I work overnight security at a place where no one’s goes and this steam deck makes my 12 hour shifts a lot easier. That was my main reason for buying this and so far my only thing is I wish the battery life was longer it only lasts around 3-4 hours but I think it’s worth it. Decided to finish Skyrim for the first time and will definitely play spider man since I’ve been an Xbox player without access to Spider-Man games
Do not forget that the Deck is also a fully functional Linux Computer, on top of being a console. Also, unlike with other consoles, you still have the benefit of games being optimized for Steam Deck hardware, but you have fully functional mod support with your games, which is huge! In other words, its the best of both worlds. Recently i went to Finland for 2 months, and I did not miss either my Desktop Computer, nor my Ps4, cause essentially I got both devices with me in the Steam Deck. Its freeing. PS: Wrote this on my Steam Deck in desktop mode, while having it attached to my Television, sitting in my Armchair. It does not get more cosy than this.
At the risk of sounding like a fanboy, the Steam Deck is the handheld I always wished I could have had growing up. The fact that it's an emulation powerhouse makes it even better. Having not only my entire Steam library available in a portable form, but also my entire retro games library from the SNES up to the PS2 and Wii is absolute bliss.
So I could have all of the old super mario games, all the way to new super mario bros wii? Or even the spongebob squarepants movie game (ps2)? This sounds like a dream come true
I travel 4-6 months out of the year as part of a production team. This season, my hotel roommates have been loving my Steam Deck in our rooms. Portably sharing my Midnight Suns experience has been awesome!
I feel like the steam deck is the perfect companion device for PC gamers for all the reasons you mentioned. If you want one device to do absolutely everything and it has to be portable, or the price really doesn’t matter at all, the 6800U handhelds are probably worth looking at. For everyone else it’s hard to look past the steam deck it really is.
@@mackw919 Vita failed, PSP failed, Switch got outclassed and is now two generations behind, and this is Sony and Nintendo we're talking about failing miserably in the handheld department, with Xbox not even trying It took Steams success to get all these other companies to invest in the first place
Another under talked about advantage of the steam deck is the expansion of your steam library since the console only uses steam every game you purchase on the deck will be available on your pc too. That as well as you find games you never would expect to play you will find indie games that run better and look better on deck that you never thought about and those games will be available on your pc as well.
A lot of people already own Steam games on PC, plus you can run your old games from CD/DVD and just copy installer to SD card, may not work with all games and some could require NoCdCrack.
The deck has to be the best tech device I bought in a long time. I used to game on the ayaneo 2021 at work when things were quiet. But since I got the steam deck all that has changed. Everything about it is great. I've slapped a skin on it, the gyroscope is perfect for fps games, tweaking the settings for the best performance. I just love this thing. And as you mentioned, the prices for games are another selling point. Oh, and you look like Joel Osteen if he were an actual cool person.
I have wanted a steam deck since day one. But I was skeptical of whether Valve would abandon it. I had a preorder for a base-model steam deck. But I ended up buying my first-ever desktop gaming pc instead. But now that I am really into PC gaming, I want a steam deck as a companion device for my desktop PC. I'm really glad it turned out that it's such a good product, and I can't wait to get my hands on one!
How come my story goes exactly the same as yours? Except I stupidly bought the middle model. Waste of money coz even games on SD the performance is good.
Valve has an amazing history of supporting it's hardware. Everything from the steam link, to the steam controller has been supported by valve long after theyve stopped selling them.
I love my Steam Deck, especially for the price. I travel a lot and this things is awesome to have on the road and makes a flight go by pretty quick. I do wish the battery lasted longer but I looked ways to extend it. I also have a crazy good gaming PC but still find my self siting on my couch playing this for some reason haha. If your on the fence of getting one please just buy it you wont regret it.
The reason behind the SD success I think is because it's a console for PC games, meaning it's a dedicated machine just for games you can do other hings on it ofc but primarily gaming. One thing I love about the SD is the sleep mode, being able to stop and resume game whenever made a huge difference in my gaming both on consoles and the SD, not having to wonder what to play, not having to deal with sometimes extensive loading screens, menus just pick up and play. Now obviously you can put PCs to sleep as well but it's not as convenient since for once people uses PCs for work and other things so having a game running in the background would be inconvenient.
I LOVE my steam deck. I love everything about it! The fact that it has the joysticks level, the dpad and buttons in a great place, the color, the feel. It is so amazing. I dreamed of one of these devices when I first saw a Gameboy and PSP. It is amazing! I only have complaints for non-optimized games like most AAA titles, but the deck itself is amazing. I bought this because my gaming PC was crapping out and I don't have much time at home, so, the steam deck was such a lifesaver. I really hope they come out with some more options that have a better powerhouse to run games like you could with a hoss PC.
Well said! Portability is a big deal. Because of this I have "redicoved" games in my Steam library that I have owned but never played. Steam hit it out of the park with the Steam Deck. I just got mine today from the Steam Summer Sale with the official dock and I was able to get a 1 TB SanDisk Extreme Micro SD car for under $100 from Amazon Prime Day sale and I am set. Combined with some much needed time off from work, my summer is going to be set. Thanks for the video.
