According to food companies, profit matters more than people. They need to be charged for manslaughter since they practically give us no choice to eat healthy
I’ve learned so much from Dr. Berg, it’s a joy going shopping and understanding what my body is consuming when reading food labels. Since doing Keto and IF, I’m feeling so much better and never hungry. I thank God for bringing this man into my life. Continue to be a blessing sir!🙏🏽❤️
I can't imagine consuming chicken with so many ingredients, let alone with added sugar. Just get plain chicken meat and season it for yourself at home. We also make all our own condiments (relish, mustards, barbeque sauce etc.) since they then become nutritious accents to a meal without a bunch of unnecessary garbage added. Just about everything that comes out of a box, can, or jar from the grocery store is heavily processed, we won't eat any of that stuff in our house.
Decide what is really important to you, then make the time accordingly no matter what it takes. Like you, I work long hours. Six years ago we decided to ditch the rat race and the big cities (NYC and Barcelona Spain), "downsized" to the extreme to make the time for cooking from scratch, and have never been happier since then. That said, it takes a lot of work all right. With a sheep herd, 100+ birds (flocks of ducks, chickens, and turkeys), 16 raised 8'x4' vegetable beds and more to take care of, we learned what real work is -- not working for someone else, but for our own benefit. At 53 and 74 we're now off all prescription drugs despite what were significant health problems before, turns out just making the time to cook from scratch using food that we produce ourselves (a full time job all right) completely turned things around for us. It's about choices. The big paychecks are gone but we were always broke back in the money-days anyway. Now we're broke again, but much happier and healthier for it. We live in a 200 acre private homestead that cost much less upfront from buying a one bedroom condo in Southern California. My comment wasn't directed to "everyone... who has the time..." It was directed to those who may fantasize about making the time, then making that fantasy into a reality. We did, it feels good, the same is within reach of anyone who really wants it, and it's sad that you're so sour and negative while introducing yourself to a complete stranger. That said: Hi there Hells favorite angel mike! I was once married to a Hells Angel in the early 1990s (unfortunately that didn't work out), were you in the Club too?
Dr Berg, since my wife introduced your videos to me, I have never felt so much better healthwise.i am on a 16 hour fasting daily, my lob handles are gone and I feel soooo much better Thank you so much.
Thank you so much for doing the ladle reading! I'm new to the Keto way of life and am trying to lose a significant amount of weight. I've been watching as many of your tutorials as possible to be better informed. So I really appreciate your time and efforts.
Good video Doc. Ya know you "made" me start reading labels a few months ago and as a heart patient looking to lose a bit more weight (weight lost thanks to you) i`m always on the look out not just for sugars but for sodium as well. Peace.
Maltodextrin. I dodged a bullet last night. I nearly bought a brand of nutritional yeast with some of that stuff in it. Glad I watched this first! Great Stuff!
It has gotten to the point that you can't trust a product is genuinely organic even if it says it is, unless it also has the USDA certified organic label on the front of the package. You do need to carefully read the list of ingredients to find out what is actually in it and hope that manufacturers are not just saying that in an attempt to get more people to spend money on their products. Scumbags; messing with our food supply like that.
Mr. Berg i come from greece and is very easy for me to have access to all pure products that i need for my keto diet in order to follow excacly all your advices from hundrends of your videos. I lost so far...60 kg. I was 165 and i am now ..105. Thank you..thank you . you give my life back
really enjoyed this - you could even do a few more of these - labels get so tricky - do one reading labels from products from YOUR fridge/psntry too please
Superb! More videos on food labels such as GMO & MSG Please. I have also now become the Food police when out shopping.! Just not enough Organic choices out there sadly. We need organic farmers markets here for sure. another winner Dr Berg!
