Steam Deck has been my favorite piece of gaming hardware I've used in my 30 years of PC gaming. Also, great Video. Well edited, great narration and script, and just altogether really well done! Good job!
The vent on the back isn’t an exhaust vent. It’s the intake. And what I don’t understand is how you “replace your gaming PC” with the 64GB model. That’s a weird title if you’re not actually replacing your gaming PC.
I've had mine about two weeks now and I love it. Best money I've spent on something in a long time. My gaming library in the palms of my hands. So awesome.
Damn homie, I was sitting here thinking I was watching a millions subs youtuber and you only have 18.4k, that's amazing, terrific quality on your videos! subbed
I have a powerful Linux-based PC I use for work and gaming. I have an M1 MacBook that I begrudgingly have to use for work whenever I need to be portable. Now though, I have a Steam Deck that is capable of doing everything my PC's able to, but portably. Valve has really put out a versatile little package with the Steam Deck. Appreciate your review!
I love how simplistic the packaging is for the steam deck while still managing to squeeze in references, the case also saves stuff like foam and packing peanuts too which is nice
Well done, finally a review that puts things in context, with how it all started ten years ago, with SteamOS/Steam Controller/etc and how Valve put everything they've learned in practice. One thing that you left out though is Proton, which is one of the most important ingredient in the Steam Deck. Without it, the Deck would be just another (mini) Steam Machine with just a couple of games. The first Steam Machines were supposed to kickstart developers's interest in creating Linux games, and they did to some extent, but not nearly enough to fill the huge gap in the number of available games. Proton is filling that gap by just using the (majority of) existing Windows games, and by telling developers "OK, just develop for Windows as you normally would, we'll take care of the rest". Well, is a bit more complex than this, but that's basically it. Proton and related tools, the magic juice.
As they've gotten bigger they've become like the rest. If you don't like them, you're in the minority. I'm supporting other companies. I've spent over $10k in games with them on my account and they refuse to do basic morally correct things to keep their customers happy. I won't be giving them a dime more. All I hear are these love story PR bullshit, but my personal relation with them has been garbage. Wouldn't be surprised if they're posting this pr shit themselves. I bought the $700 steam deck after tax from them and they refused to give me a refund on a $10 game that they updated and I couldn't play it. That's not the first time either. About 2 years ago they rejected my refund since it said I had 5 hours because the stupid rockstar launcher was running in the background and it said the game had stopped. Fuck Valve.
Someday in the near future. Valve will be the leading head for gaming, we already have vr, portable, pc. We might get valve brand phones and other gadged like that
Oh i hope so, especially with how corporate and lazy, greedy video-gaming industry have got in recent times. Valve are fair and balanced. this i'm hoping will be the future indeed. Ninty had a nice idea with their Switch but they just didn't push the hardware at at all. I love that Steam Deck has that variety of all sorts of games, sophisticated, more adults games as well as the fun silly games, AND that they allow you to tweak and upgrade if you choose.
I just went ahead and ordered the middle option of the steam deck because of the 10% off sale. I am pretty damn excited for it to arrive. I have two close friends who have owned one for quite some time and they are both very happy with it. Great video!
Wow as a deck owner since many months now, I totally agree with you. What a wonderful machine. An amazing video, keep up the good work man, you just gained a new sub 👏🏻
A buddy had sent me a video about what the Steamdeck was and what it was capable of, and its honestly the fastest impulse purchase of my life! Almost a year later and I have nothing but praise for Valve and their Steamdeck. Im only home 1week/mo, sometimes less… so I wishlisted my whole gaming library, got it all on sale…and have enjoyed the hell out of it. Team it with a docking station for your tv and a GuliKit KingKong2 Pro controller=🔥. Currently dabbling with Discord and mods/multiplayer games. Emulation on the horizon. These things are MONSTERS! Though some titles DO NOT work on the Deck, I was happy to see that over time some of those titles have in fact become compatible. (Scorn, just one example) Hope they continue to do this. There is tons of helpful info everywhere for steamdeck too, its an incredible community.
The deck has caused me to legitimately begin questioning if I need a gaming PC anymore. I pretty much have only played games on it since I got it last year.
Tbf it is a gaming PC. I mean if you really wanted to with a mouse, keyboard, and monitor you could replace your work PC with it (you’d just go back and forth between windows and steamOS).
