Thanks for the video! @8:12 you mention disabling SMT as well as pinning the GPU to 1000Mhz; should we put these settings back to default when playing our regular Steam games, or can we just leave them as is and not take performance/compatibility hits while playing big new AAA games?

This is a great tutorial for people who want to step up their emulation experience on the Deck, but i hope it doesn't deter off people that aren't comfortable making seemingly "significant" changes to their Deck. I've been emulating everything including the Switch, having done nothing but install and setup EmuDeck, with no other additional changes or mods to the Deck whatsoever and the performance I'm getting is comparable if not identical to the results gotten from this video. Games I often play when emulating Switch: Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Pokemon Legends Arceus, Kirby and the Forgotten Land, Super Mario Odyssey, ACNH and The Legend of Zelda - Link's Awakening (which requires to set gpu accuracy to high in Yuzu to address some graphical glitches).

Dbrand always goes hard! I very recently got my kill switch case replacement.
They included a dock adapter, it makes it so the case can sit in the valve steam deck dock and a USB c extender... The skin's really tempting for me, for the meme!
I keep the frame buffer at 2gb, its lowers the chances that stuttering will happen when expanding its vram.

can say today with the oled deck and latest default version of yuzu, adding these settings improved my performance incredibly! Games I play went from unplayable to 60fps.

I don't remember setting up anything special for Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope but a few weeks ago I remember it working for me with just some stutters when there was heavy animations. If you are interested I can look again on what my settings were.

Great info and very helpful! The only thing now is that I wish there were easier methods/guides showing how to get games working that use Mii's for example Mario Kart. There are a few more steps on how to get games like that working but it can get a little confusing. Also I never got those games to work when using Yuzu from emudeck but did get it working if I installed it standalone. Lastly it would also be nice showing people how to transfer your save data from Switch to yuzu with the included update and dlc files. I am usually grind a lot in games and I don't want to start over just to play the game on my Steam Deck.

Also, at least for Pokemon Scarlet, I use my home PC + Moonlight to get a locked 30fps. Not a perfect, portable solution - but since I'm home most of the time when I play - this works for me, and feels better than switch in my opinion. 6 hours played so far!

Great video! Just wanted to ask how the recommended settings effect regular game performance? If it effects it negatively, is there any 'easy' way to swap between best settings for PC/steam deck games and best settings for (Switch) emulation? At the moment, I'm only willing to modify SMT and GPU hertz as they're quite easy to change. Modifying BIOS files to jump between Witcher 3 and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe doesn't sound too appealing.
SMT and GPU Clock are done in the quick access menu, the only thing that requires changing for all of this in the BIOS is the VRAM setting, which wouldn't* hurt performance any
*at the least it shouldn't, if it does then oh well

11:27 maybe I need to update yuzu, but I’ve tested kirby and the forgotten land only to have severe lighting and texture glitches to the point it looks like a modern game freak game.
Edit: so after updating Emudeck, the game works perfectly, so just a heads up to anyone else having trouble, make sure your app is up to date.
In my Watch Later queue...but Nintendo so also downloaded to make sure I can watch it when my Steam Deck gets here this week.

Once the Nintendo Switch 2 (Super Switch in my preference) releases we’ll have to see if it can 1 up Valve’s Steam Deck in power and performance. It may seem impossible…. But only improbable.

Awesome video! I've tried Zelda BotW on the WiiU emulator for the Steam Deck and it runs perfect! I haven't tried any Yuzu emulation yet. Is there a site that lists Switch games and how well they run on the Steam Deck so I'm not wasting my time?

You should get a little 3D printed Mario hat to put on top of a USB C cable when it's plugged into the deck. So it looks like Mario is controlling the deck like how it works in Mario Odyssey lmao.
EPIC video! Been emulating BOTW on Yuzu, and learned some things here, now it runs 30 FPS mostly locked and looks really good 👍
So if you make those bios changes etc. that you mention in your tutorials and then decide you want to play a regular Steam game, do you have to undo all those changes first? Or doesn't it affect their performance?

I love Decky Loader, but for some reason after a few reboots/updates it disappears and has to be reinstalled. Am i doing something wrong, or thats perfectly normal?
Seeing as how Nintendo Switch Sports and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope are unplayable at the time of this video, how is it like to run Go Vacation and Mario + Rabbids: Kingdom Battle on the Steam Deck through Yuzu?
Next to the Deck, I gotta say, the Switch's screen is still pretty good. That or Valve cheaped out. I always thought the Switch had a nice screen though.
Could you share the Yuzu settings for the games? Do they all have the same setup? There's plenty of options, most important is the resolution scale. Were you playing 1x resolution all the time? For many titles I use x0,75 resolution to make the FPS much better.
What we all really wanna know but can’t yet is will we be able to emulate the new Legend of Zelda game this May.
are you able to get XCOM 2 collection working on yuzu or ryujinx?? for me the expansion one just restarts yuzu every time, and the base game just says i need the update, even when i have it installed to t he nand

Still waiting on ACNH to get some near-native performance on the deck (if it ever does!). Other games are either good enough or have PC equivalents anyway :)
Worth to mention that the Kirby's game has a 60 FPS mod that makes the game work much better.

