“Enjoy, when you are running, please enjoy.” It seems like Kipchoge is always relaxed and smiling when he runs. It’s funny to me that a lot of people view running as a kind of masochistic torture but for me, it’s the best part of my day. It’s so important to take pleasure in it.
Yes he looks so smooth and relaxed. In one of the interviews I heard him talk about smiling being a coping mechanism for dealing with tough spots too, that it can help make him feel better, which I have experienced as well on race day. Great point, running is such a joy and important to see it that way. Cheers Jonathan!
Absolutely!! Each running day when I awaken, I smile since I'm excited to go for my run. Agreed- it absolutely isthe best part of my day. And as long as you keep it something that you look forward to, you can't help but get in better shape and gradually improve. Like EK said, run, enjoy, and just finish your run. Dedicate yourself to that, and make it consistent and regular, and the rest takes care of itself.
I guard my daily run time viciously. I get my son or my job always trying to steal that time and I get nasty about it. That’s the only part of the whole day I’m truly at peace. Well. That and the 30min everyday I spend practicing piano. Just let me have my freaking run/piano time so I can stay sane!!! 😂 I literally almost lost my job over it because my boss was wanting me to join these meetings in the morning when I typically run. I flat out said. No. I was ready to walk out the door over it! After some argument he finally backed down.
Great interview! My biggest takeaway was the following quote, “In running and in life, it’s important to grow slowly, to be patient, but above all, be consistent in training.”

I just love this man. Dear mr. Kipchoge, you don’t just inspire the youth, you inspire this middle aged, very average runner. Especially coming back after a long injury, your advice to be consistent and patient in training, not just to improve but to stay injury free, is so relevant and practical. Thanks for being so humble and be able to speak to us mere mortals who won’t be breaking any records but who just want to run and enjoy it.
"In running and in life. It's important to GROW SLOWLY, to be PATIENT but above all, BE CONSISTENT in training" So true! Patience with your body is very important so you don't get an overuse injury or worse and can therefore be consistent in training and see the improvement we all want to see!
Here is my takeaway, I have always found that a focus on enjoyment was the best way for me to improve in my running. When i have pushed too hard or put pressure on myself i have found it can turn the whole process into a real slog.So it's really great to hear the advice from Kipchoge on "just enjoying your running¨ which is something i have found to be true myself.Great interview and keep up the great work Floris.
The quote I run by, as 59 year-old runner who just runs 7 miles, every other day, is: "Run hard, run long, but NEVER outrun your of running." I constantly ask myself during my runs, "Are you having fun?" If the answer is "no", I back off until I'm challenged, yet still enjoying the run. It's never failed me! Don't outrun your joy of running, no matter what.
Enjoy when you are running and Marathon is life. I don't usually get inspired by other people, but sometimes you see a few that are full of positive energy and they literally "infect" you with that positivity and wisdom.
Eliud Inspired me to run, and as he said I always try to listen to my body and take notes for my training to improve it. And of course my favourite quote of him is No Human Is Limited 👑
Start training and finish. Enjoy the run. Be consistent in training. Every one has a call. Marathon is life. I learn a lot from his inspiration and know it time to set the right mindset.
"Start your training and finished it". This will go a long way and deep to motivate me to achieve my last running goal - achieve a sub-3hr Marathon before turning 50!

Thank you so much for the interview! i just came back from my run and was somehow frustrated because my heartrate was not as low as I‘d like to have it. So hearing Eliud saying ‚You will improve‘ definetly motivates me to keep going! Lost 22kg in 3 months so also doing something right :)
His humility is incredibly refreshing. I love Maffetone running for much of what Eliud advocates. It is so enjoyable. So revitalizing and rewarding to motor forward with an efficient body and gratuitous mind. Thanks for the interview
He literally runs double my slightly pushing running speed but over 26 miles, I can maintain my pace for 5km, non runner's do not understand how good this man is.
So inspiring, that was a great interview. My favourite idea was that even when we fail a goal, if we have tried to do something we have not done before (e.g. first marathon, first sub 4 or sub 3), it is a success because we dared to try.