I found out the “organic does not mean 100% organic!!! The producers in their business established “law that if 30-40% of the ingredients are organic- that they have rights according to their business regulations to write on the label “ORGANIC” They simply mix 30% of the flour from organic sac with a regular non- organic flour... that’s sad... Someone I know worked on cheese distribution section, he said they got non organic cheese and cut it and packed for Fred mayer and the same slices of this cheese packed “organic cheese” for New Seasons, Choice Market and Whole foods.. I don’t believe in mean Oraninc..
Thanks for this video. I was grocery shopping at Walmart yesterday and I came across that same loaf of bread you picked, and read the list of ingredients. I to was surprised to see sugar on the list of ingredients and placed back that loaf of bread back on the shelf. My point is that I'm learning from watching your videos on TH-cam. However this particular video just solidified what I've learned from you. Thank you Doc. .
The sunflower butter label said "And/or Canola oil" and just because the brand name is "Mom's Organic Market" Does not mean that the canola oil is organic. I did not see "Organic certification" anywhere on that label. The ingredients list does not state organic ingredients. The other item I would not use is the mustard. It does not state organic ingredients. The vinegar is more than likely made from GMO corn. Now, I don't know if the herbicides, pesticides, and twisted corn DNA/RNA make any kinds of toxic bombs in the distillation process or not, but I don't want to be that human test subject to find out. I have learned tons of good information from watching your videos. Thank you for all that you have done to educate about healthy choices. Cheers!
Berg said he reads labels, but it looks as if he doesn’t read very thoroughly, or he was just getting tired of reading the labels on those horrible choices of food items. Even I wouldn’t consider reading the labels on all that junk food he’s showing us.
Dr. Berg, thank you so much for your insightful videos! I've been following your suggestions for the past 5 weeks and feel a huge positive difference in the way I feel. My head is clearer, cravings are gone and I feel much more satisfied after meals. My question is about "frucrooligosaccharides". I have been taking Vital Reds by Gundry MD for several months. I love berries but don't always have a chance to eat them. My concern was - what sweetener does it use? Their customer service informed me that it uses frucrooligosaccharides. What is your opinion on this sweetener as it relates to insulin resistance? Thanks in advance! Mila
Good video and advice, I have to take my reading glasses while food shopping so I can see the itty bitty writing on the food labels and ingredients list - get the feeling sometimes they don't want you to know what's in their product...
In the European Union eggs are labelled from 0 - organic to 3- cage only. The code 1 is for free range hens and the EU strictly regulates what free range means (minimal duration of staying outdoor, surface of the courtyard etc.).
Pertaining to line item carbohydrates , you said you 'deduct the fiber to get the NET CARBS'. Can you explain why you do that? When Calculating carbs for the day, do you always deduct the fiber number to get net carbs, and add that to the daily carb tally? Thanks.
May I recommend that you create an updated version of this based on " keto"food products? For example, Costco carries various brands that say "keto",yet the ingredients are definitely not keto...not even keto-friendly.
I am new to your TH-cam channel so I apologize if you have already answered these questions. Can you explain why you do not eat farm raised fish? I fish on a weekly basis on our boat in deep reservoir waters and love fresh fish. I guess I am now questioning if the fish they stock our local lakes and reservoirs with are not as healthy as I had thought. Is there a way to find out? Thanks for sharing you knowledge! I am loving my new life style and love to learn more about it everyday so that I can be the healthiest possible and can share this knowledge with those I care about.
Can you comment on the studies done that show animal protein causes cancer? I am stage 4 cancer and wasn't even able to get out of bed until I started eating a plant based whole food diet...
8:24 says "Sunflower oil and/or canola oil" but yet Dr. Berg endorses it. Isn't canola oil GMO? Maybe Dr. Berg did not notice that on the package. Also, isn't sunflower oil bad? Or is that ok?
Thanks for your great videos Dr.! Could you please make one about gluten free breads? Always get confused when reading their labels with a bunch of ingredients that make me doubt about the "healthiness" of those breads. Would be very very grateful for that!
