Trick I learned working at a boat shop. Coat the impeller with dish soap and it all slides in super smooth and lubes the rubber fins.

I like to place in forward first thing so nothing up top moves. When you reinstall, if no go, turn prop a little with one hand and it slips right in. Mercury says don't grease very tip top of shaft, could experience vapor lock, light grease on side of splines ok. Good time to remove prop and check behind it for fishing line.

Luckily I put it in the forward gear position before taking the lower unit apart, but turning the prop still did not allow the lower unit to slip back in. In this case we had to turn the flywheel while the other applied upwards pressure on the lower unit. Thanks for the explanation on why the grease isn't reccomended on the top of the shaft!

@@FoilFanatic42 You are welcome. You can usually find the way with very small turning of the prop, and a little bump - bump move up and she slips right in. Small moves, it's all by feel.

I have same motor. I had water pump replaced in reputable shop last time. This time i did it myself and when it took lower unit off it didn't have seal on the shaft either. Makes me wonder

Yeah, I'm not sure if some kits have it and some don't or if people just don't put them on. Interesting for sure.

It came with the boat when I bought it. Unfortunately, I'm not sure where it can be found.

What was the part number for the kit? Im having trouble finding it for my 115

I used the Sierra International 18-3570 and it has held up very well!

That should be the same for a 2000 tracker 115 right?

@christopherlaw1021 I am not sure about that. Are you able to find your engine's manual online? That's usually the best bet, then cross-referencing the new part number.