@@user-vi4xy1jw7e Agreed. I've tried Moonlight and it's not consistent. I was able to play a lot of Ni No Kuni almost lag free via Moonlight around a year or two ago but I guess my internet was working great at the time. You need really good internet to stream games from your PC to another device and get a decent experience. The native experience is always better... + you cannot play that shit "on the go" like you're supposed to on a handheld. Maybe play in bed but that's about it. Streaming is basically good if you wanna move around the house and play rather than sit on the computer but not for going out
@@user-vi4xy1jw7e u right but it is a cheap alternative. On games u can offline its not that bad, u can play w moonlight settings to make it run better
Thank you so much for getting into the haptic controls. So many sites and videos take those granted as if these things were common sense but I think they’re the secret weapon against something like the switch.
Gaming on the steam deck reminds me of analog photography (whereas gaming on desktop would be digital photography). There's something about analog that is a breath of fresh air to the whole experience and makes me appreciate subtle things more. Same with the steam deck, I think you captured it beautifully when you said that the steam deck practically revitalized portions of your library that were gathering "digital dust". Games I lost interest in suddenly were at the forefront of my backlog because I simply wanted to see how they were handheld and then I stuck with them. I'm not too big on AAA titles or fast paced competitive games so it really has me questioning if I should keep my pc.
I always wanted a gaming pc but I never had the money, then I didn't have time for gaming anymore. I lost a lot of interest in gaming in my late 20s and planned on just being outside, gardening, reading and hiking in my 30s. Then I got very ill. I have my fifth surgery this year coming up and it doesn't get less scary over time. I got a ps5 from my sister earlier this year and it helped me a lot to distract myself from anxiety and pain. I also have a used switch which is nice but it lacked a lot if the things I wanted from gaming hardware. After a lot of consideration and the chance that my health journey won't be finished soon, I decided to buy the oled steam deck. It's just more practical for when I am bedridden or in hospital. I hope it arrives before my surgery so I can set everything up as I want it to. This is probably the only gaming pc I will ever own and I feel like I made my peace with my teenage-girl-self who desperately wanted a gaming pc. First thing I'm going to do is to properly mod skyrim lol. But honestly, I am so glad this thing exists.
My old computer is 9 years old. I didn't want to spend too much in a new computer, so I bought the SD instead. Such a great way to play the games! Even some games that gave me issues on windows are working fine on the SD.
Love the video, expecting my deck this week. Can't believe the quality of your editing/design for the amount of subs you have, really good job. Earned a sub here!
I haven't turned on my 3080 PC in months. All my gaming and browsing happens on this. I have SteamOS for most things, W10 on an SD card for others, and another SD card for my Emudeck stuff. It's one of the best things I have ever bought.
It's really one of the best gadgets I've ever had. I never liked the Switch, after BotW, I was just done with it. I would take it on trips and travel for work with not that much interest in using it. But with the Deck, I can play most of my PC games, then continue with cloud saves when I leave home. It really is a perfect compliment to gaming on PC when you're on the road a lot.
Wow, this was such a well produced review of the Steam Deck! Everything was spot on from the filming, editing, writing, and the actual review. You deserve way more subs and views! Keep going, you're going to do great things on this platform! Liked and subbed!
Very well done on the video. I agree! I just got a Steam Deck during the Steam Summer sale and love it! I too and rediscovering games I already had but never played along with some great new AAA titles. I also love how companies take past failures and turn them into successes. I really appreciated that short history on Valve and it really shows you the difference that good leadership at a company can make. I feel Nintendo did this from the Wii U to the Switch and Valve has done this from the Steam Machine and Steam Controller to the Steam Deck.
Brilliant review, thanks. This is a breath of fresh air as finally a company that genuinely offers so much at a competitive price without many or really any drawbacks IMO
Honestly I love what I’m seeing from the steam deck and really want one. I will probably wait for their next gen version or a pro version if it ever comes out.
no need to bother unless you really want to play games natively laying down, the os however is gold and shits on windows, its free but not official except the steamos part, garuda os pick any desktop and build gamescope-session-git
Everything I've seen on the deck is incredible. The only main complaint seems to be battery life, but that's honestly just what comes with playing games on a handheld. I cannot believe we live in an age where you can get into PC gaming for only $400. I mean the fact you can even use this thing for non-steam launchers and emulation, and self-modification is fully supported by Valve just makes it a no-brainer. Definitely going to be picking one of these up this next Black Friday if I can! I spend all day at a PC so I think this would be a great fit since I barely have the time or energy to use my gaming PC lately.
ordered my steam deck while it's on sale and I literally cannot wait for it to get here. after using my switch for so long it's nice to see a company that actually gives a shit about its consumers
The steam deck is awsome as someone who doesn't have a super powerful pc nor the time to enjoy games on it anyway and the steam deck these last 2 weeks has let me play more then I have prior
I'm a hard core PC alien as well. Is it really that good? I'm thinking about living room couch and Deck (have it in my cart), but have doubts regarding screen size (if I'll get the immersion since I'm used to 32" 165Hz). Would love some overall findings from your side (batt at 40fps + headphones for example). Cheers!