Great interview Floris. My main takeaway, apart from consistency, is to enjoy every run. I think we often forget that when we get too caught up in times, PBs and Strava. At the end of the day, we run because we enjoy it!
""Hitting the ideal training at the ideal times. Making sure that I finish the training when I still have a lot of energy to smile." This is the good one. I must say, that this was a pretty good insightful video with some extra tips and tricks at the end of it. Thanks Floris!
Great interview. But in the movie sub titles I noticed an error in translation at 12:49. Surprised the editors would miss that. Eliud said “Everybody should believe that’s what makes us grow and push and push again. “ The subtitle said “claw” instead of grow.
Great interview! I loved him breaking down the 'breaking 2' attempt in 2017 and framing it as a success in that it helped inform his future successful attempt. What they learned from the 2017 attempt led to him and his team accomplishing the feat. 'Breaking 2' wasn't a failure, it was a teaching moment.
Great interview, the key takeaway for me was that no single type of run will give you everything, it's the combination of all the weekly runs and training sessions that are critical in making you a stronger runner.
Thank you! That was a great takeaway. The only thing to be careful about here is that I asked this specifically in the context of how he optimized his performance for his Sub 2 Hour Marathon running. So he already had a massive base and from there was able to add a lot of medium to high intensity running, long runs, fartleks, intervals, and also easy running. For some non-elite runners too many of these session can definitely lead to injury, so good to find that balance.
Finish the training when you still have a lot of energy to smile so you can recover well and come back the next day. Everybody should believe in their own capability- that is going to be my new new mantra. Thank you Floris for inspirational interview!!
Distance running could not have a better ambassador than Eliud Kipchoge, he is such an incredible human being. Thank you for conducting and posting this interview, it was fantastic, you are a great interviewer, and you couldn't have asked for a better guest!
Key takeaway “ When you’re running enjoy and be consistent in training” simple really but if you’re not enjoying running and not consistent you are not going to improve. Great advise from the GOAT 🐐
Eliud is the definition of dedication and focus. Us Non-Elite runners often want to know the 'secret' to becoming better at running, but most us always seem to forget that consistency and discipline are the foundation to improving in life and in running as well. Thank you for this interview, Floris, every word he speaks is worth gold.
Brings tears to my eyes watching a passionate running beast in Floris interview the greatest to ever do it! My cheeks hurt from smiling the whole interview ❤
Fav quote or rather moment is your parting question and Kipchoge’s passionate expressive response that his camera shakes, Dedication, consistency, start and finish, is something that will stay with me. Great job Floris! Keep inspiring..
Nice work, Floris! Great job as always. One of my key takeaways was how Eliud felt he had to fail in his first attempt to breaking two in order to succeed. Puts into perspective any training session/race that may not meet the goals we set for ourselves beforehand. Also stresses the importance of mental fortitude in marathon running and not just physical ability.
Absolute gold here I’ll be re-watching this to stay focus on what’s most important: dedication, consistency, accepting failure, and making sure to enjoy every step of the way.
Running day in and day out one can forget to enjoy it. It can be all about watching your watch and missing the scenery around you. I like that Kipchoge reminded us to enjoy our running and just finish your runs each day.
Amazing interview. I had to watch it twice because the first time I was just a bit starstruck by the fact that you were interviewing Kipchoge. What a ride, kudos Floris for taking Extramilest this far!
I love his down to earth and humble personality. My take on the interview. Just as Steve Prefontaine once said, running is a work of art, it's not about winning the race but it's to test the limits of the human heart 💙. I follow you on Strava Floris and I thank you for helping and touching so many people through social media outlets. I love and learn a lot from your interviews all the way down to the Dr. Maffetone interviews. Thanks again Floris. This is "The Secretariat". Last thing I take away from Eliud here is he considers all runners one big family. Much love to all my family runners.!
Thank you for this interview - I watched the film yesterday and it inspired my long run this morning - I did 16km / 10 miles and because I get knee pain it always makes me frustrated. I learned from the GOAT Kipchoge that in order to be better I need to train slow and race fast, that noting down in a diary post run is important because it’s not just about clicking the mileage it’s about taking notes about how you feel to better your next run. Thank you once again for this great interview x
🙏 Such an inspiring movie, glad you already got a chance to watch it. Also, great takeaways that you already applied in your own running this morning, well done Nylah!
