  • In this half of California's climate forecast we're looking at the power & water outlook, with attention to reservoirs, and then at drought & heat relationships, with historical and projected data. Good maps throughout for local information.

In all my years of perusing TH-cam, I've never felt particularly compelled to leave a comment on any video - until now. Thank you so, so much for this vitally important data interpretation work that you're doing and sharing in order to help people become more resilient in the precarious years to come. I can't believe that you currently have less than 300 views on this video, and I'm sending the link to all my family and friends in the Los Angeles area so that they can better understand what to prepare for in the not-too-distant future. Again, thank you so much.

I really appreciate your sharing the video- with a new channel like this, it makes a huge difference.
This information about our future is publicly funded but almost no money or energy has been put into making it accessible. I hope I can help change that.

Thank you so much. Exactly what I was looking for, and I sent it to my city council member. Hope you can do a current report as this was as of a year ago. So glad you are doing this work!

@jazziejim I'm so glad it was helpful! I'll be putting out updated state-level forecasts this winter

You're so good! I'm in Lompoc just north of Pt. Conception so I'm researching whether and/or how long to stay, which I'd like to do since I surf and have put a lot of work into my house. Native, drought tolerant landscape with lots of pollinators! The city is in a utility co-op and disincentivizes going solar since they charge for any electricity I use, even if I generate it from my own panels. I complained at the city council meeting and was told they have a rate study that will be done in a year and they will look at it after that. So probably going off grid, water capture, gardening, establish a local climate safe community, or move possibly to Wisconsin. Your info, as I said, is so valuable to me and your attitude has given me hope. Thanks again!@@AmericanResiliency

I'd love to see a 2024 updated California assessment considering how climate change seems to be making California much wetter and greener.
Lake Mead for instance is way more full than 2022 now

We've been in El Nino pattern since 2021 which is often wetter in the winter (and warmer in summer). We're now headed toward La Nina. These are natural *weather* cycles but the baseline temperatures (climate) are increasing.

@@keithredfield991 My understanding is that going forward the El niño cycles are anticipated to strengthen and la niña cycles weaken as baseline heat continues to climb. Based on your own point does this not lead to California continuing to get wetter Winters and thus not the droughts people keep expecting?

@@nwlinkvxd If we could store it, you're probably right. But we mostly rely on snowpack for storage. Probably not a good bet. And while some storage projects are on the way..mousenuts in scale

You should add your credentials to your website

Thank you for pointing that out, I really should! For anyone reading this who wonders about my credentials, my name is Emily Schoerning. I am an expert in science education. My research specialty is communicating with the public. I have published extensively on this- you can see my papers if you search my name in Google Scholar. I did my postdoc at the University of Iowa, and then worked for the National Center for Science Education as the Director of Research and Community Organizing. In that position, I am grateful to have been able research a great deal more about communicating about climate change with general audiences. American Resiliency is a nonprofit I founded and legally established in the state of Iowa in 2021.