Maybe you need a better monitor. I have a steam deck and pc with 4090 with a oled ultrawide. There is no way I'm choosing the deck when I can use my pc and get 175fps The deck is for when I'm not home and can't access my pc.
Bro the moment I realized you check the monitor above the camera quite often, I locked in to it lmao but overall quite informative video and I saw nice information which was absent in other creators' videos. thanks!
Damn dude, absolutely blown away at the quality of this video. Presentation, confidence, content.. S tier all around. Cannot believe you are sub 20K subs. You just earned another one from me though! Keep it up!
Great review bro. I want one because I don’t want a have a big gaming PC rig. So Steamdeck really works for me. Probably gonna wait for the next model though. Thanks for the review.
Valve said that there won't be any big changes until they can provide significantly better performance for the same cost, so that's a few years away probably.
Great video! You're clearly knowledgeable, you did your research, and the review was well structured. Although you didn't really talk about the experience of actually using the Deck as a PC. You mostly talked about it from the perspective of a handheld, which is fine, but then why name the video like that? A follow-up video where you talk about the desktop mode and using it as a daily driver would be cool.
I have had mine since August. I got it with the intention of it supplementing my desktop as well as replacing the PSP I have been using for emulation through the 16 bit systems and PS games and a smattering of various homebrew (gogo cfw). I absolutely love it. I have been playing on handhelds since the early 80s (look up Microvision, came out 45 years ago, a decade before the Gameboy). With them always being part of my arsenal. Even when I switched from home consoles to desktop PCs back in the early 00s, I have always had some kind of portable. It is stunning to see just how far we have come with these little things. The only thing I disliked was the design of the case. It should have been designed to hold the charger and dock. A simple compartment under the deck would have been perfect and since the dock uses the same exact cord as comes with the deck itself, it would only need to hold one of those. The case even has the space for it, but they used it to put that useless elastic strap on the back. Still the fact that the case is standard for all models, from the getgo, is great. This is, shall we say, not exactly common. So I did grab a third party case which has room for a charger, dock, controller and miniature keyboard/trackpad. In safe locations. I do use the Valve case when I am inside my house, since it is smaller and slightly quicker to use (the third party case has a separator between the halves of the clamshell and an extra element that protects the screen itself, great for being on the go, but if I just want to put the deck to sleep for a half hour and keep it safe from my cats, is overkill). But I transfer it to the larger case if I am going out. So that I have those things on hand. addendum: Ryse was one of the first games I played on mine as well, that game really is underrated and is still gorgeous (though I have noticed in perhaps the last year or so, a lot more love being shown to Ryse, I think a lot of people today who never played it much or at all, are looking at it, seeing that it still looks amazing and giving it a shot, I also think that a lot of people who played it when they were in middle school or high school then never thought of it again, are coming back and reevaluating it now that they are older, it came out a decade ago afterall, November of 2013). Along with 40k Space Marine. addendum 2: I grabbed the 256GB version, complemented with a 512GB card. Current number of games installed, 69. With ~30GB free split between the card and onboard storage. (I swear this is coincidental, I would own it had I intended to have that number show up)
I'm going through a similar realisation that since getting the deck I struggle to find a reason to even bother turning my PC on. I'm currently playing through Elden Ring and The Witcher 3 and am always blown away by how well the deck holds up on these titles when I boot them up. It's arguably the best piece of gaming hardware I have purchased in recent history and can even give it credit for revitalising my love for gaming
A year ago I made a choice between the Deck and the Switch. I chose wrong. Nintendo has never let me down before, but this is the first console I got that I could just let the collect dust. Totally uninspiring, even if it’s technically pretty good. I’ll probably get BOtW 2, and then abandon the thing.
@@arnoldfreeman2885 What specifically about the switch let you down? I mean it isn't a PC, it was never going to compete with devices like the deck that are much newer and twice as expensive.
