Turbo engine is the only downside. Naturally aspirated V6 is a bullet-proof engine that gives 3 to 4 mpg less than Turbo. But, will easily go to 300k with basic maintenance.
It's going to be hard for Toyota to live up to the previous engines as far as reliability, but I believe Toyotas engineers will surprise us as they continue to develop and perfect this engine.
The 4.0L V6 hasn't always been bulletproof. The head gaskets are known to fail in the early 4th gen 4runners basically requiring a new engine if not caught before it overheats.
I average 16mpg with my 2008 4runner. If I can average 22-23, that's a huge win.

They really missed the mark not keeping that v6. V6 hybrid should have been the way first instead of a 4cyl. 😞

I believe by now Toyota will have the engineering down much more. I suspect less bugs and recalls, but it is a new model so having some recalls is inevitable.
