Hi Scotty , what would be a good suv Mercedes-Benz be to buy. I'm thinking of a 350 but don't know a good year or even if I should get one.
"Magic Electricity" is generated by Magical Thinkers, with tax payer dollars.
Hey Scotty . LOL elec. cars . A guy got one and left Saskatoon mid. winter - 30 going to Regina . Got half way had to stop at Davidson for a four hour charge . 145 miles on a charge no thanks .
This one is a shocker...
3:39 Buy a Toyota PHEV instead. Best if both worlds!
I have a 2018 V8 Tundra with 20K miles on it, went to get an oil change last week, and they were begging me to trade it in on the twin turbo. I love the power of a v8 and after seeing this, I will keep it till I die.
Great choice! Stay far away from the new toyota/lexus models with the V6 twin turbos. Unless you don't mind a $35,000 repair bill after the warranty runs out lol
@BIgBass255 : As it ages, only let your most trusted mechanic service it or replace parts. Over time too many hands in the pot can break things. Enjoy!
If the engine would hold together, it would blow your doors off before it blows up.
They would love to put it on the lot because they know the value of the old ones and could sell it immediately
A six year old Tundra with 20k miles , depending on trim, options, etc, could easily be worth more than many new Tundras due to the lack of reliability in the new Tundra. Certainly they could make a whole lot more money off of your truck just by lowballing you on it and then turning around and selling it the next day for far more than they paid. I’d definitely keep it.
We have 2 from our Fleet that are getting engines, a 22 and a 23. The 2023 left one of my guys stranded. Dealership has no idea what to do yet.
Tundras?
My dad's F150 needs a new engine so he's using my old trusty 2008 Tundras with the 5.7L V8. Has 300,000 miles, really sucks how bad Toyota ruined the Tundra.

Imagine me and my wife and little girl stranded on the road because my 2022 Tundra engine broke down. What a shame seeing a Tundra TRD Pro being towed

I bought a 2020 tundra with the 5.7. I didn't want anything to do with the twin turbo v6. This just proves I made a good choice.
I drove 5 hours each way in April to buy a 2021 Platinum with 26k miles. Scotty definitely influenced my decision to buy the V8 instead of one of those twin turbos.
You made an excellent choice 👌 👏 👍 😀, it shows that you care about yourself and your money

What's even funnier is that the fuel range is only marginally better with the V6 twin turbo hybrid. They sacrificed the bullet proof V8 5.7 liter for like 1 mpg 😂
Unfortunately that 1 mpg is absolute gold when dealing with the EPA.
It's just stupid. Like Mazda changing their 2.5L 4-banger (solid engine w/ really good mpg) to include cylinder-deactivation.
"Now you'll get 28 mpg in city vs the 26 you were getting!" It defies logic.
@@chfpontiac5849what I’m hearing is….. abolish the EPA
It’s more like 5mpg better which is about 20-30% than the previous gen…. Nonetheless, this is a huge issue… honestly we can thank the current administration for the new CAFE standards for automakers.. Toyota had zero interest in going to Turbos.
It's not about MPG, it's about submission.
Not just engine problems. They have fit and finish issues. Build quality is sub par. I am sticking with my old Toyota's
Yes. Only new Toyota I buy will be from Japan- like the crown.
Agreed. Toyota is the new Stellantis Ram, Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep. Terrible body integrity and cheap build and engineering quality.
Any recommendations on year model
@@anxietyvibes 2010 and above are low problem years, 2019 they quit installing transmission coolers on the Tundra. I think the 2013 is one of the best years. but up to 21 they are descent.
My 08 1GR-FE 4Runner has 230k and drives like new. Made in Japan.
I went to buy a new tundra a month ago. Didn’t know they took out the V8s. Toyota Dealership was like these v6 turbos are better. I spent 3 hours at the dealership reading tundra threads & articles. Later that day I left with a 21 sr5 tss with 20k miles already had a 3 inch lift & 35s on it. Each day I’m more thankful for all these videos and threads. Especially since I pull my RV and trailer.
Metal shavings for over 100,000 engines?
Bull! It’s a design flaw. Admit it Toyota.
@@donovanchilton5817 Same thing happened with the 3.3 and 3.5 V6s. Too small journals, though they never admitted to it.
