The Barbie as Rapunzel movie always meant a lot to me. Even before I realized how manipulative my own mother was, her story resonated with me. And honestly, her not even trying to escape for good until Gothel makes it very clear that she only has her own interests in mind... very relatable

I actually like that when Sasha and Yasmin put on the pixie glasses everything becomes more colorful. Like yeah, there’s bubbles and people with wings, but the vivid colors is a more subtle detail that shows the difference between the regular world and the pixie’s world. Even the regular humans get a bit more color saturation when viewed through those glasses.
Barbie swan lake has the funniest antagonists. The daughters laugh is just so funny . The animals that turn into humans but you can still tell what animal they are cause of clothes
"And Kelly wasn't in it" The most ironic part is that Chantal Strand, the voice actress who plays Kelly in the Barbie movies, including Barbie Rapunzel, is literally the voice of Breanna in this Bratz movie.
i wanna mention that if you apply adequate pressure to a part of you hair that isnt the root it makes it a lot less painful when the ends are pulled, just like tension on a rope. so if rupenzel held a portion of her hair it really wouldnt hurt too much for someobe to climb up the rest, especially if it was braided or tied.

Just to clarify for those who haven’t seen the absolute masterpiece that is barbie as rapunzel (not even being sarcastic), the plot does explain why she can’t just fly away on penelope the dragon. Gothel cast a wall of protection around the castle so that nobody would find them in the woods and it’s impassable unless you fly over the top and throughout the film penelope tries to fly over but can’t because she’s afraid of heights and falls down! No plot holes here

honestly the main reason i preferred bratz to barbie when as a kid was just cause they were more unique and outgoing with their style, while barbie dolls looked really boring to me. not to mention at the time poc barbies were not a big thing at the time 😬 so seeing the same girl everywhere was just meh. i do believe they put more thought into their movies tho so there’s a plus on that! and i think their more expensive dolls( tbh they’re all a lil pricey) like the holiday barbie looked like nice collectibles. but again, expensive as hell 😅

Okay I noticed 2 things he got wrong about Barbie Rapunzel: first of all, it is established that the dragon could not fly high and her getting that ability was a part of the climax of the movie. Secondly, Gothel didn't put that spell on Rapunzel before because she did not believe her to be a liar before that night. While we know that Rapunzel was not lying, she doesn't and we don't know if there is a spell to trap people regardless of whether they lie or not. I take my Barbie lore very seriously because that's what adults do.
What you said about Bratz being more inclusive with other skin stones is what made me want one in the first place. As a kid, all my Barbies looked the same, and then I got my Yasmin doll and she had tan skin, brown hair and brown eyes. She instantly became my favorite doll and I would take her with me everywhere. I still have her with me. That’s a part of my childhood that I don’t wanna let go because it really lit up my life at the time
One thing is the Bratz were never 'assigned' ethnicities, in order for everybody to relate - Yasmin covers brown, arab, latino people... Sasha represents anybody who is black, Jade is from Eastern Asia, and Cloe is white and/or any light-featured POC dpeending on how you look at them. It's the main thing that drew me to Bratz as a kid, and to this day. The one exception that comes to mind are two characters who are implied to be Arab/Amazigh (Alia & Katia).

I think that tangled handled the idea of rapunzel’s head/neck hurting when someone climbs her hair. In tangled rapunzel wraps her hair around a hook, which makes the hook hold the weight of the person instead of her neck.

Mattel sued MGA (Bratz distributors) because the creator of Bratz, Carter Bryant, was working at Mattel when he came up the idea for the doll line and such that the creation of a separate brand infringed on their contract with him! They actually won the initial lawsuit and were awarded $100 million AND the copyright ownership to the Bratz line but the decision was reversed in 2010 by the Court of Appeals and ownership was given back to MGA! There was also a recall of all Bratz products for a time when Mattel had won the lawsuit! It was a really wild time lmao!
Okay but Penelope wasn't good at flying at the beginning of the film and wouldn't have been able to fly her down. But after she's gained her confidence at the end and has some experience under her belt, she can get Rapunzel out of the tower. That's character growth ✋

There were multi races of Barbie while I was growing up, but the issue has always been that they never modified any of the facial features, they just made Barbie dark skinned or tan sometimes. (I was born in 1987)
Not flacking on Barbie but Bratz had basically almost every race such as Asain, Hispanic, Black, Caucasian, I think the only ones missing is probs indigenous and middle eastern. But the fact that they had all of those during release instead of adults and children having to wait decades later. Not only that to this day Barbie and Ken are the only advertised Barbies that I literally thought that black Barbie just came out in 2011
That’s not actually true, dark-skinned Barbies had a whole other face mold (African-American Barbie, I believe they were called). Especially for Barbie movies, the dark-skinned version of the Swan Lake and Princess and the Pauper dolls had completely different facial features

