You lost me at 4 cylinder. I don't give a shit how much power a turbo adds...that's too much mass for a 4 banger...that shit will wear out way too soon.
I used to think the same way, but Toyota has already proved they can make a hybrid 4cyl and a turbo 4cyl reliable. I doubt they would hurt their reputation by putting something out that’s unreliable.
If it was any other brand I would agree with you. Toyota however have near bullet proof 4 bangers. It is also designed for offroading, the important thing is torque. Torque is more towards the transmission being able to keep the motor in it's optimal torque revs. Which in this is at 4400 rpm (which is 278 lb-ft) which is not not going to be hard on that 4 banger.
The 1GR FE is the most reliable engine Toyota has ever made, the turbo 4 is a downgrade without question. This vehicle will definitely not last as long as the 5th gens do. Looks cool tho.

I think this thing spec for spec will be about 3k more than the current MSRP and the Hybrid will only be offered on the TRD-Sport Premium +, Off-Road Premium +, and the Limited and TRD-Pro/Trailhunter. Premium + is an 11k upgrade, and TRD-PRO around 15k, so the Off-Road Premium + will probably be around 68-70k cad. With the Pro pushing 75k…If I was in the market for a 4Runner I’d be jumping out right now and getting a new last gen and spending the difference on aftermarket upgrades, you will never save the price difference in fuel. Imagine a Bronco Sasquatch with another 10k in upgrades or a Rubicon.
ITS HAPPENING!!!!
Dammit. It looks like the back doesn't lie flat - for that split second we almost got a glance.
Holy shit, Toyota NAILED it.
They’re going to sell a billion of these at a billion $ a pop
Yeah, it's going to be expensive and super past the Land Cruiser price depending on trim. Anything with the hybrid Max will be over $60k in my opinion.
Doubtful, most purchased this because of the V6 and now they have been force by the government to neuter it and people will start to lose interest
Engine choice is a mistake. Could've kept the V6 as a 3rd option.
@@TermlessHGWthe v6 that doesn't exist in any new trim across the entirety of Toyota? The last one to have it is the Camry, and that will no longer exist as of later this year. They are simplifying their entire lineup to essentially use all the same driveline components. Let's hope as consumers it saves us as much money in repair bills as it saves Toyota in economies of scale.
@@TheBCninjait should’ve had the GX550 TTV6. At least as an option. Not that it would fix how fucking ugly it is
Throttle house isn't as good when either one of you is absent. Best duel hosting car review channel with your talents combined!
4 cylinder turbo is cute. Let me know how reliable it is after 200k miles.
lifespan 150k miles
@@vangtk10 tht engine is too small for such a big suv, not gonna last long
Love the reviews and you two are my favorite to watch. I think the trio all missed a big opportunity with not having a plug in version as well as a good 3rd row. Even the Sequoia has a horrible 3rd row that doesn’t fold flat. The closest one would be the Grand Highlander but it’s not very masculine. Still waiting on the perfect Land Cruiser/4Runner so I can trade in my current SUV.
One of the best looking body on frame suv in recent memories. It's a fresh breath of air for folks wanting to hold on to their faithful ICE.
yeah, if you like an engine that sounds like a prius.😂 ITS CUTE THOUGH
that engine is a dealbreaker
Hopefully the Hilux/Fortuner duo for the rest of us will receive an update or a new gen.
YES. But now that the Prado has been updated, hopefully that will happen soon too.
@1:10, the Lexus GX was not “twins” with the 4Runner. It was based on the Land Cruiser Prado, which wasn’t sold in North America.
They were..
GX, Prado, 4R of that gen were based on same platform.
*wipes tear from my eye.*
"It's beautiful."
The 4Runner hasn’t had a bad generation yet, I had faith this would be great when it finally came
Made in Japan, wow, so best build quality. This car will last an eternity.
Until it gets stolen. Toyota is doing nothing about this.
@@write2nickwhat does have to do with the original comment? Also thats why you have insurance…
@@ChocobohunterWell Toyota is the most stolen vehicle in my area so it doesn't matter if car will last forever since it won't be in your possession. The existing insurance policy doesn't cover stolen vehicles for some strange reason. You have to double your premium if you want stolen car coverage. I know I was also surprise to find that out. Toyota doesn't do anything to improve anti-theft feature on their vehicles neither.
I like the look of how the rear glass wraps into the roof, but the windows themselves don't, so that's just a styling element. That decorative glass is very vulnerable when loading stuff onto the roof rack...not that many folks will.
I love it! It looks so funky!
Wow what a huge improvement after a decade! Looks almost exactly the same as the last model.
Piano black fenders? Weird bull dog jowls on the front facia. Side profile has this weird old Chevy Tahoe thing going on. I wanted to like this so bad and while it’s not necessarily ugly, they missed the mark in my opinion.
i thought they were going to bring back the removable top as the 1st gen to compete with the Wrangler n Bronco
They nailed the stance
Looks Sick quite honestly
1:35 The gradual sadness in Thomas' exclamations
ehhh…no manual. Between this and Tacoma I’d go Tacoma. Between this and Land Cruiser I’d go Land Cruiser.
Same.
This looks insane! I love Toyota!
That bomb at 10:59 had me shook
The Land Cruiser Prado and Lexus GX have always been twins, some parts on previous generations are quite interchangeable. The 4Runner has been more of a Tacoma mate, although earlier versions were basically SUV Hiluxes
its irritating how they don't seem to acknowledge the fact that the Land Cruiser they are getting in the U.S. is actually the 4th gen PRADO, which as you say, has always been the GX twin, while the real Land Cruiser 300 is out there.
Mudbath colorway looks so cool
Y'all need like a detailed comparison at each of these types of vehicles together. Maybe a road trip in one new one and one old one as well?
You guys dirtied this car for Doug Demuro, didn't you?
😂😂😂😂
Really liking this new gen. Finally. Trail hunter seems like the winning trim. Would love an LC but the mark up is hilarious currently.

@@CassisBlu thank you for the declaration! lol I saw the video at "4 seconds" since posted.
That raised "TOYOTA " lettering on the dash looks really fun to clean around
Putting a four-cylinder turbo in a truck is going to be the worst mistake Toyota makes.
Man those setups on Toyota cars has just came out this year.... Can you at least wait 1 or 2 years before speaking on reliability? You don't know, I don't know, everybody has no fucking idea but everybody acts like they're fucking NASA engineers speaking about speculations.
@@p.a.d.5164 you don’t have to be an NASA engineer to understand that small turbo engines in large vehicles aren’t gonna be reliable in the long term.
Everybody dropped a 4 runner video
It doesn't look like a 4Runner. I prefer the current generation.
Lads the Waffling meter nearly hit 10/10 with you two today.
Every extra throttle house video needs to end like that from now on lol. 10:58