I with ya.
The engines are machining themselves as they run, perfectly normal.😑
I work at at Toyota Service center it is only 22 and begin of 23 engines that are failing. They have metal shavings all in them from producing its a Miricale they last as long as they have before failing.
It's not design flaw. It's intentional. Its supposed to last until warranty is over. They just miscalculated how long it takes to break down.
My father has a 2022 Tundra SR5 TRD Sport 4x4. He drives it a lot, and has racked up over 90,000 miles since he purchased it. He has had no issues with the engine at all. (Even it being the first next-gen tundra at the dealership he got it from). He did recently have a pin-hole fuel leak somewhere near the tank in a fuel line. It didn't cost him anything as it was already recalled. but he didn't get a notification for it for some unknown reason. Besides that, he has had no issues with it. He has a 2-inch level kit in the front and even upgraded the tire size. Still no issues.
I purchased a 2022 Tundra TRD Pro and the engine broke down twice! Toyota gave me a rental 2023 Tundra SR5 the basic model and it's reliable af. No issues speeding, towing, and everything else. Only comment here is that the suspensions doesn't feel as smooth as the TRD Pro due to perhaps the Fox suspensions, giving you a smoother ride
I have a 2022 tundra tss no issues! I DID AN OIL CHANGE AT 1,600 MILES THEN @ 6K AND SHE HAULS JUST LIKE THE V8! SHES A BEAST NO ISSUES! HAD ALL MY RECALLS DONE! I'M SORRY FOR THE ISSUES PEOPLE ARE HAVING BUT AGAIN, YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO DRAIN YOUR OIL IN ANY NEW MOTOR WEATHER LAWN MOWER TRIMMER COMPRESSOR OR A TRUCK SEMI CAR!!!
I bought a 2021 V8 Tundra. Last year of the V8. I will never sell it or Trade it. Love it. Pills my rv with no problem.
Good for you.2019 sequoia platinum will never sell it too
Me as well.. I smelled a rat on the v6 twin turbo
give it time greenhorn
You know it is a severe problem when people are returning their tundras with a blown engine at 7,000, miles!!
To be accurate if we are going to criticize Toyota, this problem with metal shavings is happening in US Tundra's and Sequoias as well as Lexus, which are built in Japan, and as far as I can tell, with essentially the same motor but cast and built in Japan. If that is true, then this process control failure is occurring at more than one engine plant.
Which means its more likely a design flaw vs quality control. How does QC fall apart world wide across both Lexus and Toyota? Its not debris!
@@BorderTurrets It’s possible it can be a combination of things with the design being absolutely fine, but the Process Control isn’t and the QA isn’t. If you have programming that isn’t just perfect for boring or drilling oil passages in journals or the inadequate programming of machine that is supposed to clean the shavings completely out, you would have this mistake in both locations on both the drill processes and debris cleaning. The QA may be automated as well…
It's a race to the bottom. These companies are producing anything they can before shtf.
It's called planned obsolescence, it forces us to waste more of our heart earned $$$ for another vehicle
Profit Profit 👈
@@nasirnasiry2836 I don’t necessarily think you’re wrong. However profit isn’t a bad thing. They won’t make a profit if they build crap and the factory is shut down.
@@Vincent-ke5zn Toyota didn't become king by putting out planned obsolescence vehicles. They won't change their philosophy now. It's a brand new engine, they'll work it out.
@@crabbymilton390 I think that all profit is a negative thing because over a long enough period of time the incentive to profit will always drive anyone or any company to become morally evil and try to screw others over for pennies. Our entire "civilization" is centered around money though so its far too late and all that is left is to watch humanity destroy itself, money is the "god" of this world and it has infected almost everyone now.
Same thing is happening with the new Lexus GX550 as well. They have stopped deliveries, claiming it's a QC problem with the sunroof. The sunroof does have issues, but that's not why their halting deliveries.

Like you, I had great success with an electric lawn mower and a 6,200 foot lot, and maybe 1,300 feet of lawn. The major disaster was when I did not leave it plugged in one winter, and the battery lost 70% of its range.
Should have stayed with the V8
Blame the Dems for voting for the green garbage.
Yeah, but the EPA cares about mpg, smog, etc., not reliability.
