  • Ever since taking up running 6 years ago, THE London Marathon has been on my dream race list. This year, I finally secured a place in this iconic race, so join me as I take you through every mile sharing my highs and lows along the way.
    This year, I set myself the challenge of completing my third marathon in under 3 hours, but with only 16 miles of marathon pace training under my belt, it was going to be a tough ask. I pushed myself harder than ever before, facing physical and mental challenges at every turn. From the steep inclines to the deafening crowds, every obstacle was an opportunity for me to prove to myself what I was truly capable of.
    As the miles ticked by, I could feel the fatigue setting in, but I refused to give up. With the finish line in sight, I summoned all the strength I had left and sprinted to the end, crossing the line in a time of...well, you'll have to watch the video to find out!
    This vlog is not just about my personal journey, but also about the incredible atmosphere of the London Marathon. From the supportive spectators to the inspiring runners, this event is a true celebration of human resilience and determination.
    So come along with me on this unforgettable journey and witness the triumphs and tribulations of the London Marathon 2023. Don't forget to like and subscribe to my channel for more exciting vlogs like this!

    Amazing to meet you and Sarah at the Expo! You are indeed a legend. Thank you for all of your advice, as a new runner it's been invaluable! Loved every moment of London apart from the cramps from 30kms, but got it done! The crowds were incredible!!

    You basically spent 26.2 miles overtaking!! Absolutely awesome Lee. Decades ago I ran similar times but no way as comfortable as you, I struggled to walk properly after, your recovery is superb and it says to me a Championship place ie sub2.45 is definitely there. Was great to see you en route, looking forward to watching Rachel's run too :)

      Coming from an accomplished and fantastic runner such as yourself Mike, that means a lot. I’ve definitely got the confidence to push for that championship place now - we’re discussing Valencia as I write… Thanks again for being there Mike and the continued support, see you bright and early tomorrow morning ☺️

  • @TumoRuns
    @TumoRuns ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Cracking run that. Tough conditions on the day as well, it got warm! RE: GPS, Pete’s Pacer Pro app on the garmin is superb. When you manually lap, it recalculates your time based on your manual splitting and gives you an updated ETA. It basically overrides the GPS element, eliminating any issues you might experience with losing signal etc.
    It was a godsend for me, knowing exactly where I was and what I needed - particularly when I was in the pain cave at 24 miles knowing I only needed to run 8:00/mi to go sub-3 😂

    • @TheVeganRunner
      @TheVeganRunner  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks Ben! And thanks for the tip with the pacing app - I definitely need to check that out as I was considering getting one of those wrist bands that have all your target splits printed on them, but that sounds a lot better. It’s pretty tough to do that kind of maths whilst blowing hard! Well done on that sub-3 🙌🙌🙌

Primarily to soak up the experience as much as possible - it really was the highlight of the race for me. @@chrisshaw2810 That’s a strong outlook to have Chris, well done on hitting that 4 hour mark and more importantly, for running Brighton! Certainly hillier than London

      @@TheVeganRunner I started running in March 2020, and I made a policy decision that I would never fall into the trap of 'being disappointed' at not hitting a time, or finishing, or whatever - it's just for fun.
      Brighton was 622ft of elevation. London was 328ft. UTMB Nice was 10,774ft, but at least it wasn't monotonous! Refer back to your video about Stoicism. 🙂

      @@chrisshaw2810 Wow! That’s an insane about of climbing. London must feel pancake flat comparatively. I like your outlook Chris - I lost a bit of the ‘fun’ in this training block and had to remind myself of something similar.

    Do you strength training for marathon? And How to ?

      Hi Phoenix, I had a lot of digging out stumps and heavy lifting in the garden, plus splitting logs manually during this training block. That seemed adequate for this time but I’d like to incorporate more formal strength and conditioning into my training but I haven’t found a plan I’m happy with yet…