Wow, Dr. Berg, you have such beautiful skin for your age! Please, will you share with us your skin care routine and all the supplements' (if you take any, anything besides all the salads) that make you look so youthful at your age?! Great video by the way too! ;)
Once you start reading labels, you will know more products to get and not have to check those labels every time. As you progress, you will already know a lot of your basics. And of course produce only needs to be organic so no labels there. Just like anything else you learn little by little as you go.....
In general, they have such a compulsion to put sugar (ex: High fructose corn syrup) and canola oil in just everything...I can not always eat organic unfortunately for now so I go with what is nearest to mother nature for the most part...
Dr. Berg, you are a God-send...love ya! I've been reading labels like crazy and am so thankful my husband does not mind that! He is reading them with me! Belss your heart!
Very nice video Dr. Berg, and I seem to be doing it correctly. But at 8:26 I read "and/or Canola oil" on the label. I thought Canola should be avoided?
5:18 Dr. Berg, you said this would be fine to consume but it has sunflower oil, which contains one of the highest amounts of linoleic acid out of all vegetable oils. I thought all vegetable oils were bad and inflammatory, is this an exception?
Hey Dr. In many of my biology courses, I learn that GMO's cause no harm to human beings. If possible, can you explain WHY you, personally, do not like GMO's?
Coming from a girl who cleaned for Monsanto and looked in their labs fills with chemicals and constantly sprayed their plants...do u wanna consume that
Thanks for the valuable information Dr Berg. I would like you to make a video on how the liver and kidneys deal with artificial colourants, artificial flavourants and sweeteners in foods. This can be important information for people who have to go for dialysis. Again could you then talk on kidney failure and it's causes, is it genetic or can it be caused by the food we eat? Many thanks. Oliver (RSA)
What do you think about all those dextrose type ingredients? I'm doing a no sugar (low sugar) diet and some foods have that stuff in it. Is that safe in a sugar free diet or is it one of those things where I'm replacing sugar with another equally toxic ingredient in my body?
Where I live some supermarkets carry organic bacon (Applegate Organics), but it's not always available, because it sells much quicker than the others (and you can taste the difference!). I'm glad to see Sir Kensington's Mayo meets with your approval: I was passing it by, now I'll try it.
Dr Berg, it would be nice to go over comparison on “each food items”. Eat this bacon and not that, followed by why/ explaining ingredients.. Eat this brand of butter and not that, followed by why.... eat this cheese - Not that explaining... that way I know exactly what brand and what stores to shop at. We’re All learning so much information witch I so thankful for, but to simply and narrow down would be extremely helpful especially when you’re overwhelmed at the grocery store comparing bacon to bacon and still spending hours looking at all the ingredients on witch bacon would Dr. Burg would choose as healthy option. I love all your education videos.. 🙏 THANK YOU!!
Since when is the nutrition table related to the serving size? I thought if something said 2g sugar it meants there's only 2g sugar total.. Also @8:25 the label has AND/OR CANOLA OIL on it. How is Dr. Berg not seeing that? I'm confused
i use to eat lunch out often and that seems to be a big problem for me, i do not know what they use, i am not doing the perfect keto at all but i cut out bread and pasta and flours and potatoes and nothing with added sugar in it, and I am doing less than 20 carbs a day and less than 1500 calories a day
Dr. Berg, I see you approved the sunflower seed butter, but the label says that it may contain canola oil... I'm confused about that. You mentioned in a video of yours that canola oil is genetically modified. I've also read from other sources that it is not safe to consume. Please help me with my confusion.
The Sunflower Seed "butter" has listed Safflower and/or Canola Oil, as well as vegetable oil. On other videos, you have rejected the Canola Oil, and I think, the various vegetable oils. How can this be perfect?
so one thing I noticed is that I think you might be reading the net carb area wrong so in the first bacon which had cane sugar added you noticed it said 0 grams sugar but the net carb was 2 grams, that has to be coming from the cane sugar. compared to the next bacon you looked at which had no cane sugar the total net carbs was Zero. I'm not sure why sometimes it shows up as a net carb and not under the sugars but I've always gone by net carb minus the fiber.