Scotty said in the previous video that Toyota knows how to make quality turbo v6s
They are only incentivized. Toyota can choose to still sell NA engines. They just want the FED money. Also, all the R&D is going to electric. “They” don’t want us to be able to travel anymore. All part of the elites master plan.
Had the V8 for 14 years. Engine just as strong on the last day as the first.

And I just purchased a 2024 Nissan Titan last week with a naturally aspirated 5.6L Endurance V8 and it seems to be a very nice and apparent underrated truck thus far.
I still remember those Snapper electric push mowers that took an extension cord, my neighbor needed to splice his cord multiple times each summer!
Both the new tundras, tacomas, & 4 runners (next year) are trash. They purposely made these vehicles too complex and DIY less friendly so that people will keep buying more of their vehicles as they break early. Me, I am keeping my old Toyota.
yep, tbh, within the past 2-3 years the fords are better than the new toyotas. i don't like the way ford went either with the tiny turbochargered engines in the bronco and ranger but at least they hold up.
Remember when they had rusty frames on their trucks? They kept it under wraps. Some dealers had people dedicated to replacing frames full time.
Yep. LOTS of 2000 - 2007 Tundra/Taco truck owners up in the Northeast had major league rust out problems with their frames, and Toyota was very resistant to really resolving the problem.
@@eskieman3948 Toyota loyalists usually deny these issues and still think their brand is perfect.....
I was considering a Tundra but not anymore...
I’m a Toyota loyalist who was going to drop serious cash on a 24 TRD Pro but their QC has seriously deterred me. Gonna go to the used market until they get a grip
Scotty! You're spot on! I got a 2022 Tundra TRD Pro here in Ontario Canada used for 36k KM in Nov of last year and the engine broke down on me TWICE this year!! the first time, they said they replaced over 30+ parts of the engine back in April 2024, then I literally drove it for 1 week then the truck broke down again!!! This time, they're saying they'll replace the entire engine, and so far, I'm waiting. It's been over 1 month now! It's ridiculous how Toyota got this wrong! Idk if I should sell it or not
I got images of my truck ripped apart in pieces at the dealership waiting for new engine parts. It hurts every time I look at those pictures.
I don’t think it’s loose metal debris that fell in. I think that’s front bearing material because they used a ladder system to secure their bearings not one cap per bearing. It’s my belief that the ladder system acts like a heat sink and expands and pushes out the front bearing. I’ve seen pictures that looks like they drilled some holes and tried to bolt near the front bearing to try to prevent the expansion on their one piece ladder system. Checking the bearings and measuring them is a waste of time
This post is helpful and I might've just learned something. Thanks.
Not convinced that’s the root of the problem. They talked about the bearing changes
Front bearings. BINGO
I have a Honda Civic with the Turbo engine. Some You Tuber Guy has like 700,000 miles on his turbo Honda! I like the Turbo that Honda put out, works great for me!

I think the Frontier is better looking....more masculine, not all Subaru-butch looking like the Tacoma. Also, would rather have the NA 6 in the Frontier.........
I liked it when people weren’t paying attention to the Frontier. Now prices will go up.
As a landscaper, battery powered equipment is fine for string trimmers and things of that nature with small motors. But the technology would have to be much further along for me to buy a battery powered riding mower.
I have a v6 naturally aspirated direct injected palisade. Installed an oil catch can, and change the oil every 3,000 miles. Engine and transmission rock solid.

@@timesofyourlife1 I disagree but it feels good to say it that way.
It makes no difference. quality build is going down the toilet with many car manufacturers, sad. Profit is king.
Made in ‘Murica!
Like Boeing, even Toyota's succumbing to pressure to go down in quality.
When others in the automaker market are hot on your heels sometimes even those known for a reputation of quality have to do this. After all they have to answer to shareholders who care about a return.
Its governmnet mandates that are sending Toyota down the tubes. Otherwise they could stick with there tried and true designs. Now they have toi change to meat these government mandates.
Just traded my '22 Tundra with 23.5k miles for a '19 TRD Pro with 169k. I'm sure the V8 will serve me better than the TTV6 will serve the next owner. I didn't have engine related issues during my ownership of the '22, but it's not an experience pre and post engine rebuild that I wanted to endure. I had plenty of other QC issues though and ultimately I believe the 2.5 gen is just a more rugged, durable truck.
