyright).
Here it's explained clearly: You CAN avoid growing up in Neverland, but ONLY by utterly refusing to even entertain the idea. If a Lost Boy ever starts speculating about what he might become when he grows up... he WILL start growing up.
If this is canon to Disney's Peter Pan might be dubious, but it WOULD explain how Hook could be born in Neverland and be an adult. (The book's Hook very blatantly did not come from Neverland; he's implied to have been a British nobleman who turned to piracy, but Disney's Hook is clearly a different beast.)
I ramble on. Sorry. ^_^*
The Copyright for Peter Pan is owned by a Hospital (and still is to this day), and the author J M Barrie, gifted the copyright to them in 1929 and will continue to keep the copyright forever.
So when it’s up Disney can’t do Jackshit. They can just fuckin renew it.
@@fritzy8318@fritzy8318 At least in the UK. In the US, it is a different story.
Sharky and Bones' story is so cute, I'm glad this niche little pirate band found some big support!
i feel like the reason the kids never really get mad at Hook for endangering them is because they're aware of their cosmic roles and they know that no real harm can ever truly come to them. between the fairies and Peter Pan they know that they're safe no matter what
Curse you for dropping me into a fandom with barely any fan content. I am suffering.
SO TRUE
"I found a scroll, so your free will is gone now"
That sounds like a Wings of Fire reference
The father reminding you of captain hook is intentional. By tradition set by the play they're played by the same guy.
I don't know how likely this is, but it would be cool to see a lore video on Bubble Guppies. From the sheer amount of music in the show (including a Lady Gaga parody) to the amount of stuff the guppies get up to. Also the fact that there's only the 6 (later 7) guppies and everyone else is made up of lobsters and crabs is weird. Also they got a surprising amount of guest stars from RuPaul to Ozzy Osbourne.
Yes yes yessssss
Ask her please 🙏 😊
Ooh, not a bad idea!
i actually discovered poker face from BUBBLE GUPPIES
I really want her to this show was my childhood I watched it realigiously until I was 12
Jake and the never land pirates could find the one piece with their gadgets. They have something that just finds whatever they’re looking for, beeping when they get close. That’s insane.
I remember hating season 4 with all my heart as a kid, no more Sharky and Bones on the credits, Bucky is partly shafted by the new boat. Cubby, Izzy and Skully are also shafted hard to make Jake look cooler, and the shift from 'adventure' to 'action' felt really forced. Not surprised the show got cancelled afterwards
I imagine they call Captain Flynn legendary because he is based on real life pirate actor Errol Flynn.
And To create Red Jessica, the creators of JATNP were inspired by Shakira, right?
I say this, because now I've realized that Red Jessica looks like Shakira... But with red hair.
*The show creators making Bucky:* Ok, hear us out. The spawn of the Smart House from that old Disney movie and the Home Alone house, but make it a ship.
*Everyone else:* Genius

I kinda felt for the dad, because he was trying to live up to an impossible standard and was obviously very stressed. Doesn't justify taking it out on his family, but he eventually learns to not be such a dick. So I feel like if he grew up in a time with therapy, he'd be better.
Not justifying his actions but just saying that I think he has the potential to grow.
Yeah, the book explicitly states that the Darlings are trying to keep up appearances even though they don't even have enough money to hire a proper maid and have to use a dog instead.
Anyone who was born in 1985 or earlier (would be 10 years old in 1995, which is about when therapy became a thing in the USA) would have no actual psychiatric care. So it would make sense for the dad and well, everyone.
No wonder so many rock stars were so depressed. They were born against the norm of being a complacent little worker bee and had no outlet besides music and drugs.
In 1991 the Ugly Law was finally nullified and it was made a law that mentally ill people could seek care in an open and non oppressive facility like asylums. They finally realized people could be helped and be happy instead of locking them in an asylum and taking all their human rights away the second the person says theyre sad.
Pirates steal all the time. 😂😂😂 ("A good pirate never takes someone's property" my butt!)
A GOOD pirate, doesn't steal.
From the living, anyway.
They probably meant good as in morally good

