Fantastic review of the marathon! Agree with you on the cup front of the marathon they were a nightmare to try and drink from!

There must be a better solution! The cartons they handed out at the finish line would have worked well, but I guess the cost may have been prohibitve, and most runners probably won't drink the full carton. Thanks for watching and the kind words!

I believe the cups are to reduce plastic and are also for safety as plastic bottles are a trip hazard. Not easy to use though as you say.

@@James-Henderson Good point but the cups seemed to be far more evenly distributed across the road after the aid station as opposed to bottles which tend to be thrown to the side. Maybe small cartons are the way to go…

@@TheVeganRunner when I did Bideford 1/2 a runner in front of me dropped her bottle in the middle of the path. I only just missed it. I’m not not sure what the solution is. I think in ultras you have to take your own cup. But they are an all day picnic.

@@James-Henderson Ah that’s unfortunate, aid stations in general are just a bit of a free for all in mass races. Often see a bit of a jostle and every now and then a few grumpy words exchanged. Looking forward to the all day picnic 😋

I agree about the foil blankets. Are they really needed?

💯 Keep them with the St.Johns ambulance crew at the finish for those who really need them. The bag drop was immediately past the start line, keeping warm wasn’t too much of an issue.

Which did you prefer, Brighton or Manchester? I am planning to do one of them for my first marathon. I think the scenery is nicer looking in Brighton but I am worried about the hills and potential for wind

I’d go for Manchester Jaimee - crowd support is brilliant, organisation was spot on and the course is (almost) pancake flat. 👍 Good luck!