Awesome Interview! My favorite quote is "In running and in life. It's important to GROW SLOWLY, to be PATIENT but above all, BE CONSISTENT in training"
Keys takeaways. the interview is plenty of them. Personally, I find a great lesson in keep a diary of how the body feels and consistency as a key for improving. Actually, I´m working on it with the MAF method, sick and tired of a lot of injuries and breaks in my training. I just want to enjoy the running. Congrats for the interview Floris! (and for the subtitles 👍)
I love it when he said Everyone has a Call, and you need dedication, consistency and a coach/ eco system to help you. All great points ! Thanks for sharing Floris!
Believing you can do it and dedication But also to enjoy your running Im 55 and didnt start running any distance training and events until my late 30's early 40's Im still as slow as a herd of turtles but ive improved considerably since my early days of running This year alone ive set many pb's from 1k up to a 50k ultra the only event distance missing is my fastest 1/2 marathon Im getting quicker and my goal is to break 1:40 Eliud never fails to inspire me to improve and i still have a great love of running Thanks again for posting this interview 👍🙂🏃♂️
Great interview. Have followed Kipchoge for quite some time and had a watch party at my home in the middle of the night when he broke two hours. "And above all being consistent" and "Believing that I will do it" are my favorite quotes and will inspire me for the final portion of training for my first Boston Marathon in October and first ultramarathon in November!!
Sounds like a fun watch party P Binelli! Great quotes right there. Enjoy your first Boston marathon. Here is my first Boston experience, thought you might find this helpful for your race day prep: extramilest.com/blog/boston-marathon-preparation-and-race-report/
Improvement goes hand in hand with dedication. Such a strong quote from him. And what he is saying you have to be all in. Great interview Floris and keep up the great work.
The human family. This is my new mantra. It’s not a race, where you’re trying to win against everyone else. It’s a family where we support each other, in order to achieve even greater things. I don’t know who first said this, but Kipchoge lives: “If you want to run fast, run alone. If you want to run far, run together.” This was a wonderful interview, Floris. Thank you for all the amazing content. You’ve been really important in my growth as a runner.
Great interview! I think my biggest takeaway is that running experience builds on itself, whether Kipchoge talks about taking the lessons from Monza to Vienna or being consistent in training and having all types of runs leading to his success. It all contributes to improvement as a runner. Glad I discovered this interview. Really inspiring!
For me as a beginner and a person who start and try running, what i get from this interview is write down a data from our body everyday. That's actually help me to improve and make a preparation for the next run. This things maybe the useful one for me as a beginner, so i can note it, what i can improve, prevent from any injuries and also improve my running technique in future. I'm sorry for my bad english, but this really what i get to apply it in the next exercise. Realizing i just run and run, without knowing my time, pace, even a heart rate. Hope this video keep inspiring people around the world that "No Human is Limited" cheers from Indonesia. And also thank you for Floris to bring this interview video on youtube.
Hi Pitu, your English is fine and I totally understand what you mean! Writing in a diary or journal like Eliud mentioned is such a helpful tool to better realize what's going on with our training, from beginner to advanced. Well said! Greetings right back at you from Los Angeles! 🙏
What I like about this person is that he always talks about "we" not "I" like most athletes.. he speaks of team work and success not individual achievements
The best lesson: Consistency is key! There are no shortcuts in running and even life, whether you’re a pro or a weekend warrior - you have to be consistent. I think these days people are looking for the shortcuts, quick fixes or magic formulas- but there are none. Consistency is the only currency that counts! Eliud reinforced that thinking
I love this man and what he stands for. I also absolutely loved that it was the first time his wife and children had seen him run and were there at the finish line of his successful under 2hrs marathon.....Beautiful!!!
The insight into how Eliud and his team handled the changes between to two sub-2hr events was my favorite takeaway and something I hadn’t heard before. Thanks for sharing Floris!
