- 2025 Toyota 4Runner - several ways you might not like this new 2025 4Runner - you might even hate it. But many reasons to love it too.
How do you feel about 4Runner 2025 so far?
The objective of AutoJeff Reviews is to give you as much information as possible about these incredible vehicles. I try to put my sometimes quirky and funny spin on things with my pop culture references.
I refuse to do a boring car review haha. I hope you like the channel and decide to Subscribe.
What things do you like or dislike about all-new 6th Gen 2025 Toyota 4Runner? Thanks for watching and subscribing. Jeff
Definitely like the styling much much much better than previous. Still undecided on the new drive-train but once they work the bugs out I expect it will be better than the previous generation old-school drive-train, especially where low end torque and efficiency are concerned...
More power and MPG is good, but remember people who buy off-road vehicles don't buy them for power and MPG. They buy them for a reliable platform to build upon, and to not leave you stranded some where in the middle of no where. Until Toyota can prove these are reliable trucks for this new generation, no one cares about power and MPG.
The # 1 killer is for sure is the pricing around 60k plus😂😂😂
Funny how these guys try to sell you on what they want to. He said The 4Runner 6 cylinder is sluggish, not sluggish to me when I jump on my 2024 nautical blue runner she gets up😂
The new pricing will kill your business.
Up to them. Add “market adjustments” and hopefully they sit.
Doubtful - higher prices have not been killing business in the industry as a whole. People are paying the higher prices. Sucks but that is a fact.
Still driving a 4th Gen and see no reason to upgrade. Best vehicle I’ve ever owned
looks too much like tacoma. it needs its own identity. 5th gen will still be king
Well, its origins are from Tacoma. 1st gen was just a Tacoma with an enclosed/removable top.
No thanks Toyota with the new JUNK V-6 turbos engine in the Tundra and probably Junk 4 cylinder turbo in the Tacoma and 4 Runner. Toyota is over pricing their vehicles way too far and loosing what made them reliability. I think the new 4 Runner body looks like somebody side swiped both side of the body. I think Toyota is going to lose a lot of the loyal customers with the path they are taking!
now we finally know, the 4 in 4Runner stands for 4 cylinders
The Hilux and 4Runner had 4 bangers in the past.
@@ag4engyup! Back in the mid to early 80’s, they all had 4 bangers. The 22r and 22re were bulletproof!
I want the 6Runner then!
Get a 2024 before it’s too late!
I did, its a TRD Pro, my dream truck
Done
TRD ORP Underground last week…..last call
I did 2023 trd off-road premium
Yup glad I got a 2023 TRD off road
Just picked up a 2024 Limited. It should have a Lexus Badge on it. Best car I have ever driven. It is slow as hell and drinks gas like mad, but I absolutely
Love it.
4 cylinder turbo... NO!
for $60,000+. lol. people are morons
I get from A to point B fast enough with my beautiful 2024 forerunner and it toes my trailer really well
Glad I bought a 2023 4Runner.
Solid engineering and all the issues worked out over several years.
Simple engine, simple transmission, solid body, and enough tech for me (I hate new interiors, I don't want to drive a cellphone).
Got to play with the new Landcruser same size interior. Bought the 2024 4Runner. More old school. 14 year old new car.
more power less reliability
No reliability!!
The 2.4t should be pretty reliable if it’s anything like the old 2.0t in the Lexus NX from several years ago.
You have absolutely zero to base that knee-jerk statement on.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q
3.4 was in lexus ls for years, but no.
Glad I bought 2023. No Turbo for me.
More bullet proof 😂. What a Toyota shill…
New colors are good. 4cyl engine - NO THNAKS, not for $65+k These engine are made in the same factory as the Tundra engine that are blowing up. Toyota is falling from grace. I don’t trust the engine. In three years we could be in a Tundra situation.
Not likely with 4Runner considering the Tacoma and Land Cruiser are using the same engine now. You better believe they are checking the 4 cylinder production now to make sure they stop any similar issues to the 6 cylinder from happening.
4 cylinder Turbo engine. Goodbye.
I believe it will have issues just like the new tundras engines. I will keep my 22 orp 4runner in army green till the wheels fall off
A small 4 cylinder turbo engine will never be as durable and long lasting than a larger naturally aspirated engine. It is physically not possible.