How much is peace of mind worth. A lot. At times I've been willing to lose a few bucks on a vehicle just to have that. I like your approach.
You traded a $50K truck for a truck with almost 200k miles on it - !!?? Man, I think you were desperate.
I will take "dumbshit people make up " for 500 Alex.
Lmfao 😂
The most important concern is the repair cost of $32,000! If someone encounters this issue after the warranty expires, how can they afford $32,000? After 6-7 years, low-trim trucks may not even be worth $32,000, which means these trucks could end up in the junkyard if their engines fail.
Toyota has a real mess to straighten out on the new Tundra. I think they are not telling us all they know what is wrong with the V6 turbo.
I think it’s a bad design and they are trying to decide what the cheapest thing is to do
Sister buys a new Tundra every other year. Salesman at the dealership told her not to buy a new one for at least several years. Let Toyota to work the bugs out.
Their quality is starting to go downhill, like the rest of the automakers.
Cheapest thing to do, mechanics will always get the shaft.
Nissan Frontier and Titan both don’t have turbo engines. Both sound like a better deal new these days…

Not heard/read of anyone having any issues with either model.
@@NVRAMboi if you came from a 2nd gen Tundra with the 5.7 you'll feel right at home in a Titan. The VK56VD/ 9 speed will net you 1-2 MPG better than the Tundra while making it to 300K miles quite easily.

What we did find is that there is a big gas smell in the oil.
Toyota may think that there is debris in the motor causing the problem.
We suspect that it’s really bearing wash caused by gas getting into the motor oil.
I am going to keep up the frequent oil changes.
Plate C
It's ridiculous to have to change the oil that often.
Dump it, get rid of it brother. You have time
Get rid of it before it's too late and get your money back!
2002 Tundra 212,000 20 years ownership. Bought with 26,000 glad to still have it.
I have heard the new Tacoma turbo 4-bangers are spinning bearings like crazy…thanks I’ll pass.
Oof I'll keep driving my 2016 4runner till it won't run anymore
You knew that was coming.
YUP Next up on the plate of death.
And they ain't cheap either.
I like my 2017 but I do NOT want a turbo in my truck? I just want a decent v6 or v8 NA engine that'll last 300k .......
@@derekp6636 I believe Nissan's got your back if you want a long lasting new truck w/o Turbo. Ford may as well since they still offer the Coyote V8
The new 4Runner motors will be next. Hmmm ? All other new Toyota engines ???
Glad I have the 3.5 L V6 N/A. Should last forever compared to the new engines.
I have a '17 Tacoma TRD Sport with the V6. Paid $28k. Was offered $30K IN CASH a few months ago. I said nope. I plan on keeping it for a very long time.
Very strong engine.
Change oil+ filter at 5K every time, don't buy the 10K nonsense.
I have an -18 TRD OR LB. I'm sticking with it.
My daughter in law had this happen to her year old Tacoma. Luckily she had an iron clad warranty and they replaced the engine. I felt bad because I talked her into a Tacoma in the first place. My 2015 model has been flawless.
I have a 2013 trd sport that I bought new. $30k no problems, great truck.
the 2015 4.0, The best tacoma made. period. those 3.5 puss mobiles do not count.
Count on Toyota to stand behind their products and fix the problems with their vehicles; something many manufacturers don’t do.
This is NOT an easy fix as you think it is...
They did not do that with the sludge in their early 6 cylinders unless you knew the secret words.
They haven't fixed but a few so far.
100,000 +++ to go.
Don't hold your breath.
Flog your 22/23/24 as fast as you can. Or you will be walking or getting the Amish to deliver your work stuff to the site!
Just saying ...
You just might be lucky.
Why wouldn’t they? It’s their problem that they created. They better stand by it on these overpriced trucks and SUV.
@erichargaden397 toyota released a customer support program to address the sludge issues which is separate from a recall
All new engines are way down on reliability. Direct injection and variable valve timing be the biggest problems. Too complicated
NEVER buy the first generation of any engine (in this case - the V35A engine)!
Never buy first generation anything that is mechanical, especially when the government makes the rules on what the outcome of the product should be. I worked for Briggs and Stratton.
In this case its 2 + years of engines. I heard a 2024 owner had 2 engines replaced so far. I am curious to see how they fix this!