I just bought one solely for the fact that it reminded me of when i was little and my dad would bring my huge bag of gameboy games with us everywhere me and him went, and thats reason enough for me honestly
I really appreciate the callout, and even showing an example of the "bringing it to a friends house" scenario. After the initial "ohs and awhs" I didn't use my deck much for a couple weeks, that is until I thought to bring it to my friends house and saw how easy it was to hook it up to a tv with 4 wireless controllers and play so many great couch co-op games, all without the bulk of a console or laptop. Completely underrated use-case! Now I take it everywhere just incase and play in bed a lot more lol. Another key thing is for whatever reason, having the steam deck makes me want to and actually go back and play through my catalog of barely touched singled player games. Coming from someone who for years only competitive multiplayer games have kept my attention.
About a month or so ago I drove halfway across the country to help my little brother move. Initially I was going to just bring my iPad but at the last minute decided to bring both Steam Decks because I was going to meet a buddy at a hotel for a night along the way and figured it would be something to do other than going out and having a drink. I barely limped into my buddies town because my transfer case on my truck decided it didn't need no stinkin' fluid and found myself in a hotel for a week. The Steam Decks were clutch. My buddy hung out with me at the hotel mostly when he wasn't working and we probably put 60 hours on Elden Ring together because I bought it for him for being such a huge help so far away from home. I have two Steam Decks because I bought them for my two oldest sons last Christmas but they generally prefer to play their Switch/Xbox instead.
@@apersonontheinternet8006 That's a great story of the deck coming in clutch, an iPad or switch definitely would not have given yall that same experience! Just curious you think the kids prefer the switch because of the games? The xbox makes sense too be fair being a home console
Nice review. You pointed out something that doesn’t get covered enough and that’s streaming from your gaming pc to the deck. For some reason this feature works better than streaming from your pc to, say.. an iPad. It has lower latency. Not sure if it’s a steam/steam deck optimization at play. Also longer battery life for sure since all the processing is offloaded. At 1280x800 I can fully max out the graphics quality from my pc as well as save space locally on steam deck.
I was thinking about getting one so I can play on my TV. That way I can enjoy my gaming PC that's in my cave and hang out with the wife and kids in the livung room. Will it work if I wanted to stream from my PC to the deck which is connected to a TV in another room? That's honestly like 90% of the reason I want one
@@teedteed9130 This will stream normally from your pc and have it connected to your pc in another room. It’s like having a mobile console that can extend to any tv from another pc. Of course you’ll lose some graphics quality but hey, it’s still awesome.
@@teedteed9130 Look into Sunshine + Moonlight. It's what I'm using to stream from my gaming pc to my tv. Moonlight works on basically any device and it's all open-source (and free).
Just the fact that the Steam sales can’t be beat is one of the main reasons I’m loving the deck… games like Witcher 3, resident evil remakes, Skyrim all for under 10$ yea the sales are insane 😎
The Steam deck is what I’ve been waiting for. The biggest reason is I’m a parent and the kid is watching TV at night. I’m a big Nintendo guy and play my switch on the couch while in the room with my family. I’m getting a Steam deck to play Spider-Man, Red Dead, God or War and all the other games Nintendo doesn’t support…on my couch.
I don't have kids but I bought mine because I can still be with my wife when we are just wanting to chill and I dont hog up a TV or isolate alone in a room with a TV. It fixes all the issues. Even a laptop makes it difficult to be together even when in the same room. Also why I loved the freak out of my switch. This thing just blows the switch off the planet. I mean c'mon Nintendo has to be a bit nervous the deck is stealing about every gamer over age 13 once this thing fully elvolves. I have not one complaint with my deck. Meh should of given me longer power cord to make up for the marriage they knew I'd have with my wall.
@@amit_patel654he only switch games really worth emulating are switch exclusives (mario odyssey, kirby forgotten lands), which don’t run well wii u emulation has been good though
@@imstupidbut that's what I mean, for the exclusives. I've seen the new Metroid Prime Remaster run well in docked mode. The Switch emulators are always getting updated, so I'm sure it'll run better in the future.
I've been seriously contemplating on getting one and have recently decided to purchase one for my 40th birthday this September. Especially now after watching your vid... thank you for inspiring me more to get one 👊🏻
You literally describe how i use my steam deck and all my use cases. I have an Xbox series x and gaming PC, switch and PS5 but I've been gravitating more to the steam deck bc i like being on the couch with the family. I also work from home and sometimes i don't feel like staying at my desk where my Xbox and gaming PC are so this flexibility is awesome. I remote in to my Xbox, PS5 and PC all the time. I still use the switch just not as much bc of the type of games I'm currently playing. Happy gaming!
being able to pick up where i was at on the pc is incredible. Also being about to emulate adds a whole new dynamic. cheapest way to get into pc gaming for sure.
8:01 got me excited, you can play online on steam for free? this is a game changer! I’ve been a console gamer for years and was bummed after ps3 was the last console to play online for free. This may be old news to some, but for me…I’m new to the PC experience, and I cannot wait to get my steamdeck!
the thing is, if i ever want to play video games im at home and can use my pc. if im out and about i have no interest in playing video games, except maybe a crossword on my phone or something. apart from kids i have never understood anyone that wants a portable gaming console. i still respect what the steam deck has achieved though. its so open and you can tweak it to your hearts content.
