Ryan, I seriously have to give you and the crew major props for the quality of your videos. I just watched TFL’s videos, and while they’re my go to for a lot of things they missed the mark with the quality and detail of their released video. Looking forward to your future updates and tests!
I really dont like the grey/green that is inside the trailhunter. It looks like a weird grey mint or something, and I guess they dont have color options bc they keep showing this ONE combo
Great video, at first I was bummed by all of the stock Toyota supplied footage and that you weren't actually there. But the level of detail you went into and covering all the trims was so much better Than, the video I just watched where the two guys were there. Great job
Brother you won’t have to replace your current 4Runner in ten years unless you want to!! On my used 1997 I drove her for 346,000 miles until I sold her. My neighbor still driving her!! I really like the Trail Runner trim. But I’m afraid that it will be a $60K+ 4Runner!!
I just purchased my outback wilderness (largely influenced by this channels reviews) and truly love it. But man, this trailhunter is just on another level of manliness.
Not surprised he got one of the first few invites to review the new 4Runner. This guy just does it effortlessly with perfection. GX 550 OVERTRAIL PLUS, is my first choice, then the trailhunter.
Did he though? Isn't he just talking over footage release by Toyota? Or did I miss him saying something about an invite in the video that I missed? Throttle House at least made a video of it in person.
I LOVE your off road reviews. Best reviewer out there in this department in my opinion. I really like how you drive slowly enough for the vehicles system to figure out traction management and not just drive it like a hooligan like other reviewers do, thank you for that.
I really loved the production quality of this video! It made me want to sit down and _really_ pay attention to this one. I've been viewing long enough to know you're a big fan of the 4Runner, so this was a very creative way to show your passion and build a lot out of a little. I dunno if this might be an odd thing to compliment you on but it really stood out to me so I wanted to let you know. ✨

What a beautiful car and a true 4x4 beast. I'm stunned by Toyota recent design language... So aggressive and a huge improvement over their usual classical boring designs
I don't understand Toyotas logic with some of these new suv releases. You have a 4runner vs a LC250 vs a GX550 (99% similar everything outside engine setup). How do buyers distinguish between a 4runner vs a LC250 when they are all made in the same factory. And when you look at the prices between a high end TRD Pro 4runner vs LC250 entry level trim, it's virtually same price, similar engine setup, etc. Then you got the GX550 with way too much tech vs tried and true old classical keep it simple engineering on Prado/GX460, etc. New Toyotas are a big disappointment that simple rely on loyal Toyota buyers to buy these new unreliable tech toys on wheels. Nissan/Infiniti 2025 models earned my business. Snatched a 24 Nissan Patrol as well to complement my 21 LX570. Now how to import it to the states from Dubai is a different story. 😅
@@sportsinvestor101 Toyota is doing what any titan company likes to do: siturate the market segments with their cars to make any customer whatever he wants, finds something within their wide range! And this strategy, as costly as it is for Toyota, works well in sales! Regarding that Everest comment.... It's funny if you know that the Bronco used to have trim packages called Standard, Mid, High, and Luxe. For 2024, they combined the High and Luxe, so folks in the forums understand this as High/Luxe. 😂
Love it! All the other reviews I’ve seen on the 6th Gen 4Runner are largely carbon copies of each other with the same static footage. You brought a refreshingly different approach and like others have already shared, you deserve major props for standing out in a crowded space. I put my deposit down on a Trailhunter- can’t wait! Thanks again!
Great detailed review! Loved the comparison. Do we know if any trim of the 2025 4runner will have the KDSS suspension like the 5th gen TRD offroad has?
Best video of the new 4Runner I’ve seen so far. Great Job! Looking at the Taco it seems like top trims of the new 4Runner will cross 60K. It’s the world we live in, but seems very close to the new Land Cruiser…. Seating position of the Land Cruiser will be better without feet laid out in front of you like the 4Runner..
Glad this gets memory seats. I still can't believe they left that off of the 2024 Tacoma. Litterally the only feature I noticed missing. Hopefully the 2025 Tacoma fixes that problem.
