here's what you look out for when buying a mustang. take it on the interstate. make sure power steering works. pay attention to noises. probably has a passenger manifold leak. check interior. someone probably broke the clips off something. meaning they worked on the wiring and didn't know what they are doing. listen for idle misses and check oil pressure gauge. the miss is something stupid (coil pack spark plugs etc...) probably get it cheaper. bring code reader too. check for missing codes or simple error codes. check power windows mirrors and seats. there could be a fault in the wiring that can cause other problems down the road.

I have a 2002 and it's my first Mustang I have owned. Let me tell you I'm 58y.o. and out of all the cars I have owned through the years this is the car that I have the most fun in by far! Great video! I was thinking about buying an Audi but I might just get a Mustang instead - much cheaper to work on, better junk yard parts availability, and insurance might be cheaper than an Audi with a V8. I’m not a fan of the 5th gen Mustang design so if I get one I’ll probably go with the 4th gen, 99-04 first priority and 94-98 second priority.
I have a 1999 Mustang GT and one thing to expect from an 18 year old car is that shit will break left and right lol. I hit 125 mph and blew the hydro booster seals. The engine has 256k miles and besides burning some oil it's running ok.
I guess I don't get why you made this video. I own several a 69 fastback, 03 Cobra, a 02 convert. Mustang and 02 Mustang GT and the only problems are regular wear and tear maintenance and cosmetic issues that can be fixed. Also a 122,000 miles on a 15 year old car is pretty good considering average KBB annual miles are between 13,000 and 15,000. Also you kept bringing up the possibility of it having been raced, it's a part of why people love it and all mine handle amazingly. My advice to you is to remake this video with actual realistic expectations/inspection on a 15yr old car such as how the engine should sound without issues, subframe damage, if there are add-ons like power seats, a sunroof or convert. top, in dash stereo w 6cd changer, etc working properly and/or not leaking and smooth shifting gears (especially on a manual trans. [include possible issues with the clutch like sticking or loose etc]) not this crap about scratches and paint chips, dents, and wear on the seat. Also if you are having an alignment problem there's several possible issues like a bad mechanic, bent subframe (don't let someone lie to you a 02 does NOT have a full frame it has 2 subframes with connectors), motor mount issues on one side or the other, tire rod is a big one and an easy fix it can also cause the uneven tread you pointed out but so can the wrong psi in the tire.
Danny Madickin lol yeah that's bad, most common problem is that the rocker arm pops out and rocker arms don't pop out without a reason, meaning that the engine might have more issues
i got my 03 mustang and it was making a loud noise. I figured out that it was the Tie Rod that was bent, and was rubbing against the ball baring... got it fixed for about $499. Still happy with my first car tho
That’s pretty good I bought mine based on this video and it has 92,086 miles and no scratches whatsoever and no funky tires new tread new paint and original everything and leather seats 40th anniversary edition and 4.6 v8 and I’m 18 it’s my first car it’s a great deal it’s my grandpa who sold it to me for $5000 I will keep up my insurance and pay it all by myself I love the car love the video thanks 🙏
So basically your title should just read what to expect/inspect on ANY vehicle lol you didn't really cover anything in particular to actually look out for in stangs you just covered what to look for when buying an older vehicle
Mustang Gurus then you should've renamed the video like he said. You never mentioned anything about the plastic intake manifold or making sure it has an aluminum crossover and intact heater hose, nothing about the changes in the belt/pulley assembly and heads halfway through 2001 which would be important if you want to know whether it has the original engine, nothing about the wiper cowl panel always being cracked, nothing about window tint falling off the matrix dots along the top of the back window, nothing about the creaks in the steering that Ford even posted a service bulletin about, nothing about what options to look for like the interior upgrade package with the bigger headrests, or the Mach 460 or Mach 1000 stereos, traction control, hood scoop on a V6, difference in the 99-00 and 01-04 exterior, the 35th anniversary packagefor the 99 or the 40th anniversary package in 04 and how *all* the cars from those years, Cobras excluded, had special anniversary fender emblems which could be important if someone claims the car is an 04 when it really isn't, nothing about the Bullitt, Mach 1, or Cobra, nothing about which colors are rare, nothing about export tails, Cobra mirrors, Mach 1/Bullitt sail panels, 35 anniversary side skirts, 99/01 Cobra bumpers, or any other super rare and expensive parts. Like what the hell dude, do you even own a new edge?
Hey since you mentioned it, what are the rare colors? I found a sonic blue '02 but I've never seen that on a new edge before. And the Mach stereos, I heard that one of them has a bad amp.