Not true at all. Modern turbo gas engines are built almost like a diesel. Turbo engines run less compression. They are only under more pressure when over 5 psi of boost which is probably only 1 percent of the time.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q I have never seen a higher mileage turbo gasoline engine that was in good shape. Too much heat, modern vehicles are heavy, very oil change interval sensitive and you have to step on the gas if you want to get that little engine going when the light turns green, which puts a lot of stress on these engines in heavy vehicle. They are not built like a Diesel engine.
@@702Wolfi I’ve seen plenty of high mileage turbo engines with zero issues. No reason to worry. They are built more robustly than a NA engine.
@@user-tb7rn1il3q Tell that to the tundra owners...
@@Doomzdayxx Very few actually have an issue. That engine is not new. It’s a manufacturing issue.
The new 4Runner is so over engineer and what we learned from over engineering from BMW & Mercedes it crashed and burns. The electronic 4wd is buggy it sometimes won't even engage 4wd. Drive shaft breaking. Engine is over stressed when towing, that engine gets hot AF just towing 3,000 lb that's absolutely pathetic. The V6 can tow 6000 lb without getting hot AF.
The engine blocks are too small to handle the turbos..this is why the engines are falling apart…Toyota …should have tried to update the current engine to keep reliable….buy 2024…don’t buy 2025
Will that new 4 cylinder be reliable? or will it be like the new Tundra V6.
Exactly it’s gonna be less reliable maybe recall in the future just like the tundra
@@josefermalino461 Yes and do we really want batteries in our 4runner? I don't drive in the city. Has Toyota forgot why people buy Toyota over other car makers?
Sadly tacoma is going down because of pricing and the no engine selection..so the 4runner gonna follow that path
New 2024 5th Gen owner here. The general concern I have about the 2025 6th Gen is engine longevity. Is the new 6th Gen engine going to go the distance that the 5th Gen has a proven track record for? Is this new engine going to last 300k, 500k plus miles without having significant maintenance issues as long as you keep the oil changed and preventive maintenance up to date on it? The answer is to be determined by what 6th gen buyers experience. For the exorbitant price tag the 6th Gen is going to have, is the juice really going to be worth the squeeze? I don’t want to be the guinea pig to find out so I’m going to let someone else buy it first and see what they experience.
I just bought my 2024 SR5 premium in the ice cap color. I wanted an old school bullet proof truck.
I hope the new Truck is as reliable as the 5th gen.
Wait for the recalls.
Have owned a 4runner (still do) from the last 3 generations. That streak is going to end unfortunately. That big mess of hoses and wires they call an engine is a no-go.
Still driving my 3rd gen and ordered 5th gen before the V6 is gone
if theyre gone, will you still be able to buy those spare parts? will toyota still make spare parts for gen5 and below?..... what if toyota will stop at all, so people will buy the 6 gen?
Here is a reason, the engine will go the way of the Tundra… Toyota believes it’s the fancy gadgets that make people want to buy a Toyota, NO… it was Toyota’s reliability that sold them not some gadgets
The V6 wasn’t the problem it was the 5 speed transmission that makes it feel slower than what it is. I have a 23 and doesn’t feel sluggish going up a mountain at all.
Sorry I sold my 4runner v8.
Jeff, do you need to remind your subscribers to watch the ads so you can get paid?
That’s super nice of you to say that Dan.
Yes that is how creators get paid thru TH-cam - when people watch the ads. But I try to not mention that too much haha :)
Oops, I just skipped it 😅
I have a TH-cam premium though so he still got paid 👍
@@AutoJeffReviews My pleasure Jeff. That is the least I can do for you since you made two reviews of the 2024 RAV4 Hybrid XSE. I especially LOVE the night review. I learned a lot!
The Limited doesn't have that low approach bumper anymore. Full time 4WD with center and rear lockers with the hybrid will be a budget LC250. I'm in.
I really like the limited
Looks and colors is so not the real topic. Price and known reliability loss. Every mechanic will tell you a turbo charged engine will not last as long as a naturally aspirated engine. Unless Toyota has some secret sauce I hope they tell us but everyone buying these vehicles will smell the bs a mile away.
We already have other trucks that aren’t starting out their revamp well. Salesmen will have their hands full in afraid.
I think there’s too much focus on form rather than function. Toyota has seriously underestimated the psychology involved here.