Love my deck. If you'd told me 5 years ago that I'd have a handheld console, made by valve, that let me have any game I'd played in the last 30 years in my steam library, I'd never have believed you. In my deck steam library I have the usual suspects like Terraria, Skyrim, RDR2, Subnautica, Valheim, God of War and Stardew Valley. But also things like FF9, Minecraft Java Edition (with modpacks), Elder Scrolls Online, Gran Tourismo 3 A-Spec and Tony Hawks Pro Skater 3. Crazy.
Don't wanna sound corny. The Deck is my escape from the world right now. I get to play awesome games and it totally takes me away ... Thank you Valve !
Just purchased one with the sale they have going on right now! I’m happy I can actually get one now, six months ago I was broke! 😂 I got a new job and can now actually afford one with no hit to my wallet. Fells good man!
Got it very recently and testing different stuff. The most amusing thing to me is pretty much full customisation of controls. Aside from playable experience for more demanding titles, I found Deck good for some older games that may refuse to work on high end modern setups. So far it does perfectly well with Disciples 2 and Hitman Contracts but completely gives up on Thief Gold (unresponsive and lagging menu). I'd say the battery is probably Deck's weakest point but you can tinker with GPU clock, fps caps, screen refresh rate and brightness to extend battery life. Overall, while I didn't need it in my life, I wanted it and I do not regret buying the most expensive variant.
Battery life will get better and better for titles from 2000 to 2022, as the compatibility layers all get optimized until there is almost no overhead. Also the GPU drivers are still adjusting to the hardware generation from 2020 and will squeeze out further 10% performance and a bit more efficiency, all benefiting the battery before there is an OLED version or newer hardware with more performance per Watt.
Make sure you get CryoUtilities if you don't have it already, it's a must for steam deck owners, and increase your frame buffer size in bios to 4g. You will get quite a bit more performance out of the steam deck for more demanding games.
I'm holding off for a Steam Deck 2 with hopefully an OLED screen and better battery life. That or to see what Ayaneo and GPD learn from this past year and improve with their systems.
I was gonna do the same, but it's only a year old so I can't imagine they'll make a second one anytime soon, so I bit the bullet and got it. If I like it, I'll probably get the second too
@@amit_patel654 it depends on what type of smartphone you buy if you buy a phone at the price range of 300$ or more in 2023 than it will play any game. I just was doing a research on the latest 2023 phones. There are plenty of smart phones dedicated to gaming. The screen refresh rate 60 pales to comparison of most top smartphones plus some smartphone are offering 8K.
As a switch fiend, it’s honestly so cool to see PC gamers who aren’t necessarily big Nintendo fans finally get to enjoy the portability we’ve all been talking about since the switch came out. I feel like PC gamers can now understand why people love the switch so much, even if it doesn’t have all the same perks as the steam deck.
@@willcooper8028’s not a troll, it’s facts. Nintendo games work right out of the box. No need to mess with a config file or check settings or check drivers. And the Nintendo OS is 100% stable. But you are right. PC fans now understand why the Nintendo Switch is the third best selling console of all time. The Switch is just too good.
@@alexmendez3681 yeah I mean I agree with you about the dad of use of the switch, it’s the number two reason I’ll take it over a steamdeck (number 1 reason being Nintendo games) but let’s drop the “___ is for people w no family or friends” rhetoric

👏👏 The success and recognition that the Steam Deck is receiving is truly well-deserved. It's fantastic to see such an innovative device cater to both PC and console gamers alike. 🤩🎉
The ONLY thing I hate about the steam deck is the battery life. If this is going to really be used as a portable gaming device for you (I play at home with it plugged into a charger when I don’t want to sit at my desk) then I’d suggest buying a battery pack that’s powerful enough
This isnt Valve's issue - its x86 CPU issue. The problem is that a portable computer (because that what this is) needs a big battery, but you have space constraints. Then you have x86 CPU in it as the games you intend to play with it are written for - those are power hungry and hot , that means more power drain due to cooling. This is why things like Nintendo switch work as they are ARM based. Dont get me wrong. I really like the Deck and I think its a great first gen unit. However we have to manage our expectations on what can be physically done with x86 platform.
@@mowtow90 But you have a way bigger software catalogue with x86 architecture (vulkan, opengl) then with ARM, which has no API that would even work with all ARM type processors.
@@Cyanwasserstoff Exactly , this is the main problem. This is why powerfull ARM cpus like the Apple M series cant game. Apple's Roseta translation layer doesnt work. There is fundemantle difference in the instruction set to the CPU between x86 and ARM which is the problem. The Steam deck is bound to x86 because its ment to intigrate the Steam library which is 99% full with x86 based games. People just need to manage their expectations. Valve my improove on the battery and cooling with Deck 2 but it will never be something like 7-8h gaming. Its just not possible to fit a battery like that in hand held. Even x86 gaming laptops cant pull it off.
@@Aethelbeorn I like it, it's definitely a lot nicer then the Nintendo switch. But it's not perfect. Most games with an anti-cheat don't play on the deck. Such as all of the recent COD's and Battlefield 2042. Yes you can dual boot with windows, but I just find that annoying. Otherwise my only other complaint would be how long my fan is. Game such as Battlefield 5, Ready or Not, RDR2, all run very hot and loud. Other than those 2 things I've really enjoyed my steam deck. I'm glad I got the 512gb over anything else. And now of course one month after getting my steam deck they have OLED models out LOL.