Read this people thinking about the new Ram TT straight 6. first year. More power than the Hemi it's replacing but you know it's going to cost a big time to fix
I love my first generation LB7.
@@ronfazer24232018 to be specific, it came first on the LS in that year.
RIP Toyota! Didn't it just get announced that Toyota falsified tests too... I believe that's what the headlines I skimmed said.
Yeah three bottles sold in Japan only at least that’s what we know so far anyway
Falsified safety tests. Not only Toyota, Hond,Mazda, Suzuki and others. Seems like collusion on how to rig the system.
Yes. Along with (allegedly) falsifying some mandatory safety testing requirements. First their was their HINO truck Division, then their Daihatsu car division and now this. I've kinda lost count between scandals and recalls details (internet search knows). It's been a very "un-Toyota-like" last 3-4 years.
Guess I will hold onto my 2018 Tundra with the 5.7 V8 for. a few more years. Rock solid!
Good thing Scotty knows everything about electric mowers without actually using one!
I have mowed for 7 years with an EGo with no trouble. Still on the original battery.
I've heard that Teslas have a lot of cabin problems, stuff falling apart and wearing out too soon looking like an old car after a couple of months
Really hard to say as their are a ton of vocal Elon fanboys.
I have had my Model Y for a year now and no problems with it at all. Saved over $2,800 by NOT buying gasoline in California
I rented a Turo 2018 Tesla Model 3 with 48,000 miles on it. I drove it 817 miles in 2 1/2 days. The quality of the interior seemed pretty good to me. It was fast and fun to drive as well. Rent one and see for yourself.
Bring the 5.0 V8 to replace the V6TT. I have a 24 Tundra and a 23 LX600 and would love to swap out those two engines for that one.
Bought a new Mazda CX5 , Three words sold me MADE IN JAPAN ………..🇯🇵. Quality control undeniably is proven time after time. For what ever reason. Not emotional simply factual. 😎😎😎
A lot of Toyota models for sale in the USA are still mfr'd in Japan. Mazdas too. Our Mazda was built in their Hiroshima facility. I still miss that car.
Agree !!!
Will be replacing my wife's '17 Nissan Rogue with a CX5 when I retire in 3 years.... Mazda still using tried and true 2.5L engine and 6 speed trans.... no CVT !!!! 👍🏼
@@NVRAMboi Is it radioactive?
Mazda quality is very good, building great cars ever since they kicked Ford out the door in 2012.
The engine was engineered in Japan. This is a design problem.
Sad part of the turbos is, when they go bad, you have to remove the CAB. Imagine the shop labor on that one.
I might have to go back to dealership flat rate to capitalize on that gong show
I’m a newly owner of a 2.7 2015 sr5 and I’m glad my truck will be far more reliable than newest ones
Serves Yota right. Raising prices 30% at the same time cutting labor from $15 to $2 per hr. Karma is coming for the greedy and I'm here for it!
Don’t follow on the labor savings. Tundra is made in Texas. Doubt labor has been anywhere near $15 an hour for years either.
@@craigmoody3812 You actually just proved my point. They sell WAY more Tacos and Corolla (made in Mexico) than they do Tundra. And I was just spitballing 15 an hr. Go ahead and make that number higher and further prove my point. They are saving an easy 80% in labor in that Mexico Factory and they didn't pass a dime along to us in savings. Instead, they jacked the price up 30%.
Toyota replaced its V6's with turbo 4's, and its V8's with twin turb V6's. Poorly. Quality went into the toilet, while even under the best of conditions these more highly loaded engines will never last as long as the motors they replaced. Buy a recent model used truck if you can with the naturally aspirated engines. This basically is due to EPA fuel economy restrictions.
This is just not true, I have a brand new Ford work truck with a 302 NA V-8, for some reason Toyota has decided no force the turbo only option on its customers, look around, other companies are still making NA engines
No electric vehicles
No hybrids
No VCM
No water pump inside the engine
No Direct Gas Injection
No GM
No Dodge / Jeep / Suzuki / Fiat / Nissan
No first edition anything
No Turbo Charger
For SURE no TWIN turbo charger
No Jatco CVT
What trucks are left? Ford 5.0?
No cars for you!