Same here, some of that was new to me as well. 2.5 years of going back to the drawing board and re-strategizing to shave off 26 seconds (46 seconds actually). Talk about dedication! 🙏
Loved this interview Floris! Main takeaways: be consistent, dedicated, track and review training, and every aspect of the training cycle is important. Great job Floris! So happy that you were able to interview the greatest marathoner of all time! 🤗
Glad you enjoyed it Tina and great takeaways. That was surely a special week meeting him twice. Now my kids are super into Kipchoge too and also want to run a marathon :D Have a great rest of your weekend!
Great interview, I know you were time constrained and Kipchoge is a current athlete so his camp would not want to divulge too much, but he did give great advice. My number one takeaway was to work on your plan, do the training and week after week you will improve.
Great interview! Takeaways: Dedication to your training, commitment to the day by day, surrounding yourself with the right people and enjoying the run!
To me the key takeaway message is to be consistent day after day, month after month and year after year. Running is a lifestyle. Thank you for sharing this interview Floris.
HAHAHAHA 30 SECONDS IN AND IM LAUGHING. He's so passionate about his training and running you can see in the short intro his whole setup is shaking as he's talking about running and you can see the excitement in his body language.
Very nice interview and conversation with the great Kipchoge. Always humble and inspiring, he simply urges runners of all levels to work hard and be consistent in running and in life. Not a wiser bit of advice has ever been given. I can't help but wonder how much better the World would be for everyone if all leaders focused on the essentials and stayed humble.
His message to consistently put in the training and enjoy! Very powerful. Additionally, inspired by the 2017 sub-2 hour attempt and how to learn from failure.
Love this interview and thank you for asking the legend questions about running tips for average runners like me and many others.. 🙂🙂🙂 I was eagerly waiting for someone to ask Eliud running tips related questions... Nice.. 🥰🥰🥰
Same here to be honest Dipesh. I had read and watched a lot about his running accomplishments over the years, his sub 2 attempts, gold medals, etc, but not much about his thoughts on ways to improve as an average runner. Glad he was so willing to share and open up. Glad you enjoyed it!
@@FlorisGierman Exactly... Now I'm gonna apply his advice into my running... And ya, looking at Eliud explaining his running advice makes me feel like he liked your question. He dreams of making this world a running world.. Hope to get more advice of such kind from the legend in the future that'll help guide people like me into improving our running and thus to make running an important part of our life... 😊😊😊
So interesting to hear how he keeps up his training year round. I had always been taught periodization meaning taking periods of much reduced training. I will research this further. And always good to not be afraid of reaching and "failing" and learning. If you are not making "mistakes" you are not growing.
I admire his calmness and the contentment he radiates. He is not at all aloof or arrogant and repeatedly emphasizes the importance of teamwork. A real star without airs and graces!
He talked about systems which filled me with vigour because I keep telling my closer runner friends that systems and processes are very important for substantial progress. I could now show my friends this video and have my savage moments 😂😂
i really like that he talks about his team and their conjoined effort. its gives me very realistic ideas for my progress, bc i don't have access to that, and i appreciate his humility.
Marathon is life. That's a very deep one actually, if you think about it, each step can count as a day in your life, and you take steps just like in a marathon to progress. A true inspiration!
This was the hardest interview I have recorded, 24 hours ahead of time the interview was confirmed (short time to prep questions), only 15 minute time slot (usually takes guests some time to warm up), English being 2nd language for both Eliud and I. Glad everything worked out, also with the 2nd conversation when we had more time to talk. Yes indeed, Eliud is a gift to us all. 🙏
Thanks again for a great video. Love to see how this channel has grown. I love his take on being consistent. That is the only way I have found to gain and to stay injury free.
For a new runner listening to GOAT clears up lot of questions and gives direction for long distance running without wrecking the body. A great interview with the greatest of all time runner the ever humble Eluid
Thank you Floris! Great video! I've shared this with our running club, hoping to spread Eliud's inspiring advice and your excellent concluding summary. Happy running!
Undoubtably the most anticipated interview of yours, the the ultimate marathoner himself on the other side. The takeaway of wathing an idol is something beyond words to express , Thank you Floris
What an incredible human to dare to believe that he could be the first person to attempt a sub 2hr. I love how it was a team mindset shift that he credits as helping him succeed. Learned a lot from this interview as someone who is running my first marathon soon, and will probably run it in around 5 hours. Thanks, Floris!
