I use dish soap instead of grease in the housing. Washes right out, doesn’t let sand stick to nothing and im not flushing sticky grease through the engine for sand to maybe get stuck to. I know some use vasoline , some use grease . Mercury 2-4-c does contain petroleum distillates and petroleum attacks rubber.
    Dawn dish soap for me
Thanks for taking the time on the video

I have also used dish soap and works just fine. The 2-4-c is just the most easily accessible in the workshop. Thanks for the tip!

Nice job explaining how things go together. My main comment would be the use of the impact driver. I never like to use them when you have dissimilar metals and fasteners that have not been removed in a long time. It's to easy to destroy the aluminum threads. Also, I don't know the value, but I would guess that the torque spec is pretty low for those bolts that hold the housing together.

The orange rings go in that little coupling you first took off

I notice there appears to be a angle cut at the tip of the impeller blades, so wouldn't that make a difference as to what position the new impeller is installed?

if the pee stream is still strong and the water at the prop isn't hot, should you change the impeller? Is impeller replacement always done every 2 to 3 years?

Good video my friend. Just wondering, would Quicksilver 2-4-C lubricant substitute for the Mercury brand? I believe they are the same but it never hurts to ask

Can you link the exact kit you ordered?

Great video, thanks. Just a few questions. What year is that engine, what type of grease are you using? Also, I have a 2015 Mercury 90hp with only 54hrs. Never have changed the impeller. Would you recommend I change it or wait till I put more hrs on it. It runs fine, just don’t know if I should because of the year. Thanks ahead of time....

I would just go and do it. The rubber impeller will stiffen up and rot over time. It's cheap insurance.

This engine is a 2020 model. On all of the marine engines we use Mercury 2-4-c grease. Changing out your impeller is not a bad idea even if you only have 54 hours on it. As the impeller sits inside the housing, it can either start dry rotting or it sort of “forms” to the housing shape, losing some of its pumping power.

    Is this a 4 stroke?

The quicksilver kit didn’t include that plastic tool for the top gasket on drive shaft. I have a 2 stroke 75 from 2001. Looks a bit different. Good video though.