Avacado and coconut oil. Because they both have high heat thresholds and so they won't oxidize like other ones. And another one that I recommend as well btw which it isn't an oil, but grassfed butter/ghee.
This % per serving is a pretty Bad System. In Germany we have two tables there, one for per serving and the other one is per 100g. Much better for comparison
Lucky you amaricans doing keto for all the variety and keto options.. I'm on keto and live in Frankfurt germany.. I couldn't find any almond flour in any store nore keto aproved sugar... In Frankfurt stores dont eaven carry any kale or know any thing about it... Dr berg I'm really struggling with keto in Germany people mostly haven't heard about this diet but i follow you and thanks to you i lost 17 kilos in 3 months
Yeah I would like you opinion on the bacon in general, I have been reading that all these processed meats are bad for us that have the nitrites put in them, do you have an opinion on nitrites in meat?
Hey doc since you said put your comments below I'll try it but I've a feeling with 3k videos it just is impossible to reply or see all comments, but I'll try you: I looked up sunflower oil it is WORST by far on the omega 6 fatty acid saturation than other oils, even more of those than canola oil. Why would you be ok with sunflower oil still? Thanks for replying if you can. Also what do you think about soluble corn fiber (I think I read it ferments so it's fine) and corn starch? I think you have no videos about those, but I do believe corn starch should be the worst crap on earth.
Reading labels is the thing that stopped me eating crap. Couldn't find anything 'simple' so now I make things from scratch so I know what's in it. Best move ever, saves so much money as well.
Same thing for me too. And I used to eat every single meal outside of my house, and refuse to cook. Now it’s the opposite ☺️
Exactly!!
While food shopping;
Wife; "Do you have to read every label"
Me; "Dr. Berg is in my ear and he says YES"
"Do you have to read every label?"
"Am I going to be putting it in my body?"
You are not the only i always read the labels since i took nutrition in high school or college im not sure
Every single lable!!!

I recently purchased your electrolyte powder and I must say, 1. There is NOTHING close to your product, 2. The flavor is outstanding! Love it!
This is a must have. Thanks Doc!!
Dean Massa What the name of the product? Please!
Simply Dee Dr Berg’s electrolyte powder. It’s on his website and also amazon

It is the best! Also, no other electrolyte has even close to the amount of potassium and magnesium as his powder. Its so tasty too.

Dr.Berg I really appreciate you taking the time and helping us all when it comes down to our health.
Some of these products you could easily make at home, such as salad dressing, whipped cream, and mayonnaise. You put exactly what you want in there.

Good luck with educating the doctor. They live in another universe.
this is insane adding sugar to any food possible
High fructose corn syrup in bread just blatantly tells you the food system is rigged

Eventually you don't stop on those aisles. I go into the store just to read labels so that I know what not to buy. It's worth my time to do this.
Wouldn't mind it. I'm sure Dr Berg would make it interesting
Everything about this video is critical information delivered in that Dr Berg mellow voice. Perfect.

In general, they have such a compulsion to put sugar (ex: High fructose corn syrup) and canola oil in just everything...I can not always eat organic unfortunately for now so I go with what is nearest to mother nature for the most part...
I am wondering if you can tell me or do a video about IF status post gastric bypass?
Dr. Berg, you are a God-send...love ya! I've been reading labels like crazy and am so thankful my husband does not mind that! He is reading them with me! Belss your heart!
THANK YOU VERY MUCH DOCTOR FOR YOUR KNOWLEDGE!🙏🏼👍🏼
Regarding the mayonnaise made with safflower oil, I thought that kind of oil was on the No list. I need a reminder of which oils are 👍 and which are 👎
Thank you for the guide on what to look for.
Very nice video Dr. Berg, and I seem to be doing it correctly.
But at 8:26 I read "and/or Canola oil" on the label.
I thought Canola should be avoided?
