    Adios Pro 3 or Nike Vaporfly for 5k? Also, can I notice any difference if I wear AP3 for a 5k race compared to a max cushioned shoe?

      You’ll notice a difference in AP3 over max cushioned shoes for sure. Honestly, there’s barely a playing card between those two shoes. Recently, I’ve been loving the Metaspeed Sky Paris - that’d be my pick 👍

    Great work mate! I found this really insightful as training for my first 100k - is there anything different you would have done in training or anything you think was a key contributor for your success?

    • @TheVeganRunner
      @TheVeganRunner 7 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Hi Jack, thanks for watching and your kind words. A couple of year on, I've just finished my first 100 miler and reflected on training for RTTS and made a couple of changes so my advice would be: - Dial in the nutrition. Work out how many calories you need, and how often and practice this on your longest runs. - Hydration: it was about 35C+ for most of the day - I wish I had an extra 500ml flask (I had two). This would have really helped in the final few hours. - Remember the 50K guys head off at the same time - I got caught up with 50K group on a narrow section of the course and they were pushing the pace. I stuck with them - not realising they were 50K racers! - Mix-up the terrain on your long runs. Trail/road - find rolling and challenging hills, don't worry about walking them - you will be at RTTS. As for key contributors - a solid block of consistent training was the main factor I think. Get the mileage in, the time on feet and the rest will take care of itself. Good luck!

    I have the previous version and love them in very dry conditions. However they are absolutely lethal in slippery conditions, with mud just filling up the bottom of the shoe and turning them into a pair of skates. Definitely not All Terrain. Hard to justify buying another pair given our wet conditions in the UK.

    • @TheVeganRunner
      @TheVeganRunner 27 วันที่ผ่านมา

      Couldn’t agree with you more. I had that experience last weekend, after making this film, 20 miles in to a 100-mile ultra. My PUMA road shoes offered better grip and traction after these had clogged up! Perfect in dry conditions, but as you say, we almost always have some wet ground to cover in the U.K.

    The plate isn't 100% carbon. You can confirm the percentage, but I think it's 70% carbon. I've got 180 km on it - I received an early pre-release. I like everything about it but the heel. The counter is weak. There is a half counter and then the shark thingy on the outside of the heel that doesn't do much for me. I need to do the runner's loop on this one, but not on my other 3 Puma shoes (Deviate 2s, Velocity 3s, Magnify 2s). This version of the Deviates are more stable than the last version, but I think that's more to do with the plate, which I think is stiffer then the last version. Thanks for your review!

  • @snowwalker9999

    I bought both Deviate Nitro 3 and Velocity Nitro 3 for daily training. I can't decide which one to return. To be honest I feel Velocity Nitro 3 is a better "daily trainer". It's very versatile and despite not having a plate and superfoam can be every bit as fast as the DN3 with more comfort. The Deviate Nitro feels a little like overkill. I feel super trainers are just to add a little bit more spice to the running experience but they do take a away something and that is the authentic running sensation under your feet unless you give them a specific role in your rotation. Thanks for the video. I could never do it while running.

    • @TheVeganRunner
      @TheVeganRunner หลายเดือนก่อน

      Really interesting thoughts Snowwalker - thanks for taking the time to comment. I really enjoyed the Velocity Nitro 2, it was the pair of shoes I was always grabbing before heading out until I received the DN3. There’s just something about the DN3 I really enjoy and can’t quite put my finger on when comparing the two. Where I think these shoes will really shine is mid-block, on tired legs and you need something to just add a bit of pep to the run, rest the legs a bit and have a bit of fun. It could also be a good introduction to carbon plated shoes for those who haven’t tried them out yet. There not quite as aggressive (or as expensive) as the race day supers.

I also put my phone in there but was at my own risk, and as far I can remember tubes were free for racers so didn’t need it to pay for anything (but we were going straight to somewhere to eat) We received bags at the end too with a tshirt, water and flapjack. Great video. I'm running at Brighton in April 24. May I ask how cambered the roads were? I've heard there quite sloped in some sections. Was hoping to use Prime X shoes but worried that if I'm running on angles that will be a bit too unstable.

      @TheVeganRunner 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks Mr Bump! Hope the training is going well. I’ll think you’ll be fine in the Prime X. I don’t recall any roads with an aggressive camber - it was all pretty well surfaced and smooth running.

    My personal preference with watches - don’t touch them during the run at all, no pace advisers and no distractions from them. Nothing more frustrating than mess something up during the run, like clicking lap button accidentally twice or constantly get beeped by watch just because they fail to get gps signal and can’t get your speed right.

      @@kmdsummon I see - I don’t have those alerts either, I tried them once on a run but it wasn’t helpful. Pace can be inaccurate due to gps error, so hitting the lap button at the mile marker seems like a good idea to me. Some people print out wrist bands with their target times for every mile, I might look into that as well.

    I run in similar conditions; back lanes of English countryside. The tarmac gets chewed up by tractors and theres usually a build up of mud and puddles and the odd smattering of manure too! Just wondering about my next shoe. Is it better to have a stability shoe for these surfaces to avoid rolling an ankle? I'd like to run faster so I'm considering the Novablast 4 but also the GT2000 12 TR. I've been in a Kayano 27 for three years and no injuries at all in that time. I'm not sure about a rockered trainer like the Clifton 9 as my knees ligaments are knackered. Any feedback much appreciated!

      @TheVeganRunner 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi Tom, thanks for your comment. I’d stick to neutral shoes if you’re a beau trail runner. I believe the support in support shoes wouldn’t be strong enough to stop you from rolling an ankle. Much better to have a more agile shoe, something a bit lower to the ground (something like the Deviate Nitro 2?) that gets you up on your toes/mid foot.

    • @TomUK7
      @TomUK7 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thanks wholeheartedly for the advice and recommendation. Just the kind of direction I needed after having consumed an avalanche of shoe reviews! I always had a sneaking suspicion that my needs are more specific than the standard running reviews take into consideration. Which is understandable as they are trying to reach as wide an audience as possible. I have ordered the Nitro 2 with 15% off. The PumaGrip sole looks as though it will give just the right amount of traction without wearing down too fast. Combine that with the lower stack for stability, cushioned upper and carbon plate for support/rebound and it looks ideal! And its fairly lightweight too! I wouldnt have thought to look too far beyond Asics! Many thanks. Subscribed!

    Great vid. I'm having that same issue with the lack of stability causing overpronation in my right ankle, I have the V3s (I'm not a fast runner but want to do the very best I can and loved the Nike invincible with the zoom X) and just wearing them in the house to see what they'll be like I can see my ankle turning in. I love my Speed 3s but wanted a 'special' shoe for my first road marathon - Brighton in a few months - your other vids are on my list to watch :) Maybe they're not the shoe for me especially for such a long race and potentially being on my feet for hours and hours. Did the strengthening help?

    • @TheVeganRunner
      @TheVeganRunner 6 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Thank you 🙏 Yeah a little bit of strength work helped - I wore them for Brighton and absolutely loved them. I find the Alpha’s a lot more stable, and will probably be wearing AF3 at London marathon this year - especially if the latest version is like the originals. I’m finishing I get that pronation on a lot of shoes with a high stack - perhaps it’s just par for the course in such built up shoes! Good luck with training for Brighton - I loved it!

      The winterised upper is thicker than the standard shoe. I think they’d be fine in Spring/Autumn but not breathable enough for Summer.