Your video is the latest in a long string I've watched, and I cannot WAIT to buy one. Should have room in the budget in the next few months, so hopefully by summer! My biggest reasons: 1. Couch and pick-up-and-play gaming is way more entertaining than I would have imagined, especially indie games, which my Swich and retro device have demonstrated to me. 2. Steam prices are far cheaper than Nintendo for most games, especially indies, and having them on Steam means I have multiple ways to play them. I think the Deck is creating a Renaissance in retro, indie and pick-up games. 3. Emulation performance on the Steam Deck is ideal for GC/PS2 level, and it can take the place of my Retroid for those systems, with a way bigger screen and more comfortable experience. 4. In-house streaming has turned out to be a feature I value more than I anticipated, as I've experienced through Steam Link to my Retroid. Although Destiny 2 will not run natively on the deck, I can stream it by wifi from my main PC, which makes the most sense anyway to use my home internet!
It’s my best purchase from 2022. I love this machine, playing d2r, xcloud games, fifa 22 or days gone. This machine is perfect. The controls on desktop mode frustrated me for 10 minutes until I changed them to my likings. If you doubt on buying this i would say, just do it!
I had switch lite and that alone already impressed me so much, the portability as much as the game really amuses me. hades and zelda is my favourite to play. steam deck is the better switch lite and you could connect it to computer and use your steam deck as the controller while your game is displayed to a monitor... definitely something I would buy when they had steam deck 2 (since switch lite is good enough for me atm)
currently own a ps5 for gaming and a mac for college/work. always dreamed of owning a gaming pc but the intitial cost barrier has always kept me away, especially over the last few years. heavily considering the steam deck for emulation, pc/xbox exclusives, and just being able to play games away from my desk. definitely easier to justify $400 than $1000 min. for a decent pc
I'm playing Hogwarts legacy in my hand at 30 frames per second using FSR 2. On a $300 steam deck. Absolutely insane. I have no clue what kind of witchcraft they are going to have to do to get it to run on switch.
@@CRONKTEZno, I’m also playing it with FSR 2 all settings on low, v sync off, uncapped frame rate and I only get 30 FPS. With some noticeable stutters. That being said it’s still playable and I’ve been enjoying my time with it
@@SuperBeasto303 you probably will be able to but right now there is basically zero optimization. id say after the first performance/optimization patch it will run 60fps at low settings
I just bought the Steam Deck yesterday. They had a deal for valve certified refurbished Steam Decks for about $100 off. So, I got their 256 gb one for the extra memory right off the bat. It might be a week until it actually comes in.
still seems a nice to have rather than a must have if you have a gaming laptop. I can do so much more with the laptop (and need it when i travel anyway) and don't have to play on a little screen
I have mine since January 2023, and i did not turn my PC on since. LOVE IT. Just finished games that didn't run on my old pc well. Like Horizon Zero Dawn...i just loved it ! i explored everything and everywhere, spend like 340 hours on the game. Then Witcher also awesome stuff. And now i finished Spider-Man remastered . It's the best thing ever happened to me in regard of pc gaming :D
Much prefer the Logitech G cloud over the steam deck because I just do cloud gaming and it's twice as light as steam deck while having a better and larger screen
sold my steam deck after 3 months of use since I didn't use it enough. It did rekindle my joy for gaming for a bit, but yeah it wasn't really worth it for me. I loved it a lot tho. And I do have my gaming pc and need that beast for PCVR so I couldn't just sell that instead. But I game on my pc even less than I did on my steam deck.
Emudeck, Cryoutilities, Decky Loader, and PowerTools are just a few 3rd party support tools that have surfaced from the community that make my Steam Deck experience Better, more stable, and overall more fun.
I really do love the Deck, but I worry about it's compatibility with multiplayer games-- It seems to be a genuinely fun device to tinker with and have besides a Switch at times, but I am choosing to hold on my purchase. At the moment I just carry my mini pc and portable monitor whenever I travel to places I may end up staying overnight at and such. It pleases me to see the Valve's work doing well though!
The best part is SD can be hooked to any hotel tv with the dock and an HDMI cable. Looks good on bigger screens. You may need to carry a wireless controller though.
The Steam Deck is my backlog gaming machine. It will not run newer games at the highest frame rate or max settings but for 2 or 3+ year old games it runs reasonably well.
I'm gonna say it again because I don't think it was harped on enough, this game is an emulation BEAST. Compared to pretty much everything else out there, the deck blows it out of the water in all areas except size. So not only do you have your massive Steam library that is portable, but virtually every other game that has ever existed.