5th gen 4runner is unique the 6th gen 4runner is just a Tacoma 💀
I won’t bring up the engine, but my biggest concern is how big is that back seat legroom compared with the fifth generation? Looks smaller on camera.
Click bait. Good ploy Jeff! I should have known that you would never have anything negative to say about Toyota. Anyway, it will be at least 2 years before I even consider that 4cyl turbo hot mess to be.
lol I knew it was catchy! But these are also eight comments that I pulled from viewers. So these are definitely things. People might hate about it.
Jeff this is confusing. Can’t decide 5th gen ,6th gen. Or even Land Cruiser. Comfortable ride which is best?
I’d choose Land Cruiser over 5th gen.but I haven’t driven the 6th gen yet :)
Easy: if you want the latest tech and gadgets and lots of recalls, rattling plastic (see new tundra and Tacoma) , nanny lights/whistles and have the newest ride then get the 6th Gen or Land Cruiser. If you want older tech and never worry about your vehicle having problems with bulletproof reliability get the 5th gen. What do you value? The constant nanny lights and whistles on the new Tacoma will place you in an insane asylum.
is the cargo the same with out the hybrid? or is it a little biger?
The hybrid battery pack is in the cargo area. Yes, a little higher means less cargo space.
What is the plastic trim under the front end for?
These new toyotas are not like the previous well built ones. They are cheap and made for profits. Do your research folks, they have tons of issues, engine, transmissions, panel gaps, interior rattles, etc..
I’m very curious if the Trailhunter and TRD Pro will have the options available that are on the platinum. Such as heads up display…
Just a bunch of junk.
I just bought a 2024 4Runner SR5 premium. I love it! I’m so happy I got this generation! ❤
how much did it cost?
What engine does that have the Highlander engine or the tundra engine? Do you know?
So many people forget that the early 4.0L V6 is known for failing head gaskets. The 2.4L may have first year issues to work out, but it's very possible it'll be a worthy successor to the 4.0L.
Sure the Tundras are having issues with the 3.5L twin turbo, but it could also be Toyotas next bullet proof engine. All the issues it's had so far was due to manufacturing issues, not design flaws.
He’s a politician which means he’s a perfect car salesperson. All semantic nonsense
I think they should have a yellow or purple color for the 4Runner
Love it!
Driving new 2024 Tacoma for 7 weeks now and absolutely love it. Old was nice for what it was, but new one has better handling, acceleration and driving dynamics. Can't wait for new 4Runner!
Jeff you aren’t considering the most important aspect of an engine… RELIABILITY. 4 cylinder turbo WILL BE junk in 100k miles. Go talk to a seasoned mechanic and get schooled.
The world's 4runner guru....God bless you sir. You explain everything so well, I love that blue color. It's beautiful 😍
Thanks! It’s so nice in person too
Have you had a chance to drive it
Thanks to you I totally want to upgrade my 4runner. The heritage blue is gorgeous 😍
Will the old 5th gen V6 tank engine fit in this?
Does it have power lift gate?
New 4Runner looks cool. But i think the previous generation looks timeless.
The forth gen 4 runner with the v 8 motor was the best 4x4 in the world just as good as a landcruser Toyota needs to bring that technology back a v8
Buy a GX460, it’s the same thing but better.
That was the most boring 4Runner ever made.
@@alexsmba I had a weird and ugly front.
1-The only thing the 5th gen needed was a transmission upgrade and I bet it would drive as good if not better than the unreliable 4cyl turbo.
2- Prices will be crazy, pay more for less compared to 5th gen.
3- Design looks like crap with the multi gen salad and handlebar Mustache.
4 - Nothing unique beside shell of the 4runner. Everything is passed over from the Tacoma.
5 - Get the 5th Gen 4Runner while you can as its the last true Toyota.
I would buy one if they upgrade the transmission yo atleast 8 speed
I know 2025 can "fly". But why? Why to fly? Why do I need to create so much pressure in the smaller size engine I am sure very well designed? Driving mid to large SUV by definition does not mean to fly. What am I missing? I don't disregard new technology and I'm sure 2025 4R is going to be a very well designed generation, but only time will tell. And lets not forget Toyota made new engines just because tremendous government pressure to meet imaginary "green" emission targets. So if those new Tundra/Sequoia/Tacoma/4R engines will stand a time trial - I will be the first one to applaud and recognize the Toyota Engineering efforts and achievement given the scarcity circumstances. But for now, I'll stick to my Toyota 5.7LV8. Till it happens... Great review Jeff, as always. With love from Vancouver, British Columbia,.