Also the -x at the end of gendered words is unpronounceable in Spanish, so it destroys the language's x location sounds and rules, wich are pretty strict to be accept as a proper Spanish term.
As a poc I grew up being absolutely obsessed over Yasmin from Bratz it was the first time I saw a doll with tanned skin like mine and I don’t think, until now just how much that meant to me when I was a young girl. Especially from a culture where you don’t see in media at allllll I’ll always have such a soft spot in my heart from Bratz.

Looking back the movie is actually really good, especially for kids, because not only does it show that it’s okay to break free from an abusive parent/child relationship (in the case of Rapunzel + Gothel), but relationships between parents and children that are strained by high expectations can be healed when the parent learns to accept and love their child fully for who they are (and that we all have inner abilities and powers that will develop in their own time, if we believe in ourselves)

I actually like that when Sasha and Yasmin put on the pixie glasses everything becomes more colorful. Like yeah, there’s bubbles and people with wings, but the vivid colors is a more subtle detail that shows the difference between the regular world and the pixie’s world. Even the regular humans get a bit more color saturation when viewed through those glasses.

Just to clarify for those who haven’t seen the absolute masterpiece that is barbie as rapunzel (not even being sarcastic), the plot does explain why she can’t just fly away on penelope the dragon. Gothel cast a wall of protection around the castle so that nobody would find them in the woods and it’s impassable unless you fly over the top and throughout the film penelope tries to fly over but can’t because she’s afraid of heights and falls down! No plot holes here

Okay I noticed 2 things he got wrong about Barbie Rapunzel: first of all, it is established that the dragon could not fly high and her getting that ability was a part of the climax of the movie. Secondly, Gothel didn't put that spell on Rapunzel before because she did not believe her to be a liar before that night. While we know that Rapunzel was not lying, she doesn't and we don't know if there is a spell to trap people regardless of whether they lie or not.

What you said about Bratz being more inclusive with other skin stones is what made me want one in the first place. As a kid, all my Barbies looked the same, and then I got my Yasmin doll and she had tan skin, brown hair and brown eyes. She instantly became my favorite doll and I would take her with me everywhere. I still have her with me. That’s a part of my childhood that I don’t wanna let go because it really lit up my life at the time
One thing is the Bratz were never 'assigned' ethnicities, in order for everybody to relate - Yasmin covers brown, arab, latino people... Sasha represents anybody who is black, Jade is from Eastern Asia, and Cloe is white and/or any light-featured POC dpeending on how you look at them. It's the main thing that drew me to Bratz as a kid, and to this day. The one exception that comes to mind are two characters who are implied to be Arab/Amazigh (Alia & Katia).
Knowing where they come from is probably going to pop up in the new Bratz show whenever that inevitably happens. I can't wait for more Bratz! Slay!

I think that tangled handled the idea of rapunzel’s head/neck hurting when someone climbs her hair. In tangled rapunzel wraps her hair around a hook, which makes the hook hold the weight of the person instead of her neck.

Mattel sued MGA (Bratz distributors) because the creator of Bratz, Carter Bryant, was working at Mattel when he came up the idea for the doll line and such that the creation of a separate brand infringed on their contract with him! There were multi races of Barbie while I was growing up, but the issue has always been that they never modified any of the facial features, they just made Barbie dark skinned or tan sometimes. (I was born in 1987)
Not flacking on Barbie but Bratz had basically almost every race such as Asain, Hispanic, Black, Caucasian, I think the only ones missing is probs indigenous and middle eastern. But the fact that they had all of those during release instead of adults and children having to wait decades later. Not only that to this day Barbie and Ken are the only advertised Barbies that I literally thought that black Barbie just came out in 2011

As a poc I grew up being absolutely obsessed over Yasmin from Bratz it was the first time I saw a doll with tanned skin like mine and I don’t think, until now just how much that meant to me when I was a young girl. Looking back the movie is actually really good, especially for kids, because not only does it show that it’s okay to break free from an abusive parent/child relationship (in the case of Rapunzel + Gothel), but relationships between parents and children that are strained by high expectations can be healed when the parent learns to accept and love their child fully for who they are (and that we all have inner abilities and powers that will develop in their own time, if we believe in ourselves)