I don't usually post many things on videos, but gotta give credit where credit is due and I really enjoyed listening to your review on the deck, thanks for all the useful information!
This was very helpful. I've got a great PC gaming setup and haven't really needed portable gaming, but now maybe I'm reconsidering. After this video I went to Steam and after a bunch of clicking Steam analyzed my actual library and listed which were "verified" and which were "playable". I already have enough verified and playable games to keep me busy for a long time!
I’ve never been super into handhelds until it peaked my interest. I took advantage of some of the Steam sales and picked up some games I normally would’ve never tried. Immediately hooked
First of all, amazing video quality, both presentation and resolution. I was on a fence about which handheld to buy, thought ill wait for ASUS ROG Ally even though I wanna mainly play indies on a handheld, and everything else is overpriced imo. But now I’m sure. You helped my decision, I’m going for the deck 😁
You’re a very good presenter and you definitely deserve more subs. One thing I didn’t like was the loud music and the presence of music while you are talking.
I just bought mine no need for a PC anymore, it’s literally insane. I can’t wait for the next generation and to see the steam store align with the deck and it’s capability.
A highlight of it is repairability. You can DIY fix/upgrade anything on it as long as it fits. Now, a really baller move from valve would be if a future steam deck iteration on a new CPU platform comes out (Zen4+), they keep the custom form factor the same as the original deck, so you can literally upgrade your handheld if you want to.
I wish one day there is a egpu with docking and usb ports power port build in, so once I plug in the steam deck, it will become a RTX 4090 EGPU desktop computer. that will be awesome.
I wanted a cheap and powerful device like this so i bought one. and i got the dock for a better experience. and did some tinkering to get my basic windows programs and non-steam games to work
recently got my hands on my own steam deck, and i love the fact that i can leave my laptop at home, and continue my save portably, also negates having to buy the same game (if the game even exists) on the switch to be able to take, it, but your not gauranted being able to continue the same save file. sometimes when i have downtime at work I like to play some games, and its nice to not have to, again, lug my laptop around.
That’s a fine library you’re showing off there. Couldn’t agree with this video more. I adore my Steam deck. It’s everything I’ve ever wanted from a handheld.
The Steam Deck is great, I love it, mine's been orbiting my PC though, not replacing it. Don't think it's good enough for that... big cineamatic AAA games are still better on a full entertainment system imo.
Great Video! I’m in the same boat: Preordered a Deck in May ‘22 just before going into college to use alongside my MacBook. It is SOOOOOO much faster than my pc, and a million times more convenient. If I still had my computer (it was my stepdad’s) I honestly don’t know how much I’d use it.
It’s interesting when you see a channel with 16k subs that has a straight up fantastic studio setup, incredibly slick editing… I always wonder who is behind the funding. But great video - very “crisp,” as advertised.
@@jamesy666 Its not ideal for more powerhungry games and higher resolutions. I would buy more powerfull version of it without display and controller. For a good price

Nice! I’m excited for the future with the Deck / expanding the platform based on the successful year
Great video. I bought the Steam Deck last year as a temporary fill in for my ancient PC at the time. I've since gotten a new PC but I still find myself using the Deck more often than not because it's so convenient.
idk why i still watch steamdeck reviews since ive had mine for like 5 months now lol. its the best gaming device ive ever owned. being able to hop from my pc to my SD then back to my pc all with the same save is absolutely amazing.

10 months later: "I replaced My Steam Deck with The Steam Deck OLED"
My favorite "console" of all time. This was a great video and I have and will continue to love my Steam Deck. It has really gotten me into PC gaming even more than before and I feel like I have seen the light (I mean the steam) of Valve and what they are trying to do here.
i was on the fence for a while now, but this past week, i decided to do more research and came across your video. first off, great video, well put together, now i am a new follower! I am ordering mine today and can't wait to get it!
Steam Deck has been my favorite piece of gaming hardware I've used in my 30 years of PC gaming. Also, great Video. Well edited, great narration and script, and just altogether really well done! Good job!
It’s a great device, I’d love to cover some older PC gaming hardware in a series eventually. Thanks for watching!
Does it come with games or loaded?

And what I don’t understand is how you “replace your gaming PC” with the 64GB model. That’s a weird title if you’re not actually replacing your gaming PC.
I've had mine about two weeks now and I love it. Best money I've spent on something in a long time. My gaming library in the palms of my hands. So awesome.