Because people are morons. They want faster SUVs so they can race to the red light faster. Better power even though they don't tow with them. MORE technology, yet they are shocked when the dash lights up like Christmas tree. Giant, goofball "infotainment centers" even though we are supposed to be trying to mitigate distracted driving. The masses are just dumb and Toyota is following the market trends. It's the movie 'Idiocracy' but in real life.
Where will it be built???? Please don't say here in the states or Mexico. Keep it in Japan!! They are the best Builders and care about there workmanship
Will be made in Japan!
Jeff, I am sure the new 4Runner will sell as well as the last one. My chief concern about the 4Runner is the somewhat cramped 2nd row. For a vehicle this huge, the second row lacks head and leg room. The other concern relates to the disappearance of the famous 40/20/40 rear seat. Why would they ever drop such a useful feature? 🤔
Why would the second row be somewhat cramped. There’s plenty of room in the Land Cruiser and aren’t they pretty much the same package/size?
I don’t mind the 2nd row space in new 4Runner. Will be curious what you think if you test it for yourself Hog!
Have an awesome weekend
@@joeimbesi5361 The LC is around 6 inches taller
@@AutoJeffReviews I will just drop by one day.........
Will 93 Octane Gas ⛽️ going to be required to run those 2.5 Engines?
Absolutely not. The 4Runner won't require premium fuel.
No. Use regular unleaded
I'll give you ONE I'll never buy a 4RUNNER or the Tacoma and Tundra.
I will not let Toyota rip me off.
I bought a 2024 Frontier Pro-X for 8000 dollars cheaper than the 52,000 dollar TRD off road. It's a V6!!!
But it’s a Nissan.

So...
Go read about the recalls on the Tundras and the Lexus.
Those Frontiers were the pickups with the folding in half failing frame rails.@@BC-te9ow
I am don't have a need for a 4Runner, but I do like them and I hope to see a Trailhunter in green on the road soon!!
Would it still be assembled in Japan friend?
Yes still in Japan
@@AutoJeffReviews thanks for responding ☺️☺️☺️
It’s not the 2.4, it’s the turbo. The issue is that people don’t take care of their vehicles. I owned an oil change business, and it was shocking how poorly vehicles are maintained. Turbos need to be taken care of. They will fail likely due to lack of care, and people will cry when they get the bill to replace one.
How do you properly care for a turbo?
Styling is great... power train is quite lackluster. I think a V6 hybrid would've hit a jackpot for Toyota
Everyone talks about more power but no one has mentioned if there is a weight difference. I'd be curious to know.
Currently driving a 22 ORP. I really like that new Trailhunter package and even like the concept of an electric motor for added torque but the turbo four cylinder is a huge turn off. If I had to buy another one today it would be another 5th gen.
Buying the first year of a new model is something to be avoided as well.
You talk about trying the next generation 4runner because of the power. The numbers don't lie. Yes, the new generation has more power. The problem that you are not taking into account is that people doubt the reliability of a small displacement engine that is turbo charged. Smaller displacement and high stress are a disaster waiting to happen. Toyota is known for reliability, and Toyota is losing that reputation. Does the model look great, absolutely, but are people willing to sacrifice reliability for looks?? I don't think so. Only time and numbers will tell.
I love the styling of the new one. I'm just not convinced of the long-term reliability and durability of these turbo engines. The V6 in the Tundra has been a disaster. I wish they kept the option of having the old V6 instead of the turbo 4 cylinder.
It would have been cool to bring back every trd pro color ever made for this first year’s release
Without a weight being disclosed.. The horsepower increase won't be relevant. It's all about power to weight ratio. If it's not even a mile per hour or quarter second faster in a quarter mile or not, even a half a second faster 0 to 60 then then it is absolutely not worth buying, especially losing the bulletproof V6.
Love the styling of the 6th Gen especially that TrailHunter edition! The biggest ding for me is the lack of rear air controls. Wish they would switch to overhead air like the Land Cruiser. Those two small vents coming off the back of the console leave the second row stuffy and if you carry your dog with you in the cargo area it is miserable for them with no air vents.