So the trailhunter doesn’t have a full time 4wd while the limited does but doesn’t have crawl control or mts. I want the trailhunter but i live in Seattle and it rains all the time. I like the added safety of awd. Will the trailhunter part time 4wd make sense in seattle rains?

All those hoses in the engine bay just make me think of how less reliable this engine will be. This is going to majorly change the ownership experience of a 4Runner and, IMO, take away one or the key benefits of the 4Runner over its competition.
The engine compartment looks like a horrendous pile of problems, 4 cylinder with a turbo no thanks. Next they will make it with a CVT lol. I love my old 4 runners (2000 and 2002) for their simplicity and everything else that made Toyota so good. New Toyotas are overly complex expensive garbage.
This is the first 4runner since my 2000 3rd gen came out that finally hits the mark. Good thing mine has held up so well since it's taken 25 years to get here. Not thrilled about the very limited engine choices though. 2025 and we still can't get a diesel in a 4runner for the US market?
Is the alternator able to push the 2400 watts continuously? If it is just battery then it won't power an outlet from more that half an hour. Here in Houston it might be a useful feature if yet another hurricane comes through to power lights and a fridge in a home..
Probably need to do this on a different video Ryan, but Toyota really needs to consider putting multi terrain select all 4WD 4R, Land Cruisers, etc. Even some crossovers of other brands have MTS. Yes leave the rear locker for the more off-road oriented trims like off-road Pro TrailHunter. But out here in the Outer Banks sand mode is clutch.
HI David, I currently have a R4P and have made four surf trips to Hatteras so far this year but never been on the beach. I know there are sand bars out there waiting for me but I've been scared to take the R4P onto the beach. Do you think the sand mode is sufficient to get the R4P safely onto and off the beach at any of the ramps?
I think this is finally the vehicle to get me out of my RS3 and higher off the ground! Just talked to my Toyota dealer’s GM to get on the list for a TRD Pro!
As always Sir.....an Awesome and thorough introductory review. Looking forward to a proper trail opinion now. My first impression is that my 5th Gen 2020 TRD ORP "Venture" (non-KDSS) just gained several $K in resale value. And....I am not going to sell it just to have the newest 6th Gen. Not really "that" impressed, especially considering price "leaks" bouncing around the net. Just my $0.02 worth. You have surely answered many new car buyers questions, over many years and makes/models, simply from your transparency, tact and detailed information! Much respect and thank you for what you do Sir......Happy Trails!
They still did well for it to look like a typical 4runner, even though it has a tacoma vibe to it. Am digging it. It has no engine cover. The TRD looks very cool.
Well I was thinking about maybe a Ranger with the FX4 package or a Tacoma TRD Off Road (still need to sit in it though) but now seeing the 4Runner, I’m thinking this in the TRD Off Road trim. Totally appropriate for living here in the PNW. Really like the style and the cues to previous gens.
Will all the 2025 4runner trims have those cool black fenders around the wheel? Or just the TRD Pro and Trail hunter? Asking because the Limited fenders have the matching body color so I’m curious what all the other trims will have?
Best detailed coverage yet! But do you like the new 4R? You were there. You had 1st looks, 1st hands on. Do you like the engine choices? 8 gears now? DC sway bar? No more KDSS? TRD and trailhunter get more GC? How much more? Is the power lift gate on all trims? Does the rear locker engage quicker now? From what I see and know thus far, glad I have my 2018 TRD OR and I am NOT trading up. It would be a trade down IMO. The Land Cruiser has more curb appeal. And I don't like its engine choice either. lol
I wasn’t there though we had a camera op there. I was already scheduled for Hyundai event at Laguna Seca on the same day. Most of the questions you had I already asked them. They had ZERO answers at this time. “More information later” was their reply to every question. These were very early builds.
Ryan, when it comes to off road analysis of passenger vehicles you are the best prepared by far. The hard work that you put into your testing facilities and video’s, not to mention your knowledge makes a world of difference to me. The fact that you didn’t waste your time traveling down to San Diego for a non-driving review says it all. Let the posers and interlopers do that.