I always look at labels but much of this data was very helpful
Labels are very tricky! Everything has sugar it seems or soy. Thanks for your help
But don't GMO have built in pesticides?
Now I'm totally confused I look at the cabs. As carbs turn into sugar as I presumed.
I never get the whipped cream thing. Just make your own. Cream, monk fruit sweetener and vanilla extract. It’s so simple. Then you know what’s in it!
8:29 how come the sunflower seed got a pass? it has vegetable oil and canola oil?
O my gosh! I never even thought to check for sugar in pickles!! Now I know...🤔
Thanks for that label knowledge very helpful I usually read the labels.
5:18
Dr. Berg, you said this would be fine to consume but it has sunflower oil, which contains one of the highest amounts of linoleic acid out of all vegetable oils. I thought all vegetable oils were bad and inflammatory, is this an exception?
Very useful info love dr. Berg
Hey Dr.
In many of my biology courses, I learn that GMO's cause no harm to human beings. If possible, can you explain WHY you, personally, do not like GMO's?
Coming from a girl who cleaned for Monsanto and looked in their labs fills with chemicals and constantly sprayed their plants...do u wanna consume that
Emily is the pesticides that they spray. You're literally eating round up herbicide
It’s not a personal opinion. GMOs are harmful to the body. Just like FDA calls corn oil healthy … lol
I really liked this vid. Shows a different take in what others looks for first.
Definitely
That's your best shirt!
Thanks for the videos, this is a must one! For us ketoers
Pasture raised organic cheese is good
Excellent video, for that hormone part..hormones are decomposed at higher cooking temperatures..hence much safer for consumption
What do you think about all those dextrose type ingredients? I'm doing a no sugar (low sugar) diet and some foods have that stuff in it. Is that safe in a sugar free diet or is it one of those things where I'm replacing sugar with another equally toxic ingredient in my body?
The first thing I look at is the sugars 🔖 Seriously.
Very informative thnx Doc!
☘️New subbie! greetings from 🇸🇪 😊
Where I live some supermarkets carry organic bacon (Applegate Organics), but it's not always available, because it sells much quicker than the others (and you can taste the difference!). I'm glad to see Sir Kensington's Mayo meets with your approval: I was passing it by, now I'll try it.
Love this video. Can you please do an analysis on Kraft cheese spread?
I have a request: Can you see if frosted mini wheats is healthy enough?
What about xanthan gum? I can't find a single salad dressing on the store shelf that doesn't have xanthan gum in it. I make my own now.
It’s like someone translating and solving a puzzle, thats cool 🤓
so one thing I noticed is that I think you might be reading the net carb area wrong so in the first bacon which had cane sugar added you noticed it said 0 grams sugar but the net carb was 2 grams, that has to be coming from the cane sugar. compared to the next bacon you looked at which had no cane sugar the total net carbs was Zero. I'm not sure why sometimes it shows up as a net carb and not under the sugars but I've always gone by net carb minus the fiber.
What kind of cooking oils do you recommend?
Avacado and coconut oil. Because they both have high heat thresholds and so they won't oxidize like other ones. And another one that I recommend as well btw which it isn't an oil, but grassfed butter/ghee.
This % per serving is a pretty Bad System. In Germany we have two tables there, one for per serving and the other one is per 100g. Much better for comparison
Loved this video doc!
Great video! Very helpful!
I believe the doc mentioned it in another video somewhere.....
Pasture raised and not Pasteurized. A bit like Curry Flavour and Curry Favour
Our dear friend and doc.. Thanks 😊
Hey doc since you said put your comments below I'll try it but I've a feeling with 3k videos it just is impossible to reply or see all comments, but I'll try you:
I looked up sunflower oil it is WORST by far on the omega 6 fatty acid saturation than other oils, even more of those than canola oil. Why would you be ok with sunflower oil still? Thanks for replying if you can. Also what do you think about soluble corn fiber (I think I read it ferments so it's fine) and corn starch? I think you have no videos about those, but I do believe corn starch should be the worst crap on earth.