Black ops 3 has the best zombies in all the call of duty’s so glad to see other people still enjoying it, It was amazing when I got my deck and put black ops 3 on it, hands down worth it just for that
What made the Steam Deck so exciting was, as you said, I was looking into stuff from Aya Neo and GPD for a LONG time before the Steam Deck was even announced and I was super excited about mobile/handheld PC gaming but I couldn't stomach the price. When the Steam Deck was announced and given a price, I was overjoyed even without knowing it's actual performance levels I wanted it just for PC indie games and old titles. Little did I know I'd be playing God of War in the car waiting to pick my fiance up from work it's crazy. And for such an affordable price (compared to alternatives). The other things that excited me was the progress valve made with Linux support and adoption by using SteamOS (cause even if you prefer Windows, it's good if they have competition to push them to make better decisions for the customers), and the fact they could push handheld PC gaming into a more mainstream audience than before. Overall just a very exciting device and it's really the only way I play PC games now.
@@HighKoalaTeaProductions I read, I liked 👍 It's cool to see someone just gushing out on the SD, we're all the same lmao! (Don't mind the kid above, he can't process more than 3 words per 5mins)
Eh, I only use my switch when playing Nintendo IP. I think it makes a lot more sense to compare the steam deck to laptops. Regarding portability, my laptop and a PS5 controller do a great job without buying a steadeck +upgrades and accessories.
Sadly the steam deck isn't available everywhere so my only options were scalpers, package forwarding companies or just buying it inflated in my country. Since I live in the Middle East, I was lucky enough to find that Amazon UAE ships it to my country at a very reasonable price with really cheap shipping so I ended up buying it a month ago and I'm seriously loving this thing it's absolutely everything that I wished for in a portable machine. Since I got my switch years ago I kept wishing 'oh I wish this game or this game is on the switch so I can play it anywhere' plus I'm a lazy person, I dread starting games on my pc because I don't wanna sit down on my desk for hours, now I'm playing more games and more genres thanks to the steam deck!
Battery when it comes to true portability is one of the most important things for me. So I will not get a Steam Deck until they release a model with better battery
DUDE! love the Aqueous open. Seen those guys many a times! Split the Difference FTW!!! Just purchased my 64 gb steam deck after about 2 hours of watching video reviews on what to pick. Much appreciated for the killer reviews!
One very niche positive is that it doesn’t take up as much space. I’m in Singapore and space here is super limited. Having this on my desk mean I remove one bulky item making the room feel bigger.
The Deck is my favourite device this generation. Aside from my gaming laptop, everything else has been collecting dust. I havent touched my ps5 for weeks.
My problem is the steam system....I just don't want to only be able to play steam games. I want epic too, and origin too etc...windows performance is still key to me and I don't think I could pull the trigger on a none windows based device (or any device that at least isn't able to run all games that windows can without much tweaking)
All you have to do is install windows, and dual boot it. It's literally that simple lmao. I have an SD card with windows just for that reason, to natively run anything I want. And there's stuff like lutris and bottles that does epic and blizzard and shit like that anyway if you really don't want windows. It's all dead simple. Kind of a ridiculous reason to write it off, when it's so easy to make happen
My favorite aspect About SteamDeck is that I don't have to buy a single game for it. I already bought all the games I wanted in the past. For $529 and no need to spend the few hundred dollars in new games makes it worth it. You gotta remember when you buy a PS5 you're paying $500 for the console and then spending an extra few hundred dollars in games. Not to mention the online play membership fees. Also the steam deck has the ultimate form of backwards compatibility with the fact that PC games from the 90s can still be played on it. Not to mention the emulation. The steamdeck is really great
I got one for the luls only to be absolutely blown away. I use it more & more every day. It's comfortable, it lasts hours & hours for what I usually play, it fully charges in like an hour or two from empty, having moved my 3ds & ds game backups to it- they play just like old times but better (credit to the talented emulator devs, of course), I can play my own stuff casually now, I can play game AND cuddle with doggie simultaneously, I can just browse, watch, or read in a browser [of my choice], the desktop environment isn't absolutely foreign to my pleb Windows brain, Proton compatibility is simply jaw-dropping, excellent physical serviceability, controller configuration ability, interface is chef's kiss,... + everything Steam already offers on top of that. Valve frankly killed it with the Steam Deck & I eagerly wait to see their next big move. On top of all that, I'm still finding cool stuff I can do with it. For example, one day, I grabbed my yeti mic, a USB-C male to USB-A female adapter, the deck, and a few socks [to mitigate general wind noise] on the way to the range to test the feasibility of sampling weapon sounds with the setup & it worked better than I imagined. So now I can write it off lmao /s
This is great for PC gamers, but to be honest this is not recommended for console gamers who doesn't like tinkering much and prefer to play games on the get go. Also no physical games means you also have to spend a lot for storage. So yeah Great for PC gamers, but for console owners who already have like the ps4 and above this is good for handheld and nothing much else lol.
My current PC is a laptop so I bought the Steam Deck thinking I might have limited use for it but could sell it for more than I payed if I didn’t like it. 6 months later and it’s still not for sale it’s one of my favourite gaming devices of all time and is a welcome affordable entry into PC gaming.
I have much more fun on the switch, as a portable device. Problem for me with the steam deck is it's just pc games essentially. Nothing is out on PC where I will be playing it on the go. The switch has so many titles such as Zelda, Mario, do key Kong, Kirby, xenoblades, fire emblem engage, and the list goes on. Steam deck for me anyway is just boring. And while it can emulate things, allot of the games run terrible, and only certain ones run ok. With that said it's just more integrated with the switch. And on switch I can play multiplayer on those old games. I play my PC games on PC. Steam deck is just boring.