That’s awesome. The value you get is wonderful
same i finished lot's of my digital backlog thanks to deck
Nice video content. I love how you took the time to talk about Valve's past to curent approach. I got mine Aug 2022 64GB model now a 2TB monster
I love how the Steam Deck is everything Valve has learned about making hardware in one package.
Got mine last week. Pleasantly surprised by the case included. Really enjoying Steamdeck so far.
It really surprised me, I didn’t expect to enjoy it as much as I have.
as someone born in the 80s. the steam deck is the most amazing piece of tech to me
Damn homie, I was sitting here thinking I was watching a millions subs youtuber and you only have 18.4k, that's amazing, terrific quality on your videos!
Nice setup, thanks for the comment 😊
Such an overwhelmingly positive review. I wonder why.
I love how simplistic the packaging is for the steam deck while still managing to squeeze in references, the case also saves stuff like foam and packing peanuts too which is nice
I LOVED my Valve Steak Deck 512 LCD. Then I decided to bite the bullet and pickup the OLED and man, oh man, I'm fully sold on it.
I ordered mine last week and they will deliver it in a few days.. i can't wait :D
Nice!
12:10 Agree 100%. Valve is the gaming company we should all be supporting.
They’re definitely pushing the industry in the right direction
Fuck Valve.
your content level and editing level is as if you have a million subs well done my man!
Thanks dude! Happy to hear :)
Same with the 10% sale
Well did you get your SD, ? ..And is it everything you thought it would be ? Cheers !
Wow as a deck owner since many months now, I totally agree with you. What a wonderful machine.
An amazing video, keep up the good work man, you just gained a new sub 👏🏻
Thanks for stopping by! It’s such a blast to use 🤓
U want it to play pc games on a handheld? Try moonlight on ur phone (w a controller or backbone) link to pc
@@Avstract23 not really the same. Lol
Alternative titles, Peter Parker uses a video games console.

Thank you so much for getting into the haptic controls. So many sites and videos take those granted as if these things were common sense but I think they’re the secret weapon against something like the switch.
Hahaha, same for me! I only go on my computer to work on my video game project. The SD is a beast!
I'm looking forward to doing this very thing when mines come in
I always wanted a gaming pc but I never had the money, then I didn't have time for gaming anymore.
It ain’t perfect, modding can be a pain with script extenders, but having a Deck made me actually play more PC games than ever before. Love it!
Love the video, expecting my deck this week. Can't believe the quality of your editing/design for the amount of subs you have, really good job. Earned a sub here!
Ohh nice! The wait will be well worth it, thank you! 😊👍🏻
Absolutely 🙌🏻
wow yeah i really needed to know the history of steam os to fully take in you using the steam deck as your gaming pc...
Wow, this was such a well produced review of the Steam Deck! Everything was spot on from the filming, editing, writing, and the actual review. You deserve way more subs and views! Keep going, you're going to do great things on this platform! Liked and subbed!
Thank you so much! Really appreciate it 🤓
Very well done on the video.
I've been loving all of the Steam Deck content on TH-cam. The second a Steam Deck 2 drops I'm all over that bad boy!
Nah get one now man I guarantee you won't be disappointed!
no need to bother unless you really want to play games natively laying down, the os however is gold and shits on windows, its free but not official except the steamos part, garuda os pick any desktop and build gamescope-session-git
I have a Steam Deck and a gaming PC with a 4090 and… I mainly play on the Steam Deck.
😂 It happens
That's reassuring to hear as someone who's looking to upgrade from a Radeon 6500 xt to a 6600 (regular version). 😄
There is no way I'm choosing the deck when I can use my pc and get 175fps
The deck is for when I'm not home and can't access my pc.
@L0vac if you playing AAA games @40fps batt will be around 1hr40min
Old or less demanding games you can get 3-5hrs

I’ll definitely work on another follow up video soon and dive further into it! Thanks for the heads up
I have had mine since August.
@@arnoldfreeman2885 facts me too I regret getting the switch instead of the steam deck
@@arnoldfreeman2885 What specifically about the switch let you down? I mean it isn't a PC, it was never going to compete with devices like the deck that are much newer and twice as expensive.

Great vision
Kind of what framework is doing with their Laptop
I wish one day there is a egpu with docking and usb ports power port build in, so once I plug in the steam deck, it will become a RTX 4090 EGPU desktop computer. that will be awesome.
