    Wear headphones! Also, messed up on the power output numbers, the car makes 260hp at 5250RPM and 302 lb⋅ft at 4000RPM.

      Hi, 21 years old v6, driven for the last 10 years in southern Germany. Your review is to the point. I have a manual one, in 225.40.18s, deleted back seats, y pipe, no sway bar to the rear. No heating isses. Not really slow compared to the 4 cilinders of Germany, but the bumpy ride in the Autobahn is really annoying. I am searching ways to make it smooth and upgrade internal door panels that are just unacceptable.

      @@iliaskalomoiris1094 unfortunately it's never going to be a Lexus but surprisingly progressive rate lowering springs seem to ride smoother than the factory springs. You might want to try those, also you could try adjustable shocks and struts.

    • @iliaskalomoiris1094
      @iliaskalomoiris1094 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes man, i know, i didnt buy itvfor lexus. I installed Monroe struts and removed some eibach springs that were out if spec to install other Germans, promising to be softer. I have no body roll and super steering wheel feedback for a v6. I sprayed all pulleys with silicone spray before an interstate ride and drove somehow smoother. The motor is somehow complaining. The German autobahn on average is better quality than the us interstate, so difficult to explain to you the road feedback I get. All for all, I drive an exotic car for European standards with a fraction of the cost.
      Ps: next project is to install reverse camera to improve European city parking capability

    When i was in high school, my dad brought me a 2003 mustang GT as my first car and it was a great first car. 260 HP is too little for a V8 engine today but if you just like the sound of the V8 but not an absolute maniac or crazy racer, this is a perfect car to cruise around in. People who bash this car talking about how slow it is are those who like to participate in these illegal street races and who likes to drive fast 💨.

    Man Brother, you sound like a younger guy, Im 48 and it was refreshing to hear a younger guy giving out spot on info!! I agree 100% on all points. Im so tired of crap info being put out about these cars. These guys always bagging on these engines being weak etc. They make great power for the time and ultra reliable, durable and the sound, cant be matched! Power is easily added with small turbo and some tuning, and I mean some serious power!Your getting in the mile range where you can start updating front end parts etc to get back its new handling feel. The long time warmup is common we have 3 and they are all the same. Its easy nowadays to talk smack about speed when young guys go out and take out 600+ dollar car note and then brag how they can smoke you. Its another thing to buy a 20 year old car with cash and learn how to turn a wrench and improve on something with your own two hands. The process is rewarding and most dont get that. It also takes some skill to drive one of these efficiently. I have a near stock 01 Bullitt that puts out 300 at the crank, my Bullitt is a handful to keep on the road even with 315s at the rear. Ive driven numerous new vehicles and they are awesome but extremely tame even with big horsepower. Driving these old manual stangs is a blast! Go for the 410 gears, I have them in mine and they are fantastic! Thumbs up on the vid👍👍

    • @carsandhobbies
      @carsandhobbies  3 ปีที่แล้ว +11

      Yessir absolutely! For $5000 I was able to get a v8, manual transmission and a great looking car with less than 100k to go with it, you cant get better that! Yeah you're definitely right about the suspension so far I've replaced all for shocks and struts, ball joints, rear upper control arms and diff bushings and added lowering springs! I love this car so much and lucky I've been able to do all the work myself!

      @ 2RCProductions: Re: "Ive driven numerous new vehicles and they are awesome but extremely tame even with big horsepower. Driving these old manual stangs is a blast!"
      Right on, brother! I now own a 2013 Mustang GT 5.0L Coyote motor, which is an absolute beast - but I still sometimes miss my 1996 Mustang GT 4.6L 2V hardtop. Why? For many of the reasons you mention. Those cars are not fast by today's standards, but you really feel and enjoy the experience of driving them. They sound great. Many times over the life of my Mustang - which had after-market Flowmasters on it and was otherwise bone-stock - I had guys like Corvette owners telling me how great my car sounded. I am currently hunting for a decent-quality 1998 Cobra, which I intend to super-charge. The SN95s are smaller and lighter than the current Mustangs, which is one reason why they are starting to get more-popular as project cars for building up big power. They work great for Coyote swaps, too. About the only downside to the non-Cobra 03-04s - which had IRS - is the solid rear axle, which means you'll feel every bump in the road. Second your point about the reliability of the modular 4.6L V-8s. Mine ran like a top and it had 240,000 miles on it when I finally had to part ways with it because of some under-body rust. All in all, it was a damned fun car, and economical to own, too, which I why I drove it for so long.

    • @2RCPRODUCTIONS
      @2RCPRODUCTIONS 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      @@GeorgiaBoy1961 Cool back story Man!! That 13 is an awesome car and last of the old school imo. I had a 98 cobra for a short time, was a fantastic car. Yeah agree the sn 95 stangs sure arent smooth and the seats suck. My Bullitt rides even rougher with the spring rates and being lowered from the factory. The Bullitt, mach 1 and Cobra share the same seat frames and padding and they are amazing! Good luck on the hunt, grab one asap they are getting tough to find as Im sure you know👍. Btw getting a complement from a vette guy is a monumental accomplishment 😂😂!