@@FlorisGierman I definitely will! It’s the Chicago marathon, which I feel like is a great first-timer course. Grateful to have found your videos many months ago, because they’ve shaped my training and how I see running. Thank you. 😊
Thanks a lot for sharing this interview, Floris! It must have been epic to sit and talk to the best marathon runner ever. I think we should not compare our performances to these kind of elite athletes because what they are doing is serious business and in fact this is their job. Instead we'd better set realistic goals and plan our training accordingly or just go out and enjoy working out whether it's running, biking or playing a ball game! Besides that I noted an interesting new word: "semi long run". Eliud told you that he (and most probably more exceptional runners) are surrounded by a whole team just for analyzing training data and elaborate the ideal training plan in an individual basis. This is exactly why I appreciate performances like Molly Seidel's podium finish in the olympic games even more. Let's find our "call" where we can do something memorable or inspire and/or help other people!
Totally Csaba, very well said. It was indeed great to finally sit down with Eliud in person, I had seen him in videos and photos for so many years. Much respect indeed to Molly Seidel's approach and performance in Tokyo too, only her 3rd real marathon! 🙏 🙌
Great information! Thank you for pointing out that recreational runners (i.e ME) have jobs, families and other responsibilities therefore it is hard to train like an elite athlete. I have to remind myself... I don't have an entire team of professionals dedicated to my running success. My major take away (as I run around my neighborhood) is to be consistent and enjoy.😀
Hi Floris, I just loved the positive energy in this interaction and so pleased for you that had such a unique opportunity to talk to the man. I thought your questions, given the short timeframe, were spot on too. There were many takeaways but the main one for me was to take notes every day - I write notes in Strava but it's not the same as noting down extra information, such as nutrition through the day, how rested you feel etc. It will help, I'm sure, in picking out patterns and trends that perhaps make some weeks better than others. So, I will start doing that as part of my daily practice. Thanks again, Floris - great inspiration from you and the big man himself! Also just watched The Last Milestone; again, so many takeaways and food for thought.
Appreciate you Andy! It was such a pleasure to speak with Eliud, something I have been working towards for the past 8 years finally worked out. Great takeaway, the additional notes can really help further dial in your training, what's working and what is not. Also, making sure you recognize when your train goes off the rails and putting it back on track again. Glad you enjoyed the movie as well, such a great watch. I've seen it once and look forward to watching it again. Thanks and cheers!

I loved that one as well Preetha!! Determining training run intensity by if you still have a lot of energy to smile, haha, so good!! 😀
I’m turning 30 this year and just started seriously running. This video is perfect timing!
Distance running could not have a better ambassador than Eliud Kipchoge, he is such an incredible human being. Thank you for conducting and posting this interview, it was fantastic, you are a great interviewer, and you couldn't have asked for a better guest!
Spot on Andrew, well said and I appreciate you!
Key takeaway “ When you’re running enjoy and be consistent in training” simple really but if you’re not enjoying running and not consistent you are not going to improve. Great advise from the GOAT 🐐
Very true Colm! 👏👏
Congrats on the big interview with the best, and thanks for taking the time to do the captioning.
Adding the subtitles was easier said than done and also a team effort from our end :D Thanks for noticing! 🙏🙌
100% Well said IR95. I have listened to this interview many times and indeed, his words include so much wisdom.
Be patient and consistent in training! So true!! Loved this interview, thank you Floris!
They key fundamentals that even for Eliud keep coming back. Glad you enjoyed it Amelia 🙏 🙌
Brings tears to my eyes watching a passionate running beast in Floris interview the greatest to ever do it! My cheeks hurt from smiling the whole interview ❤
The time period I will never forget in life is 1hour:59min:40sec, thank you for this amazing conversation with Eliud 💗
"Improvement goes hand in hand with dedication" Constancy over time. Great words from a living legend.
100% greatest of all time in many ways!
Fav quote or rather moment is your parting question and Kipchoge’s passionate expressive response that his camera shakes, Dedication, consistency, start and finish, is something that will stay with me.
Great job Floris! Keep inspiring..