I still am very concerned about price. If the TRD Pro and TrailHunter are anywhere near the price of the TRD Pro Tacoma I think you’ll see a lot of people opt for the similarly priced Land Cruiser with the taller body and offroad capability.
The Trd pro version of the 2025 4 Runner will be just short of $70,000.
i-FORCE MAX baby!
Whats with all the earth tone colors? blue sky, green grass, mud bath....C'mon Toyota.
Like you said Jeff...bring back the exciting colors that the FJ cruisers had, reds, voodoo blue, etc. etc.
The power and torque difference are minuscule. People who won’t buy the 4Runner because of power are, not going to buy one now.
With a certain 20% MSRP increase, this will be a sales flop.
Most Toyotas will have the same engine- Sienna, 4Runner, Tacoma, Highlander, Land Cruiser, RAV4.
Too many trim levels, only 3 are needed- SR5, TRD off-road and Limited.
Toyota has disappointed us again by putting a 4 cylinder turbo in the new 4Runner. It looks good with the new design, but I am disappointed in the new engne. Will it be reliable? I doubt it.
Looks great
Im not worried about the engine, i trust toyota knows what its doing. I will be trading my 2015 sr5 for a 2026 sr5
Pricing is always a factor. My budget is in the $30’s, but apparently my taste is now in the $50’s
Great 👍 video
Hey Jeff, I dunno if you’ve done it yet but can you make a “8 reasons you’ll hate a 2024 Lexus GX” I feel like I’m too infatuated with it. I plan on hopefully purchasing one later in the year when they aren’t so hot
How funny you should ask th-cam.com/video/9Ix_s_8NgGw/w-d-xo.htmlsi=G9dnN4yoGCXo4CCH
I made one a couple months ago on GX :)
I want a GX very bad!
Thank you so much! I just finished watching and honestly, I could live with all those reasons, except one. I am nitpicking a bit with their options. It’s hard deciding between the trim levels because I want certain things and they’re not available for certain trims. It’s very frustrating. Beautiful Truck though
The only need 5 trims. Sr5. Sport premium. TRD PRO. Trailhunter. Platinum.
They don’t need five, and those aren’t the trims they should keep. They need SR5 TRD off-road and limited.
The SR5 would come loaded.
The Trd off-road would be what the pro is currently.
The limited would be loaded, but have real leather, 20” wheels and a couple other “Limited“ appointments.
The only option would be a sunroof. No option groups or other nonsense.
@@timalan7406 Not! I bought the SR5 because it was the base model and cheap.
I want the cheapest 4x4 toyota makes, always buy base models of everything.
Is Toyota cleaning all the engine debris out of the new 4runner engines or is left in there like in the Tundras ?
Toyota built it's reputation and customer loyalty on reliable vehicles at a fair price. Seems like they're doing their best to reverse that trend.
Think about that mess of an engine bay. Or a magnussen supercharger on your v6. Still super reliable, still easy to work on. Overall cost will be the same and you'll have more power
Nice reporting ,Jeff.
You not add 10k markups sir??????
How about you address all the quality issues Toyota has had in the last few years?
TRDJEFF....oops you sound like TRDJON. Toyota had a long time to address all the things people wanted in the the 6th gen. Unfortunately they didn't listen. You are a fanboy and get the perks for supporting the new 4runner. Not an honest evaluation of the product. You are biased, and not subjective...and you are annoying...pass!
Only expert will understand an 4runner 5th gen 😊
Overpriced for what it is and not reliable
Jazzy Jeff in the house
I have a 2008 v8 full time 4WD. The 6th gen looks nice but I’m good with mine
The downside of 2008 were there looks.
We have a 4 cyl turbo w/hybrid Max power train on our Grand Highlander. It's way more power than you'll ever need.
How do you like that vehicle? We are considering one for 2025
It looks great!!
Less reliability for a higher price. The new tacoma has been having a lot of problems. Also, Toyota has a new recall every other week it feels like. And the price is absolutely absurd. Dealerships should only be able to sell used cars
Its looks nice 😊😊
I am in the market for a new SVU. 4Runner was on the top of my list, but 4 cylinder turbo? No thanks! I go for my second choice which is a 2025 Honda Pilot.
Back seat is too small, I would have bought one if the back seat was bigger
$70K MSRP for sure 💀
I am already in love 😍 with it
Delighted. ❤❤❤❤🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉🎉
4cyl is still ok a lot of new cars are going with 3cyl now