So I'm just probably going to stick with the light pickup and play games instead of less hassle, there is a bit of tinkering to getting these games to run which I won't have a lot of time for, it's a shame there is no feedback for metroid prime remaster as I wish to try that on the deck

Always keep in mind these are new games on a new system, running on Linux which usually gets less support. emulation on the steam deck is only in its infancy and we're already getting great results, even without hardware upgrades more optimizations and breakthroughs will be found and I wouldn't be surprised if when the dust settles that the steam deck has near full compatibility with switch, ps3, and maybe even Xbox 360 titles. Not to mention that's all on top of thousands of PC games and most ps4 exclusives, I just can't get over how insane the steam deck is in raw number of games it can(or could one day) play on the go
Contrary to general compatibility guidelines, Linux gets much more support than Windows in Console land or emulation land. Most consoles use a Linux or Unix operating system, like the Playstations. Xbox is the exception, of course. They not only support OpenGL/vulcan but generally ONLY target OpenGL/vulcan. The reason being DirectX is microsoft technology, and therefore is Xbox only. On top of this, Linux software is generally very compatible with Arm, while windows is x86 only. This is why you can run Linux on a Raspberry Pi, or your refrigerator, or your console. These conditions mean that console emulation on Linux is superb. Virtually all emulators were Linux software, and have since been ported to Windows.
Linux isn't a new system... and emulators are here since years (maybe before Windows). All consoles but XBox are running on Linux like/ BSD.
The emulation on Steam Deck uses softwares that already exists before the Steam Deck and are not made just for the Steam Deck: Yuzu's first version was released in july 2018 and was already on Linux (written in C++ and QT which is widely used on Linux softwares).

Biggest issue with emulating bayo3 for me is the out of sync cutscene audio. Anyone knows if that was fixed?
well as of right now Bayonetta 3 is very playable on the Steamdeck I'm getting 60fps to 45FPS there's still some shader stutters sadly and se framerate slow downs at certain scenes but most of the time it's smooth

Maybe you have an idea for Diablo 3 game - It works really well but I have often graphic errors, so instead of a lantern I see squares...
Till now I found no solution to get that fixed :/
I used yuzu 1394 and than downloaded version 3501 on my Steam Deck and with both version the same
I tried different settings but... At least it's playable with 60fps :)
The GPU was set to normal, high and extreme...
If Nintendo next system is going to be an outdated system I can not wait for the steam deck slim as I will use it to sail the seven seas and play any title imaginable.
Bayo 3, XBC3, and scarlet and violet are running below the switch native fps but still impressive that now all switch games are playable with the right configs

What settings did you use for ryujinx. I get worse performance by disabling smt on ryujinx works great in yuzu though.
Ryujinx uses proper multithreading, so it runs best with SMT on and seeting the Manual GPU Clock to a different value on a per-game basis. I find that (with Cryoutilities) Ryujinx is just 100% better than Yuzu - runs better, less crashes, boots quicker - the only disadvantage is that it doesn't have as good mod support, and it doesn't support forcing FXAA for games that don't have anti-alising.

Couldn’t get Beyo to work on yuzu. Maybe i missed a good setup video cuz i was getting white glitch of death screen the whole time. RYU plays great for almost all roms i tried ,downside now i have to run ryu vs direct rom and on windows mood or wont run in gaming mode. Worth it tho for the performance
Bayo works using the setup I used here. GPU accuracy set to High for that one

i m on my second playthrought of XC3 and no, the switch version doesnt run that bad in fact runs PRETTY well FSR do wonders in this game.

Do you think Splatoon 3 and switch sports don't work because it wouldn't make sense to play those on steam deck because they basically require Nintendo servers so the developers didn't bother? I own Splatoon 3 and play it on switch just curious and didn't know about the mario rabbids not working that's really interesting.
Where do I find roms for Nintendo switch
I wanna start doing emulations but everyone is saying to use an sd card. What size do you guys recommend I wanna say 512 but is it big enough for too big?
Switch games are rarely more than 10GB, and they're the biggest ROMs around. Think about how many games you'll want to play. You can always buy more SD Cards, so it's not the end of the world if you get one that turns out to be too small.
Is skyline also available for PC/Linux? I saw some really good results with that emulator like smash bros at 240 fps running on a snapdragon 8 gen 2 phone!
It probably takes advantage of the fact that the Switch uses an ARM processor (that was used for an android device before the switch was released, mind you) to avoid *actually* having to emulate *everything*
Does anyone know how far ahead yuzu early access is right now? I prefer as much stability as possible, so I'd rather stick with regular Yuzu? I won't be playing any new releases

Yo my yuzu stopped working randomly this week. Does anyone know if it was a steam update that caused it? I do have beta software enabled.