Thanks for sharing!! That was one of my favorite parts as well, his passion for running is contagious.
👍 🙌 🙏 Thanks Gabriel!
Absolute gold here
I’ll be re-watching this to stay focus on what’s most important: dedication, consistency, accepting failure, and making sure to enjoy every step of the way.
Running day in and day out one can forget to enjoy it. It can be all about watching your watch and missing the scenery around you. I like that Kipchoge reminded us to enjoy our running and just finish your runs each day.
Well said! Spot on Ray
O wow, thanks so much, that means a lot Brandon! Same here, love how down to earth and humble Eliud is. Well said on your takes of the conversation. 👌
Every word coming out of his mouth is gold, every line is a legendary quote. This shows how much a deep thinker he is..
Yes in one of the documentaries he says he reads a lot 😊
So true Shubham, he surely is a deep thinker and inspiration in many ways.
Yes FC, I get that impression that he is well read
Such a legend! Great interview Floris - how cool to meet him !
Awesome Interview! My favorite quote is "In running and in life. It's important to GROW SLOWLY, to be PATIENT but above all, BE CONSISTENT in training"
👌 Great daily reminder right there Princeton!
Great lesson to take away from this José! 🙏
I love it when he said Everyone has a Call, and you need dedication, consistency and a coach/ eco system to help you. All great points ! Thanks for sharing Floris!
Well said! Congrats on your new 1/2 marathon PR Lucas! 🏃♂️🔥🔥🔥
Believing you can do it and dedication
But also to enjoy your running
Im 55 and didnt start running any distance training and events until my late 30's early 40's
Im still as slow as a herd of turtles but ive improved considerably since my early days of running
This year alone ive set many pb's from 1k up to a 50k ultra the only event distance missing is my fastest 1/2 marathon
Im getting quicker and my goal is to break 1:40
Eliud never fails to inspire me to improve and i still have a great love of running
Thanks again for posting this interview
👍🙂🏃♂️
Wow... Just keep running and believe improvements will come. Great insights from the world's best
👏👏 all about that consistency and dedication!
This is brilliant. I loved what he said about the calling. A great takeaway not only for running but for love. Thank you so much Floris
You are so welcome Genfres! His calling and the systems to support his calling are spot on. 👍
Thank you for sharing a truly inspirational athlete's story. The interview humanized an out of this world athlete and his success.
Well said endlesssummer555. The Greatest Of All Time on many levels!
Improvement goes hand in hand with dedication. Such a strong quote from him. And what he is saying you have to be all in. Great interview Floris and keep up the great work.
Absolutely! And glad to hear that Timothy! 🙏
Thanks Floris and Eluid, really enjoyed! "Improvements actually go hand in hand with dedication" was my favorite takeaway from the interview
Great daily reminder right there Ian!
The human family. This is my new mantra. It’s not a race, where you’re trying to win against everyone else. It’s a family where we support each other, in order to achieve even greater things.
I don’t know who first said this, but Kipchoge lives: “If you want to run fast, run alone. If you want to run far, run together.”
This was a wonderful interview, Floris.
Well said Thienan, the more we train and race, the more we learn and grow as an athlete. Glad you enjoyed it! 🙏
Be consistent in your training
Absolutely, couldn't agree more. Great lesson and takeaway!
👍👍
I love this man and what he stands for. I also absolutely loved that it was the first time his wife and children had seen him run and were there at the finish line of his successful under 2hrs marathon.....Beautiful!!!
What a special finish line moment that was! Beautiful indeed
Consistency, faith, showing up, walk your talk. Thanks, Floris -- what a great interview.
Thanks for listening and great takeaways right there Tom! 👏 🙏
@@FlorisGierman that’s awesome! 🤗
Great interview, I know you were time constrained and Kipchoge is a current athlete so his camp would not want to divulge too much, but he did give great advice. My number one takeaway was to work on your plan, do the training and week after week you will improve.
Indeed, even in that 15 minute time frame on Zoom that was recorded, he already shared many insights. Glad you enjoyed the interview Mark, thank you!
Great interview! Takeaways: Dedication to your training, commitment to the day by day, surrounding yourself with the right people and enjoying the run!