I think the steam deck is very cool and the portability looks amazing but now I need a computer because in the end on the steam deck you can't edit or use blender stuff like that but someday when I have money left over I'll look into getting one.
Summer sale came, and I finally ordered the mid tier model. I'm so excited to get going on this thing! My steam backlog is enormous, so I will finally have a way to play without being stuck at my desk.
My issues with the steam deck 1. The design I'm just not a fan it looks Gen 1 as hell definitely needs improvement 2. The bezels look the switch also has big ugly bezels but the newer models correct this but this device came our 4 years after the switch there's absolutely no excuse for those 2013 bezels I just saw the ayo neo 2 and it looks absolutely fantastic but it's biggest downfall is the price I can't wait for the steam deck version 2 or 3 hopefully by then we will see some major improvements
I would definitely love to have a steam deck, however I've been waiting for it to basically meet its 8th generation version, right now it's still in the stages of 1.0 with updates, which is great I love watching how it's advances itself further, but I'm looking for more forward advancement, and I'm just waiting until the 8th generation version of the steam deck, because I want something more than just what it is currently, although I will admit it's really good especially for the price, but there's a few little hiccups here and there that I would personally hold over and it's operation in order for me to actually make and take the effort to actually get one. It's obvious to everybody that the battery technology is still not quite there, but that's not necessarily steams fault, we need better batteries for everything, and the steam deck does really well with optimizing the games that we play in order to boost the graphics ordowngrade the graphics in order for the game to play longer and smoother, but because I want this to essentially replace my gaming tower PC, I want it to be just as good if not better than what I currently have. And I believe with time and a lot of advancements of people that keep supporting these things, it will eventually get to that generation, because people love gaming and if they don't get to play the games they want to play the way they want to play them, that totally sucks and this is the first time in nearly three decades the PCS have been a thing, I guess maybe it's been four decades got the 80s through the 2023 era of gaming, but people of one of the game since the eighties on a portable device instead of just a PC. But I realize this means that we have to wait for other technologies to improve like for example battery technology, and once battery technology improves enough, it should eventually get past those hurdles so that we can have a really good system, I mean it's good now, but I do expect a little bit more which I believe will happen as time goes on.
The Steam Deck is the first time I ever did PC gaming. I was always a console guy. Now I have a full laptop with 16gb ram (about to upgrade to 32 in maybe 3 weeks) to handle w.e the Deck can’t handle. My PS5 literally caught dust 🚮 and my Series S is only used for streaming movies and shows.
I travel for work. 7 days on 7 days off away from home. I stay in a hotel when working. This is everything I ever wanted. I splurged and went for the 500gb version. I also seem to have a lot of free time at work so I use it while working. This thing is sick. I always carried my ps4 everywhere but hated carrying it everywhere and setting it up and just stopped using it until I bought the steam deck. 10/10
I just wish it were smaller, the Switch and Switch Lite made us forget how small handhelds should be. Back in the day the Vita was considered pretty large and the Steam Deck dwarfs the regular Switch model. It's actually the only thing keeping me from getting one.
Give it a few weeks and the excitement of it will wear off. I had the 512gb version and the one who used it most was my 7 yo sister cause she liked left 4 dead. Got rid of it about a month ago and dont miss it as i ended up buying a razer kishi and upgrading my desktop. I used the steam deck mayne 2 times outside of my house but it was so big and expensive that i didnt feel comfortable taking it out
@@sam.alexander.reviews you're a youtuber and you found out recently that steam deck videos are a super easy way to get views. Of course you're gonna be happy with the steam deck. For average people who are not planning to profit from ad revenue it is not exactly a similar experience. Plus i got a kiski for$20 and have used it far more so far than the steam deck cause the steam deck was huge and pretty heavy for a "portable console". Maybe I'll buy one again when i find one for $200 used
As someone who actually plays steam deck during commuting public transport every day (something that americans are unable to experience) I'd argue the "portability" of this device. I've been playing handhelds on the go on the train/bus since the first game boy. But steam deck is too bulky to get out of your bag and put it back while you try to unzip and zip the bag with one hand, holding the deck. I had to abandon carrying the case and just tend to shove it as is in the bag, otherwise getting it out of the case every time I'd be adding more to the possibility of dropping it. I have a case with a strap and even then I'm not feeling safe holding it. It gets worse when you have to make a transit to another station which usually takes around 5 minutes and you can't shove steam deck quickly into your pocket like you could do with psvita and 3ds. There's also a whole layer of other problems like not being able to run your games without internet, or steam being stubborn with syncing cloud saves so when you're far from home and want to play some game only to realize it's saves are out of sync. I had to set up remote desktop to home pc so I could fix these things on the go. Yes, you could share the internet using phone hotspot but it will quickly start downloading tons of other things like shader packs for other games and such, stealing your monthly mobile bandwidth. And even then steam deck is very stubborn with wifi connections and often says "steam servers unreachable" which can only be fixed with a reboot. There are many many annoying things like this through the whole experience. I own steam deck since December and already had many times when I ended up fixing it trying to run the damn game w during my whole ride to the destination without have any time left to actually play it. The steam UI is very lag during gameplay and sometimes deck just freezes or reboots out of nowhere with "verifying integrity" on reboot. Your typical pc master race experience... I got the 512GB version which was almost $800 here and already the same week I got it I was regretting it thinking I should have added another couple hundreds and got gpd win 4 instead. Steam deck is good only for those instances when you can actually sit for an hour or two somewhere without any distractions like on a plane. And if you play it at home and have a good pc, please for the love of dog, play your games via Moonlight at the performance your pc can handle, not using native steam deck hardware which is pretty weak. You have to make a lot of sacrifice just to be able to run most games at 40fps natively on steam deck. 540p with everything on low and even with FSR enabled it looks like a miserable experience.
