Learn how to replace the impeller or water pump on your #Mercury four stroke outboard motor. Capt. Orlando of Nomad Fishing Charters takes you the process step by step.
At the 1:57 mark you are taking out the bolt that holds the annode plate on. Can you tell me what size socket to use? That bolt is way down a chamber and it would be very helpful to know what socket I'm trying to attach to it. Thank you!!!!
I believe that was a rubber seal that fits over the shaft and rests on the housing. Also applied some grease to the bolts to keep them from seizing up. Good Luck, Capt. O
@@CaptOrlandoMuniz thank you, switched it out today .. also replaced a broken speedometer while in there which the piece broke in side and had to reverse tap it out .. also had prop engaged in Forward so when I put it all together and fired it up the prop only spun ion one direction . so pulled it down and lifted the gear spindle and twisted it, that put it in Neutral pushed it back up and that was it .. thanks again.
Shouldn’t matter as long as both the shifter and lower unit are in the same position. Sometimes the rod on the lower unit moves out of place and it becomes a bit of a PIA. If that happens and they don’t align, you’ll have to check their positions again. Good Luck, Capt. O
Exellent video step by step
Thank You!
Captain thank you for step by step it helps lot
👍👍👍
AM I THE ONLY ONE THAT NOTICED HE PUT THE IMPELLER ON BACKWARDS FROM THE WAY IT WAS REMOVED!???
There’s a chance it looks backwards on video. If it is on backwards, works great. 🤣
From what I can tell, he moved the camera from one side to the other. It’s on the same way.
Great video thank you so much for sharing.
Do you need to torque anything or just hand-tighten as normal?
Thanks! I don’t usually torque anything. I just hand tighten.

I believe it is 3/8 or 5/16. I normally just check the size with the new one before removing the old. They should be the same size.
Good Luck, Capt. O
Gracias por sus esplicaciones

What did u put on at 8:20 .. didn’t mention that

@@robrandolph9463That’s Awesome! 👏👏
Do you put in neutral or forward before removing the lower unit?

Im not sure if the lower fluid is released when dropping the lower unit.
Great video! Is the 2020 90hp mercury command thrust impeller changed the same way? Thanks in advance Lord Jesus Bless You 1:55
Not sure but probably very similar
Great video...torque specs?
Those can vary depending on make, model, and manufacture. May want to check your owners manual.
Thanks, Capt. O
Do I need to take off my propeller to replace my impeller on my 40 mercury 4 stroke?
Not necessarily. Just makes the lower unit lighter and easier to work with.
Tight Lines, Capt. O
Thank you
Yeah. It was installed backwards.
Lol… pretty sure the camera inverted the image so it looks backwards. 😜