(I decided back then, that if I had to have a long commute, I was gonna have fun doing so!!) Trying to keep her as stock as possible, but I just bought the Ford Racing aluminum clutch quadrant & firewall adjuster that I will be putting in soon for better reliability over the stock plastic unit. I'd be interested in hearing from others at which point they've put in new timing chains? I grew up as a GM guy and of course I wanted the Trans -Am and the Z-28 but man let me tell you when I heard Texas Dept. of Safety had purchased Mustangs in the early 80's as a pursuit vehicle I just fell in love with the Mustang at that point. The models that D.P.S. were buying were of course the early 80's models that were of course light in the rear along with an added police package made those cars eye blinking fast. For me the Mustang V-8 is simply my Exotic Beauty and yes there are other vehicles that have more speed, power, beauty and a few other things but the sound that she roars out of her tailpipes are hypnotic to say the least and I will choose her over any other muscle or performance beauty any day.

    Have an 03 gt, patriot ii heads, hotter cams long tube headers, performance throttle body and cold air intake with 4.10 gears.. cobra wheels 295 18s on the back.. what makes the car fun is people pick on them because of there known low power output, this one will hold it's own and then some with the early ls motors. Love the look and sound and it has been very reliable, haven't done anything to it in the twelve years I've owned it. Diablo tuner will let it go to 6350 rpm and it sees that frequently, doesn't seem to care. Most favorite car I've owned and there's been a few.

    As an owner of an '00 GT convertible with the 4R70W automatic: In stock condition it's a slushbox. Put a shift kit in, replace the valve body plate against solenoid warping, J-mod it, get a good torque converter and it's pretty fun (Monster Transmissions has a great semi-stock replacement in the Thor: Odin). They do have a great sound once you get the 20 catalytic converters off it as well, LOL.

Wrong place, wrong time I guess. Me and my best friend both Mustang he had a standard 2000 and I had a 2001 automatic. We can both attest that there is some kind of issue that causes them to slide or spin on turns. Don't know if it's an issue with the traction control or what but they feel kind've dangerous in our opinion compared to other cars. I rolled mine and totalled it the airbags didn't eject and I was actually untouched. Not a scratch or bruise but the roof did come down on my shoulders and gave me issues but I'm grateful for the way it turned out.

      Those Camaros and Firebirds of that era were very fast. I loved how the Camaros looked, but thanks to being not all that tall - 5'10" - when I sat in the thing, I felt like I was sitting in a bath-tub and trying to drive. I was disappointed, but that's life. The Mustang on the other hand, provided great visibility, and was fun to drive, and they sounded great. What Ford should have done is drop the modular 4.6L Cobra DOHC engine into the GTs, and boost the motor for the Cobras, as they finally did in 2003-2004. Or just bump up displacement as they finally did. I once owned a 1969 Firebird ragtop, and my brother had a nice 1967 Camaro hardtop with a 327 c.i. 4v - so I like GM fine - but man alive, I just can't make friends with the new generation of Camaros, how they look and that same bugaboo - bad visibility. Too bad, because the word is that they are absolute rockets. No matter, I have a very fast 2013 Mustang GT now. But there's definitely something special about how those 4.6L V-8s sounded.....

      Sweet! The 95 definitely has a significant weight advantage, I'd like to see a race like that head to head.

    I've been trying to find one of these on and off over the years and now they are stupid pricy due to Covid. I think the prices will come down by next summer, unfortunately I will likely not need a second vehicle by that point.

      @@xletzyy Heh. Its no biggie. IF one does become available for a decent price and miles, I will get it then, and if one does not, oh well! Its only a car.

    idk if anyones gonna reply to a comment on a ye old vid, but i have a friend who’s going to sell a 03 mustang gt with 160,000 miles on it this summer. however, he’s getting the engined swapped for a v8. i was wondering if that’s maybe a good deal and what problems does this gen have?

      @carsandhobbies  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Is it a V6 that he's putting a V8 in? These cars for the most part are pretty solid, because it has that many miles the entire suspension will probably need to be redone, both my 99 and my 02 needed new ball joints, shocks and I still need new sway bushings. One of the biggest things is to make sure the oil is changed and at the correct level. This goes for pretty much any car, but most of the cases I've seen of broken rod bearings are people running their oil too low. Also idk how many miles the v8 he's putting in has, but it may or may not need timing chain guides, some people need em after 100k, while others never need em. Again it comes down to keeping the oil clean and topped off. There are other minor issues, that some people get but others don't such as coil packs going bad, IAC valve going out etc. However, the vast majority of the parts are expensive and it's a very easy car to work on yourself, one of the easiest "modern" cars imo.

    The 2v 4.6 is the best sounding v-8 in all of American muscle v-8s follow by the 3v 4.6 in my honest opinion

    I just bought a 2001 mustang six cylinder five speed mustang, I've looked for TWO YEARS for an eight cylinder 5 speed, but prices are outrageous! It has 151,000 miles on it, it's really straight, no rust but it just threw the "check engine" light. Any ideas to what it could be? It idles kinda high too.

      Congrats on your purchase! Yeah the v8's are going up in price and the pandemic hasn't helped as there are less for sale. Not sure what the CEL could be for but any local autoparts store could tell you for free.