I agree with you in every way. I suspected the portability would matter to me, I really liked using steam link on my phone for the Final Fantasy Remasters, but the steam deck has done nothing but blow me away.
It's not only about value, but steam deck has: a VRR display, combo: trackpad/gyro with steam input, and the freedom and customization potential of the GNU/Linux ecosystem. Steam deck wins hands down with these features.

That was my main reason for buying this and so far my only thing is I wish the battery life was longer it only lasts around 3-4 hours but I think it’s worth it. Decided to finish Skyrim for the first time and will definitely play spider man since I’ve been an Xbox player without access to Spider-Man games
Get baseus power bank, the 65 watt variant and enjoy.

Valve knocked it out of the park with this one. this is the most innovative creation in the PC gaming space of the last 20 years, easy. I love mine.
I'm really glad it turned out that it's such a good product, and I can't wait to get my hands on one!
judging by its success, i think valve will stick with it.
How come my story goes exactly the same as yours? Except I stupidly bought the middle model. Waste of money coz even games on SD the performance is good.
Why dont you wait for the Steam Deck 2? This is the first iteration
Valve has an amazing history of supporting it's hardware. Everything from the steam link, to the steam controller has been supported by valve long after theyve stopped selling them.
Just wait 8 years
I love my Steam Deck, especially for the price.
Exactly. The worst thing about PC gaming, is literally owning, using, and maintaining a Windows computer.
Yes the sleep mode is amazing. Its actually what makes the switch good
Its kinda funny how this "console for PC games" idea flopped with the original Steam Machines, but is a gigantic success with the Steam Deck.
Coming from someone who for years only competitive multiplayer games have kept my attention.
right????? thats what i started doing too!
At 1280x800 I can fully max out the graphics quality from my pc as well as save space locally on steam deck.
yessssss, clearly optimized
I was thinking about getting one so I can play on my TV. That way I can enjoy my gaming PC that's in my cave and hang out with the wife and kids in the livung room. Will it work if I wanted to stream from my PC to the deck which is connected to a TV in another room? That's honestly like 90% of the reason I want one
@@teedteed9130 This will stream normally from your pc and have it connected to your pc in another room. It’s like having a mobile console that can extend to any tv from another pc. Of course you’ll lose some graphics quality but hey, it’s still awesome.

I've heard so much good stuff about this that I'm convinced to get one of my own honestly
Hell, you can even emulate Switch on there if you want to. It's not perfect but pretty close. 🙂

That would be a long wait as They are not gonna update it any time soon and new APU is coming out

The ONLY thing I hate about the steam deck is the battery life. If this is going to really be used as a portable gaming device for you (I play at home with it plugged into a charger when I don’t want to sit at my desk) then I’d suggest buying a battery pack that’s powerful enough
yeah i totally agree, hopeful the steam deck 2 will improve on battery
Collecting some old low end games and emulating old console games can stretch the battery life decently
Just got my deck today! So stoked!
How do you feel about it?
My biggest reasons:
Although Destiny 2 will not run natively on the deck, I can stream it by wifi from my main PC, which makes the most sense anyway to use my home internet!
do it up!
At this point Bungie just needs to natively support Linux. I'm really not sure what's taking them so long
It’s my best purchase from 2022. I love this machine, playing d2r, xcloud games, fifa 22 or days gone. This machine is perfect.
The controls on desktop mode frustrated me for 10 minutes until I changed them to my likings.
If you doubt on buying this i would say, just do it!
I had my steam deck for a month and then sold it. Yeah, it's cool, but if you're not travelling a lot it isn't worth it
yeah fair enough!
just from a hardware perspective, this is a huge bang for your buck alone
I have no clue what kind of witchcraft they are going to have to do to get it to run on switch.
are you able to run it at 60fps?
@@CRONKTEZno, I’m also playing it with FSR 2 all settings on low, v sync off, uncapped frame rate and I only get 30 FPS. With some noticeable stutters.
That being said it’s still playable and I’ve been enjoying my time with it
@@glasspretender that’s sad I thought you would play it in medium settings
@@SuperBeasto303 you probably will be able to but right now there is basically zero optimization.
id say after the first performance/optimization patch it will run 60fps at low settings
its called AMD APU. They somehow figured out to to crank graphics and performance on the cheap.
I would get a Steam deck, but I'm already stumped by what I have to finish on Switch, Xbox Series, and PS4 (mostly Switch though).
Solid video dude, I bought my steam deck a few days ago and this made me anticipate it's arrival even more 😬
you're gonna love it
Much prefer the Logitech G cloud over the steam deck because I just do cloud gaming and it's twice as light as steam deck while having a better and larger screen
Mine is getting delivered tommorow! I am really excited to test this out.