I bought my 2000 at127,000 and it runs good. I'm not tripping on scratches. That's diva stuff. I just want it to run good, look and sound good, and run like a bat outta hell. And just got it painted. Has the Bose speakers and amps
When you check the oil you must of had the engine running for 5 to 10 seconds then shut it off. Next when you pull the dipstick out wipe the oil dipstick off and make sure you don't put the stick back in with any paper towel or anything that can get stuck on to the stick before you reinsert it. Once you know the stick is clean reinsert it back into the engine and pull it back out again. Once it's out try to keep it level when you do. The reason why you want to do each step is 1 running the engine helps to circulate the oil in the engine just enough to help get an accurate reading. Making sure the dipstick is clean before reinserting it is because when it goes back into the engine down in the oil pan if there is paper or something like that it can get stuck in the engine oil passages in the engine and starve the engine of oil and cause damage. Last but not least keeping the dipstick level after you pull it out helps you to keep an accurate reading.
I got a manual 2002 mustang with only 90k miles (19 year old car), I only paid $500. I didn't inspect it because it still drove strong and I'm not going to not buy it just because of paint issues and interior wear.
I hate convertibles so much especially on mustangs mostly for the reason because once the car gets age on it and to purchase a new top for it the cost is ridiculous. They don't last for longer than 5 years unless they are garaged and protected from the sun. A friend of mine purchased one and had a new top on it and it was left outside and the roof was worn out in 3 years.
My first top lasted for 17 years And it is parked outside. Just take care and clean your top properly. Then I replaced the top just last year. If you can do it yourself, it will be a lot cheaper.
Not much of a fan for convertibles either. Don't get me wrong, they do look nice. It's more of a cruiser to me and not a muscle car. Hang out with family, friends or even by yourself with the top down. Feeling the sun and breeze. Wish I had one just for that alone. Keep it stock and looking good. Hardtops are for the muscle car scene.
My mom has a 96 convertible and her top is still in nice condition and it's been 10 years now and it's always sat outside you just have to know how to take care of it
These cars came stock with a limited slip diff all the way back to 94 (maybe earlier) and I think even the v6 came with it back to 01. 3.55s are very common ring gears, big boohoo with rock chips and faded paint, it's an old car. A little TLC and you can fix all of that. Alignment is a thing but anything with modded suspension you should check alignment. Previous mods, yes, but that's any car, oil leaks? Well it can be over 20 years old now, depends on how well it was taken care of and stuff. What you really look for is: is it bolt ons? Stock? Cams? Forged with boost/nitrous? Are they running boost or nitrous on stock bottom end? Do they change their oil? Shit like that. These cars came with absolutely cruddy bottom ends, and a rod and piston GT or nom-terminator cobra is worth a LOT more than a stock bottom end version. A terminator is it's own class. Loom at your rear control arms and torque box, are the stock? Off car adjustable? On car adjustable? Is the torque box beat up? Is it reinforced? Has it been stick welded three times? (I got burned with one that had non-adjustable aftermarket control arms and a stick welded torque box amongst other things, that was the only one I didn't know about at purchase but would've been a deal breaker had I known.
My 01 was perfect until while sitting at a light near a school bus exit some dumb biotch pulls out and turns right too quick and the bus rear tire rubbed my left back bumper...I could get out of traffic to catch it or the number..was shit out of luck. Damnit. Got a run there now. Gotta find a way to get it out.
nice video and nothing wrong with adding another video like this to TH-cam ..but you said you've never watched any other with this kind of title..but surely you've watched some...everyone with new edges have lol
What's the song playing at the start of the video? And don't mind all the negative comments bro. At least you took the time to try and help people, I think that's a little more important in itself. 👍🏼
Cool vid man!! Alot of harsh criticism in the comments and likes? I thought you covered points well and it is relative to all cars but who cares we got to look at some cool stangs in the vid Thumbs up!
Yeah I failed at number 7. I baught a rod knock GT cost me 700$ for a whole new engine and labor but it was a junk yard engine and my school did the labor so that was mega cheap my mechanic quoted me 4.5k for a whole new engine and labor
Looking at purchasing a 2001 Mustang GT Coupe (automatic transmission). 136,000 mileage. What would your top dollar offer be (not having seen it) for one in fair to good shape?
4k for a cobra with 200k miles sounds pretty normal to me and I have a 1999 cobra. If you're talking about an 03-04 cobra for 4k it must be destroyed for that price.
I know you’re just trying to help people dead but like dent on my car is not something look for that’s to be expected things wrong with the car like suspension wearing out at a certain time the motor has a little kink in it or this many miles you should look out for your intake manifold cracking or something like that little dents and scratches going to happen on any car not just a Mustang you should label this as where to look on the car

I'm honestly not sure, but i do know that bright Atlantic blue is rare!
Thinking about saving up for one of these edges to learn stick really want to learn and I feel this would be a good stepping stone to learn
Good vid. I like what you prefer & I also prefer Red !
Mine is 20 years old and wow almost flawless
I got a manual 2002 mustang with only 90k miles (19 year old car), I only paid $500. I didn't inspect it because it still drove strong and I'm not going to not buy it just because of paint issues and interior wear.
I hate convertibles so much especially on mustangs mostly for the reason because once the car gets age on it and to purchase a new top for it the cost is ridiculous. They don't last for longer than 5 years unless they are garaged and protected from the sun. A friend of mine purchased one and had a new top on it and it was left outside and the roof was worn out in 3 years.