THE WAY I THOUGHT IT WAS GOING TO SAY "UNALIVE YOURSELF" 😭😭😭💀💀💀
I know this is such an odd thing to get hung up on but my personal headcanon regarding why ticktock croc's kids also tick, is they probably learned how to do it since their primary parent is doing it constantly. some form of learned behavior i assume. also slayke and the neverland pirates was a fun part of my childhood i got to see torn to shreds for the lore here so thanks 👍
I’m surprised you didn’t talk about the episode where Hook becomes a witch and makes Jake absolutely scared of everything, and every time he finds out one of the kids is more brave than him, he tries to MURDER THEM.
oh I remenber that episode. That was crazy
This episode used to live rent free in my brain! I was unsure if it even existed, but I was so fascinated by it, I think it was my favorite episode. I’d forgotten the whole plot of it, I just remembered it was the one were Jake was scared and it was a big deal.
The acorn kiss necklace is from the play. It’s this running thread where when they first meet, Wendy lies to Peter about what a kiss is and gives him a thimble, so he gives her the necklace in return. The necklace does end up protecting her, and later on she comes clean and gives Peter a real kiss. Not remotely established in the Disney Expanded Neververse, but not just made up on the spot either
this is why Kingdom Hearts is superior with its use of Peter Pan: you can literally beat him up to "put him in his place"
I used to watch this show as a kid and I forgot all about it until now, this is definitely a trip down memory lane
Fun fact:The tinkerbell movie series explains Tick Tock crocs babies
oh that reminds me I want Tinkerbell Pixie hollow lore video
I agree that Jake and the Neverland Pirates and Sofia the First should have had a crossover. Also that one image of Jake and Sofia reminds me of Jelsa lol
And moreso,Sofia's voice actor also voices Marina.
And Jake and Marina have been heavily implied to be interested in each other.
You should check out this comment in the upper section about a crossover with the plot being about how Marina and Sofia fighting over Jake's affections, and there's a very crackfic ending to it
They should've had Sofia visiting using her mermaid powers
I remember as a kid I used to play with a boy who frequented the same park as I did and we would play Jake and the never land pirates. I simply followed his story as I didn’t want to be any of the characters but we marched around a circle in the sand while singing the pirate chest song. Such good times.
The pirate inventor isn't a pirate who's an inventor - he invents pirate inventions

Tinker bell (specifically from the pixie hollow movies) was one of my first animated crushes, and every time I'm forced to remember that she's legitimately an inch tall it's whiplash.
All these "Bob's Burgers" clips made me happy as it is one of my all-time favorite shows.
I remember watching this show and Jake's constant optimism was so funny😂

@@m.a.a.7463 I was wonder if I spelt it right or not, thanks man
The acorn necklace is actually from the original play. For a show that throws out so much of the lore it’s actually kinda nice that they played homage to it
I read a poem recently implying tic toc croc was supposed to symbolize captain hook being older than peter/the lost boys, and that time was chssing him. Diesnt really fit with the "no one on neverland ever ages" theory but it was a great poem
I absolutely cannot wait for the Pixie Hollow video. I love Tinker Bell so much that I have two whole shelves in my room dedicated to her.
25:45 to be fair, in regards to the fairies not helping the mermaid city: the only fairy who is able to swim is rani (if a fairy's wings get wet they can get way too heavy, but rani lost her wings due to stuff that's a long story so she's able to swim just fine) and idk if she can do much for the mermaids as one fairy. there's not rly much of an excuse for not helping skybird island tho, you do have a good point there.
The start... I want to wait but I can't.
Peter is human, or was. Barrie wrote Peter Pan remembering how his mother said of his dead brother it was good he never grew up, she could always remember him as a young boy. Peter was a baby in London that fell out of his pram and was stolen away by the wind. He brings boys to Neverland so they'll never grow up, but the Lost Boys do grow up, and he has to unalive them and bring more lost boys.
Also, the father is intentionally like Captain Hook. That's the allegory. And, Nana absolutely belongs in the canon of darling Disney dogs beside Perdita, Delilah, Lady, Peg, Rita, and Georgette.
Fun fact, this version of Captain Hook was one of my first fictional crushes.
The Same Thing Happened To Me With Red Jessica.
Every time she appeared in an episode, I got excited and fell in love watching her. The Episodes Where She Appears Are Some of My Favorites.
Plus Red Jessica is Super Attractive, and Has a Lot of Charisma.
I would have liked her to appear in Season Four, and in "Captain Jake: The Great Never Sea Conquest" Special.
But I have a question regarding her:
If the Creators of the series To Create Captain Flynn Were Inspired by Errol Flynn... To Create Red Jessica Were Inspired by Shakira, Right?
Because Now, After 10 Years, I Realize Red Jessica Looks Like Shakira, But Redhead and a Pirate.
Someone clarify my doubt, please.
Thank you so much.
Greetings from Argentina🇦🇷
The idea that Neverland doesn’t just stop you from physically aging, but growing as a person is actually a thing in the original source material. In the sequel to the original book when the now adult Lost Boys pretend to be children again Neverland’s magic turns them back into children and when they start acting mature they physically age until they are banished from Neverland.
The “kiss” acorn necklace actually comes from the 2003 live action Peter Pan movie! Wendy offers a kiss and after he doesn’t know what it she gives a thimble. In return he gives her a “kiss”, which is an acorn off his clothes. ❤
It’s from the original 1904 play…
And she gave him a “thimble” which was a kiss. Was hoping someone else remembered and commented!