Have fun!
do yourself a favor and buy yourself a pack of tempered glass screen protectors
sold my steam deck after 3 months of use since I didn't use it enough.
What game is an emulation BEAST?
Onexplayer is better.. Can't wait for the onexplayer 2
it really is
@@patrickkelly6590cant beat the price tho
Steam deck is only $50 more than a OLED Switch
@@patrickkelly6590 it's all about support, I doubt onexplayer company has the same level of support valve offers for the steam deck
Black ops 3 has the best zombies in all the call of duty’s so glad to see other people still enjoying it, It was amazing when I got my deck and put black ops 3 on it, hands down worth it just for that
I love it
What made the Steam Deck so exciting was, as you said, I was looking into stuff from Aya Neo and GPD for a LONG time before the Steam Deck was even announced and I was super excited about mobile/handheld PC gaming but I couldn't stomach the price.
Big wall of text didn't read. Disliked instead. 👎
@@TargetRenegade ok?

It's cool to see someone just gushing out on the SD, we're all the same lmao!
(Don't mind the kid above, he can't process more than 3 words per 5mins)
And this is amazing for installing Jackbox games onto, then just plugging in with a USBC->HDMI cable to a TV.
thats exactly what i do! we play jackbox all the time
Eh, I only use my switch when playing Nintendo IP.
I have a desktop PC in a small house with 3 kids and 3 cats and a wife so yeah this is a very big positive for me!!
Kind of a ridiculous reason to write it off, when it's so easy to make happen
i have epic/GOG games on the deck using stock steamOS, but yeah dual booting into windows is an option for sure
@@taylon5200 I thought a lot of drivers dont work and you have to do various work around? Plus the performance isn't as great
My favorite aspect About SteamDeck is that I don't have to buy a single game for it. The steamdeck is really great
My biggest reason for getting the Steam Deck was my back log on my existing Steam account this thing was a no brainer
yup got all those steam games huh?
Watched this review and im sold. The fact you can wire it up to a tv and play is a huge plus. Thats awesome.
for me the comfort to play is just not there, its a heavy system and the analog sticks are in a weird spot
exactly my point awkward hand positions throughout just saw it at 0:32
I got one for the luls only to be absolutely blown away.
So now I can write it off lmao /s
its such a great device i agree!!...i didnt quite understand that last part haha you did what? with a yeti mic?!
6 months later and it’s still not for sale it’s one of my favourite gaming devices of all time and is a welcome affordable entry into PC gaming.
exactly this
I have much more fun on the switch, as a portable device.
My girlfriend ordered me one today. I am...so...excited!!! This is going to be the longest wait ever to get it!
Kewl ill wait for the steam deck pro or 2
I have a pc,switch,Xbox and still enjoy my deck more.
I think the steam deck is very cool and the portability looks amazing but now I need a computer because in the end on the steam deck you can't edit or use blender stuff like that but someday when I have money left over I'll look into getting one.
yeah blender might not be a great time
Summer sale came, and I finally ordered the mid tier model. I'm so excited to get going on this thing! My steam backlog is enormous, so I will finally have a way to play without being stuck at my desk.
My issues with the steam deck
1. The design I'm just not a fan it looks Gen 1 as hell definitely needs improvement
2. The bezels look the switch also has big ugly bezels but the newer models correct this but this device came our 4 years after the switch there's absolutely no excuse for those 2013 bezels
I just saw the ayo neo 2 and it looks absolutely fantastic but it's biggest downfall is the price I can't wait for the steam deck version 2 or 3 hopefully by then we will see some major improvements
ugh the bezels really do need to be shrunk down, they could fit like 1 inch larger screen in the same size if they did
yup, this is why I love my steam deck. Great video 🤙
Holy balls! people actually read through my entire comment.
I want one pretty bad. I have a desktop, which is great, problem is I travel for work quite often. This would fit into my workflow perfectly.
Reasons to not buy it .
1. It doesn’t have a dock
2. It’s too expansive
3. Half of the games don’t work
I work for a college hockey team and travel a lot. Between flying, 7+ hour bus rides, and hotels having a Steam Deck has been amazing.
perfect traveling companion
Underrated channel amazing production great video!
Much appreciated!
Give it a few weeks and the excitement of it will wear off. I had the 512gb version and the one who used it most was my 7 yo sister cause she liked left 4 dead. Got rid of it about a month ago and dont miss it as i ended up buying a razer kishi and upgrading my desktop. I used the steam deck mayne 2 times outside of my house but it was so big and expensive that i didnt feel comfortable taking it out
i've had it for a few months now!
Valve literally created a market for Linux gaming thanks to this
I agree with you in every way. I suspected the portability would matter to me, I really liked using steam link on my phone for the Final Fantasy Remasters, but the steam deck has done nothing but blow me away.
The word is that steam deck 2 is expected sometime 2023, so going to hold out for that and hope that have made the fan a bit quieter.
It's not only about value, but steam deck has: a VRR display, combo: trackpad/gyro with steam input, and the freedom and customization potential of the GNU/Linux ecosystem. Steam deck wins hands down with these features.
completely agree