@@BernardosTrainingpretty much.
GM V8's were bulletproof until they ADDED that stupid Active Fuel Management that taxed the valves.....THANKS OBAMA with your CAFE standards / demands....
The laughability of all this are the Toyota Cult Members who, at their peril, continue to purchase these overworked, over-engineered engines. They killed reliability in the pursuit of 1 to 2 MPG. The only thing worse are Hybrids and Start/Stop technology.
The engineers and upper management that built Toyota's reputation have long been retired. This is not the same company it was years ago. They are remind me of Boeing.
No question Toyota is 100% responsible for not having these problems sorted out prior to release (including the Tacoma issues in that as well) but it’s the government that is to blame for all the car manufacturers resorting to these less than desirable drive trains to meet emissions.
You need to blame CAFE standards set by Obama.
I don’t usually agree, but I have two friends working at the local Toyota dealer and this is true
And these are the reasons why the previous CEO abandoned ship...he didn't like the direction Toyota was going
Akio Toyoda was moved up to the "Chairman" position from "President". He's still around and I'm glad. His name is on the product.
Well. At least he voted with his feet, and nothing stuck on the souls of his shoes.
Smart man. Japanese BMW's What a combo poop sandwich!
You can delegate authority, but you can’t delegate responsibility - Akio still on the hook!!
Scotty always throwing shade at Mexico
for good reason
They suck!
I have experienced that personally with Mexican built trucks. 97 Tahoe , 97 Ram 2500.
I would have more confidence in the quality of a Car produced by hard working Mexican folks, than anything produce by UAW flunkies.
They NEED shade....... Its really sunny there
Going to stick with my 1987 Yugo for time being.
i will stick with my 1979chevy C20 Silverado custom Deluxe
Trying to remember....was it the doors falling off or the tie rod ends breaking that killed the Yugo?
🥑
It's not just this engine, look at the Boxer engines on the GR86's over the past few years. There are so many RTV debris that apparently are showing up in oil pans and the oil filter pleats, yet Toyota does nothing about it. It's absolutely stupid that Toyota has not even addressed this issue over the past few years on this particular vehicle, yet the damage can lead to a blown rod bearings among other things, which destroys your engine. Hope you still have your warranty when something like this happens.
They probably didn't get the chips out of the crank after drilling the oil holes.
It's no longer Chevy vs Dodge vs Ford or gas vs diesel or even automatic vs manual it's all of us against this electric s***!!!
I was waiting for this one! They are using the "machine debris" for the Tundra and the Tacoma even though they are built at two different plants. LOL!
Lexus LX600 too. And those are built in Japan.
Debris and driveline of 2022 and 23 Tacoma. No debris in engine issue on 2024 Taco
@@jonathanratliff4780 my local dealer has a tacoma waiting on a new engine. it's a 2024, and the owner is furious.
@@jonathanratliff4780 happening on 2024s also
Kia did the same thing "engine debris" for all their engines that blew up lol. Ba by toyota
I have a bunch of eGo tools: blower, chainsaw, trimmer, etc. All work perfectly fine. No stinking gas mixing, no service, just charge a battery and you're good. If they would sell a mower for a reasonable price I would buy one. $6K Canadian isn't a reasonable price.
Why not do a oil analysis and look for high levels of metals? That's what everyone does to check the bearings in the V8 M3s.
If you buy a Tundra from Mexico it does come with a red chalk statue of a bulldog. Or blanket. Your choice. Sombreros can be had for a small additional fee.
haha. And a die cast Chevy Astro minivan.
Yes Scotty you were right all along and you did warn us. Glad I waited it out.
Scotty said in the previous video that Toyota knows how to make quality turbo v6s, so don't worry about loosing the V8.. haha
Gm had the same problem years ago. They had over 20,000 bad engines and didn't do a recall.
They still have problems
@@whowantstoknow8492 They issued a TSB for those engine issues and have issued another one for the 6.2 ecotec. That said they sell far more pickups than Toyota does.....
I don't buy the metal fragments story. I think they have a stress problem with the added power from the dual turbos. Something is breaking down to the added stress.
putting a magnet on the bottom of the oil pan will catch loose stuff and hold it in place. A help but a cure. Back in the day, GM transmissions used to have one on the trans pan for decades to catch medal