The door tag only says mid-800lbs payload max. But I'd wait until final numbers are announced before relying on that. Toyota has not announced official payload yet.
Solely appearance wise the Trailhunter looks awesome...really dig the everest color. It looks like they took a combination of the shape of 3rd gens and 4th gens to come up with the shape and contours of the 6th gen.
My 2004 sports edition is begging to be replaced. I wanted the TRD Pro, but I can’t do camo seats. So I’ll have to go with the Trailhunter (as long as it’s not over $65K). Anything more, I’ll have to get the GX550 Overland+ when the hybrids launch.
I like it and I don't like it. What I really like about the 5th gen is the that it has more of its own design, while the 6th looks more like a Tacoma with an additional roof over the bed. I know that the design of the rear windows is a tribute to the 1st gen, but to me it looks a bit displaced. However, this is all in the eye of the beholder. I am not too big of a fan of the tablet display, but this is just the new feature in all modern cars. I also like the manual transfer case shifter in the 5th gen better rather than the electronic dial, but this is a question of preference as well. What I really like is the hybrid drive train, which I would like to have. Over all, it is a very good looking car and as much as I know Toyota it will last forever. Great job Toyota and many thanks to Driving Sports TV for giving us the insight.
I have a highly modified subaru forester wilderness, but I'm thinking a few years down the road, I'll be going for that trailhunter when it's time to get a new vehicle!
glass on the rear panel roof seems like a bad idea. easy place to bang equipment on when loading/unloading things up top. doesnt looks cheap to replace either
Trailhunter for me! but I'll wait a couple years before pulling the trigger, I have a '13, then in 2014 they changed the front. seems wise to wait for a year or few for updates to the original
Looks awesome and I figured they change the power train to the 4 cylinder like the taco. This would be a step up on fuel economy and hopefully ride quality, may temp me to go for it
Ryan, I seriously have to give you and the crew major props for the quality of your videos. I just watched TFL’s videos, and while they’re my go to for a lot of things they missed the mark with the quality and detail of their released video. Looking forward to your future updates and tests!
The color on the trailhunter is phenominal. I'd LOVE to see that color on a GR86.
I really dont like the grey/green that is inside the trailhunter. It looks like a weird grey mint or something, and I guess they dont have color options bc they keep showing this ONE combo
Somebody wrapped a similar color on a supra and it looks amazing.
If they did that I would definitely choose the GR86 over the BRZ
I really wish it was not exclusive to the trailhunter. I have no reason to go that high in trim.

Solely appearance wise the Trailhunter looks awesome...really dig the everest color. It looks like they took a combination of the shape of 3rd gens and 4th gens to come up with the shape and contours of the 6th gen.
FINALLY!!!
Looking forward to the 2026 4Runner SR5🎉
Ryan, could you produce another video to compare the 4Runner TRD Pro and Trail Hunter in more detail? Thanks.
Where's it made? Does it still have the hump when seats are down?
I have a highly modified subaru forester wilderness, but I'm thinking a few years down the road, I'll be going for that trailhunter when it's time to get a new vehicle!
Can you get the Trailhunter in colors other than the green one?
It's still sad to see the V6 die
Finally, it looks amazing!
glass on the rear panel roof seems like a bad idea. easy place to bang equipment on when loading/unloading things up top. doesnt looks cheap to replace either
The colours are…super awesome!!
Hmmmm. Do I trade in my 2017 Hemi Durango for this?? Need the tow capacity and third row seating. I like her look!
Trailhunter for me! but I'll wait a couple years before pulling the trigger, I have a '13, then in 2014 they changed the front. seems wise to wait for a year or few for updates to the original
Trail hunter gives me halo warthog vibes 😎🤤. Looks great
Looks awesome and I figured they change the power train to the 4 cylinder like the taco. This would be a step up on fuel economy and hopefully ride quality, may temp me to go for it
The new 4Runner looks great! Toyota is finally paying attention to exterior design. I'm glad they are updating their model lineup
Finally modernized the 5th gen, hopefully mpg is significantly improved in this new configuration to be worth the upgrade.