Yeah, convertibles take more effort to keep in good condition.
Steve The Man Simple Fix get a car cover
My first top lasted for 17 years
And it is parked outside.
My mom has a 96 convertible and her top is still in nice condition and it's been 10 years now and it's always sat outside you just have to know how to take care of it
I was STUNNED when he said 3-4k is too much for 200k mustangs i see tons of 150-200k mustangs asking 5-8k its wild
Ayyee NC represent!
So basically what to look for when purchasing any vehicle... ok gotcha 👍🏾
When we bought our 2004 gt 40th anniversary it was all stock
So happy I found my 2001 GT MINT WITH ONLY 15K MILES!
Ryan Martin boi i got mine with 330k miles on it my dad put in a new motor when it had 300k and the new motor in it now had 128k miles
Change the title to 10 things to look for when buying any car
My 01 was perfect until while sitting at a light near a school bus exit some dumb biotch pulls out and turns right too quick and the bus rear tire rubbed my left back bumper...I could get out of traffic to catch it or the number..was shit out of luck. Damnit. Got a run there now. Gotta find a way to get it out.
+Daehawk Dang, that sucks. I hate how inconsiderate people are...
I appreciate your videos but I really would think about changing your name... Mustang Guru, you are not.. Sorry man
I'm sorry you feel that way... But thanks for the compliment!
lmao he changed his name
Cuz I got a new car haha
about to buy one off my friend hopefully it's 😊
nis is that foor sal .
i love it .
This video is nothing specific to mustangs, more like all used cars in general
If it has any miles on it you should check out the ball joints
For sure! Mine were so bad. Same with my tie rod ends
nice video and nothing wrong with adding another video like this to TH-cam ..but you said you've never watched any other with this kind of title..but surely you've watched some...everyone with new edges have lol
Thanks!
Cool color mustang!
Thanks!
Lol caster camber plates isn't the only weigh you can align it when lowered lol I'm dropped over two inches and I can still get an alignment xX
120k miles on a car that's almost 20 years old is not high mileage.
Make a video of what are the use of some bottoms I just got mine 3 days ago and I don’t want to touch them cuz I feel like I don’t know what im doing
I thought all of them came with posi
3.55 rear great isn't very aggressive either lol
I payed 5k for my 03 true blue gt with 68k miles on rovos wheels rolling on nitto 335/30zr18 and everything was good on it Loo
What's the song playing at the start of the video? And don't mind all the negative comments bro. At least you took the time to try and help people, I think that's a little more important in itself. 👍🏼
Giraffe Squad - Wait for me
Thanks for the support!
Great Video Thank You!
Cool vid man!! Alot of harsh criticism in the comments and likes? I thought you covered points well and it is relative to all cars but who cares we got to look at some cool stangs in the vid Thumbs up!
+2RCPRODUCTIONS thank you! I appreciate the positive vibes!
My 04 GT has 275,000 miles. High mileage does not always reflect a low price.
Scott Granger $5000 max
I remember when i had one of these. Now that i look back on it, the fake hood scoop was a bit much.
you should talk about the trans cross member clunking noises. bushings worn out. things that are issue true the sn95
good looking stang what type of wheels are those
Chuck Evans HHC-YG Thanks! They are 2013 GT500 style
Loveee
I miss my 03 GT
Can anyone tell me if a set of 20 inch wheels American muscle bullets will work on my 2000 base mustang
Manual is fun, you gotta drive one once, you'll have a hard time going back to auto.
+jrag1000 Very true!
No you’re right about the change thing lol
Thinking about getting a 2004 Gt 113,000 miles what do u think
As long as it runs good and looks good!
4k for a cobra with 200k miles sounds pretty normal to me and I have a 1999 cobra. If you're talking about an 03-04 cobra for 4k it must be destroyed for that price.
haha my v6 has 234k on it and its still going strong
This was literally just a general maintenance video
I know you’re just trying to help people dead but like dent on my car is not something look for that’s to be expected things wrong with the car like suspension wearing out at a certain time the motor has a little kink in it or this many miles you should look out for your intake manifold cracking or something like that little dents and scratches going to happen on any car not just a Mustang you should label this as where to look on the car
one day
8 minutes and 56 seconds of my life that I will never get back. I feel TH-cam should have paid me to watch it. I get you like messing with your car while shooting video but work on something factual and specific to a 99-04 mustang.
4 years later, the cheapest one I can find is 4K and they have issues 😅
S281 saleen or cobra?
+WatchMeCreate cobra
U just told how 2 buy a used car
Now if I could just find a low mileage & clean GT! Everything I find is like 125K+ and they want $6K for it.
Yeah that's way too much! Top price for that mileage is about 5k
Laserred01 where are u from im selling at 2002 GT with 99k miles for 6k cobra boddy kit and 285 in the back 245 front
I'm in Chico, CA. Prob going to put this off for a few months until I decide between another new edge and a '13-'14 V6
what if the lifters knocking should i still buy
I wouldnt unless youre sure it is the lifters