Boom! Summarized it very well Richard. Glad you enjoyed it 👍🙏
To me the key takeaway message is to be consistent day after day, month after month and year after year. Running is a lifestyle. Thank you for sharing this interview Floris.
Well said!
Awesome Floris. Well done. The key takeaway from this interview for me, is that Siffan Hassan will be training for a sub 2:10 world record marathon!
Hi Karel, good to hear from you! Exciting to follow Sifan Hassan's running journey in the coming years. Hup Holland Hup!
I totally know what you mean and feel the same Kevin!
His message to consistently put in the training and enjoy! Very powerful. Additionally, inspired by the 2017 sub-2 hour attempt and how to learn from failure.
👍👍 great takeaways Anna! The 2017 "failury" that was actually a success to get closure to his final goal, that was surely eye opening.
I love his sharing too because I’m training for running after working out every single day a month ago. Thank you, Floris and Eliud.
Thanks Floris for this interview!
Any time Jozef! I'm looking forward to our BBQ tomorrow and getting some swimming lessons from you and Duc 😬🥳😎
If I am going to take Running Tips and advice, it will be from the GOAT Kipchoge. Thank you 👍
So interesting to hear how he keeps up his training year round. I had always been taught periodization meaning taking periods of much reduced training. I will research this further. And always good to not be afraid of reaching and "failing" and learning. If you are not making "mistakes" you are not growing.
Much reduced training.
Is still training no?
Awesome interview! Thank you!
Not only is he a superb athlete, but possibly more importantly, a kind and wise soul. Bless you, Eliud Kipchoge.
I admire his calmness and the contentment he radiates. He is not at all aloof or arrogant and repeatedly emphasizes the importance of teamwork. A real star without airs and graces!
So well said Sve! He really does radiate calmness and contentment, I noticed this in particular when we met in person.
He talked about systems which filled me with vigour because I keep telling my closer runner friends that systems and processes are very important for substantial progress. I could now show my friends this video and have my savage moments 😂😂
haha go get em Abhilash!! 🤣🤣
i really like that he talks about his team and their conjoined effort. its gives me very realistic ideas for my progress, bc i don't have access to that, and i appreciate his humility.
Marathon is life. That's a very deep one actually, if you think about it, each step can count as a day in your life, and you take steps just like in a marathon to progress. A true inspiration!
Very well said about each step that can count as a day in your life! Love that comparison
“Improvement goes hand in hand with dedication.” 💯
This is an awesome interview!! Great job preparing for this Floris - that is no easy task. Eliud is a gift to us all.
Hope others in your running club find Eliud's insights that he shared helpful. Nice to hear this Damian. 🙏
19:30 5 min/km is just for warm up , easy long everyday runs are about 4min/km for him.
Undoubtably the most anticipated interview of yours, the the ultimate marathoner himself on the other side.
The takeaway of wathing an idol is something beyond words to express , Thank you Floris
Great interview. Next time include the lows as well. For instance what may have contributed to the dismal performance in the London marathon.
excellent short & crisp session with the legend
What an incredible human to dare to believe that he could be the first person to attempt a sub 2hr. I love how it was a team mindset shift that he credits as helping him succeed. Learned a lot from this interview as someone who is running my first marathon soon, and will probably run it in around 5 hours. Thanks, Floris!
Have a great race Rachel, you will always remember your first marathon. Let me know how it goes afterwards! Don't start too fast 😜
@@FlorisGierman I definitely will! It’s the Chicago marathon, which I feel like is a great first-timer course. Grateful to have found your videos many months ago, because they’ve shaped my training and how I see running. Thank you. 😊
You are my inspiration Mr. Legend Kipchoge. I ran everyday, I tried my best not to postpone my running. The key is always 'consistent.'
My major take away (as I run around my neighborhood) is to be consistent and enjoy.😀
this was so inspirational - thank you - there were so many take aways and I feel inspired for what my next race will look like. Gradual progress
Loved this...both Kipchoge's simple advice and the interviewer's takeaways. Thanks💜
8:58 thanks for the graphic. Now I understood why they had that formation.
It will be amazing if we see him in Paris too. Fingers crossed, hopefully he will be there .
